QUALIS AUTOMOTIVE IS RECALLING CERTAIN AFTERMARKET BALL JOINTS SOLD FOR USE ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE SOCKET MAY HAVE BEEN EXCESSIVELY HARDENED WHICH COULD CAUSE IT TO CRACK NEAR THE RETAINING RING GROOVE ALLOWING THE BALL STUD TO SEPARATE UNDER IMPACT LOAD. THE SUBJECT BALL JOINTS WERE SOLD AS FOUR PART NUMBERS, D10945, D10946, G10945, AND G10946. THE AFFECTED CONTROL ARMS, D10945 AND D10946, ARE STAMPED WITH THE FOLLOWING DATES ON THE BALL JOINTS: 134308, 135708, 100109, 102709, 104109, 105509, 107609, 108909, 110309, 113209, AND 116609. THE G10945 AND G10946 ARE THE SAME PART AS THE D10945 AND D10946 RESPECTIVELY. THEY ARE LABELED DIFFERENTLY DEPENDING ON THE AFTERMARKET CUSTOMER.
Consequence: SEPARATION OF THE BALL STUD FROM THE SOCKET OF THE BALL JOINT HOUSING WOULD ALLOW THE CONTROL ARM TO COLLAPSE AND THE WHEEL TO FOLD IN CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.

While driving the vehicle I came to a stop to make a left hand turn and as I started without warning the vehicle stalled and lost power of steering wheel and brakes I almost hit another car. BRING IT IN TO CHECK AND ADVISE TO FIX. GOT MUTIL MAILS FROM CUSTOMER CARE STATING THEY HAD CAR UNDER LAST OWNER AND I TOLD THEM I WAS NEW OWNER. NEXT MAIL WAS, CLAIM/S ARE CLOSED. I ASKED WHY NOW 3 TIMES AND NO ANSWER EXCEPT A TAKE SURVEY. NO SERVICE OR REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE ON THIS CAR OTHER THEN TO FIND OUT THERE WAS 3 RECALLS AND NOW CUSTOMER CARE DOESNT WANT TO DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS CAR. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW ONE DAY THERE IS AND THE NEXT DAY CLAIM CLOSED. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS I AM A NEW OWNER. ONE RECALL IS FOR A FIX POWER STEERING HOSE SO CAR WONT CATCH FIRE. CERTAIN TIGAS FUEL PUMP MODULES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JUNE 1 AND SEPTEMBER 24, 2006, SOLD UNDER VARIOUS BRAND NAMES AND P/NOS. THESE FUEL PUMP MODULES ARE SOLD AS AFTERMARKET FOR USE IN CERTAIN DAIMLERCHRYSLER VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. SILICONE MATERIAL USED IN MANUFACTURE OF THE FLAPPER VALVE WAS OUT-OF-SPECIFICATION, LEADING TO EXCESS SWELL OF THE FLAPPER VALVE RESTRICTING THE FLOW OF FUEL TO THE FUEL PUMP MODULE.
Consequence: FUEL RESTRICTION COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER AND/OR ENGINE STALL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

Consequence: DAIMLERCHRYSLER RECALL NO. 843. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE TUBE COULD LEAK, REDUCING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ONE-HALF OF THE DIAGONALLY SPLIT BRAKING SYSTEM, AND RESULTING IN LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE BRAKE TUBES FOR VISIBLE EVIDENCE OF CONTACT WITH THE EXHAUST SYSTEM CLAMP. IF THE TUBE SHOWS EVIDENCE OF CONTACT, IT WILL BE REPLACED. IF NO EVIDENCE OF CONTACT EXISTS, THE TUBE WILL BE FASTENED WITH A CLIP.

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE FLOOR SHIFTER IGNITION-PARK INTERLOCK MAY FAIL AND ALLOW THE SHIFTER TO BE MOVED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION WITH THE KEY REMOVED. AN INOPERATIVE INTERLOCK MAY ALSO ALLOW THE KEY TO BE REMOVED WHEN THE SHIFTER HAS NOT BEEN PLACED IN THE PARK POSITION.
Consequence: EITHER CIRCUMSTANCE MAY RESULT IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AWAY WITHOUT WARNING.

WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE I85 IN SC. THE SUNROOF GLASS DISLODGED AND FLEW OFF OF THE ROOF OF MY VEHICLE. THE GLASS SHATTERED ON THE ROADWAY AND FORTUNATELY NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE STRUCK. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION AND INVESTIGATION IT WAS CLEAR THAT THE GLASS HAD SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME OF THE SUNROOF ASSEMBLY. ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURERS LABEL, IT WAS MANUFACTURED BY VERMEULEN - HOLLANDIA SERIAL NUMBER 399915. APPARENTLY THERE IS AN OPEN VOLUNTARY RECALL ON SUNROOFS MANUFACTURED BY THIS COMPANY FOR SEPARATION ISSUES. THE MODEL NUMBERS REFERENCE IN THIS VOLUNTARY RECALL IS MODEL NUMBER 60000000 AND ABOVE AND APPARENTLY DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 3000000 SERIES. SINCE THE ISSUES ARE THE SAME, I.E. SEPARATION OF GLASS AND FRAME, THERE ARE CLEARLY OTHER SAFETY ISSUES STILL OUT THERE. HOLLANDIA'S VOLUNTARY RECALL IS ALLEGED TO BE FOR NON FACTORY INSTALLED PRODUCTS, HOWEVER, MY 1999 DODGE STRATUS WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALER WITH THIS SUNROOF INSTALLED.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.

MY GIRL FRIEND CAME HOME AND SAID THE CAR WAS SMOKING SO I WENT TO LOOK AT IT AND YES SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE FIREWALL SIDE OF THE MOTOR RIGHT ABOVE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD .I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND A RECALL ON THE HIGH PRESSURE HOSE FOR THE POWER STEERING PUMP SO I CALLED THE NUMBER GIVEN AND CHRYSLER SET ME UP WITH HADDAD DODGE IN BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIA WE SET AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE REPAIRS TO BE DONE , I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THEM AND THEY KEPT IT FOR 4 DAYS I CALLED THEM ABOUT THE CAR AND THEY SAID IT WAS READY I PICKED IT UP LATER THAT AFTERNOON DROVE APPROX 6 MILES HOME IT WAS SMOKING SLIGHTLY BUT NO WHERE NEAR AS BAD AS BEFORE SO I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT , MAYBE JUST RESIDUAL FROM BEFORE THE REPAIR.THE FOLLOWING MORNING I DROVE FROM REAL RD TO FAIR VIEW AVE AND THE CAR WAS SMOKING HEAVILY I STOPPED IN FRONT OF A FRIENDS HOUSE OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS A FIRE BURNING ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE ENGINE LUCKILY THERE WAS A GARDEN HOSE HOOKED UP OUT SIDE THE HOUSE , I GRABBED THAT AND PUT THE FIRE OUT . COULD SMELL FUEL HEAVILY PARKED THE CAR AND HAVE NOT MOVED IT SINCE JUST A WEEK AGO ABOUT A MONTH AFTER ALL THIS HADDAD DODGE LEFT ME A MESSAGE SAYING THAT MY PARTS HAD COME IN AND THEY WOULD LIKE TO SET AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE WORK TO BE DONE . ACCORDING TO THEM THEY HAD ALREADY DONE THE WORK NO BODY TOLD ME THAT THE WORK WAS NOT COMPLETE QUITE THE CON-TRARY I WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED AND READY TO GO THE SERVICE ATTENDANT WAS SO BUSY ON HIS PHONE AND CELL PHONE HE HARDLY SPOKE A WORD TO ME I HAD TO FIND THE CAR IN THERE LOT SO I COULD GO HOME , WHY WOULD ANYBODY IN THERE RIGHT MIND LET SOMEONE DRIVE A CAR THAT COULD CATCH FIRE. *TR

THE FIRST FIX INCLUDED A NEW BATTERY LAST YEAR, THREE ALTERNATORS UNTIL ONE WORKED (DO NOT THINK THIS WAS THE PROBLEM), AND SOME KIND OF A HARNESS WHICH WAS RUBBING ON THE ENGINE?
