DORMAN IS RECALLING 979 STEERING KNUCKLES, DORMAN P/NOS. 697-902 AND 697-903, SOLD UNDER DORMAN'S "OE SOLUTIONS<SUP>TM</SUP>" BRAND NAME, AND NAPA P/NOS. 7-8502 AND 7-8503 WHICH WERE SOLD FOR REPLACEMENT USE ON THE VARIOUS VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. A POTENTIAL MATERIAL OR DESIGN DEFECT COULD RESULT IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE BREAKING IN THE HUB AREA.
Consequence: A BROKEN STEERING KNUCKLE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
Remedy: DORMAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE STEERING KNUCKLES FREE OF CHARGE AND REIMBURSE THE REPAIR FACILITY OR OWNER FOR LABOR. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 23, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DORMAN'S TOLL-FREE HOTLINE AT 1-800-523-2492 AND PRESS 5.

CERTAIN CARGO VANS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS NO. 110, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS" AND NO. 120. "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS." THESE CARGO VANS WERE SHIPPED WITHOUT A TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION LABELS BECAUSE THEY WERE INCORRECTLY DESIGNATED AS INCOMPLETE VEHICLES.
Consequence: WITHOUT THE PROPER LABELS, OWNERS MAY BE UNAWARE OF THE CORRECT TIRE SIZE AND MAY OVERLOAD THESE VEHICLES.

THE BRAUN CORPORATION HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA ABOUT A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2008 GENERAL MOTORS MOBILITY CONVERSION, HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE LOW FLOOR MINIVANS. DURING CONVERSION, THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER SIDE TRAILING ARM MODIFICATION MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ADEQUATELY WELDED.
Consequence: A SQUEAKING OR CLUNKING NOISE MAY DEVELOP. THE TRAILING ARM BUSHINGS MAY PREMATURELY WEAR AND THE TRAILING ARM MAY FRACTURE OR SEPARATE, ALLOWING THE REAR AXLE TO BECOME PARTIALLY SEPARATED FROM THE CHASSIS INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY WHEN A DUMP TRUCK DRIVER RAN A RED LIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY AT 50+MPH WITHOUT HITTING HIS BREAKS AT ALL. I WAS AT THE INTERSECTING LIGHT THAT WAS GREEN SO I HAD JUST STARTED TO PULL INTO THE INTERSECTION TO CROSS OVER THE HIGHWAY.THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE QUARTER PANEL IS SMASHED TO THE MOTOR, HOOD RIPPED OFF AND MANGLED. THE DUMP TRUCK SPUN US 180 DEGREE'S AND DROVE UP OVER THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. MYSELF IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT, MY FIANC IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND OUR 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN HER CAR SEAT IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE BUCKET SEAT ALL WEARING SEATBELTS ALL SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES AND NOT ONE SINGLE AIR BAG DEPLOYED IN MY VEHICLE.

A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED HER FRIEND CAME TO THE SCENE AND DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO REPAIR STORE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH VARIOUS FAILURES. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS BONES, HEAD, AND EYE SOCKETS. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A FRACTURED COLLAR BONE, SCRATCHES, AND BRUISES. BOTH OCCUPANTS REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
OUR ABS LIGHT IS ON BOUGHT IT THAT WAY LADY SAID SHE HAD THE ABS HUB REPLACED BUT IT STILL WON'T GO OFF. SOMETIMES WHEN YOUR DRIVING THE TRACTION CONTROL TRYING TO KICK IN BUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD OR HIGHWAY IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOUR CAR TO JERK OUT OF NO WHERE SCARING THE CRAP OUT OF YOU ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR SURROUNDED BY CARS ON ALL SIDES.THESE 2 LIGHTS STAY ON THEY WILL NOT GO OFF I DON'T FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH ALL OF THY HIS AGAIN BECAUSE OF A MANUFACTURER MESS UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE BUT I'LL LIST THE LAST TIME BELOW.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
