THE ISSUE HAPPENS MOSTLY AT THE SAME LOCATION BUT NISSAN HAS SO SOLUTION. THIS HAPPENED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITION.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 NISSAN 240SX. THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL TANK FRACTURED AND LEAKED FUEL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE TROPHY WEST COVINA NISSAN LOCATED AT 205 N CITRUS ST, WEST COVINA, CA 91791, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPLACEMENT FUEL TANK WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD TWO OTHER YEAR MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLES THAT HAD SIMILAR FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 187,750.

THE GAS TANK ON THE 1995-1998 NISSAN 240SX IS MADE OF A COMPOSITE MATERIAL. BETWEEN FRIDAY MAY 7, AND SATURDAY MAY 8, 2010 A STRESS FRACTURE IN THE FUEL TANK FORMED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, ADJACENT TO THE STRAP WHICH HOLDS THE TANK TO THE CAR. THE FRACTURE IN THE TANK RESULTED IN A LARGE QUANTITY OF FUEL LEAKING OVER THE GARAGE FLOOR. THIS WAS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AS IT COULD HAVE LED TO A SEVERE VEHICLE AND HOUSE FIRE. THE FAILURE HAS NOT YET BEEN CORRECTED. TO PREVENT MORE FUEL FROM LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE, AND TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF A FIRE, THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED, AND THE REMAINING FUEL IN THE VEHICLE WAS SIPHONED INTO GASOLINE CONTAINER. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TANK REQUIRES REMOVING THE ENTIRE REAR SUBFRAME OF THE VEHICLE WHICH CONSISTS OF THE REAR SUSPENSION AND DRIVELINE-- A LABOR INTENSIVE PROCESS. THIS IS THE SECOND COMPOSITE PART THAT HAS FAILED ON THE VEHICLE WITHIN TWO MONTHS. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO USES A RADIATOR WITH COMPOSITE INLETS AND OUTLETS. OVER TIME AND DUE TO HEAT CYCLING, THE COMPOSITE MATERIAL DEVELOPED A STRESS FRACTURE RESULTING IN COOLANT BEING DUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

I HAVE A 1995 NISSAN QUEST VEHICLE THAT HAD A SAFETY RECALL FOR A CRACKED FUEL TANK VENT HOSE THAT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE. THE RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED IN JUNE 2001 WITH THE RECALL NOTICE STATING THAT THE HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO PREVENT THE HOSE FROM CRACKING AND CAUSING A FUEL LEAK. ON NOV. 5TH 2004, MY VEHICLE FAILED IT'S ANNUAL STATE EMISSIONS TEST, WITH THE REPORT SAYING THAT I HAD A FUEL SYSTEM LEAK. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED THE FUEL TANK VENT HOSE CRACKED AND LEAKING AND CHARGED ME $170 TO REPLACE IT. I PROTESTED THE CHARGE BECAUSE THE RECALL WORK WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING. THIS SAFETY RECALL IS NOT EFFECTIVE. NISSAN TOLD ME THAT THE RECALL WORK IS ONLY WARRANTED FOR 1 YEAR. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS FROM HAPPENING AND THE LATEST WORK SHOULD BE COVERED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR NISSAN WOULD AGREE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE EXPENSE.
