TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 NISSAN QUEST. THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO PARK WHEN BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED UNKNOWN INJURIES BY THE AIR BAGS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED WHEN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT HAD NOT PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH A REASON WHY THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY DID NOT STORE RECALL INFORMATION EXCEEDING THE YEAR 2000. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF NOTIFYING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 119,747. NEAR FATAL SCARE WHILE ON THE FREEWAY RECENTLY @ HIGH RATE OF SPEED 65 MPH WHEN THE CAR BEGAN TO SWAY VIOLENTLY LEFT TO RIGHT. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL, BUT MANAGED TO GRIP STEERING WHEEL AND SOFTLY PULL VEHICLE OVER AWAY FROM SPEEDING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE IS NOW GARAGED UNTIL MECHANIC CAN REPLACE UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL SUSPENSION ARMS. I HAVE GOTTEN 2 MECHANICAL ESTIMATES BOTH TOTALING OVER $800.00. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT INCLUDING PERSONAL BODILY INJURY OR EVEN DEATH!!*AK
TL*- IN MAY 2004 THE CONTACT RECEIVED A 1997 NISSAN PATHFINDER AS A GIFT, IT HAD AN ODOMETER READING OF 90000 AT THE TIME. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO WOBBLE WHILE TRAVELING AT 65 TO 70 MPH SOON AFTER IT WAS PURCHASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP, WHERE ALL OF THE STRUTS WERE REPLACED, BUT THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO WOBBLE ANY TIME THERE WAS A SMALL OBSTRUCTION ON THE ROAD. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT TAKING IT TO ANY OTHER DEALERS SINCE THE PROBLEM WAS NOT RESOLVED WITH THE FIRST VISIT. THE CONTACT DROVE LONG DISTANCES FROM TIME TO TIME AND THE WOBBLE ON THE VEHICLE CONTINUED. IN MARCH 2007 THE CONTACT CALLED NISSAN, AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE CAR LOCKS SPONTANEOUSLY AND CONSTANTLY. IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT (SERVICE BULLETIN 98068). WE DID NOT PURCHASE THE CAR WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY FROM THE MANUFACTURER, HOWEVER SINCE THIS IS SUCH A SAFETY CONCERN (MY 2 YEAR OLD NEPHEW WAS LOCKED IN THE CAR IN HIS CAR SEAT OVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND), I FEEL THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED. ANOTHER DEALER IN ORLANDO, UNIVERSAL NISSAN , SAID THAT IT DID NOT APPEAR TO BE FIXED. MY SON RECENTLY GRADUATED TO A BOOSTER SEAT. I PURCHASED COSCO TRAVELER HIGH BACK BOOSTER. MY SON FITS ALL OF THE SPECIFICATIONS FOR THIS BOOSTER SEAT. I INSTALLED IT PROPERLY. MY SON WAS IN THE BOOSTER SEAT. AS I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE FREEWAY MY SON DROPPED HIS BOOK ON THE FLOOR. HE LEANED FORWARD TO PICK IT UP FROM THE FLOOR AND THE ARM OF THE BOOSTER SEAT CAUSED THE SEAT BELT BUTTON ON THE LATCH TO DEPRESS, WHICH THUS UNBUCKLED THE SEAT BELT AND CAUSED MY SON TO FALL OUT OF HIS SEAT WHILE REACHING FOR HIS BOOT. THE SEAT BELT UNBUCKLES EVERY SINGLE TIME MY SON LEANS FORWARD AT ALL DUE TO THE "ARM" OF THE BOOSTER SEAT. IT IS MY OPINION THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE FORCE OF HIS BODY WEIGHT AGAINST THE SEAT BELT WOULD CAUSE THE SEAT BELT TO UNBUCKLE. THUS THE RESTRAINT WOULD NOT BE RESTRAINING HIM. *NM
BOUGHT A 97 NISSAN PATHFINDER IN SEPT. 03...SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS SINCE HAD A MIND OF ITS OWN, TURNING ON AND OFF DEPENDING ON THE CLIMATE OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT IT IS THE EVAP VENT CONTROL VALVE AND O RING WHICH NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD TAKEN THE CAR INTO 3 DEALERSHIPS ON THE EAST COAST WHERE I WAS TOLD NUMEROUS OTHER ISSUES WERE CAUSING THE LIGHT. I HAVE PUT $4500 WORTH OF WORK INTO THE VEHICLE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS A $122 PART THAT SUPPOSEDLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OTHER NISSAN OWNERS (MANY WITH OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES-NOT PATHFINDERS) AND THEY TOO HAVE HAD THIS SAME EXPERIENCE WITH THEIR VEHICLE. THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE THROUGH ANYBODY EXCEPT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIPS WHICH MEANS THERE IS NO WAY TO GET A COMPETATIVE PRICE. IN ORDER TO GET THE LIGHT TO SHUT OFF ONCE MY MECHANIC HAS REPLACED THE PARTS I WILL THEN BE FORCED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO PAY THEM TO SHUT IT OFF. I WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT EFFECT THE DRIVABILITY OF THE VEHICLE THAT IT WAS AN EMISSIONS SITUATION. ULTIMATELY, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS EMISSIONS INSPECTIONS NOR WILL IT GET DECENT GAS MILEAGE UNTIL THIS PART IS REPLACED.

THEN THEY CALLED NISSAN AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE LONG AND SHORT ROCKER ARMS FOR MY REAR SUSPENSION AND THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING MY 1997 NISSIAN SENTRA TO WORK IN THE MORNING AND WAS APPOARCHING THE GUARD GATE. PUSHED THE SWITCH TO ROLLED DOWN THE PASSENGER AND DRIVE SIDE AUTOMATIC WINDOWS. SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY. PULL OVER ON THE SIDE THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. RAN UP TO THE GUARD GATE AND OBTAINED A FIRE EXTERISHER. TURNED TO THE CAR AND SAW A TWO TO FOUR INCH FLAME COMING OUT OF THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY. I PUT OUT THE FIRE. CHECKED THE FUSE BLOCK FOR A BLOWN FUSE AND THERE WAS NONE. THE FUSE DID NOT BLOW FOR THE AUTOMATIC WINDOW CIRCUIT. PULLED SWITCH ASSEMBLY AND DISCONNECTED THE WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR. PLANNING ON REPLACING THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY AND SIDE PANEL.
I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THIS VAN. VARIOUS LIGHTS WILL COME ON WHEN I TURN ON THE OPERATING LIGHTS AT NIGHT, BUT SOME WILL RANDOMLY NOT WORK. FOR EXAMPLE, THE LIGHTS ON THE HEATER WILL SOMETIMES COME ON IF I PUSH BUTTONS UP AND DOWN THE PANEL, OR TURN THE FAN OFF AND ON. SOMETIMES I CAN GET THE LIGHTS ON THE AM/FM CASSETTE TO COME ON IF I PUSH VARIOUS BUTTONS FOR THE RADIO STATIONS. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD HAVE GONE OUT COMPLETELY BY DEGREES. I CURRENTLY HAVE A DARK DASHBOARD. THESE PROBLEMS STARTED HAPPENING THE DAY I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE USED, AND I TOOK IT BACK TO SOMERSWORTH NISSAN (IN SOMERSWORTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE) WHERE I BOUGHT IT. BUT FIRST THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT GET THE PROBLEM TO HAPPEN, SO I TOOK IT BACK EXACTLY WHEN IT WAS HAPPENING ONCE, AND THAT TIME THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEMS, THAT IT MUST BE ELECTRICAL AND WOULD COST ME A LOT OF MONEY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG AND FIX IT. THIS DEALERSHIP ALSO FORCED ME TO PURCHASING A ONE YEAR WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE, AND WHEN I TRIED TO CANCEL THE WARRANTY WITHIN THE TIME THE CONTRACT ALLOWED, THEY REFUSED TO ALLOW ME TO CANCEL IT, AND SAID, SO SUE US!. THEY KNEW I WAS A SINGLE MOM, WHO WAS TRYING TO FIND A CAR THAT WOULD ACCOMMODATE MY SIX CHILDREN, AND THEY KNEW I COULD NOT AFFORD TO TAKE THEM TO COURT. SINCE PURCHASING THIS CAR THREE YEARS AGO FROM SOMERSWORTH NISSAN IN SOMERSWORTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE, I HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF MANY ILLEGAL AND DIRTY BUSINESS DEALINGS WITH OTHERS.*AK

I JUST WANTED TO STATE THAT I HAVE IDENTIFIED WITH MOST OF THE FAILURE PROBLEMS THAT ARE LISTED ON THE COMPLAINT PAGE. THE RIGHT REAR SEAT BELT HAS FAILED, IT WILL NOT PULLOUT OR RETRACT, AND NO ONE CAUSE THIS PROBLEM, IT IS A MALFUNCTION OF THE SAET BELT. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT FUEL ODOR IN THE VAN FROM TIME TO TIME, NO PARTICULAR TIME NOTED. THE SLIDING DOOR DOES NOT LOCK AND UNLOCK PROPERLY, AND IT WILL LOCK BY ITSELF AND STICK, ALSO IT WILL NOT STAY IN THE OPEN POSITION CONSISTANTLY.MY BRAKE PADS ARE GOING OUT, IT MAY JUST BE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, BUT THEY SEEMED TO GO OUT ALL OF A SUDDEN. IN GENERAL IT MAKES ALL KINDS OF WHISTLING, GRINDING AND BUMPING NOISES WHEN DRIVING.*AK
HAVE A SET OF REGATTA II, 215SR75. @25,000 - 30,000 MILES ON TIRES. EXPERIENCED SHIMMYING AT LOW SPEEDS AND VIBRATION AT HIGH SPEEDS. CHECK INFLATION FREQUENTLY AND PUT AIR IN WHEN NECESSARY. HAD A PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE BLOW OUT RECENTLY. APPEARED AS IF SIDE WALLS HAD BURST. NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT IN ALL MY LIFE. (SIDE NOTE: HAD RECENTLY HAD BRAKE PADS REPLACED, THE TIRE IN QUESTION WAS ON THE FRONT, MECHANIC DISCOVERED TIRE TO BE SERIOUSLY OUT OF BALANCE AND HAD DIFFICULT TIME TRYING TO BALANCE IT, WHICH IS WHY HE PUT IT ON THE REAR) AFTER TIRE BLEW OUT THE TIRE DEALER SAID SIDE WALLS WERE PROBABLY WEAKENED BY UNDERINFLATION MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY A SLOW LEAK. THIS EXPLANATION IS INADEQUATE. HE REPLACED THE TIRE AT FULL PRICE MINUS $11.00 AND SAID IT WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE AS THE WARRANTY ONLY COVERED TREAD WEAR. AFTER REPLACING THE TIRE THE VEHICLE (NISSAN QUEST MINIVAN) STILL SHIMMIES AT LOW SPEED AND VIBRATES AT HIGH SPEED. MY CONCERNS ARE: 1. ARE THE THREE REMAINING ORIGINAL REGATTA II TIRES IN IMMENENT DANGER OF EXPLODING LIKE THE OTHER ONE? 2.CONSIDERING THE DIFFICULTY BALANCING THE ONE TIRE THAT BLEW, WAS THAT TIRE DEFECTIVE? 3. COULD THE SAME PROBLEM BE OCCURING IN MY OTHER 3 TIRES CREATING A SERIOUS, DANGEROUS SITATION? *AK

I PURCHASED A 1997 NISSAN QUEST FROM BELL HONDA AUGUST 30,2003 AT 9:30 PM. BY 1:30 PM THE NEXT DAY (16 HOURS LATER) THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE BACK SUSPENSION SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS 100 YEARS OLD. THE WINDSHIELD WASHERS DID NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND IT WAS MONSOON SEASON. THE SWITCH FOR POWER WINDOWS WAS NOT WORKING, I HAD A BRAKE LIGHT OUT, NO SUN VISOR, AND NO DASH LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE MY GAUGE CLUSTER AT NIGHT. ALL WITHIN 16 HOURS AND 15.5 OF THOSE HOURS IT WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY NOT EVEN BEING USED. I DROVE IT 5 MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND THEN 8 MINUTES TO THE CHURCH THE FOLLOWING MORNING, AND THEN 15 MINUTES BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPORT THE PROBLEMS. I ASKED FOR MY TRADE IN BACK AND THEY REFUSED. THEY PLACED MY QUEST IN THE SHOP AND LEFT IT THERE FOR 10 DAYS. OF WHICH 2 OF THOSE DAYS THEY DID NOT EVEN GIVE ME A LOANER CAR KNOWING THAT THE QUEST WAS MY ONLY VEHICLE FOR ME AND MY HUSBAND TO GO TO AND FROM WORK AND TAKE MY DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY 20 MILES AWAY. THEY CONTACTED ME AND LET ME KNOW THE CAR WAS READY AND HAD NO PROBLEMS AND WITHIN 5 SECONDS OF TURNING ON THE CAR AND DRIVING JUST A FEW FEET I KNEW THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN FIXED IT WAS MALFUNCTIONING THE SAME WAY. I ASKED THEM TO REFIX AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I THEN DEMANDED TO SEE THE OWNER AND ASKED YET AGAIN FOR MY TRADE IN BACK THIS WAS NOW THE THIRD TIME ASKING FOR IT OR MY MONEY. I MET THE OWNER SOME DAYS LATER. HE TOLD ME I COULD KEEP THE QUEST OR HE WOULD PUT ME IN A NEW CAR. HE NEVER GAVE ME A CHOICE JUST THREW ANOTHER VEHICLE AT ME AND EVEN CHARGED ME MORE MONEY TO DO IT. I TOOK THE VAN BACK AND THE DRIVERS MAIN LOCK AND UNLOCK SWITCH WAS REPLACED AND STILL TO THIS DAY THE VEHICLE HAS "POSSESSED" LOCKING SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CAN ONLY NOW TRY TO OPEN THE DOOR PANEL AND GREASE THE CONTACTS WITH A WATERPROOF GREASE AS THEY BELIEVE MOISTURE MAY BE SHORTING OUT THE SYSTEM, BUT THEY CAN GIVE ME NO PROMISE THAT THIS WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE SPENT A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY ON THIS PROBLEM AND I AM ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED OF LOCKING MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR.
