I was driving down the road and spun out of control because my rack and pinion steering inner and outer tie rod snapped in half, because of rust from salt water and corrosion on the metal, resulting in my loss of control and front passenger wheel turned 90 degrees inward and nearly ripped the front tire off and under the car, brought the car home and inspected it tthoroughly, and saw the immediate problem

The car started to slow down on its own even when my foot was on the gas it wouldn’t pick up speed over 20mph then it started to over heat, then smoke. It sounded like sparks like from a firecracker and smelt like something was burning to the point I had to pull over and turn the car off so my children and I could get out and breathe. When I restarted it turned on but would not drive when put into gear. I had it towed and the next day I tried again only this time the battery was dead and nothing was left on in the car I couldn’t understand how this happened so I bought a new battery put it in and it started still wouldn’t move though so I gave it a few days went to try again and the new battery was dead like something was draining all the power.

The contact stated while the vehicle was having a routine oil change at the dealer, the mechanic stated that rear crossmember bar was rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact was informed that the front crossmember bar needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 116,000. The consumer stated while the mechanic was attempting to change the front cross member started taking the front end apart, he said he had stripped a bolt on the catalytic converter. Also, the dealer charged the consumer for a new catalytic converter without permission. A new appointment was made on 12/14/2022 to fix the damages at their cost.

The vehicle was repaired however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the Bluetooth connection module was draining the battery and that the module needed to be removed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL AT 15 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO OPERATE AS NEEDED UPON DEPRESSION AS THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO PUMP HIS BRAKES REPEATEDLY IN AN EFFORT TO STOP THE VEHICLE; HE ALSO APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FOR ASSISTANCE BEFORE HITTING A TREE STUMP. THE CONTACT SUFFERED A TWEAK IN HIS RIGHT SHOULDER BUT DID NOT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT NEEDED AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DUE TO LOW IMPACT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. THE CONTACT THEN SPOKE TO ROSEVILLE AUTOMALL(700 AUTOMALL DR, ROSEVILLE, CA 95661) AND THE MANUFACTURER WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V077000(SERVICE BRAKES, AIR); THEY OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER FUNCTIONING, BUT THE TAIL LIGHTS WERE STILL OPERATING. THE CAR FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO BRAKE LIGHTS NOT FUNCTIONING AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE ECU, PART NUMBER 8637C096 IS WHAT IS IN MY VEHICLE. THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL FOR A 2009 LANCER, SR-15-002, FOR THE ECU BUT BECAUSE OF THE PART NUMBER (8637A826) DIFFERENCE THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE MY ECU THAT IS FAULTY. UPON FURTHER PERSONAL INVESTIGATION I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL ISSUES SURROUNDING THE ECU FOR LANCERS;10091781, 10158957, 10142736, 10117850, 10158956, 10158955, 10142736, 10158957. SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS HAVE REPORTED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND THAT THE COMPANY WOULD NOT FIX THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, THIS PART MUST BE PROGRAMMED BY A LISCENED DEALER....THIS MONOPOLY OF PARTS, REFUSAL TO GIVE OUT PART IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS, AND EXTREME COST (OF THE PART ~$870) HAS CAUSED PEOPLE TO BE UNABLE TO AFFORD THE REPAIR WHILE THE MANUFACTURE IS ESSENTIALLY NOT COVERING THE COST OF THE SAFETY CONCERN AND PUTS THE COST OF REPAIR ON THE CONSUMER.. WE HAVE ISSUES WITH THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS MALFUNCTIONING. THEY WOULD CUT OFF WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. WOULD STAY ON WHEN CAR AND LIGHTS WERE TURNED OFF AND WE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE RELAY OUT TO GET THEM TURNED OFF. THEY WOULD FLASH ON AND OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS ON OR OFF. REPLACED NUMEROUS RELAYS, RETURNED MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH THREE TIMES. THIS CAUSED OUR SON TO HAVE A WRECK AS THE LOW BEAMS LIGHTS TURNED OFF AND A CAR NOT SEEING HIM PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF HIM. STARTED A 1 1/2 YEARS AGO, THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE HEADLIGHTS TURNING OFF AND NOTHING BEING DONE. THE FOLLOWING IS A RESULT OF A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION FLUID DIPSTICK ACKNOWLEDGED BY MITSUBISHI AND ADDRESSED BY A SERVICE BULLETIN. THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL OF THE DIPSTICK. (HTTPS://MITSUBISHITECHINFO.COM/DATA/TECH_DOCS/2010/52005696/HTML/520056966.HTM) AFTER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT NORMAL SPEEDS, 70MPH AND UNDER, THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED AND A SLOW DOWN WARNING APPEARED. I PULLED OVER, LIFTED THE HOOD AND LET IT COOL DOWN FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES; THE WARNING HAD DISAPPEARED. I RESUMED DRIVING AT SPEEDS 45 AND UNDER, AND WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL THE TRANSMISSION WHINED VERY LOUDLY AND I LOST SO MUCH POWER THAT THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW TO A STOP ON THE ROAD. WITH NO SLOW DOWN WARNING, I WAS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN WHEN THE TRANSMISSION WHINED VERY LOUDLY AND THE CAR STOPPED MOVING FORWARD. AN 18 WHEELER WAS ONCOMING AND WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP. THANKFULLY, THE CAR WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT SAFELY OUT OF THE WAY, BUT IT WAS CLOSE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED MANY SIMILAR INCIDENTS. THE TRANSMISSION HAS FREQUENTLY OVERHEATED SINCE I'VE HAD IT WHEN IT HAD ONLY 30,000 MILES. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FILTERS HAVE BEEN REGULARLY CHANGED PER THE OWNER'S MANUAL. WHILE IT HAS A REBUILT TITLE, THERE WAS ONLY EXTERIOR DAMAGE AND NO PART OF THE POWER TRAIN WAS EVER DAMAGED. I DISCOVERED THE SERVICE BULLETIN FROM RESEARCH AND FORUMS. I WAS ON THE 4TH FLOOR OF A PARKING GARAGE IN MY TOWN AND WAS GOING UP TO THE TOP LEVEL. AS I AM ABOUT TO TURN THE CORNER, I REALIZE I AM GOING A BIT FASTER THAN I THOUGHT. SO I APPLY FULL PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES WHICH DID NOT WORK AS FAST AS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO. THE TOW TRUCK MAN LATER TOLD ME THAT I WAS GOING AROUND 20 TO 30 MPH AT TIME OF IMPACT. WHEN I HIT THE PILLAR IN FRONT OF ME, THE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY AND MY SEATBELT DID NOT TIGHTEN AS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO. THIS MEANT THAT MY WHOLE BODY SNAPPED FORWARD AND IMPACTED COLLARBONE FIRST INTO THE STEERING WHEEL. AFTER THIS INCIDENT, MY WHOLE LEFT SIDE FELT NUMB AND I WAS LEFT WITH A SWOLLEN COLLARBONE AND CONTUSIONS FROM THE IMPACT.

SAFETY CONCERNS ABOUT THE RUST UNDERNEATH MY CAR (120K MILES CALIFORNIA VEHICLE) RUST MAY HAVE EATEN THROUGH THE METALS UNDERNEATH MY CAR AND IM SCARED TO DRIVE WITH THESE RUST PROBLEMS BECAUSE THEY MIGHT FAIL WHEN IM ON THE FREEWAY WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF A BAD ACCIDENT CAUSING MY LIFE AND OTHER PEOPLES LIFE ON THE LINE. I DONT DRIVE MY CAR NO MORE THAN 10 MILES ANYMORE DUE TO THIS RUST PROBLEM. THE PICTURE I PROVIDED DOESNT LOOK THAT BAD BUT LIFTING THE CAR UP IN THE AIR GOING UNDERNEATH WILL GIVE YOU THE IDEA OF HOW BAD IT IS. ABS BRAKE MODULATOR WAS A KNOWN FAULTY DESIGN PER MITSUBISHI. AN UPDATED UNIT WITH NEW MODEL NUMBER ALLEDGEDLY FIXES THE COMMON PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT UNDER RECALL. MY CAR HAS ONLY 55,000 MILES AND THESE PUMPS SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR NORMALLY. THE COST TO REPLACE IS $1800 WHICH IS MUCH HIGHER THAN MOST MAKES AND MODELS.

S-AWC PUMP HAS A CORRODIBLE HOUSING AND IS PLACED IN AN AREA THAT IS EXPOSED TO SALT AND WATER FROM THE REAR PASSENGER-SIDE WHEEL. THE PLACEMENT OF THE PUMP IS A DESIGN FLAW AND HAS LED TO SEVERE CORROSION OF THE PUMP HOUSING AND FAILURE OF THE PUMP. THE FAILURE OF THE PUMP COMPLETELY DISABLES BOTH THE ACTIVE CENTER DIFFERENTIAL AND THE ACTIVE YAW CONTROL SYSTEMS, BOTH OF WHICH ARE INTENDED TO ASSIST THE DRIVER IN CONTROLLING THE CAR UNDER ADVERSE HANDLING SITUATIONS.

MITSUBISHI LANCER DCT470 SST TRANSMISSION RECALL - MY TRANSMISSION LOST EVEN GEARS WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. THE CAR SELECTED A LOWER GEAR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. I PULLED OVER TO TROUBLESHOOT AND EVENTUALLY MADE IT HOME. THIS COSTLY REPAIR FORCED ME TO BUY ANOTHER CAR AND HAVE SINCE LEFT THE REPAIR UNATTENDED. THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE PROBLEM IS SO COMMON THAT A PETITION WAS STARTED TO HELP THOSE OTHERS THAT WERE ALSO AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS A SHIFT FORK MAGNET BECOMES DISLOCATED FROM THE BRACKET AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE TRANSMISSION TO SELECT EVEN GEARS. IN ORDER TO REPAIR, A SPECIALIST MUST DISASSEMBLE AND REBUILD THE CASE. IT IS NOT CAUSED FROM ANY MAINTENANCE NEGLECT NOR DRIVING HABIT OR ABUSE. IT CAN OCCUR IN ALL MODELS WITH THIS SPECIFIC TRANSMISSION. IT IS A WORLDWIDE ISSUE INCLUDING CANADA & AUSTRALIA. I HAVE NOT YET REPAIRED MY PERSONAL TRANSMISSION AND HOPE TO DO SO IN THE FUTURE. I HAD TO REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR YESTERDAY AND HAVE THE DEFECTIVE PART THAT SHOWS IT WAS RECALLED IN MITSUBISHI'S SAFETY RECALL BULLETIN SR−15−003 DATED JUNE 2015. I CONTACTED MITUSUBISHI DIRECTLY, AND THE REPRESENTATIVE I SPOKE WITH TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THIS RECALL. THIS IS FRUSTRATING, AS I HAVE THE DEFECTIVE BLOWER MOTOR WHICH IS CLEARLY MARKED WITH THE RECALLED NUMBER. I BELIEVE MITSUBISHI MISSED SOME CARS IN THEIR RECALL. TOOK VEHICLE IN AT 08:00 AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE CAR COULD NOT BE DETERMINED IF IT WAS ONE OF THE DEFECTED VEHICLES UNTIL 12:00 THAT DAY. WHEN ASKED IF I COULD GET A LOAN VEHICLE IN ORDER TO GO BACK TO WORK, CUTRUBUS DEALER DENIED. THEY ALSO STATED IF MY CAR HAD THE DEFECTIVE PARTS IT COULD TAKE 48 HOURS TO FIX MY VEHICLE AND STILL DENIED A LOANER VEHICLE. I COULD NOT LEAVE MY CAR TO HAVE THE SAFETY RECALL FIXED DUE TO BEING ACTIVE DUTY IN THE AIR FORCE AND BEING A SINGLE PARENT, I CAN NOT GO WITHOUT A VEHICLE. THE MANAGER WAS NOTIFIED AND I SPOKE WITH MITSUBISHI MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING A LOANER VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD BE UP TO THE DEALERSHIP IF THEY WANTED TO OR NOT. I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN 2009 FROM THE MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP IN GA, BRAND NEW. I TRAVEL OFTEN AND LONG DISTANCES SO I HAVE ACCUMULATED A LOT OF MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. I BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY TRANSMISSION IN AUGUST 2012 WITH THIS WHINING NOISE EVERYTIME I ACCELERATED. MY "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER THE NOISE STARTED. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO AUTO ZONE, THEY PULLED A "FAILED SHIFT SOLENOID" CODE. I HAD A TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSH DONE AT AROUND 70K MILES WITH THE PROPER CVT TRANSMISSION FLUID ADDED TO THE VEHICLE. WHEN I WAS TRAVELING THE HIGHWAY FOR CHRISTMAS FROM MISSOURI TO GEORGIA, ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH THE TRIP I SAW THIS RED SIGNAL ON THE DASHBOARD THAT READ "SLOW DOWN!" WITH A THERMOSTAT ABOVE THE WARNING. I READ THROUGH THE MANUAL AND GOOGLE SEARCHED THE WARNING AND READ THAT IT MEANT THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS OVERHEATING. FOR THE REST OF THE 13-HOUR DRIVE, ANYTIME I DROVE OVER 75 MILES AN HOUR FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I TRIED TO IGNORE IT AT ONE POINT AND THIS CAUSED MY TRANSMISSION TO STOP SHIFTING (I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC). I HAD TO STOP 4 TIMES BETWEEN THE TRIP BECAUSE OF THIS LIGHT. I HAVE A POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE FOR 10 YEARS/100K MILES. WHILE IN SAVANNAH, I HAD THE MITSUBISHI DEALER RUN A DIAGNOSTIC IN WHICH THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THERE WAS AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION ISSUE. WHEN COMING TO A STOP THE CAR WILL DOWNSHIFT FROM 5TH TO 3RD AND THEN TO 1ST PUTTING TONS OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES INSTEAD OF DECELERATING THE CAR GRADUALLY. THE CAR ACTUALLY HESITATES AT THIS POINT AS IF IT DOES NOT WANT TO STOP. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR WILL RED LINE FIRST GEAR AND THEN SHIFT TO 3RD AND REPEAT TO SHIFT TO 5TH GEAR. AS A CONSEQUENCE THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER, AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED, AND HE SUSTAINED INJURIES. SHE HAS A COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 16,000.

MITSUBISHI LANCER ES SPORT 2009. I HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM, I RECEIVE A LETTER OF A SERVICE RECALL AND I WENT TO MAKE THE REPARATIONS. THE CAR HAS PRESENT SEVERAL BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT CALIPERS, DISKS AND PADS. APPARENTLY THE CAR HAS A DEFECT BECAUSE THE LEFT FRONT CALIPER MAKES THE PAD HAVE A FASTER WASTAGE THAN USUAL AND REDUCES THE BRAKE EFFICIENCY. I THINK THAT THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PROBLEM BECAUSE MY LIFE IS IN RISK AND OTHER PERSONS LIFE BECAUSE I CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.. THE CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED BY 4 TIMES BUT STILL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, ACTUALLY THE CAR HAS 29,157 MILES. *TR

MY HUSBAND BOUGHT A MITSUBISHI RALLIART 2009 LANCER AND WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OF WHICH CAR ROLLED OVER. THE CAR WAS TOTALED WHEN WE VIEWED THE CAR AT THE TOWING LOCATION THE DRIVER AIRBAGS DID NOT OPEN ONLY PASSENGER AIRBAG OPENED. THE VEHICLE FIRST HIT A LIGHT POLE AND THEN ROLLED OVER, SO I WOULD THINK THAT THE DRIVER AIRBAG WOULD HAVE OPENED. 2009 LANCER, CLUTCH WENT OUT AT UNDER 20,000 MILES. I HAVE BEEN READING OF MANY CLUTCH PROBLEMS IN PAST MODELS, IS THERE A TREND HERE. I HAVE OWED 15 CARS, HALF HAVE BEEN MANUAL TRANSMISSION. I HAVE ONLY HAD TO REPLACE 2 CLUTCHES: MITSUBISHI 3000 GT AT 40,000 AND THE LANCER AT 18,000. I'VE HAD MY 09 LANCER SINCE JULY OF 2008. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS UP UNTIL RECENTLY. FOR ABOUT THE PAST MONTH NOW, ON FOUR OCCASIONS, USUALLY IN THE MORNING, WHEN I GO TO START MY CAR IT JUST WONT START. IT MAKES THE SAME SOUND AS IF MY CAR WAS TO START, BUT JUST DOESN'T. I WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE, I WAS ON THE LEFT HAND LANE WHEN I LOOKED THROUGH THE REARVIEW MIRROR AND NOTICED A VEHICLE BEHIND DOING ABOUT 80-90 MILES PER HOUR. I MERGED TO THE MIDDLE LANE SO THAT THEY COULD CONTINUE ON. THEY WERE RECKLESSLY DRIVING AND THEY SWERVED TO MY LANE, I PROCEEDED TO SWERVE TO AVOID GETTING HIT AND WHEN I TRIED TO HIT THE BRAKES THEY JAMMED ON ME. I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND HIT THE RIGHT DIVIDER WITH THE FRONT OF MY CAR, THE CAR PROCEEDED TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL AND EVERY ANGLE OF THE CAR WAS HIT WITH DIVIDER AND THEN I ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE LANE FACING TRAFFIC. ONLY 3 OUT OF 8 AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE MAIN AIRBAG WHICH WAS THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG AND KNEE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR IS CLAIMED TO BE A TOTAL LOSS BY GEICO. *TR

I BOUGHT A 2009 MITSUBISHI LANCER IN MAY OF '08. I TRADED IN MY '04 LANCER AT THAT TIME WITH 145,000KMS. ALL ORIGINAL PARTS EXCEPT FOR BRAKES. I MOVED TO BC IN AUG '08 FROM ALBERTA WHERE I HAD BOUGHT MY CAR. *TR I WAS COMING HOME FROM CHRISTMAS IN AB ON JAN.2/09 WHEN THE HINGE ON MY DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW BROKE, AND MY CLUTCH STARTED TO SLIP. I DROVE MY MY CAR AN HOUR AND A HALF TO THE NEAREST MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. THE MECHANIC THAT DAY TOLD ME THAT THE REAR SEAL HAD A LEAK, THAT OIL HAD BEEN SPRAYING LIKELY THROUGH THE CLUTCH AND THAT I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE MADE IT. WHEN A DIFFERENT PERSON CALLED ME ON MONDAY, HE SAID THAT WHEN THEY TOOK IT APART, THE SEAL HAD BEEN FACTORY INSTALLED WRONG AND THAT'S WHAT WAS CAUSING THE OIL TO LEAK. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO TRACE OF OIL IN THE CLUTCH AND THAT IT WAS WORN. HE TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL COVER THE SEAL AND THE WINDOW, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE CLUTCH. I HAVE DRIVEN MANUAL FOR OVER 10 YEARS. I HAVE DRIVEN TO AB AND BACK 4 TIMES IN MY NEW CAR, SO 80% OF THE 30,000KMS ON IT ARE HWY DRIVEN. I GOT 145,000KMS AND 4 1/2 YRS ON THE LAST LANCER I BOUGHT, AND TRADED IT IN WITH THE ORIGINAL CLUTCH. I HAVE TALKED TO MGR'S AND SUPERVISOR'S, AND THEY ALL GO BACK AND TALK TO THE MECHANIC. SAYING THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE. NO SECOND OPINION. LEAVING ME TO COVER THE COST OF A NEW CLUTCH ($600). I HAVE SINCE FOUND REPORTS THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PREVIOUS PROBLEMS WITH CLUTCHES ON OLDER MODELS. COULD THERE NOT BE PROBLEMS WITH NEW ONES TOO? ESPECIALLY WHEN 2 OTHER MAJOR BREAKS HAPPENED ON THE SAME DAY ON MY CAR? BOTH FACTORY PROBLEMS. *TR
