TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 CHEVROLET CAMARO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT BELT MECHANISM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.

I PURCHASED A 1999 TAHOE USED IN 2001 FORM AN INDIVIDUAL. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING IT I BEGAN TO NOTICE THE UNWANTED ANTILOCK ACTIVATION. ON MANY OCCASIONS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE AUTOMOBILE I HAVE EXPERIENCED UNWANTED ANTILOCK ACTIVATION WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I CAN NOT TELL YOU THE NUMBER OF TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED BECAUSE IT HAPPENS EVERYTIME I TRY TO STOP THE CAR. I HAVE NOT, AS OF YET, BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ALTHOUGH, I HAVE HAD MANY VERY CLOSE CALLS. I RECENTLY HEARD OF THE RECALL IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES AND WOULD LIKE TO INFORM YOU THAT I LIVE IN NORTH CAROLINA AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ON MY TAHOE. I HAVE HAD MANY DIFFERENT OCCASIONS (MORE THAN 10) IN WHICH I FASTENED MY SEATBELT AND BEGAN TO DRIVE AWAY AND THE SEATBELT POPPED OUT OF THE RECEIVER, OR EVEN ARRIVING AT MY LOCATION, AND BEFORE I UN-SNAPPED MY SEATBELT, IT CAME LOOSE FROM THE RECEIVER. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND MANY COMPLAINTS, THE WIPER MOTOR WAS REPLACED, AND THE WIPERS FAILED AGAIN. THE WIPER STALK WAS REPLACED AND REPAIRED AND THE WIPERS FAILED AGAIN. THE MOTOR WAS AGAIN REPLACED TWO MORE TIMES. THEY CURRENTLY ARE WORKING, BUT I EXPECT THEM TO FAIL AGAIN SOON.

YOU CAN NOT CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID BECAUSE THERE IS NO DIP STICK YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A PROFESSIONAL TO HAVE THAT DONE. THE AIR CONDITIONER COMES ON OFF WHENEVER, WHEN YOU PUT GAS IN THE CAR YOU HAVE TO GIVE IT GAS BEFORE IT WILL STAY RUNNING. I HAVE HAD BEARINGS REPLACED IN BOTH FRONT WHEELS, TIRES KEEP GOING BAD AS DO THE THE BRAKES. OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE VERY SAME COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE CARS AND NOT ONE RECALL HAS BEEN MADE. I WILL NEVER NEVER BUY A CHEVROLET AGAIN LET ALONE A MALIBU. MY NEXT CAR WILL BE A HONDA. I AM STILL TAKING THE CAR BACK FOR THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THIS WILL BE THE 4TH TIME IN LESS THAN A WEEK. I REACH SPEEDS UP TO 90 MILES AN HOUR. WHEN I CUT THE ENGINE OFF, IT CAUSES LOSS OF POWER, BUT LUCKILY NOT STEERING. TURN ENGINE BACK ON AND ENGINE REDLINES (CLUTCH LET OUT). I POP CLUTCH BACK IN AND CAR BEGINS TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. TURN HAZARDS ON, COP THEN PULLS UP BEHIND ME TELLING ME TO PULL OVER. FEAR AND ANXIETY COMPOUNDED, BUT CAR STILL WILL NOT WORK. I CUT THE ENGINE AND HIGHWAY PATROL GUIDES ME OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. COP IS FORCED TO PUSH MY CAR SINCE IT CANNOT CONTINUE ON ITS OWN. CAR TOWED IN AND DEALER SAID A ROCK WAS WEDGED ON THE THROTTLE RETURN SPRING CAUSING THROTTLE TO BE WIDE OPEN. ROCK WAS REMOVED AND DEALER SAYS CAR IS FUNCTIONING. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS WITH HOW THE ROCK EVER GOT THERE. THAT SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING, EVEN AT 1 IN A MILLION CHANCE. I KNOW MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF MY PASSENGER WERE IN DANGER. THIS IS A TOXIC CAR. IT HAS A MOLD PROBLEM AND IS MAKING ME SICK. THE CAR SMELLS LIKE MOLD. WE PULLED OUT ALL THE SEATS AND CARPET CLEANED EVERYTHING TO TRY TO GET IT OUT. IT STILL SMELLS LIKE MOLD. NOTICED REAREND NOISE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. TURNED VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. BAD PINON SEAL WAS CAUSE OF REAREND TO LEAK FLUID. WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURED NOW 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 14 MONTHS. TWICE THE ENTIRE REAREND HAD TO BE REBUILT WITH NEW GEARS, BEARINGS, AND SEALS. AGAIN ALL 5 CAUSES WERE THE PINON SEAL LEAKING AND CAUSING LOSS OF FLUID IN THE REAREND. REAREND MUST HAVE A MANUFACTUER DEFECT TO CAUSE 5 PINON SEALS TO LEAK IN LESS THAN 14 MONTHS AND ONLY 8,000 MILES.*AK

VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WITH 2,000 MILES ON IT AND STILL UNDER MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY.AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR A FEW DAYS I NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL SHIMMIED BACK AND FORTH. THIS WAS ANNOYING BUT NOT ENOUGH TO CAUSE CONCERN.I WANTED TO WAIT A LITTLE LONGER AND MAKE SURE THERE WERE NO OTHER ISSUES TO BRING TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION BEFORE TAKING IT IN FOR WARRANTY WORK. AT ABOUT 7,OOO MILES THE SHIMMYING BECAME MUCH MORE INTENSE AND VERY DANGEROUS WHEN BRAKING AT 50 TO 60 MPH.THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND COLLISION. I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE ROTORS WERE WARPED DUE TO EXCESSIVE BRAKING AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS AND COMPLAINED AND HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM. ALSO THE DRIVELINE MAKES A "TINK TINK" NOISE WHEN GOING FROM PARK TO "R" OR "D" OR WHENEVER THE LOAD CHANGES ON THE DRIVETRAIN. RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT FENDERS ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE FRAME UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS ASKED TO REATTACH THE RIGHT FENDER. THEY DID ATTACH IT, HOWEVER IT NOW STICKS OUT. UPON RETURNING TO THE DEALERSHIP WE REQUESTED THEY REATTACH THE FENDER SO THAT IT IS NO LONGER STICKING OUT. WE ALSO REQUESTED THAT THEY CHECK THE LEFT FENDER AS WE HAD NOTICED IT TO BE LOOSE AS WELL. THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP HAD CHECKED THE FENDERS AND SAID THAT THEY ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRENTY AND IT APPEARS THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN BOTTOMED OUT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN BOTTOMED OUT AND SHOWED NO SIGNS OF SUCH ON THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. HOW CAN THEY REPAIR THE RIGHT FENDER AND THEY SAY THAT THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE LEFT SIDE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRENTY? I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOME ANSWERS.*AK

I WENT IN AND THE SERVICE MAN (A DIFFERENT ONE) TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD FIX IT, BUT THAT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS WHAT UPSETS ME MOST. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, SO WHY DO I STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE ROTORS TO BE FIXED? VEHICLE EXP[ERIENCING PROBLEM WITH FRONT ROTORS WRAPING DUE TO HIGH HEAT WHILE APPLYING BRAKES. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK

WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OF THIS CAR THE HEADLIGHTS WILL DIM A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT, THE BATTERY GAUGE DROPS FROM NORMAL INTO THE RED (LEFT SIDE), THE WINDOWS WILL RUN SLOW, THE HEAT/AIR WILL ALSO RUN SLOW. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER FOUR (4) TIMES, ONCE TO HAVE THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED, THE OTHER THREE (3) TIMES FOR TESTING. THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS, AND THEY CAN NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THIS WAS ALSO REPORTED AND DOCUMENTED TO CHEVROLET, BUT ACCORDING TO CHEVROLET, THE PROBLEM IS NORMAL. *AK

TACHOMETER IS REPORTING INCORRECTLY. AS A RESULT, ENGINE IS OVERSPEEDING WITH POTENTIAL REPAIR PROBLEMS. TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS HAVE TRIED TO REPAIR WITH NO SUCCESS. BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE TACHOMETER, THE ENGINE UNDERSTATES ACTUAL RPM IN EACH GEAR. I HAVE OVERSPEEDED THE ENGINE NUMEROUS TIMES AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT POTENTIAL DAMAGE BECAUSE OF THIS.

REAR MAKING UNNATURAL NOISE. DEALERS TRIED TO GIVE STATIC THAT IS WAS THE ROTORS AND AFTER THEY PROCEDED TO FIX THEM NOISE REMAINED. NEXT THEY TRIED TO SAY THE NOISE WAS NATURAL. I HAVE FOUND FROM MANY PEOPLE IN FORUMS THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS W/ THE REARS IN THESE CARS, RANGING FROM BEARINGS TO GEARS AND EVEN THE HOUSING. I HAVE ALSO OBTAINED WORK ORDERS FOR PARTS FIXED FOR OTHER PEOPLE. DEALERSHIP IS STILL GIVING ME STATIC ABOUT MY CAR AND SAYS THE PROBLEM IS NORMAL. --NO OTHER CAR IN THE LOT DOES IT THOUGH, NOT EVEN USED VEHICLES W/ HIGH MILEAGE ON THEM. *AK

ONGOING PROBLEM WITH FAULTY ROTORS. ON TWO OCCASIONS (14,000 MILES & 28,000 MILES), DEALER TURNED ALL ROTORS BECAUSE OF PULSATION RECEIVED FROM BRAKE PEDAL WHEN APPLIED BRAKES. CURRENTLY, AT 32,000 MILES, PROBLEM REOCCURRED, AND DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE ROTORS. *AK

WHILE DRIVING UNDER REGULAR CONDITIONS WITH NO ACCESSORIES ON, THE HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR LAMP WILL DIM TO 50% ON ITS OWN FOR AT LEAST 10 SECONDS. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED AND TOLD CONSUMER THAT THIS WAS NORMAL OPERATION. *AK

THE 1999 CAMARO HAS A DANGEROUS SO CALLED "FEATURE" CALLED "SKIP SHIFT" WHICH PREVENTS SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. TWICE I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AND WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR - I WAS STUCK WITHOUT POWER AND CARS WERE COMING AT ME. SEVERAL OTHER TIMES THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD, AND I LOST POWER WITH CARS COMING UP BEHIND ME. CHEVY REFUSED TO DISABLE THIS 2ND GEAR LOCKOUT FOR ME, SAYING THAT IT IS NEEDED TO MEET ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS - OR TO AVOID A GAS GUZZLER TAX. THIS "FEATURE" IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE DISABLED. I WOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT THE CAR IF I KNEW ABOUT IT - UNFORTUNATELY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ON MY TEST DRIVE BECAUSE "SKIP SHIFT" ONLY LOCKS YOU OUT AFTER THE ENGINE HAS BEEN WARMED UP SUFFICIENTLY. THIS LOCKOUT ALSO TENDS TO MAKE THE CAR SHIFT INTO 4TH GEAR - WHICH IS DANGEROUS AT 15 MPH BECAUSE THERE IS LITTLE POWER AT THAT SPEED IN 4TH GEAR. THERE IS A LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WARNING ABOUT SKIP SHIFT, BUT IT IS HIDDEN BY MY HAND ON THE STEERING WHEEL OR BY THE WHEEL ITSELF WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE WARNING LIGHT IS USELESS ANYWAY BECAUSE DRIVER'S EYES ARE ON THE ROAD WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. AS ADMITTED BY CHEVY, THIS WHOLE "SKIP SHIFT" LOCKOUT IS A WAY TO AVOID PAYING A GAS GUZZLER TAX, BUT IT MAKES DRIVING DANGEROUS SINCE SHIFTING INTO 2ND GEAR BECOMES IMPOSSIBLE.

BRAKE ROTORS WERE CUT, THEN REPLACED, PROBLEM REOCCURS. WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES /PULSATES AND MAKES CAR TERRIBLY HARD TO CONTROL.

GAUGES WENT WILD. ALTERNATOR WAS GOING OUT/REPLACED ALTERNATOR. ALSO, 2 FLUID LEAKS FROM REAR SHOCKS OCCURRED 21-JAN-99. DEALER CONTACTED, AND CANNOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. PROBLEMS STILL EXISTS. WARRANTY ONLY 2 MONTHS. PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

I HAVE EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE STOCK SHIFTER CAUSING MIS-SHIFTS. I AM A MEMBER ON A BBS AND THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS ENTRIES REFERING TO THIS PROBLEM. DUE TO THE SHIFTER, IT IS VERY EASY TO MIS-SHIFT INTO A LOWER GEAR WHEN UPSHIFTING. SO FAR HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE AND CAUSES THE REAR TIRES TO LOOSE CONTROL SINCE THE ENGINE CAUSES THEM TO NEARLY STOP. I AM AN EXPERIENCED MANUAL TRANSMISSION DRIVER AND I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. A WORST CASE SENARIO WOULD BE TO LOOSE COMPLETE CONTROL DUE TO THE REAR TIRES LOCKING UP AND ALSO ENGINE DAMAGE DUE TO OVER-REVVING. THERE ISN'T A RECALL FOR THE SHIFTER SO NO DEALER HELP CAN BE FOUND. SO FAR OTHERS HAVE RESOLVED THIS PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE SHIFTER WITH AN AFTERMARKET UNIT AND REPORT NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH MISSED SHIFTS. I HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.

THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING INSTRUMENT PANEL NOT ILLUMINATE, NO START CONDITION, ETC. BEEN TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
