(LAND ROVER) IS RECALLING CERTAIN REAR DRIVESHAFT COUPLINGS, LAND ROVER BRANDED PART NUMBER TVF100010, MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 2011 THROUGH NOVEMBER 2011, SOLD FOR USE AS SERVICE PARTS FOR CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 1995-1999 DISCOVERY, 1999-2004 DISCOVERY II, AND 1995 RANGE ROVER CLASSIC VEHICLES. SOME OF THE REAR DRIVESHAFT COUPLINGS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED TO THE REQUIRED ENGINEERING DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS AND MAY EXHIBIT THE ONSET OF JOINT SEPARATION, PRECLUDED BY DRIVE LINE VIBRATION.
Consequence: IF THIS INCREASED VIBRATION WARNING SIGN IS IGNORED, CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE DRIVE COUPLING CAN OCCUR. THE DRIVESHAFT MAY DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE WHILE IN MOTION RESULTING IN LOSS OF DRIVE AND LOSS OF TRANSMISSION PARK FUNCTIONALITY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH AND/OR INJURY.
Remedy: LAND ROVER WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED REAR DRIVESHAFT COUPLERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 4, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JAGUAR LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA AT 1-201-818-8500.

THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR CAN FAIL TO LATCH FULLY WHEN CLOSING, CAUSING THE DOOR TO "BOUNCE" BACK OFF THE DOOR SEALS.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE UNEXPECTED OPENING OF THE DOOR INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE ACCIDENT OR PERSONAL INJURY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL CORRECTIVE HARDWARE ON THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR. DELAERS WILL ALSO CHECK THE DOOR LATCHES FOR THE OTHER DOORS AT THE SAME TIME.
The contact owns a 1995 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle, the contact observed gasoline leaking from the rear of the vehicle where the fuel tank was located. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 04V203000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); the VIN was included, but the vehicle had never been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The contact was informed that he could schedule the recall repair with the nearest dealer; however, the nearest dealer was 6 hours away, and the manufacturer had refused to cover the cost of towing the vehicle. The failure mileage was unknown.

THIS IS A PARTS BLACK HOLE VEHICLE COSTNG THOUSANDS IN REPAIRS. ONCE OUT OF WARRANTY DEALERS RIPPED ME OFF ALWAYS STATING UNRELATED ISSUES. NO ONE ELSE. AN OR WILL WORK ON THE CAR. SAME THINGS CONTINUE TO FAIL. MANUFACTUER WON'T ADDRESS ISSUES OR HONOR RECALL'S. CAR HAS 101K MILES. AT PORT OF ENTRY, A QUALITY OVERCHECK OF THE DIFFERENTIAL PINION SHAFT TORQUE WAS PERFORMED. THIS CHECK REQUIRED THE REMOVAL OF THE DRIVESHAFTS. WHEN THE DRIVESHAFTS WERE REINSTALLED, THE WRONG SIZED NUTS WERE USED.
Consequence: THE NUTS CAN LOOSEN, ULTIMATELY CAUSING THE DISCONNECTION OF ONE OR BOTH OF THE DRIVESHAFTS RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE HARDWARE ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES WITH HARDWARE OF THE APPROPRIATE SPECIFICATIONS.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. AS A RESULT OF CHAFFING OF A CRUISE CONTROL WIRE, THE STEERING WHEEL ROTARY COUPLER CAN OVERHEAT AND INADVERTENTLY DEPLOY THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG.
Consequence: DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM WITHOUT WARNING CAN CAUSE A DRIVER TO LOSE VEHICLE CONTROL.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSIBLE LINK WHICH WILL PROTECT THE ROTARY COUPLER FROM OVERHEATING.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THERE WAS A SMOKE ODOR AS THE CRUISE CONTROL INDEPENDENTLY DISENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE MADE A JERKING MOTION. THE SRS AND ABS WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED A BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 98V040000 (AIR BAGS, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 159,000.

THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WITNESSED THE VEHICLE ROLLING DOWNHILL AND STRIKING A TREE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED FRONTAL IMPACT DAMAGE AND THE FRONTAL AIRBAGS DEPLOYED UPON IMPACT. A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE REAR WHO WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE POLICE WERE ON THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THERE'S A LOUD DEEP SOUND WITHIN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT THAT'S HEARD WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IDLING OR RUNNING. THIS OCCURS BECAUSE THE ENGINE CAM SHIFTS. I AM UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING ON YOUR WEB SITE THAT GUARANTEES THIS LETTER I RECEIVED IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR MY VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE REAR RIGHT TIRE BLEW OUT. THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND ROLLED OVER. THE FUEL TANK CRACKED, AND THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE DRIVER AND TWO PASSENGERS SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES, AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL. THE THIRD PASSENGER DIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED IT WAS A PLASTIC FUEL TANK THAT HAD FAULTY O RINGS. *AK *SC *JB
TIRE FAILED, VEHICLE BECAME UNSTABLE AND ROLLED OVER GAS TANK INTEGRITY FAILED, GAS SPLILLED AND IGNITED. MY SEVEN YEAR OLD SON WAS BURNED TO DEATH, MY 2 YEAR OLD, MY WIFE AND MYSELF SENT TO HOSPITAL WITH THIRD DEGREE BURNS. LAND ROVER OFFICIALS AGREED TO A RECALL TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE.
