PURCHASED A 9000 LB. MOTORHOME EQUIPPED WITH NEW "AUTOGUARD" LT 225-75R16 TIRES INSTALLED IN 2016. WHILE DRIVING THE INTERSTATE IN IDAHO,NOTICED A ROUGH RIDE, ATTRIBUTED TO TO THE FACT THAT THEY WERE PAVING THE HIGHWAY REQUIRING FREQUENT STOPS. PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY FOR FUEL AND DISCOVERED AN OUTSIDE DUAL WORN THRU THE STEEL BELTS ON ONE AREA OF THE TIRE. THE TIRE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT TWO ADDITIONAL REAR TIRES WERE WORN IN A SIMILAR MANNER, ONE WORN 360 DEGREES BUT ONLY ON ONE SIDE OF THE TIRE THE OTHER SIDE STILL HAD TREAD {VISIBLE IN THE PHOTOS}THE OTHER THREE TIRES WERE NOT ABNORMALLY WORN - INTACT. THESE TIRES HAD BEEN CHECKED FOR CONDITION THAT MORNINGS DEPARTURE. THESE TIRES WERE THREE YEARS OLD AS VERIFIED BY THE TIRE DEALER REPLACING THEM, HIS DIAGNOSIS WAS TREAD SEPARATION. ALL SIX TIRES WERE REPLACED AS A RESULT OF THIS NEAR DISASTER. THE ESTIMATED MILES DRIVEN ON THESE TIRES IS 2186, THE REPLACEMENT TIRES NOW HAVE 1664 MILES ON THEM AND ARE VISIBLY NEW. OBVIOUSLY, A 50% FAILURE RATE{3 OUT OF 6 TIRES} WITH SO LITTLE USE INDICATES THAT THESE TIRES ARE DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NOT BE SOLD IN THIS COUNTRY. ONLY TIMING AND LUCK PREVENTED A PERHAPS FATAL ACCIDENT IN THIS CASE. I AM COMPELLED TO BRING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION AND EXPECT ACTION ON YOUR PART. OBVIOUSLY, SINCE THE MANUFACTURER, BEIJING CAPITAL TIRE COMPANY., IS HEADQUARTERED IN CHINA I HAVE NO WAY TO OBTAIN COMPENSATION OR REDRESS FOR MY EXPERIENCE, HOW MANY OTHERS ARE GOING TO BE EXPOSED TO AN EVEN WORSE SITUATION? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1992 FORD ECONOLINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A FIRE IGNITED FROM UNDER THE HOOD AS THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 008V051000(VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

I WAS TRAVELING HOME TO CAMDEN, TN FROM WEST FRANKFORT, IL WITH MY CHILDREN ON HWY 69. CRUISE CONTROL WAS ENGAGED. WHEN ENTERING A LOWER SPEED ZONE, I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE, BUT AFTER ATTEMPTING TO SLOW THE VEHICLE, UPON RELEASING THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WOULD INCREASE IN SPEED AGAIN AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN HIGH. I KNEW THERE WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WHEN I WAS GOING UPHILL AND THE VEHICLE WAS INCREASING IN SPEED RELATIVELY QUICKLY. I PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKES, BUT THE BRAKES WERE VERY HARD TO PRESS. I KNEW WE WERE IN TROUBLE AT THIS POINT BECAUSE I HAD JUST REPLACED ALL FOUR BRAKES THE WEEK BEFORE, SO I KNEW THE BRAKES WERE FINE. I SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OFF TO THE SHOULDER IN FRONT OF A BP GAS STATION IN MURRAY, KY. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, WAITED ABOUT ONE MINUTE AND STARTED IT AGAIN, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING HIGH, AS THOUGH THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK. A FRIEND CAME TO HELP ME AND WE MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE RUNNING AGAIN AND I TRAVELED HOME THE NEXT DAY. THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN ON 10/14/2011. I WAS TRAVELING TO WORK WITH A CO-WORKER AND I PUT THE VEHICLE INTO CRUISE (FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE SEPTEMBER INCIDENT). SUDDENLY, UPON TRYING TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN, THE VEHICLE BRAKES BECAME VERY HARD TO PRESS, THE ENGINE RAN HIGH, AND THE SPEED BEGAN TO INCREASE. I IMMEDIATELY KNEW THAT THE SAME THING WAS HAPPENING AS BEFORE, SO I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED FOR A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER (NO GOOD SHOULDERS ON A WINDY COUNTRY ROAD), PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, IT WAS RUNNING HIGH STILL. I TURNED IT OFF, SHOOK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL VIGOROUSLY AND THE VEHICLE RAN LIKE NORMAL. AS HE WAS MOVING THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROADWAY, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE POLICE ARRIVED BUT THEY DID NOT FILE A REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

CALLED DEALER FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING 5-04 TO SEE IF COULD BRING IN FOR RECALLED WIRING HARNESS AND CC SWITCH TO BE REPLACED. WHEN GOT THERE BRAKE AND ABS LIGHT ON DASH ALSO CAME ON. DEALER SUPPOSEDLY HAS REPLACED THE DEFECTED PARTS AND LIGHTS ON DASH WENT OUT. ( MAY 4, 09.) I HAD CONTACTED THE DEALER REPEATEDLY IN THE PAST FEW YEARS ABOUT THIS RECALL AND WAS PUT OFF EACH TIME WITH NO PARTS, TOO BUSY, WHEN ASKED IF THEY COULD SIMPLY DISCONNECT THE UNIT, I WAS TOLD NO. NOT UNTIL I HAD A FIRE DID THEY OFFER TO GET HER IN AND REPLACE THE PARTS. AND THEN THEY SAID THEY MAY NOT REPLACE BOTH, ONLY THE HARNESS, WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT IN THE RECALL. ONLY THE SWITCH. 1992 FORD E150 ECONOLINE VAN THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME THE OLD PARTS SAID THEY HAD TO SEND BACK TO THE COMPANY. PROBLEM: DOOR LATCHES ON THREE OF SIX DOORS ON 1992 FORD ECONLINE CONVERSION VAN FAILED SUDDENLY WITHIN FOUR DAYS OF EACH OTHER PREVENTING DOORS FROM BEING OPENED. SAFETY HAZARD: DOORS NOT OPENING COULD PREVENT EGRESS FROM VEHICLE IN EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. FAILURE CAUSE: DETERIORATION OF PLASTIC RETAINERS AT BOTH END OF DOOR MECHANISM CABLES. FOUR RETAINERS ARE MOLDED TO EACH END OF TWO CABLES INSIDE THE DOOR. FAILURE OF THE RETAINERS PREVENTS DOORS CABLES FROM FUNCTIONING PROPERLY TO OPEN DOORS. IN ALL THREE CASES EACH OF THE FOUR RETAINS IN ALL THREE DOORS FAILED SIMULTANEOUSLY. REPAIRS: FOLLOWING THE FIRST FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT REPLACEMENT RETAINERS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THIS REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE HANDLE A CABLE ASSEMBLY AT AN INSTALLED COST OF @$300. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC INDIVIDUAL CABLES WERE NOT AVAILABLE EXCEPT AS PART OF THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE SECOND REAR DOOR FAILED. BEFORE REPAIRS COULD BE UNDERTAKEN, THE LEFT CARGO DOOR ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE ALSO FAILED.. THE CONSUMER UNDERTOOK REPAIRS BY USING EPOXY PUTTY TO MOLD REPLACEMENTS OF THE FAILED PLASTIC RETAINER. IT APPEARS THAT THIS MAY WORK THOUGH THESE REPAIRS HAVE NOT YET BEEN SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED. IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT THE PLASTIC RETAINERS ON THE REMAINING THREE DOORS WILL FAIL IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME REQUIRING SIMILAR REPAIRS UNLESS THE PLASTIC RETAINERS WERE PART OF A BAD BATCH WHILE THE REMAINING CABLES WERE PART OF A GOOD BATCH. TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS IF ALL SIX DOORS FAIL WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $1800 OR ALMOST HALF OF THE TOTAL CURRENT VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. RECOMMENDATION: FORD SHOULD RECALL ALL VEHICLES FOR WHICH THESE PARTS ARE USED TO INSPECT AND REPLACE, AS NECESSARY, THE CABLES CONTAINING THE PLASTIC RETAINERS. THE CONTACT HAD HIS CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATED IN FALL OF 2007 ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V051000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL), WHICH COULD CAUSE A FIRE. HE THEN HAD THE NEW AND IMPROVED CRUISE CONTROL PART INSTALLED IN THE SUMMER OF 2008. AFTER THE INSTALLATION, HE NOTICED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NO LONGER OPERATIVE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD STAND BY THEIR REPAIR AND HONOR A REPLACEMENT FOR THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER EXPENSES OTHER THAN THE JUMPER HARNESS. I MOVED THE VEHICLE TO A FLATTER AREA, SO I COULD SLEEP IN IT AT THE CAMPGROUND. SHORTLY BEFORE 4 A.M. I AWOKE TO A SMELL AND SAW FLAMES SHOOTING OVER THE WINDSHIELD, COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE FLEXIBLE RUBBER FUEL HOSE BETWEEN THE METAL GAS TANK FILLER NECK WHERE YOU PUT THE GASOLINE IN AND THE NIPPLE ON THE GAS TANK DEVELOPED MULTIPLE CRACKS AND WOULD LEAK GAS WHEN RE-FUELING THE VEHICLE. THE HOSE ITSELF STILL HAS THE OEM NUMBERS ON IT. F2UA-9034-AF. I REPLACED THE HOSE WITH AFTERMARKET 1.5" FUEL FILLER HOSE FROM A NAPA AUTO PARTS FOR LESS THAN $15 AS FORD HAS SUPERSEDED F2UA-9034-AF WITH AN ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF $218. OLD HOSE IS AVAILABLE. *JB

WHILE RUNNING ON FREEWAYS WITH HOT TEMP, MY MOTORHOME WITH 92 FORD E-350 ENGINE STOPS. THIS HAPPENS IN SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE 1ST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE COMPUTER BOX WAS REPLACED IN MONTIPLIER, IDAHO IN 96 BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. I CANNOT RUN THE ENGINE IN A PROLONG PERIOD OF TIME DURING SUMMER BECAUSE IT DIES. I WENT TO LOOKED UNDER THE LEFT REAR SIDE OF THE ENGINE BY THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THERE WERE MELTED WIRE INSULATIONS. I TRIED TO TACKED THEM AWAY FROM THE EXHAUST HEAT BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THE ABS LIGHT STAYS ON BUT THE BRAKING WAS OK. HOW CAN I RESOLVE THESE PROBLEMS?

THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT MILESTONE TIRES, MANUFACTURED IN CHINA, MODEL NUMBER MILESTONE RL828, G104/101S, STANDARD RIM 61/2J, SIZE LT 235/75. THREE OF THE FOUR TIRES BY THIS MANUFACTURER THAT WERE INSTALLED ON MY FORD E150 CONVERSION VAN HAVE HAD BELT FAILURES. THE TIRE THAT FAILED ON JUNE 28 HAD APPROXIMATELY 5,000 MILES ON IT, AND THE TIRE HAD JUST BEEN INFLATED TO FULL PRESSURE DURING AN OIL CHANGE APPROXIMATELY 200 MILES PRIOR TO FAILURE. THE PROBLEM WITH THESE TIRES IS APPARENTLY A BELT SEPARATION. TWO TIRES WERE REPLACED BY MY MECHANIC UPON INSPECTION IN SEPTEMBER OF 2004 AFTER APPROXIMATELY 8,000 MILES, AND PARTIALLY WARRANTEED BY THE DISTRIBUTOR. THE DISTRIBUTOR AT THAT TIME ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEMS WITH THESE TIRES, AND INDICATED THAT THESE PROBLEMS HAD BEEN SOLVED WITH THE REPLACEMENT TIRES. HOWEVER, ONE OF THE REPLACEMENT TIRES BLEW OUT ON JUNE 28, 2005. THE DISTRIBUTOR IS REQUESTING THAT I PROVIDE THE TIRE, WHICH WAS LOST, ALONG WITH THE RIM, WHEN IT DISINTEGRATED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES PER HOUR. TO DATE, MY MECHANIC IS RECEIVING VERY LITTLE COOPERATION FROM THE TIRE DISTRIBUTOR. MY MECHANIC IS HARRY'S SERVICE, 315 689-6448, LOCATED IN JORDAN, NEW YORK. DAMAGES INCLUDED LOSS OF THE TIRE, LOSS OF THE RIM, DESTRUCTION OF THE DRIVER SIDE BRAKE ROTOR, AND FRONT END DAMAGES. LINE THAT CARRIES TRANSMISSION FLUID TO/FROM AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO RADIATOR/TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER WERE PLACED OVER A WIRE BUNDLE WRAPPED WITH A HARD RUBBER WRAP. AFTER 13 YEARS/93K MILES, THIS CONSTANT CONTACT/RUBBING BETWEEN THE WRAPPED WIRE BUNDLE AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LINE RESULTED IN A HOLE WEARING IN THE ATF LINE, AND SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. ONLY BECAUSE THIS FAILURE WAS DETECTED EARLY WAS A CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF ATF FLUID AND FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION AVERTED. WITHOUT EARLY DETECTION, SEVERE LOSS OF ATF FLUID WOULD OCCUR, WITH SUBSEQUENT FAILURE OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THIS FAILURE COULD LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN A HAZARDOUS POSITION, SINCE IT COULD OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING.

I AM A DETECTIVE WITH THE CITY OF BRIDGEPORT, WV. ON 7/16/04 I WITNESSED A 1992 FORD VAN VIN#: [XXX] ON U. S. ROUTE 50 TRAVELING AT 100 MPH AND THE HORN BLOWING. THE VEHICLE LEFT THE ROADWAY AND CRASHED INTO A BUILDING, WHICH MYSELF AND ANOTHER OFFICER ATTEMPTED TO GET THE DRIVER OUT OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH ONCE WITH IN A FEW FEET THE VEHICLE ERUPTED INTO FLAMES. THROUGH THE INVESTIGATION OF THIS INCIDENT IT WAS FOUND THAT THE DRIVER WAS TRAVELING EAST ON U. S. ROUTE 50 FROM THE PARKERSBURG, WV AREA TOWARDS HER RESIDENCE IN SALEM, WV. THE DRIVER SHOULD HAVE EXITED U. S. ROUTE 50 APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES PRIOR TO THE CRASH SITE IN BRIDGEPORT, WV AND DID NOT DO SO BECAUSE THE ACCELERATOR OF THE VEHICLE WAS AT FULL THROTTLE FOR SOME REASON. THE DRIVER WAS WITNESSED AS FAR AS 8 MILES WEST OF THE CRASH SITE BLOWING HER HORN AND FLASHING HER LIGHTS TO WARN DRIVERS OF HER PROBLEM. THERE IS A TOTAL OF 2 WITNESSES WHO GAVE STATEMENTS TO THE DRIVERS ACTIONS WHILE TRAVELING ON U. S. ROUTE 50, PLUS WHAT I WITNESSED AS THE VEHICLE PASSED MY LOCATION ABOUT 1/2 MILE BEFORE THE CRASH SITE. THE BRAKES OF THE VEHICLE WERE EXAMINED BY MYSELF AND TWO MECHANICS AND WERE FOUND TO BE COMPLETELY WORN DOWN AND THERE WAS SOME GOUGE MARKS IN THE ROTORS OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE VEHICLE PASSED MY LOCATION I COULD HEAR THE ENGINE ROARING AT FULL THROTTLE AND WITH THE HORN BLOWING CONSTANTLY THAT THIS WAS MORE THAN JUST A DRUNK OR SPEEDER. THE FAMILY OF THE DRIVER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BRAKES PUT ON A FEW MONTHS AND THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN ONLY A FEW TIMES SINCE. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO DO SO BY APPLYING EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND PRAYING THAT THEY WOULD NOT FAIL. I QUICKLY TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND PUT THE VAN IN PARK. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO SHAMROCK FORD IN DUBLIN, CA. EVEN THOUGH I WAS PAST THE 5 YR. IF THAT BE THE CASE, THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BY FORD DO TO FAULTY METAL AND/OR PAINT PROCESS. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT THAT COVERS THIS "LIFE SAFETY PROBLEN" # 95-9-6 (MAY 95). IN MY SITUATION I WAS ACCELERATING UP A HILL AND AROUND A BEND IN THE ROAD WHEN WE HIT A POT HOLE WHICH CAUSED THE SEVERE SWAYING MOTION, WHICH MADE IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL. THE LENS COVERS FOR THE HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLIES (BOTH SIDES) HAVE DETERIOTED TO THE POINT THAT WE ARE NO LONGER GETING ENOUGH LIGHT AT NIGHT TO DRIVE THE CAR SAFELY. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE MATERIAL THE LENS WAS MADE OFF, AND THE INABILTY TO KEEP THE INSIDE OF THE LENS CLEAN. THE COST TO REPLACE THESE LENS COVERS ARE $75 EACH. IF THIS WAS A TRADITION SEALED BEAM LIGHT, THE COST TO REPLACE WOULD BE $10. THE DETERIATION IS ALSO VERY SUTTLE. YOU DO NOT KNOW THAT THE LUMENS THE LIGHT ARE PROVIDING IS BEING REDUCED BECAUSE OF THE SUTTLE CHANGE IN THE LENS COVER OVERTIME. THE LENS COVER CHANGES SO THAT IT REDUCES THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT THE HALOGEN BULB PROVIDES TO LIGHTING THE ROAD. I NOTICED THIS CHANGE WHEN I WENT FROM DIRVING THE 92 CROWN VICTORIA TO MY NEW DODGE DACODA ON SOME BACK ROADS ON VERY DARK NIGHTS. I BELIEVE THE DESIGN OF THE LENS COVERS NEED TO ADDRESS TO ASSURE THAT THEY WILL NOT DETERIORATE OVER TIME AND CAUSE THIS VISIBITY PROBLEM, FORD SHOULD BE MADE RESPONSIBLE TO INSURE THE PLASTIC FOR THESE LENS ARE AS GOOD AS THE GLASS WAS FOR THE SEALED BEAM LIGHTS. I KNOW THE DOT ALLOWED THE CAR MANUFACTURER THE ABILITY NOT TO USE THE SEALED BEAM TO PROVIDE THE BENEFIT OF THE HALOGEN BULBS BRIGHTNESS, LESS ENERGY USED PER LUMIN, AND TO ALLOW A MORE GAS EFFENTS DESIGNS.
