We rented a Class C RV based on a Ford E-Series chassis from El Monte RV. During our trip, we experienced two dangerous tire tread separations. The first incident occurred on the third day of our trip on the highway. The right rear tire's tread detached while driving at moderate speed (~55–60 mph), causing the tire to explode. The violent separation destroyed the wheel well area and shook the entire vehicle violently. Our RV contained a [XXX] child, and we were forced to stop on the shoulder in a dangerous situation. The second tire separation happened two days later, again involving a rear tire. Fortunately, it was a slower separation and didn’t cause structural damage, but it further endangered our family and disrupted our trip. We believe these tires were not in a safe condition when the vehicle was rented to us. One of the separated tires showed severe dry rot and age. We had to pay for a replacement tire out-of-pocket during the first incident. The RV company has not responded to our compensation request. These issues could have resulted in serious injury or fatality, and we are filing this report so NHTSA can investigate if this vehicle or others of its kind have similar tire issues. The contact owns a 2000 Ford E-150. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 MPH, the driver's side air bag exploded hitting her face and chest. The contact stated that she also observed smoke emanating from behind the air bag and when the vehicle stopped, she disconnected and reconnected the battery. The vehicle was restarted, and she continued to drive. Medical attention was not needed. A police report was not taken. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,600.

THE FUEL TANK DEVELOPED CRACKS AND PIN HOLES AT THE TOP OF THE TANK. RESEARCH ONLINE STATES THAT THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURED WITH OTHER FORD TRUCK AND VANS AND A RECALL WAS ISSUED. THE RECALL, NAMELY 01V114000 COVERS FORD VANS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 04/09/1996- 11/14/2000. MY VEHICLE CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN FROM FOR IS DATED AUGUST 28, 2000 AND THEREFORE PROVES THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED WITHIN THE SPECIFIED DATES. THIS VEHICLE IS USED AS A WORK TRUCK, SO IT OPERATES NEAR THE GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT. DUE TO A LACK OF INSULATORS SEPERATING THE TANK AND STEEL CROSS MEMBERS, THE CONSTANT RUBBING CAUSED THE DETERIATION OF THE FUEL TANK.

MY FUEL TANK INTERIOR FLAKED SO SEVERELY IT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO BUCK VIOLENTLY AND DRAMATICALLY LOOSE POWER. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE ALMOST COMPLETE BLOCKAGE OF THE FUEL TANK PICKUP SCREEN/FILTER. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD TO DISASSEMBLE AND THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE FUEL PICKUP OF THE FLAKES 4 TIMES INCLUDING TODAY. EACH TIME THE PICKUP WAS PACKED WITH SILVER FLAKES FROM THE DETERIORATING LINING OF THE FUEL TANK. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED EACH TIME WHILE TRAILERING MY RV DOWN THE INTERSTATE. IT IS EXTREMELY SCARY AND THE ALMOST COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO GET TO THE NEXT EXIT. I LIMPED THE VAN TO THE DEALETSHIP AND AFTER ALL DIAGNOSIS AND REPLACEMENT OF CERTAIN FUEL PARTS WAS SAID AND DONE IT WAS A CLOGGED FUEL SENDING UNIT DUE TO A RUSTY FUEL TANK CAUSED BY DELAMINATION OF THE LINING INSIDE THE TANK. THESE PARTICALS OF DELAMINATION AND THE RUST OF THE EXPOSED METAL OF THE TANK CAUSED THE SENDING UNIT TO BE CLOGGED TO THE POINT OF REPLACEMENT, THE SENDING UNIT ALONE WAS OVER $600.00 OF THE $1600.00 BILL, IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE PROBLEM OF THE CLOGGED FUEL SENDING UNIT WILL HAPPENING AGAIN IN ABOUT A YEAR DUE TO THE TANK FAILING. I AM VERY CONCERNED WITH LOSING POWER AGAIN AND NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD ON A MAJOR FREEWAY AND SPEWING THE BIG CLOUD SMOKE OUT THE TAIL PIPE WHEN THIS HAPPENS AGAIN AND POSSIBLY BLINDING THE DRIVERS BEHIND ME. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE TANKS ARE MADE OF PLASTIC NOW TO AVOID/FIX THIS PROBLEM. I SPOKE WITH FORD MOTOR CORP., THEY STATED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANY AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER THIS UNVOIDABLE PROBLEM. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE, IT IS A SERVICE VEHICLE FOR MY COMPANY AND WHEN IT IS DOWN I DO NOT MAKE ANY MONEY. AT 140,000 MILES, THE NUMBER SIX SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM THE HEAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED A THIRD TIME. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE NUMBER SIX SPARK PLUG EJECTED AGAIN AND DAMAGED THE HEAD, WHICH RESTS ON TOP OF THE CYLINDER OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR IN NOVEMBER OF 2007, BUT THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL REPLACEMENT PART AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS CONSISTENTLY CALLING THE DEALER TO SEE IF THE PART HAD ARRIVED, BUT WAS INFORMED AGAIN THAT THE PART HAD NOT BEEN MANUFACTURED AND TO CALL BACK LATER. 7.3 LITER DIESEL ENGINE STALLING. FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER REPLACED;FUEL TANK REMOVED AND CLEANED; SILVER PAINT FLAKES WERE FOUND BLOCKING THE FUEL PICKUP. TANK WAS RE-INSTALLED AND PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED WITHIN 100 MILES. VAN WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND TANK WAS REMOVED AGAIN. SILVER PAINT FLAKES WERE FOUND BLOCKING THE FUEL PICKUP LINE AGAIN. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL TANK LINER WAS DE-LAMINATING, AND THE FUEL TANK NEEDED REPLACING. I HAVE THE DEFECTIVE TANK IN MY POSSESSION. REAR LEFT LEAF SPRING CRACKS, CONSIDERED A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD BY FORD SERVICE TECHS. THIS FAILURE WAS ON A 2000 FORD E-150 VAN. IT WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JAN. 2001 AND ONLY HAS 26,000 MILES. I AM A DISABLED DRIVER AND DO NOT DRIVE FAST OR ANY TYPE OF OFF RODE, ALL CITY DRIVING. IN DEC. 2006 I HAD FORD PERFORM A THOROUGH SAFETY INSPECTION PRIOR TO MY 6 YEAR WARRANTY END. THIS INSPECTION INCLUDED THE SUSPENSION AND IT CHECKED OUT FINE. 9 MONTHS AND ONLY 2,000 MILES LATER 3 OF THE STEEL BARS ARE CRACKED ON THE LEFT REAR LEAF SPRING. I WAS UNAWARE OF THE CRACKS UNTIL IT WAS CAUGHT DURING A ROUTINE MAITAINANCE VISIT AT FORD. I HAD NO ACCIDENTS PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE, OR HIT ANY POTHOLES, BUMPS ETC. IN FACT, I HAD THE FORD SERVICE TECH AND TWO INDEPENDANT TECHS TELL ME THAT CRACKED LEAF SPRINGS NOT RESULTING FROM AN ACCIDENT ARE ALMOST UNHEARD OF. ALL THE MECHANICS SAID IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN QUITE A JOLT TO HAVE CRACKED THE LEAF SPRING. I WOULD HAVE REMEMBERED AN EXTREMELY HARD JOLT AS I DRIVE FROM A WHELCHAIR AND WITH HAND CONTROLS, BELIEVE ME, YOU ARE VERY AWARE OF EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BUMPS. THERE IS NO BENT AXLE, TIRE, SHOCK, OR WHEEL RIM DAMAGE, AND EACH MECHANIC WAS LEFT SCRATCHIN THEIR HEAD AS TO HOW THE LEAF SPRING COULD HAVE CRACKED. THE TWO NON FORD MECHANICS SUGGESTED THE POSSIBILITY OF POOR QUALITY STEEL. FORD REPLACED IT, UNFORTUNATELY 7 MONTHS AFTER THE WARRANTY ENDED. I ASKED THE FORD DEALER IF THEY WOULD SEND THE PART BACK TO THE FORD ENGINEERS TO SEE IF IT WAS DEFECTIVE, THEY SAID THEY WOULD BE REQUIRED TO IF IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. SINCE IT IS 7 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY WOULD LOOK INTO SENDDING IT BACK. ANYWAY, ITS FIXED, BUT I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED IF IT WASN'T CAUGHT AND CRACKED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING. ESPECIALLY USING FULL HAND CONTROLS.

I FOLLOWED THE STEPS CONTAINED IN THE RECALL LETTER, AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY FORD DEALER (WORLD FORD IN PEMBROKE PINES, FL) TO HAVE THE REPAIR ACCOMPLISHED. ON THE DATE OF THE APPOINTMENT, I ARRIVED TO BE TOLD, RATHER RUDELY AT THAT, THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO ACCOMPLISH THE REPAIR, AND DID NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WOULD RECEIVE ANY. NO EFFORT WAS MADE TO DISENGAGE THE DEFECTIVE PART TO PROTECT AGAINST FIRE, AND NO PROMISE OF ANY FUTURE WORK ON A DATE SPECIFIC WAS MADE. EXPENSIVE TO "FIX". ALSO, BRAKE FLUID LEAKS AND HAVE HAD TIMES WHEN DRIVING AND BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR WITHOUT WARNING AND DELAYED STOPPING. LUCKILY HAVE NOT HAD ACCIDENTS WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED. HAVE ALSO HAD BRAKE PADS WEAR OUT - NO PRE-WARNING ON THIS MODEL WINDSTAR WHEN BRAKE PADS ARE WEARING OUT. HAD TO HAVE BRAKE PADS REPLACED, AND ROTORS REPLACED - AGAIN AND EXPENSIVE FIX TO A PROBLEM WITHOUT WARNING. ALSO, BRAKES KEEP SQUEALING WHEN BRAKES APPLIED - AM TOLD THIS IS AIR IN THE LINES (HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT LINES FLUSHED BUT PROBLEM STILL KEEPS HAPPENING). ALSO, WHEN STEERING AFTER THE LAST TIME ABS LIGHT PROBLEM "FIXED" THERE IS A GRATING STEERING NOISE WHENEVER WHEEL IS TURNED. WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT - BUT PROBLEM WITH ABS STILL EXISTS AND I CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER $700. BILL TO "FIX" PROBLEM. 2000 WINDSTAR SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS ABS PROBLEM AND IT SHOULD BE FIXED FREE OF CHARGE BY FORD. AFTER BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP, I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE FORWARD. ON INSPECTING THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, I DISCOVERED THAT ALL 8 BOLTS HOLDING THE DUAL WHEELS TO THE AXLE HAD SHEARED OFF. (FORTUNATELY THE WHEELS REMAINED ON THE AXLE.) IN RETROSPECT, I HAD NOTICED A SLIGHT "CLUNK" WHEN MOVING FORWARD FROM A STOP. (THERE WERE ICING CONDITIONS AT THE TIME, AND I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE SOUND OF SUSPENSION COMPONENTS BREAKING FREE OF ICE.) WHILE RIDING WITH THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD EVER SEEN THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT BEFORE, AND HE HAD, ESPECIALLY WITH DUAL-WHEEL-EQUIPPED FORDS. THIS WAS THE SECOND INCIDENT IN 2 YEARS WHERE I HAD BEEN DRIVING A VEHICLE OF THIS TYPE AND LOST A WHEEL. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT, 4 OF THE 8 STUDS SHEARED OFF AND THE LUG NUTS HAD COME OFF THE OTHER 4; THE OUTER OF THE 2 WHEELS CAME OFF. (I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO A STOP WHILE THE INNER WHEEL WAS STILL ON THE VEHICLE.) IN BOTH OF THESE CASES, THE VEHICLE WAS A FORD VAN COMPLETED BY A 3D-PARTY MANUFACTURER, AND IN BOTH CASES IT WAS THE RIGHT-HAND WHEEL THAT FAILED. I HAVE LEARNED FROM SEVERAL SOURCES THAT SOME VEHICLES HAVE BEEN DESIGNED WITH LEFT-HANDED THREADS ON THE LEFT-SIDE WHEELS, TO AVOID A LOOSENING PROBLEM. (NEITHER FORD HAD LEFT-HAND THREADS ON ANY WHEELS.) I HAVE A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION THAT WHEN DRIVING, AS SOON AS THE LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. I HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN I AM LESS THAN A MILE FROM A GAS STATION, AND THE TRUCK HAS TROUBLE MAKING IT TO THE GAS STATION. THERE ARE SEVERAL INSTANCES WHEN MY SUV IS PARKED UP HILL AND IT HAS MORE THAN A QUARTER TANK OF GAS, AND IT HAS A HARD TIME STARTING. I HAVE TO PUT IT ON NEUTRAL, LET IT ROLL BACKWARDS AND PUT IT ON LEVEL SURFACE BEFORE IT CAN START AGAIN. RECENTLY IT HAS STARTED SHUTTING OFF WHEN I DRIVE, WITH A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF FUEL. ALSO THE SERVICE ENGINE HAS COME ON, IT RUNS ROUGH. I HAVE PERFORMED ALL MAINTENANCE SERVICES ON THIS SUV. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, I HAVE COME CLOSE TO GETTING REAR ENDED AND OR GETTING STRANDED. I ALSO OWN A GMC TRUCK, AND WHEN THE LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON, I CAN STILL DRIVE THIS TRUCK FOR MORE THAN 15 MILES. I HAVE PERFORMED ALL MAINTENANCE SERVICES ON THIS VEHICLE, AND IT HAS NOT SHUT OFF ON ME EVER. THIS IS A COMPARISON ONLY. WHEN WE WOULD GET IT STARTED AND THEN ONCE IT WAS TURNED OFF, THE HEAT/AIR WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN. ALSO, THE ODOMETER NUMBERS WOULD BLINK. SHE STATED THAT WHEN SHE TURNED AND LOOKED, SHE SAW SPARKS COMING FROM THE FRONT GRILL, SO SHE WENT INSIDE TO CALL THE POLICE. THE WITNESS STATED THAT AS SHE WAS ON THE PHONE WITH THE POLICE, SHE LOOKED OUT OF THE WINDOW, TO DISCOVER THERE WERE FLAMES TO THE 3RD FLOOR OF THE APARTMENT BUILDING. MY TRUCK HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN HOURS, AND THE LAST TIME THAT IT WAS DRIVEN, IT WAS TO THE STORE ON THE CORNER. OUR INSURANCE ADJUSTER FROM TSC DIRECT INSPECTED MY VEHICLE. HIS REPORT WAS THAT THERE OIL DRIPPING FROM A DEFECTIVE MASTER CYLINDER THAT CAUSED THE WIRING TO HEAT UP. THUS, CAUSING THE FIRE. WE THINK THAT FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD WARRANT A RECALL. HOWEVER, THEY DENY THE CLAIM BECAUSE WE ARE OVER THE 3-YEAR WARRANTY. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY MY VAN LOST ALMOST ALL POWER, DROPPING FROM 65 MILES PER HOUR TO 25 MILES PER HOUR. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY TRY AND MOVE OVER TO THE SLOW LANE. I QUICKLY LOST ALL POWER AND MY STOPPED RUNNING. PART OF MY LEFT REAR WAS SLIGHTLY OUT IN THE TRAFFIC LANE. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO HAVE MY VAN TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT MAINTAINS MY VAN. THE DEALER INFORMED ME MY FUEL TANK HAD "DELAMINATED", THE INSIDE COATING HAD DETERIORATED AND HAD CLOGGED THE ENTIRE FULE SYSTEM AND THAT THE TANK, FILTERS, PUMPS AND ALL LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. I UNDERSTAND MOVING PARTS FAILING, BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A FUEL TANK FAILING EXCEPT THROUGH PUNCTURE OR EXTERIOR DETERIORATION THROUGH RUSTING. REPAIRS WILL COST SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. THE DEALERSHIP MECHANICS SAY THIS HAS OCCURED ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS WITH FORD DIESELS, RANGING IN MILEAGE FROM 30,000 TO 200,000. THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAS SAID THE CAUSE IS FROM USING ADDITIVES OR FROM THE FUEL. I DO NOT USE ADDITIVES AND HAVE USED ONLY PROPER FUEL FROM REPUTABLE COMPANIES. I APPROACHED FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR ASSISTANCE IN COVERING THE COST OF REPAIRS BUT WAS TOLD THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM CAUSED BY EITHER A POORLY ENGINEERED OR INCORRECTLY APPLIED INTERIOR TANK LINING THAT FAILS WITH NO WARNING AND CAUSES EITHER TOTAL OR NEAR TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. IT HAS, OVER A PERIOD OF ABOUT 5 MONTHS, PEELED BACK FAR ENOUGH THAT IT OBSTRUCTS THE VIEW OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE WINDSHIELD DEFROST VENT TRIM NO LONGER FITS INTO PLACE. THE DEFROSTER NO LONGER WORKS PROPERLY, AS THE VINYL NOW OBSTRUCTS THE AIR FLOW. THE VINYL IS ALSO IN SUCH A POSITION AS TO POTENTIALLY IMPEDE THE FUNCTION OF THE PASSENGER-SIDE AIRBAG. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THE DASH, FORD WILL NOT COVER THE FULL COST OF THE REPLACEMENT ($1200). THE DASH ON A 4 YEAR CAR SHOULD NOT WARP SO BADLY IT LOOKS LIKE A PRINGLES CHIP. IT SEEMED TO ORIGINATE UNDER THE DASH APPROXIMATELY HALF WAY ACROSS THE VEHICLE. IT SEEMED TO COME FROM SOMEWHERE BEHIND THE RADIO. I HAD A BAG OF TRASH AND OLD NEWSPAPERS ALONG WITH PAPER BAGS OF BELONGINGS ON THE FLOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, IN THE SEAT AND BEHIND THE PASSENGER SEAT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE PAPER MATERIALS ON THE FRONT FLOOR WERE ON FIRE AND IT SPREAD QUICKLY ACROSS THE SEAT TO THE REAR COMPARTMENT. I SLOWED THE VEHICLE TO JUMP OUT BUT CARS WERE STOPPED IN THE OTHER LANE. PARENTS HAD PICKED UP CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL AND THE LONG LINE OF VEHICLES WERE FILLED WITH CHILDREN. THERE SEEMS TO BE A VERRY LOW STANDARD OF QUALITY IN BOTH THE BRAKES AND THE FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS THERE ARE NO GREASE FITTINGS SUPPLIED FROM FORD ON THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS, THIS IS A MUST IF YOU WANT ANYTHING RELATED TO THE FRONT SUSPENSION TO LAST ESPECIALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS USED FOR FLEET PURPOSSES. SINCE THE EARLY 1960'S , I HAVE BEEN VERY AWARE OF MANY FORD PRODUCTS THAT THE BRAKE/SYOP LIGHTS FAIL TO ACTIVATE WHEN THE VEHICLE S BRAKES ARE APPLIED TO STOP OR SLOW THE VEHICLE. I HAVE DRIVEN FOR A LIVING SINCE THE EARLY 60'S AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS TODAY ON MANY FORD PRODUCTS THE SAME AS IT ALWAYS HAS. I HAVE PERSONALLY STOPPED AND TOLD MANY OF THOSE DRIVERS IN AN ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THEM FROM BEING REAR-ENDED DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEHIND THEM NOT BEING ALERTED TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE SLOWING/STOPPING. AT ONE TIME I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH LOCATET UNDER THE DASH THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO ACTIVATE THE BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUSHED. I DO NOT KNOW IF ANY CORRECTIONS WERE EVER MADE TO THAT PROBLEM BUT AS RECENTLY AS THIS WEEK I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING A FORD THAT DID NOT HAVE WORKING BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN IT STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF THE PROBLEM . THE FIRST PERSON NAMED TOM SAID THAT I HIT A CURB THE PERSON AT THE NEXT DEALER LOCATION SAID HE WOULD REPLACE THE TIRE AND THAT SOMETHING WAS PROBABLY WRONG INSIDE . THE SIDEWALL HAD A LARGE BUBBLE AND APPEAR AND IT GREW FROM THE THREAD TO THE RIM AT THE TIME THER WAS ONLY 9500 MILES ON THE TRUCK . THIS TRUCK IS DRIVEN BY VERY FEW PEOPLE . THIS VEHICLE HAS A "DEAD" SPOT BETWEEN PARK AND REVERSE GIVING ONE THE IMPRESION THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK WHEN IN FACT IT IS BETWEEN PARK AND REVERSE. IT FALLS INTO THIS POSITION RATHER EASILY. WHEN THE SPRING ON THE SHIFTER ITSELF IS RELEASED IT SNAPS MIMIKING THE SOUND OF THE SHIFTER ENGAGING FULLY IN PARK. THE CAR WILL NOW BE IN A NEUTRAL POSTION WHERE AS THE MOTOR CAN BE REVED AS IF ONE WAS IN PARK . NEEDLESS TO SAY THE CAR SLIPED INTO REVERSE AFTER I HAD EXITED THE VEHICLE CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I EXITED ALMOST AT ONCE TO A SMALL TOWN NAMED BELEN, N.M. THIS OCCURRED ALMOST NOON ON A SATURDAY. I CONSIDERED MYSELF LUCKY TO FIND A TIRE STORE OPEN IN SUCH A SMALL TOWN. I'M ALMOST 75 WITH A HEART CONDITION. NO WAY I WAS GOING TO ATTEMPT TO CHANGE THAT TIRE ON A HOT INTERSTATE ALONE. CRAIG TIRE CO. EXPLAINED THE RECALL POLICY. THEY REPLACED THE BLOWN TIRE (IN 2 PIECES) AND PLACED IT IN MY RV MOTOR HOME. I PAID THEM $165.08 AND HAVE THE RECEIPT. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE FOUND A TIRE DEALER ON SATURDAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NEW MEXICO DESERT. I HAVE CALLED FORD, FIRESTONE, THE RV DEALER, THE RV MANUFACTURER, THE LOCAL TV STATION, EVEN THE NEWSPAPER. I UNDERSTAND THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS INJURED OR KILLED. THENCE, NEWS OF NO IMPORTANCE! WRONG! I'M RETIRED. UNEXPECTINGLY I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE TO TRAVEL AT MY LEISURE. THE PRICE OF ALMOST $69,000.00 IS NOT PRIMARILY IMPORTANT. SOMEONE SELLING ME SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE ENDED MY WIFE'S AND MY LIVES IS MY MAJOR CONCERN. HOW MANY OTHER UNEXPECTING BUYERS MAY NOT BE AS FORTUNATE? I USED TO DRIVE A SEMI; I OWNED 12 TRUCKS.
