Component: STEERING:RACK AND PINION:PINION SHAFT
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 Ford Crown Victoria, 2005-2011 Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles manufactured March 23, 2004, to August 30, 2011, and 2005-2011 Lincoln Town Car vehicles manufactured March 8, 2004, to August 30, 2011, and on which the upper intermediate shaft was serviced during the course of safety recall 13V-385. The prior repairs may not have been correctly performed.
Consequence: Improper servicing of the upper intermediate shaft could cause the shaft to separate, which can then result in a loss of steering control, and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Ford will notify the owners of vehicles whose repair records reflect that the upper intermediate steering shaft was repaired during the course of the prior recall 13V-385. Dealers will inspect and replace the upper immediate shaft if necessary free of charge. The recall began November 17, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 Ford Crown Victoria (including Crown Victoria Police Interceptors), Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car vehicles. The affected vehicles are currently registered or were originally sold in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Severe corrosion can seize the lower intermediate shaft which may cause the upper intermediate shaft to collapse and the steering column lower bearing to separate.
If the lower bearing separates, the vehicle may experience a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
About a month ago I contacted Beechmont Ford (600 Ohio Pike Cincinnati, Ohio 45245) in reference to Manufacturer Recall Number # 13S08 NHTSA Recall Number # 13V385000. I've wrote them three time and they have not responded. A week ago I chatted with Fords Hotline and they said they would do what they could. I've heard nothing back. Where do I go from here?
An SUV crashed into an apple store in Hingham Mass. The driver told police his foot became stuck to the gas pedal. More likely his foot became hooked under the brake pedal as he tried to quickly shift his foot from the gas pedal up and to the left onto the brake pedal. This has happened to me several times after accelerating and then having to make a 'panic' stop. I had to quickly wiggle-foot from under to the top of the brake pedal. Brake pedals should be changed from a T shaped to a 7 shaped configuration. This would eliminate the hook. T configuration-the 'stem' is attached under the center of the brake pedal 7 configuration-the 'stem' is attached under the right edge of the brake pedal
Driver side door jambed locked. Cannot exit the vehicle without sliding across to passenger door.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners and dealers will replace the lower intermediate shaft, free of charge. The upper intermediate shaft and steering column lower bearing will be inspected to identify any damage that may have occurred as a result of lower intermediate shaft corrosion, and repaired or replaced as necessary. If the steering column lower bearing has separated, a retainer clip will be installed. The recall began on October 23, 2013. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13S08.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PLACED IN NEUTRAL TO BE STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. SUNNY KING FORD (1507 S QUINTARD AVE, ANNISTON, AL 36201, (256) 831-5300) WAS CONTACTED TO SCHEDULE A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST, BUT THE CONTACT WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY GETTING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V385000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: CAS-22278603. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 175,000.
ON OCTOBER 21, 2016, WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON I-30 IN DALLAS COUNTY, A FIRE OCCURRED IN THE DAIMAY-SUPPLIED DRIVER-SIDE VISOR LAMP ASSEMBLY OF MY 2009 FORD MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE FORD FUSE SYSTEM FAILED, ALLOWING THE FIRE TO BURN, MELTING PORTIONS OF THE VISOR AND ROOF MATERIAL. THE MELTED MATERIAL FELL ON MY LEFT LEG AND THE DRIVER SEAT AND FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING 2ND AND 3RD DEGREE BURNS TO MY LEG. CHRYSLER NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A SIMILAR DEFECT IN THE DAIMAY ASSEMBLY ON JULY 1, 2014, WHICH RESULTED IN THE FIRST OF TWO CHRYSLER RECALLS ON JULY 10, 2014. FORD, HOWEVER, CHOSE TO NOT RECALL ITS VEHICLES WITH THE DAIMAY VISOR ASSEMBLY SYSTEM, DESPITE RECEIVING NOTICE OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, CLAIMS AND INCIDENTS BEFORE THE SUBJECT INCIDENT. THEREFORE, I RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT THIS DEFECT BE PROMPTLY INVESTIGATED AND THAT THE UNSAFE SYSTEM BE RECALLED SO THAT OTHER CONSUMERS ARE NOT INJURED.

I NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING DOWN FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE AND ON INSPECTION DETERMINED IT TO BE A FUEL TANK SUPPORT STRAP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND WHEN HE PUT THE VEHICLE ON A LIFT ONE OF THE TWO SUPPORT STRAPS HAD CORRODED COMPLETELY IN TWO AND THE OTHER STRAP WAS LY CORRODED NEARLY AS BAD. IF THE SECOND STRAP HAD ALSO BROKEN AND ALLOWED THE FUEL TANK TO DROP AND DRAG ON THE PAVEMENT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A SEVERE FIRE. I HAD MY MECHANIC REPLACE BOTH STRAPS IMMEDIATELY TODAY 11-2-16.

INTERIOR LIGHTING CABLE BURNED OUT. LOST FLOOR LIGHTS, DOOR LIGHTS AND MAP LIGHTS
I AM WRITING TO YOU CONCERNING A LETTER I RECENTLY RECEIVED FROM THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CONCERNING SAFETY RECALL NUMBER 13S08 / NHTSA RECALL 13V385 STEERING COLUMN SHAFT FOR MY 2009 GRAND MARQUIS, VEHICLE ID#XXXXX.. I RECEIVED THE FIRST NOTICE OF THIS RECALL OCTOBER 2013. I CALLED RICH FORD LOCATED AT 8601 LOMAS BLVD NE, ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87112, PHONE NUMBER (505) 292-0000 ON NOVEMBER 1, 2013 TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT ON NOVEMBER 5, 2013, TO HAVE THE WORK DONE. ON NOVEMBER 4TH, I RECEIVED A CALL ASKING IF I DROVE THE CAR IN MICHIGAN. TOLD HER I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AND DID NOT KNOW ITS HISTORY. I WAS ADVISED BY RICH FORD THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO MY CAR BECAUSE WE DID NOT LIVE IN A HIGH CORROSION AREA. AFTER RECEIVING THIS PHONE CALL, I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY BY EMAIL ON NOVEMBER 4TH CONCERNING MY CONVERSATION WITH RICH FORD. I RECEIVED A REPLY TO MY EMAIL FROM TEENA A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER (CRC) WHO INSTRUCTED ME TO CONTACT SERVICE ADVISOR ALISON AT RICH FORD TO ARRANGE FOR MY VEHICLE TO BE INSPECTED. I CONTACTED RICH FORD AND TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR THE REPAIRS. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 2 TO 3 DAYS TO HAVE THE WORK DONE. ABOUT 4 HOURS LATER I RECEIVED A CALL FROM RICH FORD INFORMING ME THAT THE WORK HAD BEEN PERFORMED. A YEAR LATER, I RECEIVED ANOTHER LETTER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY INFORMING ME THAT I NEEDED TO GET THE RECALL WORK PERFORMED. I WENT INTO RICH FORD TO DISCUSS THIS, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE WORK HAD BEEN PERFORMED. LAST MONTH I AGAIN RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY SAYING THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE THE SAFETY RECALL WORK PERFORMED. I WENT TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION AND PERFORMED A SEARCH ON MY VEHICLES VIN AND THE RESULT WAS A RECALL STILL BEING OPEN FOR THIS REPAIR. IS FORD MOTOR COMPANY RESPONSIBLE FOR HAVING THIS RECALL COMPETED OR NOT?

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING, GASOLINE FUEL FUMES EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND THE FUEL WOULD DISSIPATE TO HALF OF A TANK WITHIN TWENTY MINUTES OF DRIVING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL LINE, THE FUEL PUMP, AND THE FUEL SEAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
ON OCTOBER 31, 2013 I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS VEHICLE: REF: NHTSA SAFETY RECALL 13V385. I CONTACTED THE DEALER WHERE WE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE; [XXX] @ MADISON COUNTY FORD IN RICHMOND, KY 40475 ON NOVEMBER 6, 2013 AND TOLD HIM I HAD RECEIVED THE NOTICE. HE TOLD ME THAT THE PARTS HAD NOT ARRIVED YET. ON DECEMBER 1, I CALLED AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS HAD NOT ARRIVED YET, TO CALL BACK ON DECEMBER 15. ON DECEMBER 15, I CALLED AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE PARTS HAD NOT ARRIVED YET. TODAY I CALLED NICK @ MADISON COUNTY FORD AGAIN AND HE SAID THE PARTS HAD NOT ARRIVED YET AND HE HAD NO IDEA WHEN THEY WOULD. HE WAS VERY CURT WITH ME. NEXT SUNDAY, JANUARY 12, I HAVE TO MAKE A LONG DISTANCE TRIP IN THIS VEHICLE AND I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY. I TOLD HIM AND HE SAID WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT. I AM NOT HAPPY. THE TIRES ON MY 2009, MERCURY MARQUIS, ARE DRY ROTTED. I HAVE ALSO NOTED THAT THERE ARE HOLES IN THE SIDEWALLS ON ALL OF THEM ALONG WITH A LARGE BULGE IN THE RIGHT PASSENGER, SIDE TIRE WALL WITH A TEAR AND LARGE HOLE WHERE THE BULGE IS. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LOOK UP ON THE WEB SITE TO SEE IF MY TIRES ARE IN THE RECALL LISTS WITH SOME DIFFICULTY. I SINCERLY HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM AS I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE NOW AND MY HUSBAND HAS SEVERE PARKINSONS DESEASE AND I AM AFRAID SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO HIM. THANK YOU! I HAD CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURES PRIOR TO A ROAD TRIP AND FOUND THEM AT 38 PSI. I RESET THE PRESSURES TO THE SPEC OF 33 PSI. SHORTLY THE TIRE MONITOR CAME ON AND SIGNALED A LOW TIRE PRESSURE. I RECHECKED AND THEY WERE OK. DURING MY TRIP THE LIGHT WOULD KEEP COMING ON AND I TRIED TO RESET THE SYSTEM TO NO AVAIL. ON MY RETURN, THE POWER DOOR LOCKS KEPT MALFUNCTIONING. THE DOOR KEY PAD WOULD WORK SOMETIME FOR BOTH THE DOORS AND TRUNK. THE NEXT TIME THEY MIGHT NOT. THE DOOR SWITCHES ON BOTH PASSENGERS AND DRIVERS SIDE WOULD WORK SOMETIMES. WITH BOTH THE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM AND THE DOOR LOCKS ACTING UP AND CREATING A NUISANCE, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, TWO RIVER FORD IN MOUNT JULIET, TN.. THE FOUND A SHORTED WIRE IN THE HARNESS GOING TO THE DRIVERS SIDE MODULE THAT COORDINATES MOST OF THE SAFETY SYSTEMS ON THE CAR. THERE WAS NO FIRE IN MY CASE, HOWEVER, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN. I DID RECEIVE A BILL FOR $272.30. MY CONCERN IS THAT FORD APPARENTLY DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT I CONSIDER A SAFETY ISSUE WHETHER IT WAS CAUSED BY POOR SYSTEM DESIGN ON THE HARNESS LAYOUT OR ELECTRICAL CURRENT EXCEEDING THE WIRING CAPABILITIES. WAS IT CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT IN THE HARNESS OR WAS IT CURRENT GOING THROUGH THE WIRES AS I TRIED TO RESET THE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM 20-30 TIMES. I AM MORE THEN INTERESTED IN KNOWING HOW MANY SIMILAR FAILURES FORD HAS HAD IN THE GRAND MARQUIS AND THE FORD CROWN VIC. *TR
