approximately 6 years my daughter and her boyfriend were driving and she heard a loud pop sound, and thought it might be a tire but it wasnt behaving like it was and then all of the sudden people are driving next to her telling her to pull over cuz the car was on fire, she pulled it over and as soon as she got out the whole car caught fire. when they noticed the fire it had started near or under the passenger front seat, there was no warning lamps or any problems proir. The auto insurance company took the car and they said they inspected it but never gave me any answers, they simply paid off my loan and that was it. The fire department put out the fire, the car was burnt to a crisp, and the fire men were accusing my kid of smoking and starting the fire, so they did no investigation.

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Eos. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of a persistent oil leak on the ground. The vehicle had undergone three separate repairs to resolve the failure, but the oil leak persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel was running lean. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.

While in slow traffic and transmission in Drive position, if I slow down or stop for traffic in front of me or a red light, the transmission does not engage again when given acceleration. I have shut the car off and restarted again, sometimes more than once to get it to engage and get me out of traffic. I have held up traffic behind me. There are also loud clunking noises coming from what I believe is the transmission at each start causing the PRNDL to flash and no power for reverse and drive. I believe all of this will eventually cause a collision as it appears to other vehicles that I should be moving. People have also become very frustrated with my vehicle holding up traffic, especially on the busiest of days and long lines waiting to advance behind me. People have become impatient and angry to the point of road rage. Thankfully, no one has actually tried to hurt me physically. The date below would be the latest incident.

I slowly at 5mph went over a bump and my car went automatically into neutral, all of the P R N D S lights on the dash started blinking and the car just kept revving when I tried to put it into gear. I had the car towed to the dealership and it is currently there. I looked on Kelly Blue Book and saw there was a recall for my vehicle type and the recall states exactly what happened to my car. Can my VIN number be added to this recall since it is the very same mechanical issue? The vehicle has exhibited intermittent ABS, ESC, and Brake light. Code check revealed intermittent communication errors with various parts of the ABS system including the control module. Diagnostics varied, undiagnosable due to intermittent activity and varying codes. April 2021, ABS, ESC, Brake light, codes indicate communication error with the ABS control module. Codes and light reset after being cleared, the vehicle was operational and drives with no detectable issues other than lights/ and possible non-operational ABS. 06/29/2021, 10 minutes into drive vehicle speedometer begins to dance from zero to operating speed, to total fault intermittently in interstate traffic on I-10 west into Houston at Channel View, braking begins to engage automatically/intermittently, loss of engine power, check engine/flashing brake light , vehicle narrowly avoids collision. Vehicle parked and restarted, driven back home with check engine and flashing brake light and intermittent speedometer, no drivability issues. 6/30/21 internet search for similar issues reveals an abundance of similar issues without drivability problems and 2017 recall# Part 473 Safety Recall Report 16V-913. I would call attention to pages 3 and page 4 of this recall 1.) Considering the events of 6/28 and page 3 of the recall under Chronology, Volkswagen appears to admit the problem, and with a thorough understanding of its own systems should openly acknowledge the ability of this system to cause dangerous drivability conditions. 2.) Page 4, Recall Schedule, Description of Recall, Indicates that VW has still to provide dealers and owners with notification of this issue. As an owner and knowledgeable professional in automotive service I can assure you as of 7/1/2021, nearly five years after VW acknowledged the issue in Dec. 2016 to the NHTSA, and 11 years after addressing the concern in production with the 2010 models, we have not been notified.

THE ABS BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT IS ON AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO A CERTIFIED EURO CAR MECHANIC HE SAID THAT 8 CODES SHOWED UP FOR THIS. HE ALSO SAID THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL 45F2 ON THIS. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE VW DEALERSHIP IN PANAMA CITY, FL. THEY WERE EXTREMELY RUDE AND SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE. THEY WOULD NOT TELL ME IF OR WHEN THE RECALL WAS COMPLETE, AND IF IT WAS COMPLETED AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING, THEN THERE IS STILL A PROBLEM WITH THE INITIAL RECALL THAT WAS NOT FIXED.

IT HAS A MAJOR OIL LEAK AND ONLY HAS 56,000 MILES ON IT. THE LEAK IS AT REAR MAIN SEAL AND UPPER TIMING GASKET. I FEEL DUE TO THE LOW MILEAGE, THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. DUE TO WHERE THE OIL LEAK IS PRESENT, THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE PULLED WHICH IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY.

A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS THEN GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF $2,700.00 FOR AN UNSPECIFIED PUMP. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AUTOBAHN VOLKSWAGEN FORT WORTH 2810 WHITE SETTLEMENT RD, FORT WORTH, TX 76107 WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED AGAIN THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND GAVE HER THE SAME ESTIMATE AS THE PREVIOUS DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND SET UP BOTH APPOINTMENTS FOR THE VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 122,328.

CAR WAS WITHIN LIMITS BUT VW REFUSED REPAIR SAYING MECHATRONIC UNIT (WHERE THE DEFECTIVE VALVES ARE LOCATED) NOT COVERED BY AGREEMENT WITH NHTSA. I SLOWED DOWN EVEN MORE AND CAR WAS STILL GOING AT HIGHER THAN NORMAL RPMS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT VERY SLOWLY THROUGH RESIDENTIAL STREETS TO MY HOUSE. WHEN I WAS GOING TO PARK IT IN MY SPOT, I HAD TO PUT IT IN REVERSE, AND WHEN I DID, IT DID NOT MOVE IN REVERSE! DURING ALL THIS THE "PRNDS" LIGHTS KEPT ON FLASHING. I HAD TO TURN IT OFF, PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, AND GET PUSHED INTO MY PARKING SPOT. WHEN I TESTED TO SEE IF CAR WOULD START, IT STARTED PERFECTLY, NO FLASHING LIGHT OR ANYTHING, NO DELAY OR TROUBLE TO START IT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER TURNED ON EITHER. THE DAY BEFORE, I DID HAVE AN ISSUE WITH GETTING THE CAR STARTED, IT NEEDED A JUMP START, AND WHEN THE BATTERY WAS TESTED FOR ITS VOLTAGE, IT WAS RUNNING ON THE LOWER SIDE. I HAD NOT DRIVEN IT ALL DAY ON FRIDAY, AND THE STARTING ISSUES WERE ON SATURDAY. I WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT I MUST HAVE LEFT A LIGHT ON, BUT NOTHING WAS LEFT ON TO DRAIN THE BATTERY. EARLIER ON SUNDAY, I NEEDED TO GO ON ONE OUTING AND THE CAR DID GIVE ME TROUBLE TO START, WITH A DELAYED SLOW START, AND IT DROVE FINE TO MY DESTINATION LESS THAN 4 MILES AWAY. WHEN I LEFT THERE, THE CAR MANAGED TO START WITH THAT DELAY AGAIN, AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME IS WHEN THE CRAZY JERKING, RPM REVVING, AND CAR SLOWING DOWN HAPPENED ABOUT A MILE AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS WAS VERY SCARY, AND I HAVE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS EXACT SAME THING! I AM TOO SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR! I HAD IT TOWED TO THE VW DEALER, AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM. 2009 VOLKSWAGEN EOS 2.0T TSI ENGINE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILURE DUE DEFECTIVE DESIGN. CAR DID NOT START AND I HAD TO CHANGE THE ENGINE AT MY EXPENSE. NOW I AM NOT SURE IF THE NEW ENGINE (USED) HAS THE NEW DESIGN VERSION TENSIONER OR THE OLD. I HAVE INVESTIGATED AND THIS IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE. THIS MOST ENGINE CODE IS CCTA AND IS USED IN MANY VW CARS 2008 AND UP. VOLKSWAGEN SENT A BOLETN EXPLAINING THIS FAILURE AND CHANGE THE DESIGN OF THE TENSIONER ON 2012 THIS FAILURE MAY CAUSE CATASTROFIC ENGINE FAILURE AND DESTROY IT. VW HAS NOT TAKEN RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ISSUE.

CLEARED FAULT CODE BUT IT RETURNS IMMEDIATELY WHEN DRIVING. FOUND THERE IS NHDTA RECALL FOR THIS YR/MDL BUT WHEN VIN ENTERED NO RECALL FOUND. TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER SYSTEM FAILURE I'M REACHING OUT IN REGARDS TO LEGAL ADVICE REGARDING TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER SYSTEM FAILURE ON MY 2009 VOLKSWAGEN EOS. WHILE TRAVELING WITH MY TWO YOUNG SONS FOR THEIR SPRING BREAK, MY CAR COMPLETELY FAILED (WHILE IN-MOTION), PUTTING BOTH MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF MY TWO CHILDREN IN HARM'S WAY. THE TIME AND RESOURCES SPENT GETTING MY CAR TOWED TO THE MECHANIC, EMOTIONAL TRAUMA/STRESS, AND LOSS IN PRODUCTIVITY HAS BEEN A BLOW FOR MY FAMILY- NOT TO MENTION THE COST TO REPAIR (WHICH I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE THE INVOICE). UPON RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, IT WAS UPSETTING TO LEARN THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR VOLKSWAGEN- TO THE POINT WHERE THEY'VE FACED LITIGATION ON NUMEROUS OF FRONTS. THERE ARE ALSO REPORTS WHERE VW ADJUSTED THEIR PRODUCTION/MANUFACTURING PROCESS IN 2012 TO ADDRESS 'SAID ISSUE'. YET VW HAS YET TO DO WHAT'S IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THEIR CONSUMERS THAT OWN MODELS PRIOR TO 2012. TURNS OUT THEY ONLY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE AND DIDN'T REPLACE THE MODULE SO THE ABS BRAKES DON'T WORK SINCE THE MODULE CAN'T SUPPORT THE NEW SOFTWARE. DEALER IS NOW TRYING TO CHARGE ME $2,000 TO REPLACE THE MODULE BECAUSE THE VW RECALL WARRANTY ONLY COVERS THE BILL IF THEY WERE ALL DONE ON THE SAME DAY. I STILL DON'T HAVE A WORKING CAR BACK BECAUSE OF IT. THIS AFFECTS TIGUANS, JETTAS, EOS, AND OTHER VWS WITH 2.0TSI ENGINES MANUFACTURED PRE 2013. THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS HAVE A DESIGN FLAW AND ARE PRONE TO FAILURE AT UNACCEPTABLY LOW MILEAGES. THESE WERE REPLACED WITH A NEW DESIGN TO CORRECT THIS FLAW BEGINNING IN SOME 2012 MODELS. HOWEVER, VW HAS NEVER FORMALLY RECALLED THESE OR ACKNOWLEDGED THE DESIGN FLAW. IF/WHEN IT FAILS, IT CAN RUIN THE ENGINE OFTEN CAUSING OVER $5K IN DAMAGES. THE WORKSHOP CONFIRMED I HAD THE OLD STYLE AND REPLACED MINE AT THE COST OF $873.68. THIS IS A WIDELY SPREAD, WIDELY DOCUMENTED PROBLEM THAT VW IS ONLY TREATING WHEN IT CAUSES ENGINE FAILURES. WHILE THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM MOST OWNERS ARE IN THE DARK ABOUT IT, 'TAKING IT ON THE CHIN' AND SHELLING OUT MONEY PRESUMING IT'S JUST A NORMAL ERROR AND NOT KNOWING IT'S A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CAR. WHAT IS WORSE, THIS CAR WAS TAKEN WHEN ONLY 4 YRS AND 49K MILES FOR TRANSMISSION WORK AND THEY RECOMMENDED IT BE REPLACE (FOR A QUOTE OVER 2K) BUT DID NOT MENTION THE WARRANTY AT THE TIME. IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO FUNCTION, IT WAS PUT IN PARK AND RESTARTED, ALL THE WHILE BLOCKING TRAFFIC AND CREATING AN UNSAFE DISABLED VEHICLE CONDITION. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH ON A STATE ROAD. THE VEHICLE SHIFTED TO A LOWER GEAR, REVVING THE ENGINE AND QUICKLY SLOWING TO APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. AS WAS IN THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE PRND LIGHTS ON THE DASH BEGAN FLASHING. THIS OCCURRED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND REQUIRED A VEHICLE FOLLOWING TO SWERVE TO AVOID A REAR END COLLISION. VW DEALER AND VW REGIONAL OFFICE CONFIRMED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN WINDOW REGULATORS, AFFECTING ABILITY TO SEE PROPERLY OUT OF VEHICLE. VW PERSONNEL SAID THEY HAD ACTUALLY EXTENDED A WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THIS KNOWN DEFECT -- PROVIDING 100,000 MILES OF COVERAGE. HOWEVER, UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, THEY STATED THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED IN 2014 AND WOULD NO LONGER BE HONORED DESPITE THEIR ACKNOWLEDGMENT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE CAUSED BY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THIS CAUSED A POTENTIALLY EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE IF THERE WERE CARS IN THE NEXT LANE, WHICH I HAD TO QUICKLY SWITCH INTO, TO AVOID AN ABRUPT BRAKING BY THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES AND THEY HAD MY CAR FOR MONTHS. THEY THINK THE SEAFOAM HID THE PROBLEM FOR ALMOST A YEAR. THEY REPLACED FUEL INJECTORS AND THAT HELPED FOR ABOUT 400 MILES. THEN THEY REPLACED THE PART THAT IS THE EQUIVALENT OF A CAARBURETOR. THIS FIXED IT FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS THIS TIME. I JUST MADE A TRIP TO CHICAGO AND THANK GOD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN THERE AS I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. NOW I AM AT 85,000 AND IT JUST HAPPENED ON AUGUST 6, 2015. 2009 VW EOS DGS TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO SLIP WHEN ACCELERATING INTO TRAFFIC. THERE WAS A BUMP LIKE THE CLUTCH ENGAGED, BUT THEN THERE WAS A MOMENTARY LOSS OF POWER (TORQUE) AND THEN ANOTHER BUMP LIKE THE CLUTCH FULLY ENGAGED. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE RECENT RECALL APPLIED ALREADY, AND WE'VE EXPERIENCED A PREVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE PRNDS LIGHTS FLASHING (REPORTED ALREADY) AND THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGING WHILE DRIVING 40MPH, AND ANOTHER INCIDENT WITH ONLY THE D LIGHT FLASHING, ALSO REMAINING IN NEUTRAL, FROM STOPPED WHILE TRYING TO LEAVE A PARKING SPOT. BOTH TIMES THE CAR HAD TO BE TURNED OFF & ON TO RESTORE THE TRANSMISSION TO OPERATIONAL CONDITION. THE VW DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY EVENTS IN THE CAR'S COMPUTER FOR ANY TRANSMISSION EVENTS. (PRESUMABLY AN ERROR BIG ENOUGH TO REMAIN IN NEUTRAL AND FLASH PRNDS OR D SHOULD AT THE MINIMUM LOG AN ERROR!) COMPLAINTS FOR PREVIOUS 2 INCIDENTS ARE 10290234 AND 10285719. 2 INCIDENTS: SEPT 2009, DSG TRANSMISSION FLASHED PRNDS AND SHIFTED INTO LOW GEAR. OCT 21 2009, DSG TRANSMISSION FLASHED D AND SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. IN THE 1ST INCIDENT, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH, AND HAD SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL. WHEN SHIFTING BACK TO DRIVE, THE DASHBOARD FLASHED THE PRNDS LIGHTS AT ME AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED TO A VERY LOW GEAR (2ND?), MAKING THE CAR REDLINE AND SLOWING THE CAR ABRUPTLY ON A BUSY STREET. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND CORRECTLY UNTIL TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. (DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING). IN THE 2ND INCIDENT, WHILE PARKED I SHIFTED FROM P TO D. THE CAR FLASHED D ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED IN NEUTRAL. THERE WAS NO IMMEDIATE DANGER. AGAIN, I HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR TO RESET THE PROBLEM. WHEN DRIVING 2009 EOS, AFTER ACCELERATING I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, THEN SHIFTED BACK TO D A WHILE LATER. THE CAR WENT TO A LOW GEAR (LIKE 2ND) INAPPROPRIATE FOR MY SPEED, AND THE PRNDS INDICATORS ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED FLASHING. I WAS UNABLE TO RESTORE NORMAL OPERATION WITHOUT RESTARTING THE CAR. I SHIFTED BACK TO NEUTRAL AND TURNED THE CAR OFF, THEN ON, TO GET IT TO BEHAVE. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS WAS QUITE UNEXPECTED AND DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. I WOULD'VE NEEDED TO SLOW TO 20MPH OR SO IN A 40MPH AREA TO GET THE ENGINE RPMS TO A SPEED APPROPRIATE TO THE GEAR. VOLKSWAGEN EOS AUTOMATIC. LAST THURSDAY AUGUST 20TH I WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN WHEN THE CAR SWITCHED INTO NEUTRAL CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND ME TO HIT THE BRAKES SO AS NOT TO HIT ME. MY CAR THEN SWITCHED INTO DRIVE AND LURCHED FORWARD CAUSING ME TO HIT TO BRAKES SO AS NOT TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME SINCE I LEASED THE CAR ON JULY 19TH THAT THE CAR HAS SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN INTO DRIVE. VOLKSWAGEN KNEW OF THE PROBLEM AND YET NOBODY BOTHERED TO TELL ME THAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT EXIST. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO INFORM ANY PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER OF THE PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE A LEASE FOR 3 YEARS AND WHO KNOWS IF THE PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED IN A TIMELY MANNER OR NOT. THIS IS RELATED TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER : PE09035 WHILE DRIVING, TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP LIGHT AND THE CAR WOULDN'T GO. IT ACTED AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. ALSO NOTICED ON THE DASH COMPUTER WHERE IT SHOWS WHAT GEAR YOU'RE IN I.E. P,D,R - ALL OF THESE LIGHTS JUST FLASHED. ONLY WAY TO GE THE CAR MOVING AGAIN WAS TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION (IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD) AND RESTART THE CAR. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PROCEED WITH DRIVING. THIS INCIDENT WAS EXTREMELY SCARY AND I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED. THIS HAPPENED TWICE THE SAME DAY SO I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE. IT HAD ONLY BEEN DRIVEN A TOTAL OF 200 MILES UP UNTIL I TOOK THE CAR IN. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CALLED BACK THE NEXT DAY AND SAID IT WAS A FAULTY TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR WHILE IS NOW BEING REPLACED. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE CAR BACK YET. *TR

I PURCHASED MY 2009 VW EOS ON AUGUST 30, 2008. ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2008 AFTER ONLY APPROXIMATELY 1,300 MILES, A VALVE THAT MEASURES THE TEMPERATURE OF THE CLUTCH MALFUNCTIONED. AS A "SAFETY" PRECAUTION THE TRANSITION WILL NOT CHANGE GEARS IF THE CLUTCH TEMPERATURE IS TOO HIGH. THIS VALVE MALFUNCTIONED WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR OPERATED AS THOUGH I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND REVVED THE ENGINE. ONCE OUT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC IT TOOK ME THREE TRIES TO RESTART MY CAR. I PROCEEDED TO EXIT THE FREEWAY AND GET TO A SAFER DESTINATION. WHILE DOING SO THIS MALFUNCTION OCCURRED TWO MORE TIMES. UPON TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED I WAS INITIALLY TOLD THAT THE ENGINE SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED. ONLY UPON DEMANDING TO SPEAK WITH THE HEAD MECHANIC AND BEING ASKED TO FULLY DESCRIBE THE SITUATION THAT THE TRUE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED. IT WAS MADE CLEAR TO ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE MALFUNCTIONING VALE CAUSES A PRESSURE PROBLEM IN THE TRANSITION. I AM ANTICIPATING THIS PROBLEM TO OCCUR AGAIN AND HAVE ALREADY CONSULTED WITH A LAWYER FOR LEMON LAW. *TR
