2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Problems & Complaints

My 2011 Range Rover Sport HSE experienced a severe fuse box failure. Fuses F15, F18, and F20 melted, causing wiring damage and disabling multiple systems. This failure appears to be due to a design or manufacturing defect and poses a serious fire hazard, putting the vehicle and occupants at risk. Upon research, it appears that almost every Range Rover Sport (LR3/320) from 2010–2013 suffers from this issue, indicating a widespread, systemic problem rather than an isolated incident. Request: I formally request that Land Rover and/or NHTSA investigate this safety defect and consider issuing a recall for all affected vehicles immediately. The fuel tank strap, also known as a fuel tank heat shield, protects the gas tank from debris during driving and off-road use. The original part number is WFN500021 which replaces WFI500053. Due to the metal chosen to make this shield, and the materials of other parts around it, it suffers from galvanic corrosion. As the tank shield starts to rust, that causes rust in other areas to start as well. The shield on my vehicle has probably about 30-40% of its original life left, and I do fear it falling out at some point and possibly the fuel tank going with it as the mounting points for the fuel tank may be corroded along with the tank strap.

The contact became aware that the spoiler cover had detached after arriving at the destination and parking the vehicle. I was on the highway and the rear spoiler over the back window flew off with the camera installed in the spoiler. The rear camera no longer works as a result of the spoiler flying off the vehicle. I contacted Land Rover of Brooklyn and was informed that they will not make the repair or honor the recall.

Smell gasoline and gasoline on ground. Recall exists for fuel tank but informed my model is not covered but the flange must be damaged as car is currently leaking gas. Car is at Range Rover dealership who says not covered but their is an existing safety recall for my 2011 Range Rover Sports

I purchased this vehicle on [XXX] The vehicle was delivered to me on January 15th. This incident occurred [XXX]. The Engine system failed and is available for inspection. The engine failed and began smoking profusely which inhabited my ability to see as well as other drivers within distance, which put all drivers and passengers at risk. The problem has been confirmed by an independent service center. The vehicle was inspected by a NYS certified mechanic. The check engine light came one prior to the failure and was noticed 2 days after purchasing the vehicle. Which is when this incident occurred. The car vibrates a lot. I bought this car 2 months ago and it's my first Land Rover. I loved the car. I want to use it to cross the United States and then take it to Europe. This year I want to do something different because I lost a son at the beginning of the year. I really need the car. I want to cross all of the United States by car. I need the car to be safe.

Hello My car car is the same year as the NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V623000 recall and my spoiler has started separating but am being told from Land Rover that my VIN isn’t in the racall even though it’s that year and has that issue will not do anything about it.

While driving the RRS the rear spoiler separated from the vehicle and flew off. Fortunately the road was quiet and the spoiler landed in the grass next to the road. This is a known issue and when I contacted Land Rover they stated mine didn't have the recall. If this had happened on a busy street or near pedestrians the outcome could have been worse or fatal.

The rear spoilers of my vehicle fell off while I was driving on the highway, which became an obstacle in the roadway. I contacted the dealer and they promised to order the part. While driving down the interstate my rear spoiler flew off the vehicle and caused the car behind me to swerve almost resulting in an accident.

I was making a u-turn onto a busy 4 lane highway which the speed limit was 45mph. Once I made my turn the truck starting putting and not going over 5mph. There was a very loud smell of gas. I barely made off the highway away from the incoming traffic. On the dash Restricted Performance was illuminated. I had to get the vehicle towed. I was terrified because my daughter and I commute everyday and that issue with fuel could have been horrific. I called the dealer they advised me that the part for the recall is depleted and it could be weeks or even months before they hear anything.

Spoiler may detach from the car while driving, creating the risk of a crash, as my spoiler is detached. The top of the spoiler and bottom portion of the spoiler has an open gap between the top and bottom portions of the spoiler. The bottom portion hangs and covers nearly half my rear view camera, obstructing my view when attempting to use the rear camera. The spoiler seems to have become much looser and bounces excessively while being driven. It does not feel safe to continue driving at this time, as I fear the spoiler will detach while in transit and cause harm to vehicles traveling behind my vehicle. My vehicle is currently at my local Land Rover for another recall at this time. Had it towed over.

2011 RANGE ROVER SPORT. CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN REPLACEMENT PARTS WILL BE AVAILBLE IN ORDER TO PERFORM SAFETY RECALL N623.

The vehicle is leaking fuel close to the inside of the rear tire by the gas cap side. When I pump gas it doesn’t just drip, it’s pouring out the bottom of the vehicle and running down wires and parts of the car.

Door appears to be latched but will open unexpectedly while driving

The contact was informed that since parts were not available, she had to pay out of pocket for a temporary replacement and that she might be reimbursed through the manufacturer for the repair. The manufacturer was notified but had not yet responded. The vehicle remained in the dealer possession for three weeks; however, no agreement was reached. At the beginning of the year my car started going into limp mode and shutting down. I had it inspected and the purge valve was faulty and I paid to have it replaced in august 2021. In the past month it’s started dying while driving, mostly as I’m pulling up to a stoplight. The engine will sputter and it will completely die while the car is in drive which means I loose controll of the steering wheel even while it’s still moving. I just had it inspected and it’s the same issue, the purge valve I’ve just replaced is stuck closed. So this will be the 3rd purge valve this car has had in a 4 month period. I’m afraid this is going to cause me to have an accident and it’s the same thing over and over so it sounds like it’s a faulty part.

SAFETY RECALL N623: Gasoline Fuel Tank Flange Assembly Cracking WHY is this recall not showing when I enter my VIN number here? Vehicle was towed back to house November 24th, 2021 after discovering it was leaking gas all over the Walmart parking lot. I have been smelling gas inside the vehicle and on the outside passenger side of the vehicle for almost 2 months! I saw no visible evidence to prompt concern until November 24th. When I called AAA to have the car towed they asked me to call 911 to clear the car from “risk of explosion” before it could be towed. I have been trying to call the Land Rover dealership to get my car in for this repair and they can’t get me in until the end of January!?! How is this acceptable!? I’ve been driving this car around like this for two months.. possibly longer.. with my TODDLER! And I’m being told by AAA, my mobile mechanic and this ‘Safety Recall Letter’ that the car is at risk of explosion!? I have the “Important Safety Recall” letter in my hands right now that outlines my exact issue and it literally says.. “there could be liquid fuel underneath the vehicle, which in the presence of an ignition source could lead to a fire.” This is unacceptable! I don’t have a vehicle now. I can’t work. Not working isn’t an option. Not having a reliable and safe vehicle I can count on isn’t an option. I can’t get my car in for the necessary repairs in a timely manner. I’m just stuck. There is no ideal time for this issue to arise but right before Christmas!? I can’t even think of the appropriate words to communicate the level of havoc and life f**kery this is causing. I’m literally here reporting this issue because of the letter I received and now I’m infuriated this recall isn’t even listed on y’all’s website. Who sends out an “Important Safety Recall” letter that casually mentions the car could catch on fire and then just doesn’t put the recall into full effect!? What’s my next step? Attorney. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SPOILER DETACHING FROM THE CAR AS OF 11/20/2020 HOWEVER THIS HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE IN SEPT 2017 AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AS THE DEALER REFUSED TO. AM I ELIGIBLE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS NOW.

GAS LEAKING FROM THE FLANGE WHILE DRIVING. FLANGE WAS REPLACED. I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT THIS REPAIR AS A CONCERN. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT HAD A GAS LEAK. I LOST MY SENSE OF SMELL 20 YEARS AGO AND WOULD NOT HAVE KNOW OF THE GAS SMELL IF MY DAUGHTER HAD NOT MADE ME AWARE OF IT. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER ABOUT A POTENTIAL RECALL INVESTIGATION ON THE FLANGE AND THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY RECALL INVESTIGATION. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL BY LAND ROVER.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE REAR TOP SPOILER CAP FLEW OFF COMPLETELY. I AM AWARE OF 4 RECALLS ON THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE AND THIS IS ONE OF THEM. I WOULD LIKE ALL 4 RECALLS TO BE FIXED. NEED TO BE CONTACTED ASAP TO TAKE CARE OF THESE RECALL ISSUES. THANK YOU

PICKED UP RANGE ROVER ON 8/31. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON 9/14 (SEE BELOW INVOICE) WITH GAS SMELL TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO DEALERSHIP GOT ANOTHER RENT A CAR PAID FOR SERVICES 9/18 CALLED CARVANA AND SPOKE WITH ALEX 9/18 TO LET THEM KNOW I ONLY HAD THE RANGE ROVER FOR 2 MONTHS MINUS THE 2 WEEKS THE DEALERSHIP HAD IT TO FIX AND I HAVE BEEN HAVING "MAJOR" PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED FROM THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL WHERE SHE WAS TREATED FOR A BROKEN BACK. THE OTHER DRIVER REPORTED NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INITIALLY TOWED FROM THE SCENE OF ACCIDENT TO AN INDEPENDENT COLLISION CENTER. THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY THEN TOWED THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT COLLISION CENTER WHERE THEY DEEMED THE VEHICLE TOTALED. THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. SMELL OF FUEL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE, GET NOTICEABLY STRONGER AFTER DRIVING VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTING AROUND THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK I FOUND FUEL SQUIRTING OUT OF THE FUEL FILTER/PUMP WHICH IS SEATED IN THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. I HAD GONE ON LINE TO ASSISTED ME IN TRACKING DOWN THE ISSUE AND FOUND THIS IS A COMMON REPORTED ISSUE. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 111337 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND I NOTICED A LOT OF THESE REPORTED ISSUE ARE FOR LAND ROVER VEHICLES THAT HAVE AROUND THE SAME MILAGE.

THIS ISSUE OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER LAND ROVER REPLACE THE RECALLED AIRBAGS WITH A COMPLIMENTARY OIL CHANGE. MY MECHANIC SAYS THE TIMING CHAIN GUIDES WEAR PRE MATURELY CAUSING KNOCK IN MOTOR WHICH COULD LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THERE IS AN UPDATED TIMING CHAIN , HOWEVER THIS JOB IS 2-4K DOLLARS TO COMPLETE. THE ENGINE HAD AN ODD KNOCKING SOUND BUT I HAD NO INDICATOR LIGHTS TO WARN ME TO SERVICE IT OR DO ANYTHING. LAND ROVER SERVICED MY VEHICLE AND DID WARN ME OR MAKE THE REPAIRS. WARRANTY IS OUT. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AT OVER $100,000 TO HAVE ENGINE PROBLEMS AFTER ONLY 8 YEARS IS ROBBERY!

THERE IS A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IN THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. A PRIVATE MECHANIC SAID THE 2011 MODELS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE GAS TANKS.

THE CAR WAS LEAKING GASOLINE. LIKE ANOTHER COMPLAINT ON THIS SITE AND OTHERS ON THE INTERNET, A PLASTIC FLANGE ON THE FUEL PUMP CRACKS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NO IDEA OF THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM BECAUSE LEAKING FUEL IS UNSAFE AND CAN CAUSE A CATASTROPHIC FIRE, EXPLOSION AND LOSS OF LIFE.

WHEN I'M DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON IT'S OWN TO 100MPH+ THEN IT CUTS OFF.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE REAR ROOF SPOILER FLEW OFF AND HIT THE CAR BEHIND ME. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THIS PROBLEM TO BE COMMON. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE A FLAT TIRE USING THE FACTORY SUPPLIED VEHICLE JACK, THE JACK FELL OVER AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO FALL, PINNING MY HAND IN BETWEEN THE SPARE TIRE AND THE REAR LEFT FENDER. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED. MY HAND WAS PINNED FOR ABOUT 3-5 MINUTES BEFORE MY SON AND A GOOD SAMARITAN WERE ABLE TO LIFT THE VEHICLE OFF OF MY HAND. I LATER HAD X-RAYS DONE, WHICH WERE NEGATIVE. MY HAND WAS CUT AND BRUISED, SO I DID HAVE TO GET A TETANUS SHOT.

SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED SPONTANEOUSLY SENDING FRAGMENTS OF METAL AND PIECES OF PLASTIC INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. THE CAR WAS DRIVING AT 16 MPH ON A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WHEN MY SUNROOF EXPLODED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOT GUN WENT OFF IN MY CAR AND SCARED ME SO BAD I NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I LITERALLY THOUGHT I WAS BEING SHOT AT. IT TOOK ME A SECOND TO REALIZE WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I LOOKED AROUND AND THERE WAS GLASS ALL OVER MYSELF (DRIVER), AND THE FRONT SEATS. MOST OF THE GLASS LANDED IN MY CHILD'S CAR SEAT ON THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE. THANKFULLY HE WASN'T IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. I THOUGHT AT FIRST IT WAS A ROCK THAT BOUNCED OFF THE GLASS ON THE SUNROOF, BUT THERE WAS NOT A MARK ON THE ROOF OF THE CAR. I FILED AN INSURANCE CLAIM AND THEY ARE REPAIRING IT THIS COMING SATURDAY. IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE SHUT THE SUNROOF COVER TO MAKE SURE GLASS ISN'T COMING THROUGH THE CAR.

IN SEPTEMBER, 2014 TIRES WAS REPLACE INCORRECT TIRES ON VEHICLE CONTACTED THE DEALER FOR REMEDY. IN AUGUST 2015 TRANSMISSION FAULT LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF CONTACTED THE DEALER FOR REMEDY. IN SEPTEMBER 2015 TRANSMISSION FAULT LIGHT CAME ON MULTIPLE TIMES CONTACTED THE DEALER FOR REMEDY. IN OCTOBER 2015 TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON MULTIPLE TIMES CONTACTED THE DEALER FOR REMEDY. CHICCO KEYFIT 30 BASE KEEPS COMING LOOSE. I'VE HAD THE INSTALLER COME OUT AT LEAST THREE TIMES TO INSTALL AND RETIGHTEN THE BASE. FINALLY WE RESORTED TO USING LOCKING CLIPS INSTEAD OF THE LOCKING MECHANISM ON THE BASE, WHICH HAS SPRUNG. I HAVE PICTURES IF NEEDED. *TR

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE STRAIGHT ON A 2 LANE ROAD, SUDDENLY HAD TO SWERVE LEFT TO AVOID A CAR COMING OUT OF A PARKING LOT WITHOUT LOOKING - AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING THE POWER STEERING TOTALLY FAILED - AND I COULD NOT PULL THE HEAVY TRUCK BACK INTO THE LANE - AND ALMOST HAD A HEAD ON COLLISION!! MORE DISTURBING IS THE FACT THAT UPON INSPECTION, LAND ROVER AND THE LOCAL DEALER, LAND ROVER MAIN LINE IN PA, ADMITTED THIS HAPPENED TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER - BUT HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS HAPPENED AND CAN NOT ASSURE THAT IT IS REPAIRED!!! THIS IS A DANGEROUS ISSUE! THERE MAY BE OTHER UNSUSPECTING DRIVERS ON THE ROAD IN 2011 RANGE ROVERS WHO MAY HAVE A HEAD ON COLLISION IF THIS HAPPENS TO THEM BECAUSE THE WHEEL IS VERY, VERY HEAVY TO TURN WITHOUT THE POWER ASSIST STEERING - AND - WHEN NOT EXPECTING THAT SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER ASSIST - THE RECIPE FOR DANGER IS HEIGHTENED! *TR

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT SPEED, THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A COMPLETE POWER FAILURE. THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, THE DASHBOARD WENT DARK, AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED CAUSING ME TO SWERVE PARTIALLY OUT OF MY LANE (I WAS ON A CURVE). THE POWER THEN CAME BACK ON AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT (N/A). WHILE THE CONTACT WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP, HE NOTICED SMOKE AND A STRONG BURNING ODOR. THE CONTACT INSPECTED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD WITH THE GEAR PLACED IN PARK AND THE ENGINE IN OPERATION. THERE WERE SMALL FLAMES ERUPTING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF IMMEDIATELY AND THE FLAMES WERE NO LONGER VISIBLE. THERE WAS NO PERSONAL INJURY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,200. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
