My 99 ford crown victoria lx has front end issues. I have had to replace the ball joints about 4 times every 2 to 3 months because the front end keeps dropping. I'm not sure if you guys know about this but I've spoken with our local Ford mechanic and a few friends who have crown Victoria's as well and said that it has been a big issue with them along with the electrical components for the turn signals

WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS AS WELL AS THE DASH LIGHTS SHUT OFF. THEY THEN CAME BACK ON AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE AND A HALF. THE LIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY SHUT OFF AND COME BACK ON AT RANDOM. I CAN BE ON THE INTERSTATE OR ON A CITY STREET. I CAN BE GOING FORWARD OR BACKWARDS WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.

THE ORIGINAL PART IS A DEFECTIVE PART-MADE OF THE WRONG MATERIAL.FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS PART, IT CAUSES HAVIC CONSTANTLY NEEDS TO ADD COOLANT. THE THERMOSTAT CANNOT BE CHANGED BECAUSE THE PLASTIC HOUSING IS ONE PIECE WITH THE MANIFOLD.

UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH I BEGAN TO SMELL A SWEET BURNING SCENT THAT I QUICKLY RECOGNIZED AS COOLANT. I PULLED OVER & INSPECTED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE FIRST THING I OBSERVED AFTER REMOVING THE PLASTIC FACIA FROM THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS A CRACK IN THE WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR HOUSING RIGHT IN FRONT ON THE TOP PASSENGER SIDE OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. I WAS LESS THAN A BLOCK FROM MY HOME SO I DROVE HOME AND HAD IT TOWED INTO HARVEY'S AUTO THE NEXT DAY. [XXX] HAS TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS INTAKE MANIFOLD AND AS THE ORIGINAL OWNER I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS RECALL. I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF ANY RECALLS. [XXX] PLACED A TEMPORARY WELD WHICH HAS HELD UP JUST FINE, HOWEVER HE SAID THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES WITH THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF FORDS ORIGINAL DESIGN AND THAT ULTIMATELY THE MANIFOLD WILL FAIL AT THESE WEAK POINTS WITH TIME. I DON'T PUT HEAVY MILES ON MY VEHICLE & ONLY HAVE 41,102 MILES ON IT NOW. ALL SERVICES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED AT 3000 MILE INTERVALS FROM AUTHORIZED MECHANICS. I HAVE ALL RECEIPTS OF MY SERVICE RECORDS AND FEEL THAT THE ONLY REASON I DIDN'T EXPERIENCE A FAILURE EARLIER IS BECAUSE OF MY DILIGENT EFFORTS TO FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE INTERVALS SET FORTH IN THE VEHICLES MAINTENANCE LOG. I FEEL THAT IT WAS AND STILL IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FORD TO SEEK OUT ALL OWNERS UNTIL EACH VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED. MY PARENTS PICKED MY DAUGHTER UP FROM THE SCHOOL BUS AND PROCEEDED DOWN MY DRIVEWAY SLOWLY. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED EVEN AS MY FATHER HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE. THERE WERE VISIBLE SIGNS OF THE FRONT WHEELS DRAGGING UP DEBRIS AS THE FRONT WHEELS WERE LOCKING UP. A LOCAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A STEERING WHEEL DEFECT BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000.

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICL. HE HAD PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR THE INTAKE MANIFOLD BUT THE DEALER DID NOT PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAD THREE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS FOR THIS FAILURE, TWO BY THE DEALER AND ONE THE CONTACT . HE STATED THAT THERE WAS ANTI FREEZE ALL OVER HIS ENGINE. HE STATED HE HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HE HAS TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE DEALER STATED THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 142,000.

A PART SEARCH SHOWS ALL CROWN VICTORIAS FROM 1994-1999 USE THE EXACT SAME PART NUMBER FOR THE BALL JOINTS. THERE IS NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN FLEET, PASSENGER,CNG, OR LIMO'S. THIS DEFECTIVE BALL JOINT WAS APPARENTLY USED ON ALL 1994-1999 CROWN VICTORIAS EITHER SOLELY, OR INTERMITTENTLY, BUT NOT LIMITED TO ONLY FLEET/COMMERCIAL VEHICLES. FORD IS DEVELOPING A RECORD FOR PERFORMING RECALLS AND/OR REPAIRING DEFECTS FOR THEIR "FLEET CUSTOMERS" WHILE IGNORING THE AVERAGE CONSUMER WHO IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER BRINGING THE CAR TO A CERTIFIED ELECTRICAL MECHANIC, HE STATED THAT FORD PUT THE SHORTEST, TIGHTEST WIRE CONNECTING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND AFTER CONSTANT APPLICATIONS THE WIRE SNAPPED. BUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN, THIS TIME A DIFFERENT CONNECTION WAS BAD AND ARCHING, CAUSING THE WIRES TO BURN. HOWEVER, DURING THIS TIME, THE DOME, COURTESY, AND HEADLIGHTS WOULD COME ON/OFF PERIODICALLY AND AT ANY GIVEN TIME, AS IF IT WAS POSSESSED. I FINALLY PULLED THE INTERIOR LIGHTS OUT SO IT WOULD NOT DRAIN THE BATTERY. THE LATEST EXPERIENCE WAS THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD SHUT OFF IN THE OPEN POSITION AND THE BLINKER LIGHTS WOULD GO ON/OFF, SOMETIMES JUST ABOUT ON OR FULLY LIT. I OWN A 1999 FORD CROWN VICTORIA WITH 79,514 MILES ON IT. APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AGO, I STARTED EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING HOT BUT NOT OVERHEATING AND WHAT APPEARED TO BE A COOLANT LEAK. I IMMEDIATELY REPLACED THE RADIATOR HOSE. IT DID NOT HELP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AND ASKED THAT THE COOLANT SYSTEM BE PRESSURE TESTED FOR LEAKS. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE INCREASED TEMPERATURE OF THE ENGINE HAD CAUSED THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING TO CRACK AND IT WAS ALSO DIAGNOSED TO NEED THE INTAKE MANIFOLD REPLACED. I PARKED THE VEHICLE FOR THE NEXT 2 1/2 MONTHS. DUE TO FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS, I COULD NOT AFFORD THE REPAIR WHICH WAS ESTIMATED TO BE $750 -850. NOW THAT I AM ABLE TO MAKE THE REPAIRS, A CALL TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER MADE ME AWARE OF THE FACT THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS DEFECTIVE, HOWEVER SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS PUT IN PRODUCTION IN DECEMBER 1999, I HAD MISSED THE RECALL DEADLINE. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS. IN THAT TIME, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION ON THE RECALL OR THE CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST FORD. MY VEHICLE HAS HAD MAINTENANCE PERFORMED BY LOCAL FORD DEALERS AT WHICH TIME, I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF THE FAULTY PART. I DON'T FEEL AS THOUGH THIS IS FAIR. I WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS FACTORY DEFECT, NOR WARRANTY EXTENSION TO HAVE IT REPLACED. IF I HAD BEEN AWARE, I WOULD HAVE HAD THE PART REPLACED. I BEGAN NOTICING PROBLEMS WITH MY 1999 CROWN VICTORIA IN EARLY 2005. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND IT KEPT USING A LOT OF COOLANT. A FORD TECHNICIAN TOLD ME DURING A RECENT REPAIR THAT IT NEEDED ANOTHER "INTAKE MANIFOLD" AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $800 TO FIX IT AT THE DEALERSHIP. I ASKED HIM IF IT WAS COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND I WAS TOLD NO. THE OTHER NIGHT I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-35 HEADED TOWARDS DALLAS WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE GAUGE STARTED GOING OFF. I SLOWED DOWN AND PULLED OVER AND WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD, THERE WAS COOLANT SPRAYING FROM THE FRONT OF THE INTAKE MANIFOLD (NEAR THE THERMOSTAT). I WAS ABLE TO COOL THE CAR DOWN BY PUTTING WATER IN THE RADIATOR. HOWEVER, I HAD TO DO THIS EVERY COUPLE OF MILES BECAUSE THE WATER KEPT SHOOTING OUT OF THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. I FINALLY GOT TO A WELL LIT AREA AND WAS ABLE TO ISOLATE THE LEAK. THERE IS A GASH IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD APPROXIMATELY 2 INCHES LONG. I JUST CHECKED THE INTERNET FOR SOLUTIONS TO MY PROBLEM AND I FOUND OUT THAT FORD WAS SUED IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLDS. IT TURNS OUT, MY VEHICLE IS ONE OF THE VEHICLES THAT WAS COVERED IN THE CLASS ACTION SUIT. (AND, IT WAS COVERED WHEN FORD TOLD ME IT WASN'T!!!) THE DEALER ONLY REPLACED THE SOLENOID IN AN ATTEMPT TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, BUT OFFERED NO GUARANTEE THE SOLENOID WOULD REMEDY THE PROBLEM. WE BACKED THE VAN UP AWAY FROM THE GAS PUMPS AND EVERYONE GOT OUT FINE. WE HAD TO USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO GET THE FIRE OUT. WE TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THE TECHNICIANS THERE SHOWED US THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WAS MESSED UP. WE HAD THEM ORDER US A NEW PART AND WE REPLACED IT. THE WIRING HARNESS IN THE VAN IS STILL DAMAGED AS WE DID NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPLACE IT. REFERENCE ODI ID 752976 - I HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE AND FAILURE OF THE SAME EQUIPMENT AND PARTS DESCRIBED IN THE REFERENECED COMPLAINT. THESE ARE LATENT DESIGN/MATERIAL/MANUFACTURING DEFECTS. I WAS ORIGINALLY TOLD, UNDER WARRANTY, THAT THE SHUDDER WAS DUE TO THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSORS. THIS APPARENTLY WAS INCORRECT. NOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS JUST OVER 100,000 MI, FORD WILL DO NOTHING TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT. THE DEALER TO THEIR CREDIT IS TRYING TO CORRECT THE SHUDDER PROBLEM BY SERVICING THE TRANSMISSION WITH ADDITIVES. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD CRACKING IS A DESIGN/MATERIAL DEFECT WHICH WAS FINALLY DISCOVERED AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD ALTHOUGH I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT COOLANT ODOR SEVERAL TIMES WHILE IN WARRANTY. FORD SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE WITH ME ON THE COST OF REPAIR, THEY SHOULD HAVE SHOLDERED THE ENTIRE COST. NOW WE HAVE ANOTHER PROBLEM WHICH FORD, ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR IS UNWILLING TO CORRECT. THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE BOOSTER, IT HAS A TENDENCY TO CRACK INTERNALLY AND CAUSE A HARD PEDAL. THIS DEFECT WAS DISCOVERED ON MY WIFE'S MERCURY SABLE AT ABOUT 38,000-MI AND NOW IS BE EXHIBITED ON MY CROWN VICTORIA. CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THIS COMPONENT AT HIGH SPEED COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, LOSS OF CONTROL IN A PANIC STOP BECAUSE THE DRIVER WOULD HAVE TO EXERT AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF OF PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND ACTIVATE THE ABS. I OWN A 1999 FORD CROWN VICTORIA SEDAN. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED, THAT ONE OF THE BOLTS CONNECTING THE UPPER CONTROL ARM TO THE FRAME, WAS MISSING THE NUT TO SECURE IT AND IT HAD BACKED ITSELF OUT OF THE MOUNTING BUSHING. THE BOLT HAD BACKED OUT ABOUT 2.5 INCHES WHEN I DISCOVERED IT. THIS LEFT ONLY ONE BOLT HOLDING THE UPPER CONTROL ARM TO THE CAR'S FRAME. THE CAR HAS ONLY 24,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS RECENTLY PURCHASED USED,AT A LOCAL DEALER. THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, EXCEPT FOR THE BOLT PROBLEM. I SUSPECT THAT THE BOLT CAME LOOSE ON ITS OWN BECAUSE I NOTICED THAT THE FACTORY APPLIED BLUE THREAD LOCK TO THE OTHER UPPER ARM BOLTS, BUT I FOUND NO TRACE OF THE COMPOUND ON THE BOLT THAT BACKED OUT OF THE BUSHING. THE BOLT CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE MOUNTING HOLE OF THE FRAME MOUNT AS WELL AS DAMAGING ITSELF. THE BOLT IS SLIGHTLY BENT AND SEVERAL THREADS ARE WORN OFF.THE RUBBING ACTION OF THE BOLT ELONGATED THE MOUNTING HOLE TOO. THIS MOUNT IS WELDED TO THE FRAME AT THE FACTORY AND I FEAR THAT I WILL BE STUCK WITH A MOUNT THAT IS WORN, EVEN THOUGH I AM GOING TO REPLACE THE WORN BOLT AND MISSING NUT WITH A FORD FACTORY REPLACEMENT PART.I AM COMPLAINING BECAUSE I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS PROBLEM COULD OCCUR TO OTHER VEHICLES.I DID NOT NOTICE ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR TO DISCOVERING THE BOLT FALLING OUT. IF THIS BOLT LET LOOSE WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD BE WRITING THIS TO YOU. THE CAR WAS PARKED WHEN I NOTICED THE MISSING PIECES OF TREAD. UPON CLOSER EXAMINATION OF THE TIRE, I NOTICED THAT THE SOME OF THE TREAD WAS SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE. THIS IS SECOND SUBMISSION ON THIS DANGEROUS COACH. A LARGE 3 FOOT METAL STORAGE COMPARTMENT FELL OFF THE COACH ONTO THE ROAD AFTER ONLY 1 MONTH OF USE. THE COMPARTMENR HAD A VARIETY OF ITEMS IN IT. THANK GOD I WAS TURNING OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN THE SCREWS FAILED AND IT BROKE FROM THE FRAME. I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE IT BEFORE ANYONE WAS KILLED. THE FACTORY PUT IT BACK ON BUT IT WAS NEVER REALLY SAFE. THE SAME COMPARTMENT WAS FALLING OFF A SECOND TIME EARLIER THIS SUMMER WHEN WE DETECTED THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER METAL STORAGE COMPARTMENT IS RELEASING AT THIS TIME. WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL FALL OFF, BUT IT IS NOT SAFE! A LARGE STEEL LEVELING JACK WITH SELF-CONTAINED HYDRAULIC TANK FELL OFF THE COACH AFTER ANOTHER WELD BROKE. THIS LARGE METAL OBJECT FELL ONTO THE ROAD AT A TIME I COULD STOP ON THE PAVEMENT TO PICK IT UP AND GET IT AND US OUT OF HARM'S WAY. WELDS BRAKE. MANY OF THE SCREWS WERE NOT INSTALLED DURING MANUFACTURING PROCESS. OTHER REMAINING SCREWS FAIL CAUSING LARGE OBJECTS TO FALL ONTO THE ROAD FROM THE COACH. WE HAVE HAD MORE THAN 100 PROBLEMS REQUIRING SERVICE IN JUST OVER ONE YEAR OF OWNERSHIP. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 7 MONTHS OF THE FIRST YEAR DUE TO MANUFACTURER DEFECTS! THIS COACH IS NOT SAFE FOR US OR THE PEOPLE TRAVELING BEHIND US. IT SEEMS THAT THE COACH WAS NOT MADE WITH ANY INTEGRITY. THE FIBERGLASS WALLS ARE DELAMINATING FROM THE FRAME. DOORS FALL OFF THE CLOSETS WITH GLASS MIRRORS THAT COULD DISFIGURE ANYONE NEARBY. IT DIES WITHOUT WARNING AND CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IS LOST. THIS IS A 35 FOOT BOMB WITH METAL SHRAPNEL TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THERE HAVE BEEN TOO MANY PROBLEMS AND REPAIR SHOPS TO LIST. THE FACTORY SEEMS TO BE DOING A "COVER-UP." I ALLOWED THEM TO FLY THEIR OWN INSPECTOR TO MEET EVALUATE THE COACH. WE WERE TO RECEIVE A COPY OF HIS REPORT. AFTER HE GAVE IT TO THEIR PRESIDENT, I WAS REFUSED A COPY. THE INNER FENDER PROTECTION IS COMPLETELY INADEQUATE, ALLOWING ROAD SALT TO COMPLETELY COVER THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND WIRING. THE SUSPENSION, MASTER CYCLINDER, FUEL INJECTION, AND OTHER PARTS ARE COATED COMPLETELY. THIS COULD CAUSE DETERIORATIONG AND FAILURE OF THE ENGINE POSSIBLY LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO FORD, ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THIS IS HAPPENING, BUT REFUSING TO FIX THE SITUATION. THEY STATED IF SOMETHING HAPPENS MY COMPLIANT IS ON FILE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. IN THE 5,000 MILES I'VE PUT ON THE CAR I HAVE WASHED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT DOWN 4 TIMES TO PREVENT CORROSION OR FAILURE. YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER WOULD BE APPRECIATED AND COULD PREVENT AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A MECHANICAL FAILURE IN THE FUTURE.

THE FORD CHASSIS MOTORHOME HOTLINE REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. MY ATTORNEY CURRENTLY HAS 4 CASES PENDING AGAINST FORD AND FLEETWOOD MOTORHOMES. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEITHER FORD OR FLEETWOOD WILL ADDRESS. IN MARCH, THE REAR AXLE BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD BANGING NOISE UPON MODERATE ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. IT WAS TAKEN TO CHAPMAN LINCOLN-MERCURY, BALTIMORE PIKE, SPRINGFIELD, PA 19064 (610-544-0100), WHERE THE DIAGNOSIS OF A LOOSE/MISSING PASSENGER SIDE REAR TRAILING ARM WAS MADE. APPARENTLY, A BOLT HAD WORKED LOOSE, AND THAT SIDE OF THE AXLE WAS BASICALLY HELD IN PLACE BY THE SHOCK ABSORBER AND LEAF SPRING. OBVIOUSLY, THIS WOULD ADVERSELY AFFECT THE HIGH SPEED HANDLING OF THE VEHICLE, OR EVEN CAUSE THE AXLE TO BREAK COMPLETELY FREE, WITH POTENTIALLY FATAL IMPLICATIONS.
