2013 Hyundai Genesis sedan (BH) is experiencing the intermittent soft brake pedal and reduced braking pressure that matches the TSB 22-BR-001H for the HECU on 2009-2012 Genesis sedans. I took it to the local dealership but their mechanic said they could not recreate the condition. The ABS and ESC lights have both come on at times but I was told there are no stored codes. The tech noted that the rear driver brake pads appeared to have some additional wear indicating additional ABS activity or sticking brake pads. I paid to have a brake service performed and the brake fluid flush/replacement performed to eliminate the concern of any air entrapment or sticking brake pads. However, this work did not resolve the problem. The shop said there are no open recalls nor brake related TSBs for the 2013. They have not fully tested the master cylinder, booster, nor the HECU. With no support for the model year, despite the MANY issues reported for this problem on the 2013 and Hyundai's knowledge of these problems form 2009-2020 model years, this TSB should be expanded for additional model years and likely should be considered as a recall repair due to the safety risk of brake pressure loss.

Total engine failure due to bearing displacement which caused the engine to fail and throw a rod. This caused 3 holes in the engine block which caused oil to pour out onto the highway. There have been multiple class action lawsuits with Hyundai due to the same issue with other Hyundai models, and I believe that this vehicle should have an engine recall as well. This is a safety issue which can cause collisions and potentially lead to injury or death

- I was driving down the road and the engine just died. When the tow truck driver showed up, he made a comment that 'he picks one of these cars (hyundai genesis) up almost everyday for the same issue'. He was the first to tell us the engine seized. - Depending on location of where this happened (ex. freeway with no place to pull over), this could have been a very dangerous situation. - The dealer has let us know that the engine did seize - The vehicle has only been inspected by the hyundai dealership service team - No prior warning signals were present before the engine seized Note - we have full service records for this vehicle

I am submitting this complaint regarding a catastrophic engine failure in my 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe while driving at 70 mph on the highway. Without any prior warning, the engine suddenly started making a loud knocking noise from under the hood, and shortly after, the car lost power. There were no check engine lights or other indicators signaling an issue before the failure. I was able to safely pull the car over to the side of the highway without further incident, but the engine was completely inoperable. The vehicle has since been inspected by a certified mechanic, who confirmed that the engine failure was due to a mechanical defect, likely tied to the known issues with Hyundai’s 2.0T engines. These engines have been reported to suffer from bearing failures and lubrication problems that can lead to catastrophic engine failure, which is consistent with my experience. Despite being aware of this widespread issue, Hyundai has yet to issue a recall for the affected vehicles, which is a serious safety concern. Drivers are at risk of unexpected engine failure with no prior warning, especially at high speeds, as was the case in my incident. I believe Hyundai’s failure to act and address this issue puts the safety of drivers in jeopardy. I am requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigate this matter and encourage Hyundai to issue a recall for these vehicles. Unknown. All I know is my son purchased a Genesis coupe used and within less then 48 hours. I watched the vehicle catch fire on the freeway and smoke uncontrollably. As I drove behind him. He was unaware of the first or smoke coming from the car. Finally I got his attention to pull over and now the car won't work. The seller refuses to give him a refund or mechanical assistance for his purchase. It was a sight I wouldn't wish upon no one. To watch your only child drive a car that is on fire and smoking. I wish he saw what I seen. It's unsafe for someone to sale car and someone and allow them to drive away knowing that there safety not at risk. It should be a crime. Illegal misrepresentation of a vehicle safety conditions.It should not matter if it was a dealership or private sales. It's auto fraud and should be punishable by law.

I was driving normally on the highway when my a loud noise came from the front of my car. My engine completely died, I was able to get on the shoulder of the road before power steering died. After taking it to a mechanic a rod had went thru the engine block. There was no warning at all. Hyundai has had a recall on 2.0T engines but not for the genesis engine. This failure and destruction of my engine follows with the warnings and outcomes that the recall for other 2.0T engines.

The adjustment on the steering column for telescopic/up/down adjustments doesn't hold the steering wheel in place, even under light pressure like trying to honk the horn, the column just pushes in. Since the column cannot stay in place under light pressure, it won't stay in place if the driver's airbag is deployed possibly causing severe injury or death. I first noticed this problem back in 2015, the local deal refused to fix the problem and wanted me to pay for the NEW steering column and the labor to replace it.

There was a recall on some Hyundai engines from 2011-2012. I have been told by Hyundai that my vehicle was not included in the recall as it is a 2013. It is the same engine and has malfunctioned in one of the cylinders rendering the car inoperable because of that engine malfunction. The car has had routine maintenance and is at 100k miles.

I received the letter to call the dealership to fix the recall involving the anti-lock break system. I called my local dealership in Enfield, CT and they had me bring my car in on Thursday [XXX]. So I made arrangements to leave my car there for the day. I get a call in the afternoon stating that they didn’t have the part to fix it and they would have to get it. So after being inconvenienced by not having my car for the day, the problem wasn’t even fixed. So after a couple of weeks of not hearing anything from the dealership, I called to check on it. They still didn’t have the part. So now it’s August 19th and I called again to check on it and there’s still no part to fix it. This is very discouraging since I drive this car often and there’s a fire risk of it being parked or driving. I don’t really understand what is going. Is there no part to fix the recall? It has been over a year now and Hyundai will not even give a time estimate of when they will offer to replace the fuse block that is the fire risk. They tell me to just park my car far from any buildings?!? This is NOT a reasonable plan nor should it be this long. Waiting for the day my car combusts is not reasonable. NHTSA recommended that the dealer offer a loaner vehicle but they have not done that either.

Was driving home from work, turned at intersection and car just died while in motion/traffic. No check engine line, no low oil indicator, no overheat, no warning whatsoever. Was able to coast to adjacent intersection and police officer helped push off to side. Tried to restart but engine just wouldn’t turn over. Electrical fine, dashboard lit up. Towed it to my mechanic and he suspected either alternator or intercooler hose failure. But when he checked it out, nothing, inexplicably could not get engine to crank. I’ve religiously babied this car with AMS Oil Full Synthetic - Signature Series SAE 5W-30 every 7.5k-8k miles, premium gas, regularly maintained. Though I am at high mileage (121,873 mi), I honestly expected longer life for the engine. I just got no warning whatsoever. My 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe with the 2.0L Theta II engine that was part of a recall from hyundai for other vehicles engine crapped out. It's the same issue from the same years as the other ThetaII recall, but because my car is a different model I am not covered in the class action lawsuit. Cars should not stop working at 64K miles and car companies should not skirt their responsibility when other engines of the same type have failed.

Intermittent softening of brake pedal when applying pressure to brake while driving and when parked. The brake pedal becomes soft where the vehicle does not slow down because the brake is not applied until you push further. Applying full pressure on the brakes sometimes does not bring the vehicle to a complete stop. This is unsafe because when driving on the highway and traffic comes to a sudden stop, the time for my car to come to a complete stop is significantly and dangerously delayed. If driver does not keep a distance that is more than normal, vehicle has the possibility of crashing and putting the driver and other vehicles near in danger. When taken to Clay Clooney Hyundai of Mesquite, they did not acknowledge recall because there is no remedy for it. The failure of the brake pressurization began early summer of 2023. The vehicle is ready for an inspection to resolve the recall upon request.

Hyundai is saying I can’t park or drive without concern of a fire hazard. Hyundai was called and they said a remedy would be available by the end of the month. That was said in November and now it is the middle of January. I need a vehicle for everyday life and this is getting costly for me. Usually a remedy is to be resolved within a reasonable time, two weeks on average, contractually speaking. Please resolve this problem immediately.

SUNROOF GLASS SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 295 JACKSONVILLE,FL FOR REASONS UNKNOWN. Luckily interior sunroof shade was pulled close or the shattered glass fragments would have fallen on passengers heads, The sunroof OEM is a powered sunroof that was in closed position and is not used or opened often. Outside weather at time was DAY LIGHT about 4:45pm no rain temp about 55 degrees. Called local Hyundai dealer to see if there were any open recalls & TSB's related to the sunroof shattering. On multiple occasions, occurring more and more frequently, my 2013 Genesis R-Spec sedan has experienced brake pedal fade issues. The brakes work fine one minute and the next the pedal will go almost to the floor before slowing the vehicle down. The car has approximately 150K miles and is still in great shape. Brakes have been serviced, checked, and inspected by a reputable mechanic. No leaks or other issues noted. I did find a TSB related to this, Hyundai TSB [XXX], also it looks like there is a recall on earlier models, recall number13V-489 / 114, built on or before March of 2012. My car was built Oct 2012, but i believe it is affected. I contacted my local dealer to check to see if the TSB had been expanded or if there were any other issues and no deal. The person on the phone did tell me my car was not covered under the two issues above. I have since made an appointment to have the computer scanned to gather additional data. Please advise. the abs light stays on no matter what ive tried resetting it and everything and it wont work, the electrical system in the car sometimes doesnt work properly this regarding the headlights and interior buttons, the transmission on the car since i have bought it has a really dangerous kick back on it in the transmission jolts the car really hard to the point its dangerous to drive on dry and rainy days because the tires will lose traction and i will have to get the traction back under control due to the kick back in this transmsion problem it has caused the engine to give out also.

The Theta II engine is found in Elantras, Sonatas, Velosters, and other cars from the same time period and these cars are eligible for an engine replacement due to a recall. Is it possible for the Genesis Coupe 2.0T to also receive this recall as its engine has the same problem?

My car was robbed. It was robbed because the door lock was broken into, and the ignition was started with a USB cord (the "Kia Boys" tiktok challenge). When my car was recovered the engine was also damaged, necessitating deep engine repairs that I could not afford. My insurance hasn't agreed to cover it despite Comprehensive coverage.

Each time service was required my car had suddenly stopped running without any acceleration. The start engine button would not work. Each time car was towed to Serra Hyundai. At no time, was there any mentioning of needing a new engine or engine replacement. The service dates: 01/05/2023, 01/14/2023, and 04/14/2023. My last non acceleration occurred on night of June 4, 2023. It could have been tragic. I was accelerating to get on freeway heard a loud noise like something fell from up under car then vehicle just stopped and would not accelerate leaving me stranded and cars having to go around me. This could have been a terrible accident. I had car towed to Serra Hyundai. The services being quoted to me is a new engine with estimated cost $7900. I cannot afford that amount and I’m now without a car. However because I have kept maintenance program up on my car the service department submitted PA101761. Unfortunately, it was declined because warranty has expired. In more research, there has been a recall on 2013-2015 Genesis Coupe for the Powertrain, Engine and Suspension. Therefore, Hyundai is fully aware there is an engine issue. The National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) has 149 complaints with the same engine powertrain issues. NHTSA ID# 11435981 dated October 8, 2021 had the exact same issues with vehicle and experience(s) as myself. Hyundai has issued a recall. Recall 135, NHTSA Campaign # 15V756000 and Technical Service Bulletin(TSA)#15-01-054. In my opinion, everything described in this recall and every issue I have is outlined in this campaign. I’m being told my car VIN was not included. There have been several complaints over the years for same issue this cannot be coincidental. A recall should be issued for automatic 2013-15 Genesis Coupe to include my Vin#. Most vehicles are at or approaching 10 years and warranty expired. I currently can’t afford new car and on fixed income, or $7900 new engine on 180,000 mile car.

The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in the driveway and turned off, her daughter noticed big flames of fire coming from underneath the front driver's side of the vehicle at approximately 4:00 AM. Additionally, the contact stated that the fire had damaged her daughter's vehicle as it was parked next to hers. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with the assistance of the fire department. A fire department report was filed. The contact was unsure whether a police report was filed. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle remained in the contact's driveway. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The problem is with the car's braking. Sometimes, the brake pedal will exhibit a "Low Brake Pedal" problem, where the point where the brake pedal starts to stop the car is lower than normal. If I use the brakes and then use them again right away, the brakes always stop the car as they should. But sometimes, you have to press the brake pedal further to the floor to get the car to stop. I've had the brake fluid replaced and this didn't change the behavior. The Hyundai dealership said the problem is either a faulty automatic brake system (ABS) component or a faulty master cylinder. At this point, the car still stops, however, it's odd to have to press the brake pedal further to have to get the car to stop. As this gets worse, the pedal may have to be pressed to the floor to get the car to stop. And eventually, the car might not stop even if the brake pedal is pressed to the floor. This problem is just like NHTSA recall campaign #13V489000, which affects Hyundai year models 2009-2012. But my car is a 2013, just one year after that recall's model year window.

Last December, 12/11/2021, my son and I traveled from Pittsburgh PA to Columbus Ohio so he could buy a used car from a dealer. It was a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. We spent a few hours at the dealership, I co-signed for him, and he drove back the Hyundai while I drove my own car. Nothing was disclosed to us that we would have questioned. After a few weeks or so of driving the car, a mechanic looked at his car and told us it had been modified. I asked someone who had the same car/year/model and he confirmed this. This modification is significant, in the drive train/engine/under the hood/exhaust rather than something visual, on the outside of the car. It not only sounds far too loud as compared to the exact same year/model but drives differently. The mechanic pointed out the modifications under the hood and told us it should have been obvious to the dealer. I even googled photos of what stock engines look like and mine is definitely different. So, my son never registered the car in PA, as he wasn't sure what to do with it. He drove it for a few months for roughly 5000 miles as he had no other forms of transportation. He's been using my car instead. We can't pay for a car that just sits. It’s still registered with the dealer. The car has just been sitting because we're not sure how safe it is. One of the modifications that wasn't disclosed was a performance kind of muffler/exhaust. It is so loud that the driver can't hear sirens and horns. Also, we didn't know who installed these items. The driver could be exposed to dangerous fumes. We tried working with the dealer to no avail. At this point, we'd just like to return the car and get our money back that we paid the bank.

No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer, where it was repaired under Technical Service Bulletin #15-01-054 for Rear Differential Inspection; however, the contact stated that the failure recurred and that while he was stopped at a stop signal, the vehicle lost motive power, and he noticed that the driveshaft had become detached. The vehicle was inoperable and was first towed to the residence and then back to the local dealer. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting further diagnostic and repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

My engine failed as I was coming off a highway off ramp. When it failed I briefly lost all control because the belt stopped and I had no power to steer nor. Able to shift from 5th to 6th gear. Since I was just coming off the ramp I was able to pull over safely since there was light traffic at the time. If there was any more traffic when this happened it would have caused me to not be able to control my vehicle and possibly cause a extreme accident. Once pulled over I was barely able to drive up to the exit to fully get off the highway to avoid getting hit. Once parked out of traffic, I called my insurance company to get my car towed. The engine had a extremely loud knock on the bottom half of the engine as well as noise from the top end. The issue that caused this was confirmed by an Independent service center was caused related to the TSB's Hyundai put out themselves. This exact engine has been recalled for many other model vehicles, but the Genesis Coupe was never included. When talking to Hyundai service centers they want me to pay to tow my car in, pay to have it inspected all for them to diagnose the issue & cause. Then to tell me once done this engine still is not covered in any recall. My insurance is still processing my claim for my roadside service at this time. There was absolutely no warning at all, nor any symptom of any kind. Vehicle had been serviced by Hyundai and the one time at an Independent service center, while new tires was being put on, had an oil change with using Hyundai recommended oil & Hyundai filter. The only warning was at that time it failed the lights came on my dash. The cause for this simplified to lower engine failure.

The engine consumed oil and prematurely wore out the rod bearings. This is an issue that has already been settled in a class action lawsuit. The only issue is my car isn’t included in the lawsuit even though it is classified as the same motor that prematurely fails.

I was driving to work on 07/14/2022 and my brake pedal was going soft. I than got an abs light and a traction control light. I was concerned and took it in to get a health report on it and to see if there were any codes. The service center than pulled a c2380 code for a Faulty HECU. I started researching this code for myself and seen that there have been recalls for this exact thing for the Hyundai genesis sedans but not the coupes. Please Hyundai revise your list and add the Hyundai Genesis Coupes on to it and make this right.

Vehicle braking fades in a random manner. An independent service center technician experienced the problem during one test drive. The technician assessed the braking system and stated that the master cylinder is operating correctly and there is no air in hydraulic lines. The tech suggested that it could be an issue with the hydraulic ECU which was part of a recall campaign for prior year models. This condition puts the safety of driver, passengers, and other vehicles on the road at risk. No alerts, warnings, or indicators have been triggered on the dash.

Happend on 11/13/2021 morning around 10.30 AM. I lost complete control on my Hyundai GENESIS 2013 (v8, Race Specification 5.0) on brakes. I was gonig downhill and wanted to control the car but car was not responsive at all after applying breaks. This happened only for a few seconds, the engigne light came up on dashboard, a couple of other lights on dashboard also may have lighted, but I did not remember which one. I was very scared for a few moments. The engine light and other alram ligts went down and I got control. I want to take this car to nearby Hyundai dealer but I wanted to record this incident, so that if it happens while I drive, I should not be blamed for reckless driving. I am driving this car for many years (since 2013) and this has never happened before.

On Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at approximately 2:30pm, the engine failed suddenly while driving on the freeway in the left-hand lane at approx. 65 mph. Vehicle vibrated and gave off loud knocking sound and engine power was lost. Electrical power was maintained. No emergency lane was available on the left, so I had to coast to the right-hand emergency lane. Vehicles from behind came extremely close to striking my vehicle. The vehicle is currently in the possession of Hyundai; and appears to indicate connecting rod bearing failure.

While I am driving at around 20 mph, all of sudden engine shuts off, steering wheel is frozen, brake doesn't work, all light remained on dash board. I put it in park and start it. It comes back without any issues. No code are registered so dealer can not see the problem. Also happened in parking a lot about 5 weeks back. This is big safety issue where I might run into somebody without steering wheel and brake control.

The multi function switch on the steering column has a short within its components. When driving at night with the headlights on and I activate the multi function switch to change lanes, the headlights flicker. This is the second multi function switch that is having the same symptoms, because I had the same problem years ago and the multi function switch was replaced under warranty. It is now exhibiting the same symptoms as before but is no longer under warranty.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF PARTS, WHICH WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL JANUARY OF 2020. GENESIS COUPE HAS BEEN TO THE MECHANIC THREE TIMES FOR BRAKE FAILURE. THE ROTORS, PADS, AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED THE FIRST TIME AND THE BRAKES STILL DIDNT WORK. THE SECOND AND THIRD TIME THE BRAKE LINES WERE BLED, AND THE BRAKES STILL FAILED. THE BRAKE PEDAL LOSES PRESSURE AND PUSHES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE GROUND WHILE DRIVING CAUSING INABILITY TO BRAKE THE CAR. MECHANIC SAYS THE PROBLEM MAY BE HECU AS WITH THE PRIOR RECALL FOR GENESIS SEDANS. THERE ARE NO OTHER BASES FOR THE FAILURE THAT HE CAN FIND.

THE VEHICLE HAS AN ISSUE WITH AN INCONSISTENT BRAKE PATTERN. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDDLE IS DEPRESSED IT SOMETIMES WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND REQUIRE THE OPERATOR TO "PUMP THE BRAKES" IN ORDER TO REGAIN THE BRAKING ABILITY. THE BRAKE PEDDLE DOES NOT REQUIRE THIS ALL THE TIME. I WILL BE HAVING THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT BY A TECHNICIAN TO VERIFY THAT THERE IS CORROSION IN THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AS IT APPEARS TO MYSELF TO BE CONTAMINATED. THE VEHICLE SPEED HAD NO CORRELATION TO WHEN BRAKES BEGAN TO FAIL AND REQUIRED PUMPING THE PEDDLE IN ORDER TO REGAIN BRAKING POWER.

MY DAUGHTER GOT HIT BY 2 CARS AND ONLY THE HEADREST POPPED OPENED BUT NO AIRBAGS WENT OFF. A CAR HIT THE CAR BEHIND HER, SHE WAS A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR THAT HIT THE CAR BEHIND HER THEN HIT HER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE (ALMOST LIKE A T-BONE). SHE NOW HAS A LOT OF SHOULDER, NECK AND SPINE ISSUES FROM GETTING SLAMMED INTO THE DRIVERS DOOR. IF THE SIDE AIRBAG WOULD HAVE GONE OFF, SHE WOULD NOT BE IN SO MUCH PAIN FROM GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND AND 2 SECONDS LATER GOT HIT FROM THE SIDE. I SEE LOTS OF ISSUES ON THE COUPE BUT NOT ON THE SEDAN MODELS & I FEEL THAT OTHERS SHOULD KNOW THIS TOO. ALSO, COLORADO POLICE FORGOT TO PUT PASSENGER IN HER CAR ON THE REPORT AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT. HER PASSENGER TOOK THE HIT ON PASSENGER DOOR AND THEY HAD TO PULL THE OTHER CAR OUT OF MY DAUGHTERS CAR. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ON THE FRAME DAMAGE, BUT THE COLLISION REPAIR SAID "DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, IT WILL BE FIND IF HIT AGAIN, HER AIRBAGS DID NOT GO OFF EITHER. THE DAMAGE WAS JUST OVER $11K AND INSURANCE VALUED CAR AT $17K WITH NO PROOF ON HOW THEY CAME UP WITH NOT TOTALING THE CAR. SHE IS PARANOID TO DRIVE IT NOW, CUZ WE DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAGS WILL GO OFF. COLLISION COMPANY REFUSED TO CHECK THE SENSORS, STATING "WE SHOULD HAVE HAD THEM CHECKED BEFORE WE BOUGHT THE CAR". OUR FAMILY OF 6 HAS HAD MANY HEALTH RELATED ISSUES SINCE OWNING THIS CAR AND MOLD TESTING HAS SHOWN TOXIC MOLD. EVERY TIME I WOULD TRY TO ACCELERATE MY TACHOMETER WOULD GO TO ABOUT 5,000 RPMS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A SUDDEN JERK AS IF I WAS BEING HIT FROM BEHIND. MY FAMILY BECAME VERY SCARED THINKING SOMEONE WAS GOING TO REAR END US IN TRAFFIC. THANKFULLY I WAS A ABLE TO NAVIGATE HOME USING SIDE STREETS. THUS PROMPTING MYSELF TO TAKE THIS VEHICLE TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP NOW I AM WAITING FOR AN EXPLANATION TO WHAT IS REALLY CAUSING THIS VEHICLE TO REACT THIS WAY.

I AM HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM! EXCEPT THIS WILL BE MY 3RD TIME GETTING IT REPLACED. HYUNDAI WILL REPLACE IT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT RUNS OUT AND I'M STILL CONSTANTLY REPLACING IT. I HAVE REPLACED IT AT 16,000 MILES, THEN AT 34,000 MILES AND NOW AT 54,000. IF YOU NOTICE, THERE IS A TREND. AS LEAVING THE STORE, THE VEHICLE(A STANDARD) WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR BESIDES REVERSE. THE LIGHTS WOULD NOT COME ON. THE CAR WAS INITIALLY IN 1ST GEAR AND ROLLED BACKWARD WITH FOOT ON GAS AND CLUTCH. THE SEATBELT LIGHT KEPT DINGING AND FLASHING EVEN THOUGH THE SEATBELT WAS HOOKED IN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED. THIS TIME IT OCCURRED AS WE WERE PULLING ONTO A HIGHWAY FROM A STORE. THE CAR HAD TO BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IF THERE WAS A CAR COMING, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT.

I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT MY 2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE FROM A DEALER IN GEORGIA. FROM AUGUST 2014 TO PRESENT (AUGUST 2015), THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED/CUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY ON 8 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, 7 TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 5 MPH AND 45 MPH, AND ONCE WHILE SITTING IDLE IN PARK. WHEN STALLING, THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENS AND/OR LOCKS WHICH MAKES IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER, THE BRAKES HARDEN WHICH MAKE IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP, AND THE DASH LIGHTS UP WITH VARIOUS SYMBOLS AND INDICATORS MUCH LIKE IT WOULD IF IT ONLY HAD POWER BUT WITHOUT THE ENGINE STARTED. TO GET THE CAR GOING AGAIN, I HAVE TO COME TO A STOP, PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, PUSH THE START/STOP BUTTON, AND THE VEHICLE STARTS AGAIN. ON THE 7TH TIME OF THE CAR STALLING, MY WIFE WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN THE VEHICLE CUT OFF. SHE NEARLY PLOWED INTO A VEHICLE THAT WAS STOPPED AT THE LIGHT MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN ONTO THE STREET SHE WAS COMING FROM, AND THEN NEARLY CAUSED A 3 CAR PILE-UP BEHIND HER BECAUSE OF HER UNEXPECTED BRAKING AND SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE CAR. AS OF RIGHT NOW WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR ANY LONGER. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES NOW. ON THE FIRST VISIT BACK IN OCTOBER 2014, THEY CLEANED THE FUEL INJECTION AND THROTTLE BODY, SAYING THAT MAYBE WE HAD A BAD BATCH OF GAS THAT LEFT CARBON DEPOSITS. THEY KEPT OUR CAR FOR A WEEK. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. FAST FORWARD SEVERAL MONTHS AND HERE WE ARE AGAIN AT THE DEALER FOR TIME NUMBER TWO. THIS TIME THEY KEPT IT FOR ABOUT 12 DAYS AND DID ANOTHER CLEANING OF THE FUEL INJECTION AND THROTTLE BODY. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. LAST FRIDAY, AUGUST 14TH 2014, 3 DAYS AFTER GETTING IT BACK FROM THE DEALER, IT STALLED AGAIN. WE REFUSED TO DRIVE IT THAT WEEKEND, AND I DROVE IT ONLY TO BRING IT BACK TO THE DEALER THIS PAST MONDAY AUGUST 17TH. WE DO NOT FEEL SAFE

ENGINE STALLED AGAIN IN END OF MAY, 2015 WHILE THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN. IT WAS TRAVELING AT A SPEED BETWEEN 10-20 MPH. THAT WAS THE 4TH TIME WE EXPERIENCED ENGINE STALL IN THE 2.5 YEARS OF OUR OWNERSHIP. WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED, ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEM NORMAL - RADIO CONTINUED TO PLAY, AC AND FAN WERE STILL ON. WE ONLY NOTICE IT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN MORE AND THERE WERE NO ENGINE NOISE. AFTER ENGINE WAS STALLED, WE STOPPED THE CAR AND SHIFTED THE SHIFTER BACK TO "PARK". WE WERE ABLE TO START THE ENGINE RIGHT UP AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE AFTERWARD. OUTSIDE WEATHER TEMPERATURE WAS HOT (UPPER 80?S TO 90?S) AT THE TIME. IN THE 4 INCIDENTS, THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE WE WERE ON A FLAT ROAD, INCLINE ROAD, GOING STRAIGHT AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN. IT HAPPENED RANDOMLY AND WE COULD NOT REPRODUCE IT. FIRST, THE CAR BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH SOON AFTER PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2013 WITH 13,000 MILES. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP TWICE . HAD MISFIRE CODES. WAS TOLD NOT TO USE GAS FROM KROGER. EVEN USING SHELL MID GRADE GAS CAR RUNS ROUGH AND PRONOUNCED STUMBLING UPON HIGHWAY ACCELERATION. SECOND, EXHAUST IS SOOTY AND STAINING REAR BUMPER AND CORRODING THE EXHAUST TIPS. DEALER SAID THE ENGINE (6 CYLINDER) IS HIGH PERFORMANCE AND ALL HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINES SOOT. HE WOULD NOT WRITE THAT RESPONSE ON REPAIR TICKET. I COMPLETELY BACKED OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND STEPPED ON IT AGAIN WHEN THE ENGINE FINALLY BEGAN TO RESPOND. VEHICLES WERE FAST APPROACHING AND IN THAT MOMENT I FELT SCARED AND LOST TRUST IN MY CAR'S FUNCTIONALITY. EARLIER THAT DAY I ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN ACCELERATING, WHEN ALREADY MOVING, I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT WOULD WOBBLE. IT'S DIFFICULT TO DESCRIBE. IT FELT LIKE VERY SUBTLE MOMENTARY LOSSES OF POWER OR ACCELERATION FOLLOWED BY A RECOVERY IN THE ACCELERATION AND THEN REPEATING BUT IN QUICK SUCCESSION. YOU WOULD ONLY NOTICE IT IF YOU OWNED THE CAR. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT. BOUGHT MY 2013 GENESIS 3.8 WITH TECHNOLOGY & PREMIUM OPTIONS ON MARCH 1, 2013. I HAVE HAD TWO PROBLEMS FROM AROUND THE 2ND MONTH AFTER MY PURCHASE. THEY ARE: 1) THE DRIVER SEAT AND THE BACK NOT GETTING MUCH AIRFLOW EVEN AT THE SWITCH SETTING AT MAX POSITION; 2) THE SEAT LEATHER COVER IS NOT SNUG TIGHT - KIND OF LOOSE AND WAVY IN THE MIDDLE AREA. HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER SEVEN TIMES STARTING AUGUST 2013. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE FAN AND FILTER, FOUND BLOWER MOTOR WEAKENED, SEIZED. REMOVED AND REPLACED BLOWER, SWAPPED SEAT WITH ANOTHER CAR IN STOCK/LOANER, FOUND DRIVER SEAT BOTTOM DEFORMED; REMOVED AND REPLACED DRIVER SEAT BOTTOM, AND HAVE, WITHOUT HYUNDAI'S APPROVAL, INSERTED A "HOSE" TUBE UNDER THE SEAT TO IMPROVE AIRFLOW. I HAVE ALSO HAD TWO DIFFERENT FIELD SERVICE REPS SPEND A DAY, MONTH APART, WITH THE CAR - TESTING AND MEASURING VOLTAGE AND CURRENT TO THE MOTOR. THE FIRST FIELD SERVICE REP AGREED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND REQUESTED "DOCUMENTATION" FROM HYUNDAI-KOREA, BUT NEVER RECEIVED ANY. THAT REP WAS TRANSFERRED OUT, AND THE NEW FIELD REP DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. AFTER THIS, THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DIRECTOR TRIED TO HELP ME BY INSTALLING A SMALL "HOSE" TUBE JUST OVER THE AIR-INTAKE OPENING, BUT THAT STILL DID NOT IMPROVE ANYTHING. RIGHT NOW, AT MAX SETTING OF THE SWITCH, I STILL FEEL NO AIR COMING FROM ANY OF THE VENTED HOLES - ON THE SEAT AND ON THE BACK! I HAVE FILED THE DEFECT NOTIFICATION FORM WITH THE HYUNDAI AT THEIR CONSUMER CONNECT CENTER ADDRESS IN CALIFORNIA, AND SENT A COPY TO THE FLORIDA ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE FOR THE LEMON LAW ADMINISTRATION. I DID DO A GOOGLE SEARCH SOME TIME BACK AND FOUND LOTS OF PEOPLE IN THIS FORUM HAVE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS DRIVER SEAT COOLING PROBLEM AND SOME HAD VERY CREATIVE SOLUTIONS. TWO MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR, I HAD A SENSOR PROBLEM, WHICH I GOT FIXED IN FAIRFAX HYUNDAI WHICH IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR A BRAND NEW CAR. ON 10TH APRIL, I HEARD GRINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR RIGHT TIRE. I TOOK IT TO OTHER HYUNDAI AGAIN. BELOW IS THE REPORT THAT THEY GAVE ME AND I WAS STUNNED. "TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT THE REAR RIGHT STRUT HAD SNAP FROM BOLD ON FRAME, ONE BOLT MISSING PRIOR AND ALSO FOUND GREEN DUCT TAPE THAT WAS HOLDING THE STRUT TO THE CAR. CUSTOMER ADVISED VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IF VEHICLE IS DRIVEN THERE IS A HIGH POSSIBILITY OF THE STRUT FALLING OFF WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS AND AN ACCIDENT WILL RESULT." A BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE FORMED AND THE TIRE DEFLATED OCT 7, 2013. NEW TIRES AND NEW CAR PURCHASED JULY 22, 2013 AND ONLY HAD 2340 MILES ON THE CAR/TIRES WHEN THE DEFECTIVE BUBBLE OCCURRED. THERE WAS NO IMPACTS OR ROAD HAZARDS TO CAUSE THE DEFECTIVE BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL. THE SIDEWALL BUBBLE AREA WAS MUSHY VERSUS RIGID/FIRM AS THE REST OF THE SIDEWALL. I WAS ABLE TO PRESS THE BRAKE EVEN FURTHER, BUT I KEPT ROLLING FORWARD UNTIL I CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THANKFULLY, IT WAS A VERY STURDY TRUCK WITH A TRAILER HITCH. I HAVE DAMAGE TO MY GRILL WHERE THE HITCH HIT MY CAR. THE BRAKE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT STOP MY CAR FROM ROLLING FORWARD. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE CLOSEST PARKING LOT IN THAT INTERSECTION. I WAITED FOR A TOW TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE BRAKES SEEMED TO WORK FINE AGAIN; THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR OR ITS BRAKES. I LEFT THE CAR WITH THE MECHANIC TO DRIVE HOME AND CONTINUE TO TEST IT TO REENACT THE PROBLEM. WHEN I GOOGLED "HYUNDAI GENESIS BRAKE FAILURE", THERE WERE A FEW OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE STEERING SYSTEM, DASH BOARD LIGHTS, AND OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS BECAME DISABLED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST HOWEVER, THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE THAT CAUSED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,800.

MY DAUGHTER WAS PULLING ONTO THE FREEWAY FROM AN EXIT AND HEARD A LOUD SNAP. SHE REALIZED THAT SOMETHING SEEMED TO HAVE BROKEN UNDER HER RIGHT TIRE. SHE MANAGED TO DRIVE TO THE NEXT EXIT AND UP TO WHERE SHE WORKS. WHEN SHE GOT OUT OF HER CAR, SHE AND A FRIEND LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND REALIZED THAT THE AXLE WAS CRACKED AND COMING APART. SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME THAT NEXT MORNING FROM WORK BUT NOTICED THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS GRINDING OR DRAGGING. WHEN SHE TOOK IT TO HYUNDAI THE NEXT DAY, THEY CLAIMED THAT SHE HIT SOMETHING. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE FRONT AXLE WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHE IS ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT SHE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. HYUNDAI WAS VERY RUDE AND CALLED ME (HER MOTHER) AND STATED THAT SHE HAD TO HAVE HIT SOMETHING. MY DAUGHTER WAS VERY ADAMANT THAT SHE ABSOLUTELY DID NOT HIT ANYTHING BUT THAT THE AXLE JUST SNAPPED! IN ORDER TO GET IT FIXED RIGHT AWAY, WE WERE TOLD BY OUR INSURANCE THAT WE HAD TO ACCEPT FAULT AND MAKE A CLAIM. THIS IS WHAT WE DID IN ORDER TO GET IT REPAIRED RIGHT AWAY, BUT WE BOTH KNOW THAT THE AXLE HAD TO HAVE BEEN FAULTY TO BEGIN WITH. I HAVE FOUND OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE HYUNDAI SANTA FE AND THEY ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE AXLES ON HYUNDAIS AND THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT MUST BE LOOKED INTO. I HAD 2 ACCIDENTS ON 7/7/2013. ONE LOW SPEED REAR END COLLISION WITH A MINI-VAN. THE OTHER WAS A HIGH SPEED REAR END COLLISION WITH LARGE RV. BOTH TIMES I HAD THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, AND COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE USING THE CAR'S BRAKE PEDAL SYSTEM. I WAS EVENTUALLY TAKEN TO AN ER, THEN ADMITTED TO AN ICU WARD. I SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION, BRUISES, AND ABRASIONS. MOST OF WHAT HAPPENED IN THE HIGH SPEED COLLISION ARE OF TEMPORARY MOMENTS OF MEMORIES DUE TO THE CONCUSSION AND LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS. I AM QUITE UPSET TO HAVE GONE THROUGH THESE ACCIDENTS WITH A NEW 2013 HYUNDAI GENESIS THAT WAS RENTED FROM ENTERPRISE RENTAL CAR FROM LOGAN AIRPORT IN BOSTON MASS. WHEN ACCELERATING AT LOW SPEEDS (SPECIALLY ON FREEWAYS) THE TRANSMISSION EXPERIENCES A DELAYED SHIFT BETWEEN GEARS 3-5. THE SHIFT DELAY TYPICALLY LASTS 2-3 SECONDS. THIS CAUSES THE RPMS TO INCREASE TO 3000-4500. DRIVER HAS TO HEAVILY ACCELERATE TO ENABLE THE TRANSMISSION TO UP SHIFT. IN ADDITION, THIS CAUSES THE REAR TIRES TO SPIN IF ESC IS TURNED OFF MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE.
