My vehicle kept going into "limp mode" so I took it to the shop and they basically said $9,000 to replace. It's a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport which I purchased from Carvana just over a year ago. After reading up on my vehicle, I found there were recalls on the CVT transmission the previous years because of the same exact issues. It's very unsafe because on more than one occasion, I pulled out of a parking lot and, drove for about a half a mile and then suddenly, my car loses power and starts to slow down in traffic. Now the expense to replace is just about what I owe on the vehicle. When I look online, there's many customers who have gone though the same thing. Now I have a car payment for the next 4 years on a car that I cannot safely drive. The issues from the previous years have not been resolved with the 2017 model year. I will continue to pay on it and leave it parked until there's a recall.

The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system failed. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The failure caused the vehicle to lose acceleration, delay response to the gas pedal, and jerk while driving. These issues made it unsafe to drive, as the car could not maintain a consistent speed, risking accidents, especially in traffic or during merging. Yes, the issue was confirmed by the dealer, Jim Shorkey Mitsubishi North Huntingdon, after inspection. They verified the problem and provided diagnostic codes indicating internal transmission failure (P0776, P0868, P0446). 01-16-25 The vehicle was inspected by the dealership’s service department. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. Yes, warning lamps or messages were displayed prior to the failure about 7-14 days prior. The symptoms, including delayed acceleration, jerking motions, and loss of power, appeared suddenly on [XXX]. The electric parking break was stuck and alarm going off. Only used ebrake maybe 5 times in the years I have had my car. This time was I used it while parked on a hill. The ebrake would not disengage properly. Dealer says need a new one, even though the electric parking brake now engages and releases ok, just the alarm won't go off. Then I learned that there was a recall for the 2016 Outlanders for the parking brake not engaging/disengaging properly. Why is there not a recall for the 2017 Outlanders with this problem?

I would that it's too early for my vehicle with 64900 miles already has an oil pan gasket that causes a leak to my vehicle every time I do oil change on time and also that I have a cooler hose of the transmission leaked and for the transmission to be in service every 60000 miles. So I filed a complaint against the manufacturer who is the cause for this model for the same year to have the same problem for having any leaks too early. So I need your help that the manufacturer should recall the same model from this year based on the mileage of the vehicle.

Failure of driver side exterior mirror. 3 years after purchase of vehicle the mirror would no longer move in and out. Dealer replaced with OEM quality mirror July 2021. 2 years later (August 2023)mirror now has the exact same malfunction/defect. Mitsubishi is unable to tell me why the failure happened in the first place or why it has again happened. Mitsubishi refuses to take any action to fully rectify this issue. They only suggest again replacing the mirror. As the mirror is part of a side vehicle warning system the malfunction creates the possibility of a side collision with another vehicle. This 2017 outlander has had issues with the tire rod multiple times. It needed to be fixed approx every three months and the tires needed constant changing as well. This vehicle had a timing chain issue which left me stranded in the middle of the high way. the power stopped, the car started to jerk back and forth and it would power off. We had to get this car towed to three seperate mechanics as no one would work on a mitsubishi and I was told it was the timing chain with possible engine damage. Prio to all of this happening the radio and electrical system would freeze or automatically turn off and on, it never resolved and blue tooth was rarely able to be used.

I’ve changed the battery at least once or twice within the first 2 years of purchasing the vehicle from the dealer with zero miles on it. Lately (in the past 2 months) I’ve changed the battery at least four times or more. Some expensive batteries as well. In the past 2 months, it’s been giving me problems including stalling on me, slowing down on the highway, sometimes won’t start at all, sometimes it’ll say electrical system service required. Once it said four-wheel drive system service required on the highway as it slew down and I had to pull aside. I’ve noticed some recalls on the vehicle via internet research. It may not be specific to my vehicle, but it does seem very familiar problems with my vehicle. Such as Electrical system: Starter assembly: Relay, Electronic stability control, Electrical system: Software and even with the transmission. I’ve towed the vehicle to the Mitsubishi dealer in Totowa, NJ today. I was informed that my specific vehicle doesn’t any recalls. Service advisor did say there are other similar vehicles did have those recalls but mine didn’t come up on the recall.

My 17-year old son was stopped at a stop sign. He waited until any oncoming cars had passed before he started to move out of the stop. He turned right out of the stop and onto the cross street. After only a few feet, my son notice the front of the vehicle was angled toward the curb & he tried to pull the wheel out of the angle and stepped on the brakes. The steering wheel would not turn AT ALL & the brakes didn't do anything. My son stepped on the brake pedal two more times and the vehicle DID NOT slow down or respond to this. The car went into the front steps of our local Police Station. Because he had about 40 feet from stop sign to impact, we estimate he had about 2 seconds to respond to this situation & could not have exceeded 10-15mph in that time. Upon impact, the air bag did not deploy. There was minimal property damage to the building, but the car was totaled. The entire front end was pushed in. My son was able to exit the vehicle and luckily did not have any sever injuries. We are writing this complaint because of existing safety recalls to the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport for all the years surrounding our 2017 model. These complaints all note engine stalling after complete stops. The engine stalls lead to unresponsive steering wheels, brakes that don't work, and airbags that don't deploy. We want this situation investigated as well.

SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROLJune 18, 2022
1. Speed control: Our family outlander has had some issues following our purchase, and I was assured that the hesitation when depressing the accelerator was just a product of the CVT transmission. It’s something we have just learned to deal with given the information we were provided with. It has put us in a bad position with countless near misses over the years when needing to merge, and the annoying stall that happens when accelerating after a stop sign or red light. We have just moved from the Midwest to Phoenix(car only has 30k miles), and the hesitation and stalling is worse than ever. Even with a 3/4 depress on the accelerator, the notion of movement correlating with the amount of gas given is an eon apart. I must also mention that there are times that the car releases like a race car as well, but with minimal pressure on the accelerator. It seems like it’s an obvious programming issue or maybe just a few bad relays. I’m hoping there is a light at the end of the tunnel for this one. 2. Suspension: Our vehicle has sounded like it has had major issues since the beginning, but was told it was normal. The car has always made a loud clunk when reversing after a first of the day start. It is then followed up after warming up with a clunk in the front seats center below us, and while turning in either direction. Hitting any minor bump on a highway while on any mild curve also causes the vehicle to jump a few feet over by itself. It’s frightening judging just how the car will grip after it’s roll. The only remedy is to decelerate under the speed limit during any curve to avoid the situation all together. I’m not sure I’d ever purchase a Mitsubishi again, as I’m only scratching the surface with mechanical defects. I would be happy to finally get some answers on how this was left in the dark so long. It’s comforting knowing friends and family dealing with the same problems. Thanks you, and warm regards! I am the owner of a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander. On February 14, 2022 at 1:00 PM, my wife and I were driving home along the 405 freeway northbound from our son’s house. All of a sudden, we heard a loud bang and shattered glass entered the vehicle from overhead. The majority of the sunroof glass spontaneously flew off with only remnants of shattered glass entering the vehicle. Upon later inspection, I noticed that the glass was very fragile (easily breaks). There were no warning messages and no prior indication of problems with the glass sunroof. The glass sunroof randomly broke without incident (i.e., no contact with any other vehicles). The experience was tremendously jarring and unsettling because it was completely unexpected and could have caused me to lose control of the vehicle. Fortunately, I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and avoided any accident. We were a few car lengths away from any vehicles, both to the front of us and from behind and there were no foreign objects inside the vehicle that would indicate foul play. Since we are both retired, the SUV is kept in the garage most of the time. It only has 31,500 miles on it. We are reporting this incident to let you know that it could happen again to other vehicles of the same model or manufacturer that could result in serious injuries. I hope you’ll look into this incident as soon as possible. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please look at the quality of the glass and its proper installation. I went to the Cerritos Mitsubishi dealership on the day of the incident (February 14, 2022) to show them the damage.

Each door latch on our car has had to be replaced, all at separate times since we bought the car in 2017. The door latches will not lock/unlock with the fob or driver panel. It causes a safety issue with the door. It could come open (from failure to latch) while driving and people can fall out. It does not lock/unlock when you lock the car from the driver panel or fob and people can just open your door and enter it. Which has happened to us. The only way to lock/unlock it is from the inside from that door, since the fob, driver panel do not work, but then you have to scoot across the seat and come out the other side of the car to get out of the car, and then you still can’t unlock it unless you scoot back over and unlock that door since there is only 1 door with a key entrance, the driver door. It’s not been a recall on this specific year (2017) but it has been for 2016. We are now replacing our 4th latch because of this issue, hopefully the hatch does not do this as well. Many others with the same year car have had the same problem, I’ve seen many complaints online, and still no recall has been made about the door latches for 2017. It’s a HUGE safety issue not being able to lock and unlock your car door, or the door possibly failing to latch and someone falling out of the car door.

I'VE HAD MY ROUTINE MAINTENANCE DONE ON THIS VEHICLE SINCE I FINANCED IT BACK IN JUNE OF 2019 WHICH WAS AT 47K MILES. THERE WAS NO ISSUES, I HAD MY LAST MAINTENANCE DONE IN OCTOBER AT 70K MILES. MY TRANSMISSION SHOWED NO SIGNS OF GOING OUT , THERE'S NO LEAKAGE OF ANY SORT. IT JUST DECIDED SATURDAY, JANUARY 2 OF 2021 THAT IT WAS JUST GOING TO GO OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP JANUARY 5TH, AND HE TOLD ME IT'LL BE $7035.09 TO REPLACE. I FEEL AS THOUGH THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS TRANSMISSION JUST LIKE THE RECALLS FOR THE 2016 MODELS. THE DASH JUST NOW SAYS TRANSMISSION SERVICE REQUIRED. IT WAS SO SUDDEN! I WAS AT 35MPH AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SHUDDER UPON ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING SATURDAY. SO, I HAD TO DRIVE AT LEAST 10MILES BACK HOME AT 20MPH, BECAUSE I WASN'T SURE OF WHAT THE ISSUE WAS AT THAT MOMENT. I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND HE SAYS THAT THERE WASN'T A DROP OF FLUID IN THERE. WHEN I GO GET MAINTENANCE DONE I AM TRUSTING THEM TO MAKE SURE I HAVE EVERYTHING CHECKED IN ORDER FOR ME TO FELL TRUST AND BE SAFE WHILE DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT I FINANCED FROM THEM. I COULD'VE HAD A ACCIDENT OR ANYTHING. THEY'VE ONLY CHECKED WHAT THEY WERE PAID TO DO AND THAT WAS THE OIL CHANGE WITHOUT EVER CHECKING MY TRANSMISSION FLUID. THERES NO HOLES NOR ANY LEAKAGE THE CODE RAN AND SAYS P084A TRANSMISSION HAS INTERNAL DAMAGE. I'VE REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TWICE AND THE TAKES A WHILE TO DEFROST THE WIPER BLADES MOVE SLOWLY WHEN TURNED TO THE MAX WHEN THERES A STORM.

I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ADDED TO THE ENGINE STALL RECALL EVEN WITH THESE PROBLEMS REPLICATING WHAT MITSUBISHI IDENTIFIES IN THERE PAST RECALLS. DRIVER SEAT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH (BRAKING AND ACCELERATING) I'M AFRAID SEAT MAY BECOME SO LOSE THAT IT CAN BREAK BACK CAUSING A SAFETY ISSUE. DEALERSHIP SAID MITSUBISHI IS AWARE BUT THEY HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO FIX THE ISSUE. I AM 2000 MILES AWAY FROM MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY TO EXPIRE. I FEEL I WAS JUST BRUSHED AWAY. *TT *TR

THE 2017 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER SPORT'S CVT TRANSMISSION HESITANT WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP THEN IT SURGES WITH POWER AND THE RPM FLUCTUATES UP AND DOWN CONTINUOUSLY. WHEN GIVEN GAS THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES DOES NOT ACCELERATE. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT ALWAYS LIKE THIS. I RECORDED MULTIPLE VIDEO SHOWING THE RPM FLUCTUATES CONSTANTLY EVEN IN CRUISE CONTROL. I TOOK IT TO LOCAL MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP AND THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR A DAY TO LOG THE DATA AS THEY DROVE IT AROUND ONLY TO BE TOLD "THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT"

I BOUGHT MY WIFE A NEW 2017 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER SPORT ES FOR OUR ANNIVERSARY ON 1/24/2017. THE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE 5K MLS ON IT. RECENTLY ON 9/5/17 THE CAR STARTED TO ACT WEIRD. FROM A STOP TO GO THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE NORMAL. IT HAS A SLOW GET UP TO CATCH SPEED. IT DRIVES LIKE 10MPH FOR A WILE AND THEN SOMETIMES GOES BACK TO NORMAL. SHE HAS TO TURN THE IGNITION FROM ON TO OFF SO THE CAR KIND OF GOES BACK TO DRIVING NORMALLY AGAIN.
