VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4-WHEEL DRIVE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS BUILT WITH TOD (TORQUE-ON-DEMAND). IN CERTAIN HIGH SPEED, FRONTAL CRASHES, MOVEMENT OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE THE POTENTIAL FOR FUEL LEAKAGE.
Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW, REINFORCED FUEL HOSE ASSEMBLY. NOTE: THE FUEL LEAKAGE ISSUE IN THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN IS NOT THE SAME AS THE ONE ADDRESSED IN THEIR PREVIOUS CAMPAIGN 00V-253.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4-WHEEL DRIVE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS BUILT WITH TOD (TORQUE-ON-DEMAND). IN CERTAIN HIGH SPEED FRONTAL CRASHES, AN INTERIOR FUEL LINE AND FUEL HOSE CAN BE SEPARATED, ALLOWING FUEL TO LEAK.
Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL FUEL SYSTEM SHIELDS.
PERFORATION WHICH HAS CAUSED BACK BRACKET UNDERNEATH TO DETACH. BOLT IS IN PLACE. ENGINE LIGHT ON WBICH IS CSUSED BY THE ENGINE AN ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM. I HAVE PRINT OUT FROM ORIELLYS WHICH HAS MESSED UP THE TRANSMISSION ONCE AGAIN. PAPERS ON NEW TRANSMISSION PLACED. TRANSMISSION LIGHT ON. SMELL OF GAS IN ENGINE WHICH IS CAUSED BY THE FUEL SYSTEM. NOTE THIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS EPAAN OR I/M TEST. I DO NOT KNOW HOW THAT MAKE AN MODEL ARE STILL BEING SOLD. VERY DANGEROUS. I AM 31 YEARS OLD I DO NOT WANT TO DIE OF DEFECTS. CANNOT DRIVE ON HIGHWAY, ALSO CAN'T GET IT LEVAL BECAUSE IT WILL NOT PASS EXPECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 ISUZU TROOPER. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE OWNER AS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 152,000.
I HAD MY TRUCK SERVICED AND WAS TOLD BY GARAGE THAT MY SIDEWALL ON ALL 4 OF MY TIRES ARE SPLITTING. I TOLD HIM THEY ONLY HAD A LITTLE OVER 20000 MILES ON THEM AND THE TRUCK WAS ALWAYS GARAGED THAT THEY COULD NOT BE SPLITTING. HE SHOWED ME AND THE SIDEWALL IS INDEED SPLITTING. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS HAPPENING WITH THESE TIRES RESULTING IN CRASHES. *JS

I CHECKED MY OIL LEVEL 3 WEEKS AGO AND IT WAS FINE. I CHANGE MY OIL EVERY 3000 MILES. I ADDED A QUART 3 DAYS AGO FOR A LONG TRIP I WAS TAKING. WHILE DRIVING DOWN TO BILLINGS, MT, MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED. IT HAD NOT OVERHEATED OR SHOWN A WARNING SIGN. MY CAR WAS BONE DRY OF OIL! THE ENGINE HAS SEIZED. I DID EVERYTHING RIGHT...THIS IS CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CAR. *TR
AT HIGHWAY SPEED (75MPH) A BOOM NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE JUST AFTER CONTACTING THE WARNING STRIP ON THE HIGHWAY. VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWERVE AND FISHTAIL THEN FLIPPED END OVER END 3-4 TIMES APPROX. ONE - TWO HUNDRED YARDS DOWN THE HIGHWAY. INJURED BUT EXPERIENCED DRIVER WAS SUSPICIOUS OF A POSSIBLE SUSPENSION OR STEERING FAILURE AND CONCERNED THAT AIR-BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
AFTER MAINTAINING OUR 2000 ISUZU TROOPER BY THE BOOK AND BEING FULLY AWARE OF THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM, IT BLEW THE ENGINE AT 103000. I KEPT VERY GOOD DOCUMENTATION OF ALL THE REPAIRS- AND THERE WERE A LOT OF THEM, ISUZU IS NOT BACKING THEIR POWERTRAIN WARRANTY (120,000 MILES)BECAUSE THEY FOUND A WAY TO GET AWAY WITH IT BY SAYING BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE ACTUAL RECEIPTS FOR EVERY OIL CHANGE EVEN THOUGH I DID MANY MYSELF AND DOCUMENTED DATES AND MILEAGE, THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. I'VE DONE SOME RESEARCH WHICH WAS EASY BECAUSE ITS SUCH A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT DIDN'T FIND MUCH ON ANY TROOPER OWNERS SATISFIED OR FAIRLY TREATED BY ISUZU. THE STICKER PRICE WAS $32,000 WHEN I PURCHASED IT IN 2000 I FULLY EXPECTED TO GET MORE THAN 103,000 OUT OF IT. I BOUGHT IT USED IN OCT 2007 WITH 60,000 MI ON IT. THE OIL GETS CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MI BUT I NEED TO ADD A QT OF OIL EVERY 700 MI. AS FAR AS GAS MILEAGE (IT'S THE PITS ) MAYBE 11 MPG AT BEST. I THOUGHT ISUZU WAS A GOOD BUY (GUESS NOT). *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 ISUZU TROOPER. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND LUNGED FORWARD. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE GASKET TRANSMISSION PAN HAD A LEAK AND THE GASKET WAS REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD TWO TRANSMISSION PANS AND THE SECOND GASKET SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE GASKET WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO MONTHS LATER WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE ACCUMULATOR COVER AND MADE THE REPLACEMENT. AS OF DECEMBER 4, 2007, THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER OCCURRENCES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK TO DETERMINE WHEN THE FLUID IS LOW. THE ONLY INDICATOR IS WHEN THE VEHICLE LUNGES FORWARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,558 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,708.
TRANSMISSION FAILED ON THIS VEHICLE 4 TIMES THE FIRST ONE WAS BEFORE THE 50000 MILES AND EVERY YEAR AFTER THAT. IT STALL ON THE FREEWAY AND IS A HAZARD TO DRIVE IF YOU ARE IN A REMOTE AREA. *JB

THE TROOPER OF 2000 HAS THE SAME MAIN PROBLEM THAT THOUSANDS OF OTHER OWNERS HAVE - EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. WHAT BOTHERS ME IS THAT MANUFACTURER ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT CONSUMERS SAY. THERE IS NO ANSWER, NO EXPLANATIONS, NO RECALLS. WELL, HERE IS MY ANSWER - I WILL NEVER BUY ANY ISUZU PRODUCT AGAIN, NEITHER ME, NOR MY FRIENDS OR RELATIVES. THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS ABOUT THIS MAJOR ISUZU TROOPER PROBLEM WHICH IS NOT COMFORTABLE AND SAFE TO THE OWNERS. BUT THE MANUFACTURER COULDN'T CARE LESS. *AK
LIKE MANY OTHERS I HAVE READ ABOUT, MY 2000 ISUZU TROOPER WITH ABOUT 63,000 MILES IS USING OIL EXCESSIVELY. MY MECHANIC HAS FOUND NO LEAKS. DUE TO THE NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ABOUT, WHY HAS ISUZU NOT ISSUED SOME KIND OF RECALL? *TR
VEHICLE USES EXCESSIVE OIL. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 3.6L IN 2000. CHECK THE ISUZU FORUM ONLINE. ON HIGHWAY TRIPS, USES 1 QUART EVERY 200 MILES. ON SHORTER TRIPS IN TOWN, CAN GO 500 TO 700 MILES BEFORE NEEDING A QUART. IT DOESN'T LEAK, AND DOESN'T BURN. THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE OIL NOT DRAINING DOWN AFTER BEING PUSHED ON TOP THE CYLINDERS. IT EVENTUALLY HAS TO BE BURNED, OR SENT THROUGH THE EXHAUST, PARTICULARLY ON LONG TRIPS. ON SHORTER TRIPS, YOU STOP BEFORE TO MUCH IS BURNED OFF OR PUSHED OUT, SO IT DRAINS BACK. THE OIL DRAIN BACK HOLES ARE TO SMALL AND TO FEW. I'M TOLD THERE ARE 4, BUT ON LATER ENGINES THERE ARE 10 PER CYLINDER. ISUZU SHOULD BE MADE TO OWN UP TO THE DESIGN PROBLEM AND FIX THE ENGINES. I BOUGHT MINE AT 22,000 MILES, AND NOW HAVE 100,000, AND IT HAS ALWAYS DONE THIS, BUT GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 15 - 20 MPH THROUGH AT INTERSECTION ANOTHER VEHICLE RAN A STOP SIGN AND HIT THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE RAN INTO A TREE SMASHING THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE AIR BAG LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT WAS WEARING A SEATBELT, HOWEVER INJURIES WERE INCURRED. THE CONTACT HAD BRUISING TO THE FACE AND A SPRAINED HIP. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AT THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE OIL LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER AND THE CONTACT CHECKED THE LEVEL OF OIL. THE OIL LEVEL WAS NOT FULL, AND OIL NEEDED TO BE ADDED. THE OIL LIGHT THEN STAYED OFF. WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED AGAIN, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO KNOCK AND WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHICH DETERMINED THE CRANKSHAFT HAD GONE BAD AND THE RODS AND PISTONS WERE BURNED. AS A RESULT THE ENGINE MUST BE REPLACED. UPDATED 3/17/2006 - *NM
