VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. CRACKS CAN OCCUR IN THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK DUE TO AN IMPROPER SPOT WELD ON THE BAFFLE PLATE TO THE TOP PORTION OF THE FUEL TANK.
Consequence: A CRACK IN THE FUEL TANK COULD ALLOW FUEL OR FUMES TO ESCAPE. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE FUEL TANK FOR ANY SIGNS OF CRACKING. IF NO CRACKING OR LEAKING IS FOUND, DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SEALING PROTECTOR PLATE. IF ANY CRACKING OR LEAKAGE IS FOUND, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. IF THE RUBBER BOOTS ON THE LOWER LATERAL ARM BALL JOINTS OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION WERE DAMAGED DURING ASSEMBLY, DIRT AND WATER CAN INTRUDE. ALSO, MMC HAS ADDED THE POTENTIAL OF LEAKING MOISTURE, WHICH CAN CAUSE THE BALL STUD TO CORRODE.
Consequence: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE LOWER LATERAL ARM BALL JOINT TO SEPARATE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH. THIS CAMPAIGN SUPERCEDES MMC'S PREVIOUS SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN, SEE 99V-066.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE LOWER LATERAL ARM BALL JOINT FOR WEAR. BALL JOINTS THAT EXHIBIT WEAR BEYOND THE ESTABLISHED TOLERANCE WILL BE REPLACED WITH NEWLY DESIGNED LATERAL ARM BALL JOINTS. BALL JOINTS THAT ARE WITHIN THE ESTABLISHED TOLERANCE WILL BE CLEANED AND A SPECIAL SEALANT WILL BE APPLIED TO PREVENT INTRUSION OF MOISTURE.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. WHEN THE STOP LAMP SWITCH WAS ASSEMBLED, GREASE WAS INADVERTENTLY APPLIED TO THE CONTACT POINT. THIS CAN CAUSE THE CONTACT POINT TO HEAT UP CAUSING INTERNAL OPERATION ELEMENTS TO MELT ALLOWING THE SWTICH TO BECOME STUCK IN ON OR OFF POSITION.

THE CONTACT WILL PAY TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 155,852 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.

CERTAIN AIRTEX FUEL PUMP MODULE ASSEMBLIES, P/N E7081H, SOLD FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR THE VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. THE WALL OF THE FLARED FITTING OF THE FUEL PUMP IS NOT THICK ENOUGH TO PREVENT THE MATING THREADED FITTINGS FROM BOTTOMING OUT BEFORE AN ADEQUATE SEAL IS ACHIEVED. THIS CONDITION MAY RESULT IN LEAKAGE OF FUEL AT THE CONNECTION OF THE VEHICLE FUEL LINE AND THE FUEL PUMP MODULE ASSEMBLY.
Consequence: IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, A FUEL LEAK COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: AIRTEX WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE FUEL PUMPS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JULY 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT AIRTEX AUTOMOTIVE AT 800-880-3056.

TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE 1995 MITSUBISHI GALANT ABS LIGHT TURNED ON 03/11/07. HE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN THE EVENING HOURS AT THE SPEED OF 50-55 MPH THE ABS LIGHT TURNED ON. HE NOTICED A CHANGE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. HE STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME DIFFICULT TO PRESS. HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ON 3/12/07, AND THEY INFORMED HIM TO CHECK AND SEE IF THE VEHICLE WAS ON RECALL ,AND IF IT WAS, TO CALL THEM BACK. THE CONTACT FOUND NO RECALL FOR THE ABS, BUT DID FIND A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS LIGHT CONTINUED TO STAY ON. HE STATED THAT HE HASN'T DRIVEN THE VEHICLE RECENTLY, BUT DID START IT UP, AND THE LIGHT ABS LIGHT WAS STILL ON. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150000.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND SAW THE TIRE WAS BUCKLED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THE LEFT BALL JOINT HAD PULLED OUT OF THE SOCKET WHICH PULLED THE AXLE APART. THERE WAS A RECALL, NHTSA RECALL, # 99V066002 PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE IN 2001 CONCERNING, THE SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT FOR THE RIGHT SIDE. THIS COMPLAINT WAS REGARDING THE LEFT LOWER BALL JOINT OF THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 09/15/06. *JB
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR THE FRONT END WAS MAKING VERY LOUD NOISES WHICH BECAME WORSE WHEN DRIVING OVER BUMPY ROADS. I HAD ONE TIE ROD REPLACED A FEW YEARS AGO BUT THE NOISE WAS ONLY SLIGHTLY BETTER AND NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING IT. THE NOISE GOT SEVERE AND I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND I HAD TO HAVE THE LEFT AND RIGHT TIE RODS, THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE STABILIZER BARS AND THE DRIVER SIDE UPPER CONTROL ARM REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CAR IN APPROXIMATELY 2000 AT WHICH TIME I BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SUPPOSEDLY INSPECTED IT AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND NO PARTS WERE REPLACED. I AM NOW HAVING THESE PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR THAT ALL SEEM TO BE RELATED TO THE RECALL REGARDING THE FRONT SUSPENSION. THERE IS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKING WHICH NOW NEEDS TO BE FIXED. AND ON RAINY DAYS IT HAS BECOME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE THE FRONT WINDOW DEFOGGER DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK PROPERLY AND THE INSIDE OF THE CAR FOGS UP SEVERELY CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. *NM
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE HWY. WHEN WE REACHED 65 MPH LIKE A LOT OF THESE OTHER PEOPLE ARE SAYING BUT IT WAS MY DISTRIBUTOR THAT WENT OUT. SINCE I HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION IT WOULD START AND DRIVE BUT EVERY TIME IT REACHED 65 MPH OR 3400 RPM THE ENGINE WOULD SPUTTER AND STALL OUT. ALSO I HAVE HAD TO PUT A SECOND ENGINE IN THE VEHICLE DUE TO A TIMING BELT SLIPPING AND BREAKING THE LOWER UNIT OFF THE CAR. THE AIR CONDITIONER PULLEY HAD 5 SCREWS BREAK OFF CAUSING THE A/C TO BLOW OUT, I HAD TO REPLACE IT . THE WINDOW PULLEY SYSTEM CABLE BROKE CAUSING THE MANUAL WINDOW TO NOT ROLL UP OR DOWN ON DRIVERS SIDE. ALSO THE WIRING GOING TO THE HEADLIGHTS ARE MESSED UP, THE LIGHTS WORK BUT YOU HAVE TO RAISE THE HOOD AND MESS WITH THE BACK OF THE HALOGEN TO GET IT TO COME ON. THERE IS AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR ON THE FRAME. MY FUEL GAUGE WHEN FULL ONLY READS 3/4. ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER HAVING THE CAR A SPRING IN THE DRIVERS SEAT BEGAN POKING ME IN THE BACK. I GOT A SEAT FROM A JUNK YARD. I HAVE PAID FOR ALL THE REPAIRS ON THE CAR SO FAR AND AM LOOKING FOR EITHER RETRIBUTION OR SOMEONE TO HELP WITH THESE PROBLEMS FROM RE-OCCURRING. MY INCINT DATE IS WHEN THING BEGAN TO HAPPEN AND TILL THIS DAY I AM FIGHTING BATTLES LIKE THE TACHOMETER BEGINS JUMPING AROUND WHEN RUNNING AT CONSTANT SPEEDS W/O ENGINE REVVING OR ANYTHING. TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER ONLY 65,000 MILES. HAD TO BE TOTALLY REBUILT AT COST OF $3,000. IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS, ALL FOUR MOTOR MOUNTS FAILED. VERY ANGRY AND FRUSTRATED. NO ONE CAN JUSTIFY WHY THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE WITHOUT A SINGLE NOISE ONE DAY AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEN ENGINE MOUNTS WOULD FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. *JB
