Recalled master cylinder brake booster was repaired at the dealership under the recall approx 4 or 5 years ago. The same issue has began again. Out of nowhere while braking, the pedal will become soft and press to the floor. During this time, the car will not slow down. This is resembling a defective part.

Entering I-294 express ramp, vehicle was not accelerating beyond 40mph. then as I entered highway it shut down completely. I coasted to the right shoulder. The dash displayed a "low oil pressure" alert. So I did not attempt to restart the car. When I had it towed home, I checked the oil level and it was full. Nothing like this happened before. The vehicle is almost 12 years old with 167,000 miles. Had this happened in traffic on the expy, I could have been creamed by other cars or a truck. I am going to the dealer today to investigate but this seems like an anomaly where the engine shuts down because the computer thinks there is a catastrophic failure that is not really happening.

I have tried changing fuses to no avail. Also, the rear camera does not work. Along with the blind spot warning or the rear cross traffic warning. How should I proceed? I believe it may be a faulty chip in the computer board.

While leaving out my driveway my brakes went straight to the floor before stopping. After I put the car in park and put my foot on the break again it was hard to push the brake pedal. I also hear air coming from the break pedal area. I had no warning and still do not have any warnings. I’ve noticed after reading a lot of reviews this seem to be a common problem and it’s not safe. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided the same information as the dealer. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Lincoln MKX. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The All-Wheel Drive (AWD) warning light and the power train warning light were illuminated. The contact stated that he veered to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle and waited for 15-20 seconds. The contact then continued driving; however, the failure recurred increasingly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who test drove the vehicle and informed the contact that they could not duplicate the failure. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under an unknown NHTSA Campaign because the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 97,400.

The braking system failed to adequately stop the car. In contacting the Lincoln Customer Service, this failure mode is associated with a Lincoln Customer program # 13N02. This program has a 10 years or 150000 miles limit for repair. The vehicle (MKX - 2012) has 65000 miles and was purchased 12/20/2011. It is 1 month out of the defined period. The car has only been driven a few hundred miles since 2020 due to illness and death of the owners. The brake system is a safety device and should not be considered a "Customer Care" program with limits as noted above. The failure of a breaking system will cause potential personal injury including death and should be reconsidered as a safety recall or the program should be extended. The incident of a major traffic accident on the highway was avoided that would have involved multiple cars if not taking evasive action in the median. The problem was confirmed by a dealer, verbally given the operation of the brake system. There were no warning lamps or any other indication prior to the incident. I have a 2012 Lincoln MKX and a piece of the transmission broke off while I was driving on the highway at night. I was able to get the vehicle to the shoulder but this could have caused a serious accident even resulting in fatalities. I have contacted the dealership but he is not cooperating and says that he is going to do nothing about it. I have an estimate from the repair where I had to have the vehicle towed. There were no type of warning lights at all on the dash board.

I had to slam on the brakes due to a driver pulling out in front of me without looking. The brakes went to the floor and I had difficulty getting the car stopped. I took it in to my mechanic and they diagnosed as a master cylinder, which I had replaced 7 months prior for a similar incident. But, replacing the master cylinder didn’t solve the problem. After more work, they replaced the entire ABS system for the rear brakes ($1900). I drove it 3 times and the brakes locked up on their own while I was driving at 60 miles an hour. When we got to the side of the road, smoke was billowing out of the brakes and the car would not move even though we were pushing the gas. We had the car towed ($300) back to the mechanic. They said the brake fuel line had gotten clogged and the front master cylinder needed to be replaced ($900). Drove twice and same issue, this time smoke billowing out of rear brakes. All brake fluid has completely drained and car needs to be repaired again. It is not drivable, so we will have to have it towed again. I’m so frustrated because this is extremely dangerous and I am stuck with a vehicle that seems to be irreparable and not drivable. Shame on Ford for not recalling this when it is obviously such an issue.

I was driving and when I pressed on the brake, the pedal went far down and had no indication of the care stopping. It did, but it took a long time to brake. I took it for repair at Firestone, because my dealer warranty was expired. However, the Firestone let me know there is a booster brake replacement letter; the number of the recall is: 13N02. My car still qualifies as it is under 150,000 miles. The dealership repair denies my car is eligible; the main Lincoln office customer service representative also denied my car based on the vin. Is this correct? The letter of Customer Satisfaction Warranty shoes no exception based on vin?

MY 2012 LINCOLN MKX IS EXPERIENCING AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS REQUIRING EXTREME FORCE TO STOP AND GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, FOLLOWED BY A HISSING AIRY SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LINCOLN DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS A BRAKES AND CHARGED ME $900. AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE AND TEST DRIVING IT, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. AFTER RE-DIAGNOSING THEY POINTED THE FINGER TO A HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THIS ISSUE POSES GREAT DANGER AND THE INABILITY TO STOP WITHOUT LITERALLY STANDING AND APPLYING FORCE TO THE BRAKES. I HAVE HAD TO STOP DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT ANY SPEED, THE FORCE NEEDED TO STOP AND A COUPLE CLOSE CALLS WITH RAMMING IN THE BACK OF SOMEONE, THE CAR IS JUST TOO DANGEROUS. ADDITIONALLY, I'VE HAD OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS CAR WHERE THE TRUNK WILL NOT STAY OPEN. IT DOES NOT DETECT A PERSON PUTTING THINGS IN THE TRUNK AND I'VE HAD TO RUN AND PUSH IT UP TO SAVE A KID WHO WAS LOADING SPORTS EQUIPMENT.

AS MY CAR'S BREAK PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND IT MAKES STOPPING THE CAR ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE AT ANY SPEED.THIS IS VERY PROBLEMATIC FOR THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL.I AM ASSUMING FORD WILL WAIT TILL SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED BEFORE THEY RECALL THE PROBLEM.BUYER BEWARE STAY AWAY FROM THIS MODEL AND THE MAJORITY OF FORD PRODUCTS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALER. WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED DEFECTIVE APIM AND UPDATED TO LATEST LEVEL FOR PMI ON OCT 1, 2019, MILEAGE: 60759. PAID FOR $965.64.

IN OCTOBER 2019, THE BRAKES IN MY 2012 LINCOLN MKX WENT OUT AS I WAS DRIVING. I HAD NO BREAK PEDAL PRESSURE. I WAS ABLE TO STOP, USING MY EMERGENCY BREAK TO SLOW DOWN FULLY, AND FORTUNATELY I WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND NO ONE WAS HURT. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO OUR LOCAL LINCOLN DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE BREAK BOOSTER AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAD EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM IN THE PAST AND THAT IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. ON NOVEMBER 21ST, I HAD ISSUES WITH MY BREAKS AGAIN. WHILE I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN BY PRESSING THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, I ONCE AGAIN HAD TO USE MY EMERGENCY BREAK TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS A VALVE WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THIS RESULTED IN A $2001 REPAIR WITH PARTS AND LABOR. I AM VERY SURPRISED AND CONCERNED THIS HAPPENED AT ONLY 85,000 MILES. ON DECEMBER 6TH, IT HAPPENED A THIRD TIME. THE BREAK FLUID, WHICH HAD BEEN FILLED AT THE TIME MY ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WAS REPLACED HAD COMPLETELY EMPTIED, RESULTING IN MY INABILITY TO PROPERLY USE MY BREAKS. AGAIN, I HAD NO PEDAL PRESSURE. I REFILLED THE BREAK FLUID IN ORDER TO 'SAFELY' GET MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. I FOUND OUT THAT ONE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL SYSTEM UNIT HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS THE VALVE WAS AGAIN MALFUNCTIONING. I SAW THAT THERE IS A RECALL IN PLACE FOR THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL SYSTEM FOR SOME VEHICLES DUE TO VALVE ISSUES - THE SAME ISSUE I HAVE HAD TWICE. MY CAR IS NOT CURRENTLY PART OF THE RECALL. THIS IS THREE TIMES IN TWO MONTHS THAT I HAVE HAD BREAK ISSUE WITH MY CAR. EACH TIME MY FIVE YEAR OLD WAS IN THE BACK SEAT. I FEEL FORTUNATE THAT THESE THREE INCIDENCES HAVE NOT RESULTED IN ACCIDENT OR INJURY, BUT EASILY COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC.

THE BRAKES ON OUR 2012 LINCOLN MKX HAVE WITHOUT WARNING FAILED PLACING MYSELF AND MY FAMILY AT GREAT RISK. THE SEQUENCE OF THE FAILURE WAS A VERY STIFF BRAKE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED BY A SOFT PEDAL THAT WHEN DEPRESSED GOES FULLY TO THE FLOOR (ENDPOINT OF THE BRAKES). IN SPITE OF BEING FULLY DEPRESSED BRAKING IS EXTREMELY MINIMAL. THERE IS NO CABIN WARNING OF A SYSTEM FAILURE AND THE ONLY METHOD OF KNOWING OF THIS LIFE CRITICAL SYSTEM'S FAILURE IS NEEDING TO USE THE BRAKES. THIS OBVIOUSLY PLACES THE OCCUPANTS OF THE CAR AND THOSE INNOCENTLY IN THE CAR'S PATH AT A HEIGHTENED RISK OF DEATH DUE TO TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. I HAVE SEEN THAT THIS COMPLAINT IS NOT ISOLATED TO OUR FORD PRODUCT BUT EXTREMELY PREVALENT TO FORD EDGE AND LINCOLN MKX VEHICLES. WHILE FORD IS SUPPORTING THE ISSUE THROUGH A WARRANTY EXTENSION GIVEN THE EXTREME DANGER PRESENTED BY CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE SUCH AS THIS IT SEEMS PRUDENT THAT THE NHTSA DEMAND A RECALL OF ALL VEHICLES THAT MAY BE SUBJECT TO THIS ISSUE. LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR SENSOR WILL NOT SHUT OFF. THE CAR CONSISTENTLY THINKS THE DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IN FACT THE DOOR IS CLOSED. THIS SETS THE VEHICLE CAR ALARM OFF WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED 2-4 TIMES A DAY. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT, ALL OF THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAIN ON AS IT THINKS THE DOOR IS OPEN, CAUSING NIGHT TIME DRIVING VERY DIFFICULT. WE HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AT NIGHT TO STOP DRAINING THE BATTERY. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A FLAW IN THE DESIGN SINCE THE SWITCH IS BUILT INTO THE DOOR LATCH. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS DESIGN FLAW HAS BEEN PUSHED OFF ONTO THE CONSUMER WHICH IS UNETHICAL AND WRONG.

NOTICED BRAKES GETTING A LITTLE SOFT WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE AND HAVING TO PRESS ON THEM FROM A FURTHER DISTANCE TO ENSURE I WOULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A LIGHT OR SIGN. THERE IS A CONSTANT HISSING SOUND THAT SOUNDS LIKE AIR ESCAPING EVEN WITH THE LIGHTEST OF TAPS. I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES ALL THE WAY DOWN TO AVOID HITTING A DOG AND THEY EMITTED A HIGH PITCHED SQUEAK AUDIBLE INSIDE THE SUV ONLY. THE BRAKES WERE WORKING FINE UP UNTIL RECENTLY AS I HIT THE 78K MILE MARK. THIS MORNING I HAD A HUGE SCARE AS I WAS NEARING AN INTERSECTION AND THEY GAVE OUT, I HAD TO PUMP THEM SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER TO STOP AND LUCKILY I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND DIDN'T HAVE MY THREE KIDS WITH ME. THERE WAS ALSO NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME IF NOT I WOULD HAVE WRECKED PRETTY BADLY! TOWED IT TO DEALER - THEY RAN DIAGNOSTIC TESTS AND FOUND "NOTHING WRONG WITH IT". TWO WEEKS LATER SAME THING HAPPENED. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON A CITY STREET AGAIN AND ABLE TO MOVE OVER. HAD THIS HAPPENED N THE FREEWAY I AM SURE THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT. DEALER AGAIN COULD FIND NOTHING AGAIN. APPARENTLY THE DIAGNOSTIC TESTS ARE NOT EFFECTIVE. THEY RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE "THROTTLE". THAT "MIGHT" BE THE PROBLEM. I AM NOW VERY UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND STAY ALWAYS IN THE RIGHT LANE JUST IN CASE IT DECIDES TO DIE AGAIN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 LINCOLN MKX. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STALLED. THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, AND RESUMED DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY CAR STARTED JERKING WHILE PRESSING ON THE GAS, THEN CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN, AND POWER SHUT DOWN. SO LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND AVOID A ACCIDENT. SAT FOR AWHILE THEN RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE OFF. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, WHILE TRYING TO MERGE ON TO A FREEWAY ,WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, CAR JERKS AND ACTS AS IF IT WANTS TO SHUT DOWN. ALSO DOOR SENSORS BEEP EVERY TIME YOU GET OUT OF CAR, AND YOU HAVE TO KEEP SLAMMING DOORS IN ORDER FOR INTERIOR, LIGHTS TO GO OFF. DASH READS DOORS ARE STILL OPEN. NO POWER TO MY RADIO AND CANT EVEN GET MY DISPLAY SCREEN TO TURN ON.

DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH MECHANISM HAS FAILED. THE DOOR OPEN WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH STAYS ON. ATTEMPTS TO GET IT TO GO OUT HAVE FAILED. THE CAR DINGS THE ENTIRE TIME WHILE DRIVING IT. AT NIGHT THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS STAY ON AND INTERFERS WITH VISIBILITY. WHEN CAR IS PARKED THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON, DRAINING THE BATTERY DUE TO THE DOOR OPEN WARNING ON THE DASH.

SAME AS ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I WENT TO STOP AT A 4 WAY STOP AND MY BRAKES WERE HARD THAN HISSED AND WENT WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I NOTICED A FEW DAYS AGO WHEN I WAS IN TRAFFIC MY BRAKES DIDN'T WANT TO HOLD. I PRESSED REALLY HARD AND ONLY THEN DID MY CAR STOPPED. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE CHECKED IT OUT AND SAID MY BRAKES LOOKED GREAT. TWO DAYS AGO I WAS DRIVING AND MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A FAULTY VALUE AND THAT MY BRAKES WERE FINE. I DRIVE A LINCOLN 2012 MKX. AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD COMING UP TO A MAJOR INTERSECTION MY BRAKES FAILED. AFTER VIGOROUSLY PUMPING THE BRAKES, I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO COME TO A SAFE STOP WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. AS IT TURNED OUT, THE BRAKES HAD A DEFECTED POWER BOOSTER AND I HAD TO HAVE THIS REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH LINCOLN AND BESIDES OFFERING ME AN EXTRA WARRANTY THEY COULD NOT ASSIST WITH GETTING ME INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS PURCHASEDNEW. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE NAVIGATION SYSTEM *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, HE WAS PROVIDED WITH A DISC WITH AN UPDATED PROGRAM TO SIMPLIFY THE USE OF THE SYSTEM AND MAKE IT MORE USER FRIENDLY. THE SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED BY THE DEALER, BUT THE SYSTEM IS STILL NOT USER FRIENDLY AND IS A HAZARD TO THE DRIVING PUBLIC. THE CONSUMER STATED ONCE A DRIVER WAS IN A FUNCTION, THERE WAS NO CANCELLATION BUTTON OR END BUTTON IN THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, OR THE AUDIO SYSTEM, AND ON MANY OCCASIONS THE PHONE SYSTEM, WITHOUT THE DRIVER BEING DISTRACTED AND SEARCHING FOR THE CORRECT MENU WHICH OBVIOUSLY TOOK THE DRIVER'S ATTENTION OFF THE ROAD. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A FUEL LEAK OR ANY ISSUES WITH THE FUEL LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ISSUE WAS NORMAL FOR THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,500.

THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCH MECHANISM CLOSED WITHOUT THE DOOR ACTUALLY BEING CLOSED. THIS CAUSED A FALSE POSITIVE CONDITION FOR THE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING SYSTEM. I THOUGHT THAT THE DOOR WAS SECURE, HOWEVER THE DOOR WAS IN FACT NOT LATCHED TO THE VEHICLE. MY EIGHT YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT. WERE IT NOT FOR THE PERCEPTION OF MY WIFE WHO SUSPECTED THAT THE DOOR WAS INSECURE I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH A DOOR THAT WOULD OPEN WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING. THIS FALSE POSITIVE CONDITION IS CAUSED BY THE FACT THAT FORD HAS PLACED THE SENSOR THAT TESTS FOR THE DOOR BEING CLOSED ON THE LATCH MECHANISM RATHER THAN ON THE VEHICLE BODY. AS OUR CIRCUMSTANCES DEMONSTRATE THE SIMPLE FACT OF THE DOOR LATCH BEING CLOSED DOES NOT INSURE THAT THE DOOR IS ACTUALLY SECURED TO THE VEHICLE BODY. WHILE NO INJURIES OCCURRED IN OUR INCIDENT THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS INJURY IS OBVIOUS. HAD THE DOOR ACTUALLY OPENED MY CHILD MAY HAVE EASILY FALLEN OUT OF A MOVING VEHICLE. THE DRIVER OF THE CAR MUST KNOW WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY THAT ALL DOORS ARE TRULY SECURED. TESTING THE LATCH FOR BEING CLOSED IS NOT A SUFFICIENT TEST FOR THE CLOSURE OF THE DOORS. *TR
