Vehicle message states Stop safely vehicle will shut off soon
After replacing both batteries in my jeep compass 2019. The “Stop safely vehicle will shut down” message kept coming on. In traffic the car shut off completely and wouldn’t start. This is a reoccurring issue and jeep doesn’t care. It needs to be fixed. To shut off completely during driving is a safety hazard!!!
It appears to be the Body Control Module that gave out. While driving home in the evening from work, the vehicle stopped accelerating beyond 20 mph. Further, the passenger windows stopped working, as did exterior tail, emergency, and turn signal lights. The dealer was unable to directly confirm that the BCM was the problem, however, it was confirmed the problem was not fuse, battery, or engine related. No inspection of the component or vehicle to date. No warning lamps or messages appeared. It was raining outside, the vehicle started as normal, and moved as normal for approximately five minutes, then suddenly the vehicle stopped accelerating forward placing myself and others in harm's way.
-Vehicle would not start several times, this occurred just after purchasing, then battery was replaced and it occurred again over the course of 8 months. -A few days ago after getting the jeep to start, the RPM would not go >2 and the speed would not increase >20 MPH. This happened on PA220 with speed limit of 40MPH causing a near-wreck when pulling out onto the road and not being able to accelerate to the flow of oncoming traffic. My 6 year old child was in the vehicle with me. -Yesterday I stopped for gas & turned the engine off, then it would not start up again. Another person used their vehicle to jumpstart the jeep with jumper cables. The dash showed there was a “coolant issue” and to check the engine. The jeep was inspected today and serviced with no issues to the battery, it was not the cause. -Previously on multiple occasions the front screen for the radio would not turn on, has glitched and flickered, would not connect to cords plugged in for carplay, chargers will not charge the phone/connect inconsistently (multiple different chargers, worked in other vehicles/outlets), screen would be black but radio would play and unable to turn off/adjust the volume, screen “buttons” will not work/respond to touch often. I have video of this happening, unable to upload footage to this complaint. Can provide if necessary. -Per the service dept at Tyrone Ford Dealership, the O2 sensor is on along with several other codes regarding this issue. This is a manufacturer’s defect, not a user error. It is a safety concern and is not something the consumer should be held accountable to pay for/fix. This is poor craftsmanship on Jeep’s part and needs resolved on their dime, not a single mother’s.
I was driving home from work and stopped at the stoplight. When the light turned green, I tried to accelerate and the engine stalled. The service engine, electronic throttle control and the stop/start system warning lights all came on. I waited a few minutes and restarted the engine.
I was driving to work at about 4:30am and was stopped at a stoplight. When the light turned green I tried to accelarate and the engine stalled. The engine temperature warning light came on. I waited a few minutes and the vehicle started right up.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while reversing from the driveway, the back-up camera failed to operate normally. The Uconnect system became disabled, which caused other navigational functions to fail to operate as needed. No warning light was illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to update the software, but at the owner's expense. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
GOING INTO A TURN OIL LIGHT FLASHED BRIEFLY AND CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN MID TURN THIS HAPPEND 2 TIMES IN A MONTH I HAVE PREVIOUSLY LOGGED A COMPLAINT WHERE THE START STOP DID A SIMILAR SHUTDOWN IN MIDDLE OF DRIVING THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS THE ISSUE IS ALL OVER THE FORUMS ON JEEP SOMEONE WILL DIE AS A RESULT OF THIS AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ITS A REAL LIFE SAFTEY ISSUE!!!
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized, and the parking brake independently activated. No warning lights were illuminated. While attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was restarted after several attempts. The failure had occurred while the [XXX] was an occupant of the vehicle. The failure reoccurred. While attempting to start the vehicle, the battery warning light illuminated; however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with PCM failure. The contact was informed that the PCM needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure was a known failure with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. 2019 jeep compass, 65k miles Car started having misfires while accelerating and decreasing speeds. It stayed pretty consistent at all speeds! Shortly after the car overheated and stated coolant temperature too high. Had it diagnosed and it was confirmed oil is mixing in with the coolant meaning blown head gasket and more than likely engine rebuild/new engine. All regular maintenance has ALWAYS been done. It is absolutely unacceptable that so many people are reporting this same exact issue and nothing is being done. Every other comment is someone stranded or the vehicle has shut off while driving, for the ones whose engine hasn’t failed they are on the verge of doing so. The investigation into this needs to be reopened, how is this not a major safety concern with an obvious engine defect. Is it gonna take several bad accidents, or worse a death ? This needs to be addressed immediately.
Rear back up camera goes to blue screen randomly. Uconnect system frequently freezes and is unresponsive. It has in the past attempted to dial 911 and I couldn't cancel it . It did not go through because my phone is not connected but it is still an issue.
While driving my Jeep Compass's emergency parking brake engaged on its own. I thought I was hit by another vehicle since it was so abrupt. I was able to disengage it after several minutes and as I turned my hazards on and drove home, the emergency brake engaged again on its own. This was a major safety issue and after getting the vehicle home, I was able to call and get it into a mechanic who was unable to find a code stored for the issue. He recommended I take it to a Jeep Dealership as they have softwares to run for the computer. The jeep dealership only was able to locate a code to replace the starter and replaced the starter but are unable to determine the issue for the e brake, unable to duplicate it, and are unable to tell me the Jeeps emergency brake won't turn on again on its own. I reached out to Jeep Cares on a jeep compass forum and was called by a representative who told me Jeep is aware of a rising number of people with the exact same issue as I stated.
My2019 Jeep Compass has a software problem with the radio in the dashboard. The screen is sometimes freezing.it is affecting my remote start, the screen turns black, then flashes vertical and horizontal lines.at times it shows octagon shapes ,altering settings, and losing all functionality.
I am submitting this formal complaint to report a serious and dangerous safety defect involving the auxiliary battery system in the 2019 Jeep Compass. Without sufficient warning, my vehicle suddenly lost power and shut down while driving in traffic due to auxiliary battery failure. This failure caused a loss of propulsion and significantly reduced vehicle control, leaving me vulnerable in active traffic with little to no time to safely react or pull over. This situation could easily result in a severe accident, serious injury, or loss of life. What makes this issue especially alarming is that this is not an isolated incident. There are thousands of documented complaints, forum posts, and consumer reports online describing the exact same failure pattern in the 2019 Jeep Compass. Many drivers report sudden stalling, warning lights appearing too late to prevent shutdown, and complete loss of power while driving at speed or in intersections. A vehicle that can unexpectedly stop in traffic due to a known battery system defect presents a catastrophic safety risk. The lack of adequate warning or fail-safe design places drivers, passengers, and surrounding motorists in immediate danger. This is particularly concerning given the widespread nature of the issue and the absence of an effective recall or permanent corrective action. Something must be done before someone is seriously injured or killed. I urge immediate investigation, accountability, and corrective measures- including a recall- before this defect results in a fatal accident. This defect undermines basic vehicle safety expectations and should be treated as a matter of urgency.
My vehicle has experienced multiple incidents of sudden engine shutdown while driving, accompanied by a dashboard warning stating “High Coolant Temperature.” These shutdowns occur without warning and while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in loss of engine power and creating a dangerous situation in traffic. The error immediately goes away making it difficult to record in enough time. Authorized repair centers have been unable to recreate the issue due to no fault codes present
My Jeep says it’s going to shutdown to pull over somewhere and cut off car. If we pull over in time, restarting car has solved problem until next time it decides to occur. Multiple times the car has shut off with me driving down road and I have no control over the vehicle. Plugged up at O’Rileys and AutoZone. Diagnostic referred to voltage surge with battery and the ABS. I took it to a local mechanic that has a higher quality diagnostic machine. It won’t recognize my Jeep. We tried it multiple times on two different days.
Three times since 8/2025 the vehicle flashed a “coolant temperature too high” warning despite the gauge reading normal and no check engine light. Coolant reservoir was at appropriate line. This immediately caused the vehicle to enter limp mode after idling in the drive thru. The vehicle remained in drive with full power but would not allow me to drive or shift to park until i turned the vehicle off. It would restart and allow me to drive. The 4th incident happened 12/13/25. I was at a red light, idling, and when green light came my vehicle flashed the coolant temperature warning and would not allow me to drive. I was stuck in traffic for 5 mins and had to shut my car off to be able to drive. Thankfully in this situation the person behind me was paying attention and did not slam into me. I recently had the main battery replaced. On my way home last night the warning flashed and my car abruptly went into limp Mode while I was actively driving in busy traffic. Thankfully it did not stall and I was able to turn right into a business parking lot. The last two situations could have resulted in accidents and / or injuries and should not be looked over.
There is a large system failure in the Jeep Compass, in which the oil is getting mixed with fluid, causing the transmission fluid to become like chocolate milk. This failure is all in the way the vehicle is manufactured that it causes damage to both the transmission and engine costing approximately more than 14k in repairs. The problem has been confirmed at a dealership, as well as too other 2019-2020 Jeep Compass owners and Jeep has done nothing. It is a safety issue as the vehicle stopped in the middle of the fwy, and needed to be towed. All oil changes and maintenance done at dealership on time and nothing was ever caught, was told this is a common problem for this year's models. A warning lamp popped up the same day I had an oil change appointment. It has not been inspected as no one seems to care to help. I was even charged for the oil change that I didnt get and was never refunded. Car is still not drivable as no repairs have fixed issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine overheated, and the coolant hot warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that on several occasions, the vehicle was pulled over and allowed to cool down, and then coolant was added. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that a cylinder had failed, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 141,000.
my daughter hit a deer and had her 3year old daughter in the back seat and the seat belt come unhooked my grandbaby could have gotta hurt
The Electric throttle body malfunctioned and as a result the vehicles battery completely died, the vehicle was reported not going over 45mph and the break pedal was not going down and not starting the vehicle. After vehicle was stated "it felt unsafe to drive", the problem was confirmed by a vehicle code scanner. Dashboard was lit up like a Christmas tree.
Car will intermittently get a message saying coolant temp high and the vehicle completely shuts down. It takes about 30 seconds before it is able to be restarted and is able to drive again. It appears to be related to the start/stop feature, because that is the only time we see it. It can happen within one mile of driving from home, so the vehicle isn't even up to full temperature. I have replaced both the primary and AUX batteries, the issue remains. The coolant level is fine. I took it to the dealer a couple weeks ago and they found no trouble and did a coolant flush, but the issue happened again today. My main issue with this is that the vehicle is my [XXX] daughters car and I don't want something to happen when she is on a busy road with drivers going 50 mph or more. I have read online and it looks like several people are experiencing this problem. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On several occasions, the check engine light comes on, the temperature gauge goes all the way up and it states “coolant temperature too high” before the car powers off. I had taken the car to a mechanic who said that it was a sensor issue and replaced the sensor. It has continued to happen on a regular basis while I’m driving. I have contacted Jeep and have an Appointment for them to “assess” the car. This is beyond dangerous, has happened while driving on the highway, and I see that it’s happened to other compass owners as well. Something needs to be done to address this before someone gets killed
Touch Screen radio is selecting items on its own including altering vehicle settings and making phone calls.
Without warning the vehicle lost power while driving and stopped completely. After waiting a few minutes I was able to get it started again.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the U-Connect system touch screen had been engaging vehicle functions unintendedly. The contact stated that the system engaged the heating system, the braking mode system, and other unknown functions while driving. The message "Unable to Engage Service Brake Mode While Driving" was displayed. The dealer was notified of the failure, but the contact was unable to schedule a service appointment because the call was disconnected. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the vehicle lost power with the check engine and fuel warning lights illuminated. The engine failure, check engine, transmission, engine oil, and alignment messages were displayed. Additionally, the doors locked and unlocked, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode and then stalled. The vehicle was restarted after 30 minutes, and on the second failure, the vehicle restarted in approximately 10 minutes. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the Jeep dealer for assistance. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that there were multiple communication errors and that the software needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred a month later. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where the failure could not able to be replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,586.
When the auto shut off is engaged when I come to a stop light or stop sign the engine will shut off but will not restart. Have brought the car into the dealership and they say they can not recreate the issue. This is the fourth time this has happened with the car - I am reporting the most current event.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact stated that the sound increased while accelerating to 25 MPH. The contact decelerated to 15 MPH and drove to the residence, where the contact inspected underneath the vehicle. The contact stated that he was an independent mechanic and noticed that the frame was detaching from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000.
ABS light came on, took to mechanic, was advised he needed to order part, picked up vehicle while waiting for part to come in. While driving to work was using cruise control and put on my brakes and had no brakes, I ended up rear ending into another vehicle. Causing extensive damage to my car.
My 2019 Jeep Compass (VIN: omitted per instructions) experienced a serious powertrain issue where coolant leaked into the transmission, causing overheating and vehicle failure. The car became inoperable without warning at 74,000 miles. There were no prior signs or symptoms. A certified Jeep dealership confirmed a mechanical failure involving a faulty internal part that allowed transmission fluid and coolant to mix. Jeep denied full coverage despite it being a known issue among other owners. This is a significant safety risk, especially if the vehicle were to fail while driving. I am the original owner and the vehicle has been well-maintained with no accidents. A case was filed with Jeep, and a partial repair discount was offered, but the out-of-pocket cost is still unaffordable. This defect needs to be addressed as it renders the vehicle unreliable and unsafe.
Whining noise coming from the front passenger side (POWER TAKEOFF UNIT). Raises rpm’s and makes noise at around 50 mph.
traveling approximately 45-50 mph on two lane road (speed limit 55...had just accelerated from a 4 way stop) I had only been on the road leaving my residence for about 7 minutes. the display showed the temperature gauge rise all of the way to the top, the error message stating "high coolant temperature' (along those lines) and the car jerked enough to cause a decrease in speed. I was almost rear ended. This is a dangerous issue. Ive looked at several forums where they were reported (hopefully to NHTSA as well) to dealers and they had not found a reason yet. batteries (aux and regular) were replaced last fall. PLEASE tell me it wont take someone getting seriously injured for something to be done.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the air bag warning light illuminated. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 109,387.
Subject: Safety Complaint – Brake Sensitivity Causing Driver Injury (2019 Jeep Compass) Vehicle Info: •Year/Make/Model: 2019 Jeep Compass Latitude •Mileage: 79,119 •VIN: [XXX] ⸻ Complaint Summary: I am submitting this complaint due to a persistent and potentially dangerous issue with my 2019 Jeep Compass. The brake pedal is excessively sensitive, engaging abruptly with minimal pressure. This behavior has remained consistent since I purchased the vehicle certified pre-owned. Over the past year and a half, I have experienced increasing pain in my right knee from frequent driving. I believe this is due to repetitive strain caused by the unnatural effort required to gently brake in this vehicle. I have reported this issue at every service visit, but the dealership has dismissed it as “normal.” I am currently pursuing medical evaluation and have submitted a formal complaint to Jeep requesting a full brake diagnostic and written report. I am filing this complaint to document what I believe is a design or calibration flaw that poses an ergonomic and long-term health risk to drivers. I pulled into a parking space, shifted the Jeep from drive to park and the drivers side curtain airbag deployed. The Jeep was parked and not moving.
Vehicle: 2019 Jeep Compass Mileage (approx): 84,000 miles Issue Type: RANDOM - Electrical failure causing loss of power, brake lock, steering disablement Car is currently at an auto electric shop but can be available if needed. Description of Issue: I’ve been experiencing a recurring and dangerous issue with my 2019 Jeep Compass since around 2021. Every 6–8 months (sometimes more frequently), the vehicle suddenly lights up with every warning signal (check engine, brakes, power steering, airbag, traction, ABS, etc.). The brakes lock up, the power steering shuts down, and the car either dies immediately or will not restart for hours or even days. The issue is completely random and happens whether the car is driving or idling. There’s no apparent correlation with temperature, mileage, or usage. It happens when I'm at a red light, parked and my last incident happen the highway with both my boys in the car. (age [XXX] and [XXX] ) I’ve taken the car to the dealership a couple times, including having it towed in when it would not start. However, by the time they inspect it, the car resets itself, and I’m told they “can’t find the problem.” They’ve held it for weeks without results. This issue is not only unpredictable but highly dangerous. Losing steering and braking while on the road creates serious safety risks for myself, my family, and other drivers. From my own research and symptoms, this could be related to the TIPM or BCM malfunctioning — both of which I’ve read are common in Jeep models. Please investigate this issue, as it appears systemic and unresolved through regular service channels. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Batteries are constantly draining causing multiple failures with no warning such as hill assist, traction control, abs, steering, brake, 4 wheel drive and turn signal lights. I have had to replace both batteries every year since purchasing the vehicle. Date is happened is the most recent event. This happens yearly. The car will start violently shaking and loud clunking
This has happened three times in the last 4 months. There is no pattern, rhyme, or reason to understand why this happens. Today, while driving on the interstate at approximately 60mph, My 2019 Jeep Compass (80k miles) jerked violently and displayed the “Engine Coolant Temp High” warning message while the temperature gauges spiked. I coasted off to the shoulder. This could have caused an accident.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the rearview camera displayed an image while the vehicle was in reverse(R); however, after the contact had shifted to drive(D), the rearview camera image was still displayed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I’ve been experiencing persistent issues with my car’s coolant system. In January, they replaced the hose connected to the coolant reservoir, but within 30 days, I received another overheating warning. When I brought the car back, I was told that the coolant reservoir needed to be replaced, and now I’m facing the same problem for the third time. This situation raises serious safety concerns because my car isn’t alerting me when it’s overheating. It appears that either the thermostat is faulty or it wasn’t properly replaced and checked during the repair. I requested to speak with a manager to escalate the issue, but they refused to provide any contact information.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that a message that the coolant level was high was displayed on the instrument panel and immediately after the message was displayed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. Additionally, the windows failed to open and close, the doors failed to lock and unlock, and there were other unstated electrical malfunctions. The contact coasted over to the side of the road and turned off and restarted the vehicle several times for the vehicle to operate as needed. The failure was intermittent but had occurred approximately 12 times. The dealer was contacted; however, the contact had not received a callback. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
The car flashed an error code "Coolant temp too high" and the engine shut down while I was entering the parking lot of my son’s school. The car froze up, but then turned itself back on. The coolant temperature was normal. I’ve been terrified to drive ever since.
The car flashed an error code "Coolant temp to high" and shut the engine down while I was entering the on ramp to the expressway. The car stalled in the middle of the lane. The coolant temp was normal and not high. I was able to restart the car and had no issue for rest of the drive. I checked my coolant levels and everything is normal. This again happened the next day in my neighborhood thankfully. The code flashed and the engine immediately shut down. There was little to no time to react. My fear is this will happen again when my daughter is driving.
every time i turn on the car the parking brake is on and it also turns on while im driving and it causes the car to stall while in motion.
I was driving normally down the street and the car suddenly shut itself off and a warning light came up that said something like "coolant high" and then it lost all power. after 5-10 seconds, everything came back on as normal. this has happened approximately 20 times in the last 2 years. I took it to the Jeep dealership and they tried to pull codes to see what was happening and they state that they cannot figure out what is wrong with it because it is not pulling any codes for that.
Steering wheel feels like is almost completely detached. Every time we turn it sounds like it will break. This car is only 72k miles and the steering wheel should be working properly. There is a recall for this same issue for Jeep Cherokees for the same year as my Jeep Compass. This is a safety issue and very expensive to repair. Please help!
I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2019 Jeep Compass, which suffered catastrophic engine failure at only 50,000 miles despite regular maintenance and timely oil changes. The vehicle has been well-maintained, with all scheduled oil changes performed on time using the recommended oil and filters. Despite this, the engine experienced a dropped cylinder, leading to total failure and requiring a full engine replacement. The manufacturer, Jeep (Stellantis), refuses to cover the repair, stating that the vehicle is just outside its 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty due to the time limit. However, engine failure at only 50,000 miles is highly premature and raises concerns about possible defects in the engine design, materials, or assembly. Given that many modern engines last well beyond 100,000 miles with proper maintenance, I believe this failure may indicate a widespread manufacturing defect that could pose safety risks to other Jeep Compass owners. If the engine fails unexpectedly, it could cause loss of power while driving, creating a serious hazard for drivers and passengers. I request that the NHTSA investigate whether other Jeep Compass owners have experienced similar premature engine failures and determine if this issue requires a recall, extended warranty coverage, or manufacturer accountability. Jeep should not be allowed to avoid responsibility for major engine failures in vehicles with such low mileage. Safety Concerns: •Unexpected engine failure can lead to sudden loss of power, increasing accident risks. •If this issue is widespread, other Jeep Compass owners could face similar failures without warning. •The manufacturer should be held accountable for defects leading to premature catastrophic failures. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue and determine if a recall or extended coverage program is warranted to protect consumers from unexpected and costly failures.
When I exited my car to enter my workplace on January 27, 2025, I noticed the radio had not turned off, which was unusual. I re-entered the car, turning the ignition on and off, hoping to shut the radio down. However, when I attempted to start the car, it made stalling noises, and would not turn on. After several attempts, the car turned on but the temperature gauge soared, and an error message about high coolant temperature appeared, causing the car to shut down immediately. I called my husband, who suggested waiting a few minutes before trying again. Fortunately, the car started, and I went into work, advised by my husband not to touch it until it was time to leave. Later, I drove directly to the Jeep dealership. Two days passed, and they dismissed the issue, unable to replicate it. Online research revealed this is a recurring problem with this model, raising my fears of the car shutting down unexpectedly in risky situations like driving on the highway.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the instrument cluster failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the instrument cluster displayed a black screen. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. In addition, the contact stated that the dealer had replaced the instrument cluster twice since the vehicle was purchased. The first instrument cluster replacement was in March 2022. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
My Uconnect screen has distortion and can't view rear camera when backing up. I feel this is a safety feature that many people are having since I see people trying to repair on the Interweb. I feel manufacturers should cover anything safety for an extended period compared to regular warranty items. Within a period of three weeks, I received two alarming messages that appeared suddenly on the dashboard, "Pull over now, engine will turn off soon." The first instance happened as I was driving on I-80 East going about 70 mph, while towing a teardrop trailer. Fortunately, there was a rest stop ahead and I was able to pull over safely. After 30-45 minutes, I turned the ignition on, the message wasn't there, so I was able to get back on the interstate and drive home. The second incident happened while I was exiting a parking lot, trying to merge onto the main thoroughfare. Had the car towed to Jeep dealership. Car would not start when tow truck driver was trying to remove car from tow bed. Tow truck driver used a portable battery charger to start engine up. Jeep dealership replaced the secondary battery that is connected to the start/stop feature, but when they test drove it, the car's power turned off again. Apparently, the main battery (which was replaced a month or so before by another company) was not installed properly. When that adjustment was corrected, the car was test driven a second time, and has been running fine. However, yesterday I read that 64,000 2017-2019 Jeep Cherokees are being recalled due to loss of power. It made me question whether the battery issue I experienced is really the culprit of why my engine turned off or if there's something else that I should be aware of.
When starting my 2019 Jeep Compass an error message stated "coolant temperature high" and "service brake system." It then sputtered and shut down. I waited a minute and then restarted the vehicle. There was a lag for the car to start and then it went back to normal and no codes were present.
The radio became scrambled and it is malfunctioning. it puts others at risk due to rear camera not working control of heated seats and steering wheel ect. i have read multiple reports of others who have had the same issue
On 4 separate occasions over a 5 day period, the electronic parking brake system spontaneously engaged. This caused the vehicle to lose power and slow until it came to a complete stop/stall. The EPB indicator was displayed on the dash. I tried several courses of action to resolve the issue including putting the car in park, attempting to disengage the EPB as well turning the vehicle off and on again. This issue presents itself with no prior warning. Fortunately, I was not highway driving during any of the mishaps. I was able to coast to the side of the road or to a parking lot safely. This issue presents itself a dangerous issue that other Jeep Compass owners are also experiencing with seemingly no true resolve from the Jeep manufacturer.
Stopped at stoplight. Engine start/stop was selected on and stopped engine per usual. Released brake and engine didn’t restart leaving vehicle un-powered in traffic. Shifted to park. Let vehicle recycle on/off power a few times. Engine was able to be restarted several minutes later. This happened before ~1 year ago and dealer replaced aux battery and torque sensors but couldn’t replicate failure and never disclosed any actual fault found.
The screen that shows the radio, backup camera, car play etc is 2/3 blank. It has been going out for over a month but now is just out all together. I did grow up in the era where you didn't have backup cameras however the way these new cars are made and all the blind spots, it makes it more difficult to backup without the assistance of the rear view camera. I saw on the national news last week that Jeeps 2020 and newer were recalled but I believe the recall should also include 2019. When I googled it, you tube says the entire screen needs to be replaced which can cost at least $500.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while idling at a red traffic light, the Auto START/STOP system engaged, causing the parking brake to erroneously engage. The contact released the brake pedal, and the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact restarted the vehicle for the vehicle to respond as needed. The Auto START/STOP warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated while at a green traffic light, the parking brake unexpectedly engaged, and the vehicle failed to move. The contact restarted the vehicle, depressed the brake pedal, and released the parking brake. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The car caught fire due to the radio and my insurance company screwed me and I need to know what I can do to help me
I was driving my 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk and had just started to accelerate when my car showed a warning light for "High Coolant Temp." The car subsequently lost all engine power and immediately initiated my parking brake. The car was stopped in the middle of the roadway, posing a serious danger risk to myself and other drivers. Had this occurred 30 more feet, I would've been in the middle of a railway crossing. After a few seconds, the temperature indicator returned to normal, though the car still had no power. I had to restart my car two times, then the issue was temporarily resolved and I was able to drive back to my house.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the message that the electric parking brake was engaged, and to depress the brake pedal and to push the Push to Start button was displayed. The vehicle then stalled. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal and pushing the Push to Start button, the vehicle responded as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that the instrument panel lights, and the instrument cluster had become inoperable while driving. The contact stated that upon turning off and restarting the vehicle, the instrument panel lights, and the instrument cluster became operable. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that there was no failure was found. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.
I came to a stop for a red light at a hazardous intersection, and waited for the green arrow for my left turn. When the green arrow came I attempted to accelerate but the brakes locked and subsequently the vehicle began drifting into oncoming traffic. I lost power steering. I managed to stop it after getting out of the intersection by throwing the gear into park. The parking brake seemed to have been engaged by the stop/start system. Subsequent research on this issue revealed this is a recurring issue and especially with 2019 Compass, and people have experienced the stop start stalling their cars in highway traffic at speeds of 65 m.p.h. Obviously, this is a severe life threatening defect. Because this happened on a weekend, the mechanics have not yet evaluated the vehicle. Please have Jeep held accountable.
Every 3000 to 5000 miles the car jerks like the transmission is slipping, the coolant temperature warning sign comes on, and the car shuts off while driving. No warranty will fix the issue and it is very unsafe to have your car shut off while on the highway driving 70mph. This has happened several times. Jeep dealer will not fix
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that on several occasions while in reverse(R), the display screen failed to produce an image. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the main and AUX battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
The steering gear has failed and is making a popping noise every time you steer to the left or right. The steering gear has been recalled for certain models but not all, my car has the exact same issue but its not listed on the recall. This problem could lead to loss of steering and a crash per the Safety Recall V99/NHTSA 19V-637. The car has been inspected by a Jeep dealer and they confirmed the steering gear is the problem. The symptoms have been present for at least a year, and has been getting worse. I am concerned for my safety and I do not have to means to pay for this repair.
Stop/start stalling and shutting down at intersection. When lifting foot off the brake, vehicle may start up again just briefly but then stalls out. The vehicle has been stuck in traffic, at high risk for an accident. I have been successful in restarting the vehicle thus far to resume driving. Behavior can occur multiple times a day or once a week but it has been present for >2 yrs. Problem has been reported and inspected by local dealership but, per the dealership, unable to replicate on demand. Solution provided has been to replace both batteries but remedy is short lived. Dashboard error: Auto Stop/Start Not Ready/Unavailable . This error appears after the engine stop/start stalls and engine shutdown but goes away when car is restarted
The UConnect screen that comes with the Jeep Compass purchased and many other Jeep models during this time period has an apparent systematic lifetime problem. The vehicle has less that 40K miles on it and the screen started to appear discolored with lines distorting the images a couple of months ago, and would get progressively worse as the car heated up. The screen has gotten progressively worse to the point where it now does not display anything after ~30 seconds of being in the car. We are bringing the vehicle to a Jeep dealer today, but from looking online this seems like a very prevalent issue with Jeep Compasses and Jeep models. Without the screen, several safety features and namely the requirement of a backup camera display are completely unavailable.
I Just left the dealer regarding a wiper related recall and my wipers continue to malfunction. They turn on intermittently. When I slow down and then begin to accelerate the wiper system turns on. I have video after leaving the dealership that performed the recall. *I'm not able to upload video here. Also note: The recall was out during covid, which at the time I could not take in, and 1-2 years after covid aftermath, I forget about any letters for a recall. Had I done the recall repair then I might not be having this issue which may have progressed and now I'm out of warranty (?) I just don't think it's fair. The recall is wiper related. How can they not offer to fix it 100%. Had the recall not addressed "wiper" malfunction then I could see not arguing. I believe this recall is related somehow. Is it a safety concern? You bet it is. My engine power flickers. I could be in a risky situation crash and now Chrysler- Jeep risks a multi million dollar law suit. I have video. Who can I send this to?
screen for climate control, radio, rearview Camara doesn't work
The vehicle will randomly show a coolant warning temperature light, then suddenly the engine will turn of. The car must be completely turned off to start it again. This happens when the car is not hot, there is plenty of coolant etc. When this happens the fobs also will not work. It has happened 4 times the last two weeks. My safety was put at risk because I was in the middle of driving when my car died in the middle of the road. Yes the vehicle was inspected and the batteries were replaced. The issue was not reproduced when it was in the shop.
I was taking my jeep through an an automated car washe and the car engine turned off. The car was in neutral and when I was supposed to drive the car away at the end of the wash, it would not let me put the car in drive. Somehow I got the car restarted after several attempts and was able to put the car in drive before the car behind me hit me.
High coolant temp warning lights spike for about 2-3 seconds and the car powers down but does regain power when the coolant temp light goes off. We have replaced the coolant sensor and flushed everything and replaced the pcm 2 times. Still the same problem. A safety issue as you lose power when this happens. Service was all done at an authorized Jeep dealership. The majority of the time this happens is during a turn. Today I lost power on a turn with oncoming car. We have spent $1400 trying to repair the problem with new replacements and the problem remains. The car is available for inspection. No advance warning when this happens. The last incident date happened August 29, 2024
The vehicle intermittently has issues starting .. if the automatic start/Stop isn’t disengaged you get stuck at stop signs/ stop lights . I have repaired everything I can think of when it comes to this issue . I turned to the internet for more ideas/ootions … turns out there is sooooooo many more jeeps especially the compass that have the same issue … how can this not have a recall … my kid who is only 16 and just got his license almost got rear ended at an intersection because the car shut off and wouldn’t start … he had to wait over 10 minutes before it started again so he could move the car .. it has been to the garage many times and not one can pin point what the issue is .. I just get told it’s a jeep thing ! I’m afraid to shut my car off when I stop at the store or bank … if I know I’m going to be somewhere for a while I have to ask for a ride because I don’t know if my car will start … i have to try to start my car way before I need to , to give it time to “Reset” then it will start …
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The coolant temperature warning light was illuminated. In addition, the contact stated the steering wheel seized and the vehicle became difficult to steer. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but the failure could not be replicated. The local dealer informed the contact that the coolant temperature warning light was inaccurately illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,800.
The auto shut off function while stopped has malfunctioned on a couple occasions. One was when stopped at a red light. The car would not start up again when letting off the gas. The vehicle was new to me and I didn't know how to fix the problem. Sitting there, even with hazards on, is dangerous as I could have been rear ended while trying to figure this out. I ended up having to restart the vehicle. I can disable the function, but I believe it is causing starter issues with the vehicle. The vehicle intermittently will not start right away, and finally will after several attempts. All possible problems that could cause the start issue have been tested by mechanics at an auto shop. All of which were eliminated. There are no warning lights that have come on when either of these things happen. The vehicle is available for inspection, if requested.
I bought the car [XXX] they would not let me take the car home until [XXX]. I have had a problem with it ever since. Airbag system light keeps coming on, passenger seat does not work properly, car is hesitant to start or accelerate at times, cuts and have to restart at times, brakes grinding and squealing . I have taken it back to them several times and they refuse to exchange or fix the problems I was told I should use my warranty to have it fixed I even took it to one of their other dealerships in Irving and they refuse to fix it. A knocking noise has slowly come into play from the hood of my 2019 Jeep Compass. With some research, it appears to be the front driver’s side axle causing this noise while in operation. The knocking sound is caused by the CV joint at the end of the cv axle shaft. As the cv joint wears down, it becomes less able to absorb shock and vibrations. If I were to continue driving with a damaged CV, the joint will disintegrate further, making driving impossible. I will not be able to control the vehicle and may get involved in an accident. This issue is out of my control unless I simply don’t drive it. This is also a stock part that wasn’t expected to need replacing within 5 years of having the vehicle. My current mileage is roughly 76,000 miles to which I don’t drive more than I need to.
The motor is constantly burning oil between oil changes it takes 5.5 quarts on an oil change when the oil is changed I get less than 4 quarts out of the oil pan and this time the oil light came on and I checked the oil level and it was about 4 quarts low and I have the oil changed every 5,000 miles like the manufacture recommends I have read multiple complaints online that this is a known issue with the jeep compass and other vehicles with the 2.4 multiair engine in them
When filling the gas tank and it gets near full, the gas will splash back onto the side of the car, the ground and can get on my clothes, shoes, etc. Jeep vehicles have a long history of this specific problem. No recalls for this VIN. Please help. This is dangerous and scary. It happens every time I fill the tank.
Car continuously shows multiple codes (10+)then won’t shift to neutral or drive and car won’t even turn off. Has happened multiple times with no resolution various codes (dynamic tourque steering, service hill holder , service 4WD, service transmission, anti lock brake system fail, fuel service cut off, U1110, speed control fail, and multiple others
In February I took my car for an oil change. I went out of town and when I returned my car would not start. I replaced my key fob battery and I charged the battery because a jump did not work. Once battery was charged we were able to get my car to turn on. I took the car for battery testing at auto zone and nothing came back. I took the car to the dealership (Jeep Dealer) they said both batteries were original and needed to be replaced. I paid for both to be replaced. A few days later I was driving m, came to a stop light and when the light turned green I went to press the gas the car dashboard glitched and turned completely off I was in the middle of the road. I started the car back up and called the dealer immediately and took it in for service. The dealer said it was a reset that needed to be done and computer update. A few days later my car did the same thing only this time it gave a few messages on the dashboard and I was able to turn it back on. The deal ship kept my car for a couple more days. The did more updates and returned the car. I had no issues for a few weeks with turning off however when I turn the car on it would glitch as if it did not want to start. Also, the start/stop feature stopped working completely. One morning I started my car on my way to take my child to daycare the car glitched again but turned on I drove maybe 500ft and I got a message on the dashboard “stop safely vehicle will turn off soon” I pulled over and turned the car off and back on the message was gone. A month later I got the same message but I kept driving and nothing happened. A week later I drove to drop off my child, the car was off completely and moments later when I returned the car would not start the radio dashboard lights all turned on and I could hear the car trying to start but it did not. AAA came to assist jumping my vehicle and I was able to drive the car to the same dealership. They kept the car for a week and found nothing.
I was driving into a busy intersection and briefly stopped. When I took my foot off the brake to go, the car completely froze. The brake pedal was hard and the steering wheel was locked. The lights were on, however I couldn't turn the car off to restart it. It would not move. A police officer had to push the car over to the side. After waiting a while (25 minutes) for the tow truck, I was able to turn the car off. The car was towed to the nearest mechanic, but he can't find anything wrong with it. Despite, hundreds of online complaints about this same thing happening to Jeep Compasses, Jeep will not take a look at it unless I pay $490 for a diagnostic test. I already had to pay for the towing and a mechanic to look at it. Jeep Chrysler needs to recall these cars before someone is killed.
Car stopped in the middle of an intersection, and a ton of dash lights came on. Did this about 2 times x Brought it to Jeep dealership and they said that the diagnostic is coming back that everything is fine with the vehicle. I see a lot of jeep compasses are doing this and i need whatever the issue is to be resolved with a recall or something to prevent this from happening to other and get this issued solved immediately. I’ve been to jeep and NOTHING.
Vehicle randomly blinks coolant too hot, locks up and shuts down. All fluids are full and there is no reason for the warming. Has happened backing out of the driveway, going slow, and on the freeway. Very dangerous
It is not allowing me to check everything but the bottom line is this. It is highly inappropriate to know that there were three recalls on this vehicle it says 2 were completed there were investigations done and I do not have the ability to view them as a consumer especially whrn I was trying to buy it and now when I am trying to find out if it is related to a problem I am having. I need the full detailed list. I have asked the dealership and not received the documentation, please provide them. Thank you. I was traveling from Dallas to Austin for a wedding on [XXX], going the speed limit I notice my car begins to decelerate, I would put my foot on the gas and the car wouldn't speed up, I just kept hearing my engine rev up. In addition to that, a bunch of symbols, notifications and noises started alarming and going off on my dash, it seemed like every symbol on the dash popped up. Trying to prevent an accident while having a panic attack, I had barely enough time to switch lanes and pull over while still on this dangerous highway. Once I stopped the vehicle, the brake became hard to push with my foot and the dash continued to go crazy blinking on and off. After an hour or so, the car started acting fine. I eventually got back home and took it to Jeep in Frisco, TX, and they "repaired" my vehicle they replaced my auxiliary battery and the main battery. I got the car from the shop and it was fine. 2 months later, it happened again! My car slowed down while I was on the highway and this time I couldn't pull over to safety, so I put my hazards on and just prayed I wouldn't get hit and called for a tow truck. After doing some research I'm not the only jeep owner who has had this issue, others have experienced the same thing. Ultimately this is a Jeep issue. My car is basically a death trap, and I lost my job because I lost my reliable means of transportation! My car is currently sitting out front collecting dust, I don't have the money to gamble on what the mechanics THINK is the issue, they can't figure it out! I don't want the vehicle! after making a left turn, the engine shut off, an alert on the dashboard read the coolant temperature was too high. Then a second later the coolant alarm went away, the temperature gauge dropped back to normal and the engine started back up. This happened too fast to be an actual problem with the coolant temperature. It happened as described here: [XXX] If this had happened 3 seconds sooner, I would have been stuck in traffic while making a left turn. I'm a little shocked NHTSA has precluded this is not a dangerous issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
High Coolant temperature notice code is thrown causing to lose all power to engine even though the vehicle is not overheating. I am put at risk because while traveling my jeep loses all power and someone could run into the back of my vehicle when traveling down the road.
The Uconnect screen has a black line on majority of the screen- happened occasionally at first, then every other time I started the vehicle, and now every time. I am unable to use the screen due to the malfunction which means I cannot use the back up camera, see the maps on the screen for navigation, or control heating/temp including defrost due not being able to see the screen which I feel are all safety issues to both myself and other drivers. So far an independent service center is running diagnostics- and no warning signs.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at various speeds and turning, the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the front driver's side and passenger's side control arms were fractured, and the inner and outer tie rod had failed. The mechanic determined that the parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
Car stalls while driving. While car is in drive it will stall and steering becomes limited. Works again once car is restarted.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-30 MPH, the vehicle went into anti-theft mode and stalled in the middle of the road. The ABS warning light and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was unable to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to a parking lot. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated, and the contact was informed that the battery was low. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving 65-75 MPH. The vehicle was towed to a second dealer, Preston Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM of Wilmington (3807 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808), where both batteries were replaced, and the electrical system was reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred 12 days later. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after 10-15 minutes, and the contact drove to the residence. The vehicle was taken to a third dealer, Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Baltimore (124 North Point Blvd, Baltimore, MD 21224), where it was diagnosed and determined that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist due to the mileage on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 127,000.
My engine has killed 3 times while in motion but coming to a stop. I get an alert that the coolant temp is too hot and the engine immediately shuts off while everything else (radio, lights, etc.) remains on. After I put the vehicle in park and shut it off, I'm able to restart it right away and the coolant temp is completely normal. I took the vehicle to a mechanic for a full diagnostic check and they said that this is a known issue with Jeep vehicles and that there's no known solution for it. This happens without warning and there are no alerts or error messages before the vehicle shuts off. Luckily, each time this has happened has been while I've been coming to a stop in a quiet residential area but my concern is that it could happen while I'm on a busy highway. Here is a link to the inspection report I got back from the mechanic: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
This 2019 Jeep Compass, has mixed the coolant and oil causing a blown head gasket, according to the dealership, it needs a new engine, and something that is too common on the Jeep Compass, as mine is shy over 8k it is not covered under warranty. No warning lights came on, no lights of high temperature in the transmission, oil or coolant. The car did stall in the middle of the road, causing risk for myself and the child I had in the car. As this is a common problem with the Jeep Compass, how is this major issue not a recall? Why is Jeep/ Chrysler waiting and endangering many of their consumers lives, and not fixing this issue??? The vehicle is available for inspection, with towing being invovled as I am terrified to drive this vehicle.
A few minutes into the drive, the “Coolant Temperature Too High” warning appeared on the dashboard screen and the temperature gauge shot all the up and then immediately all the way down before correcting itself. This occurred while accelerating after a turn.
The gear selection lights near the gear shift go on and off for no apparent reason. I can not see which gear I am in at night. I am afraid that this is indicative of a more serious electrical problem. I am still under warranty because I purchased Added Care Plus from directly from Jeep that covers me through the end of December 2024. I took the vehicle to Jeep Dealer CH Urness Motors in The Dalles, Oregon. The owner and service manager told me that my car "Is not broken enough" for them to repair. The owner, Tim Urness, stated that they only repair items with warning lights and that they do not honor the Added Care Plus warranties sold by Jeep dealers unless they've sold it. Additionally, my auto stop start battery is malfunctioning, and the engine is making a strange noise. Stellans Jeep Cares is not responding to my calls concerning the warranty or getting the car towed to a different dealer for service. I live in a rural area, so I will need to travel 200 miles round trip to have my car serviced and I have been advised that I will need to make the trip at least twice to have the car first diagnosed, then serviced. I know that NHTSA does not normally handle these sorts of problems, but it is a safety issue, also I would like direction on where to report the dealership and Stellantis for not making necessary safety repairs covered under warranty. I had a previous issue with the same car's seatbelt webbing and had to fight to get the repair made. Thank you
Temperature gauge spiked momentarily, the car lost power for 2 to 3 seconds, then restarted by itself. This occurred while driving at approx 10 mph. This is a very dangerous situation. I have read online that others have had similar issues, and that dealers cannot resolve it.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle independently turned off while the vehicle was idling. The contact shifted the gear shifter into park and then restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
engine is over heating and now the transmission is having problems its only 5 years old. My safety is important the car could have caught fire and it slowed down while i was on the highway that could get me in an accident
Screen went out but it works I am just unable to use the screen features and had to replace my start/stop battery in less than a year
Since I’ve had my car both batteries continue to fail (I’ve had them both replaced multiple times now). Also my display screen glitched for quite some time and now does not work at all, causing me to be unable to use my back up camera as well as my radio.
I bought this vehicle as a CPO. After a few months the vehicle was intermittently having issues with the start stop being disabled when using the remote start. Subsequently the vehicle wouldn’t engage to start without being powered back down and restarted which would reset the start stop as well. Last week I went to remote start the vehicle and everything cycled through like it would start but never turned over. Now the start stop is just disengaged. From reading the various forums on this vehicle the start stop is a common problem with no resolve.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH and slowing for traffic, the contact lightly depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle almost came to a complete stop. The contact stated that he observed that the brake service warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but was a recurring failure. Additionally, the contact stated that the parking brake had also stopped engaging and the "Service Electronic Parking Brake" illuminated and was constantly illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the rear calipers and actuators and the electronic parking brake system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V523000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The failure mileage was 21,722.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the message that “Vehicle Will Shut down - Please Pull Over" was displayed. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the auxiliary battery. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The contact stated while driving at 40 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to be restarted. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 22,000.
Complete vehicle shut down while driving. You can be driving and it shuts off on its own which is so dangerous almost caused A severe accident. Took to dealer prior nothing is wrong with any parts on my vehicle this is some malfunctioning with the design. I have a 2019 jeep compass Trailhawk. This is the 6th time doing this to me. After a few days it restarts with no issues.
The "coolant temperature too high" error message has flashed three times, the first on 10/22/2023, the second on 12/19/2023 and the third on 12/22/2023. In one instance the "service parking brake" error message flashed as well. This instance was four days after the vehicle passed the state safety inspection and the dealer made no notes of needed repairs to the brake system. Thankfully in all instances, the vehicle was parked and not in motion which prevented the cause of a safety issue to myself or other drivers on the road. The first time this occurred was after the vehicle had been parked overnight and for most of the next day whereas the last two were after short drives. There are no stored messages in the gauge cluster and no DTC codes when checking with a code reader via the OBDII port. I also checked the coolant level after each instance and the level was good each time. No other warning lamps, messages or symptoms happened prior to this message. I have not had the vehicle diagnosed by the dealer or an independent mechanic. I have seen this issue reported multiple times on Jeep forums and in all cases, the issue was never reproduced and best efforts were used to fix the issue but FCA has not been able to provide one. I have read that batteries, sensors, etc. have been replaced but the issue still remains. I came here today to report this, knowing that there was an open investigation but found that the investigation was closed in 12/2023. I felt that I should report my instances anyway in hopes that if I do and others also come forward that the investigation may be reopened. While no crash, fire, injury or fatality have been reported yet, there is a strong possibility that any of these could occur.
My vehicle randomly stopped on the freeway one morning. I had no warning signs or lights on at the moment. This has occurred for the second time in the past few months. I took it to the dealership, and they acted strange as if they did not want to be held responsible for diagnosing the vehicle. I took it to another mechanic, and he stated that the car has a major electrical issue. This is something extremely dangerous, not only to myself but to other drivers around me.
Car stalled out while idling at red light. Car had to be towed to dealer!!replaced battery !! Stalled again dealer said the cause was faulty door latches!! Car stalled again, had to be towed to dealer , kept for 5 days!! All codes cleared , incident never repeated!!!
Took it for regular maintenance and was told both batteries needed to be replaced. Replaced them a month later car wouldn’t start, got it to start and completely shut off while going 60 mph.
First my screen started glitching then went black, then about a week later car kept saying start/stop unavailable, then car decided it didn't want to start (not even after being jumped) I haven't had my vehicle not even 3 years yet and I'm still making payments on it.. but why all of a sudden is ir not starting? All I hear is a click when I try to start it.
Car jerks/bucks violently when accelerating, to the point of being unable to control steering and slamming me into steering wheel. This has happened numerous, numerous times. Was towed to dealership, who claimed it was a loose battery cable, charged me, and said it was good to go. The very same day I picked it up, it continues to do this, every time I drive it. It also will die completely and not restart when in park idling. This has happened at least 20x, which was also attributed to the loose cable. However it continues to do the exact same thing as before the dealership "fixed" it. I drive in the middle of nowhere, 40 miles to work in the early morning hours, making this especially unsafe as I have been stranded on a country road alone several times, which is highly unsafe as a female. I cannot continue to drive this as it is right now as I dont know when it may just stop running or not start, or start bucking violently causing me to crash or become injured. I do have videos of this happening several times over the course of less than two hours. There has also been a couple warning lights that have come on randomly (Electronic Throttle Control Warning Light, Electronic Stability Control Active Warning Light, Service Stop/Start Warning Light) and a message (Dynamic Steering Torque). I just bought this used from a dealership July 25, 2023. It is only December 26, 2023. I dont feel safe driving this vehicle and have given the dealership an opportunity to address and fix whatever may be causing it, to no avail. I do not wish to keep this vehicle, nor do I feel safe trusting in the dealership to make it a safe vehicle for me to continue to drive.
WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY JEEP JUST CUT OFF AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP, IT LOCKED UP EVERYTHING. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE HEARD OF THESE PROBLEMS, THEY TESTED EVERYTHING OUT AND SAID IT WAS POSSIBLY THE BATTERY, GOT THE BATTERY REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE, ONE WEEK LATER IT DID THE SAME THING WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT AND COULD NOT GET IT TO START, TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM, AFTER A WHILE IT STARTED BACK UP. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE EXPECIALLY WHEN I HAVE A ONE YR OLD CHILD THAT IS IN THE CAR WITH ME, HOW CAN I FEEL SAFE IN A CAR THAT IS GOING TO STOP SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC OR ON A HIGHWAY. NOONE SEEMS TO KNOW THE PROBLEM TO GET THIS FIXED SO I CAN DRIVE MY CAR SAFELY ON THE ROADS. VERY SCARY.
As I was exiting one interstate and merging onto another one the engine stalled. A message displayed telling me the cruise had shut off (my cruise was on but not in use when the engine stalled). This is the second time this has happened - both on the highway.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated and there was a thumping sound coming from the front-end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the auxiliary battery which reset the check engine warning light. The thumping noise coming from the front-end of the vehicle persisted. The vehicle was taken to another dealer who determined that the rack-n-pinon failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
UNKNOWN Was driving while decelerating when engine stuttered and emergency brake light came on. The car then stalled and would not restart until 3rd try. This is the second time this incident has happened.
The vehicle will be shut off via auto stop start system at a traffic light, I'll let off the gas and the vehicle will sometimes take several tries to start or totally stall out and have to be manually restarted, it's dangerous.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle was jerking while accelerating. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle had since failed to exceed 10 MPH while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that there was an unknown leak within the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
Multiple incidents over the last 5-7 weeks up to and including today 11/05/2023. When walking out and starting my Compass the engine/vehicle initially would not start. When initially pressing the start button all the dashboard lights, gauges and annunciators would illuminate but I would receive a “coolant temperature too hot” message on the dashboard and the car ultimately would not turnover and start but rather just shut down completely. Upon waiting a couple seconds I tried to start it again and this time it would start up just fine all normal without any messages on the dashboard. In other occurrences I’d receive multiple dashboard messages which included the ESS system but after turning off and trying to start again my Compass would not and I’d have to jumpstart the battery In order to successfully start the vehicle. From what I have researched and read on myjeepforums and Reddit it seems that many Compass owners going back to 2019/2020 are currently having or have gone through this same problem ultimately spending thousands upon thousands of dollars on part replacements and dealership visits only to be told that they cannot find the problem or know what may be causing the problem even though they are well aware of these issues. Some complaints have stated that this issue has happened while driving on major expressways or busy roads at random causing them to just come to a complete stop in the middle of traffic on expressways or during turns! I am taking my Compass to the dealership tomorrow morning 11/06/2023 at 7am to make them known of these issues I am having but I’m not holding out any hope. Jeep has not issued any recalls since this problem was brought to late in 2020. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle any longer and I will not spend thousands of dollars on random part replacements when dealerships or outright telling other compass owners that they can’t locate or college the problem. My next step after tomorrow may be to consult a lawyer.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the back over prevention camera displayed a blank or distorted image on the infotainment screen. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
Emergency brake system is randomly engaged while stopped and/or during driving. Engine stalls out and will not move unless engine is shut off and turned back on and emergency brake is disengaged.
When driving the Jeep on now 3 occasions has shut off on me while in full motion. The last time I was approaching a stop sign and was slowing down to stop once stopped I then proceeded to turn the vehicle shut off. There also were dash warnings that lit up to service hill shifter, and ESC I don’t know what that meant. However it was just seen at the dealership and they said there were no codes at the moment and the previous codes reset themselves.
It keeps giving me messages like high coolant temperature or stop safely vehicle will shut down soon. I read that this had happened to many jeeps, and the dealership couldn’t find the issue
Parked and turned off Jeep went into store and when I came out got in vehicle check engine light came on and it said high coolant temperature but it weren’t hot. Would not start. Flashing all kinds of stuff.
I was driving and my vehicle stopped at a stopped light and shut down with no warning prior. My vehicle had to be towed.
The vehicle will show that it is overheating when it is not and it will power down where you are only able to go around 50. When going over mountain passes it will do this and sometimes it will totally shut down. It will do it in town and any time it is at a traffic light. Sensors, water pump have been replaced. Antifreeze does not leak stays at the same level it is not actually overheating. When you beging to drive again at about 65 the gauge immediately goes to normal. This is a hazard
Car was at the gas pump. Filling up gas, then start the car. When car get started the engine suddenly turn off with the coolant temperature too high alert. The temperature on the dashboard is normal (middle). Engine wouldn't turn on after and the alert keeps popping up. Had to tow to the nearest jeep service
The stop/start system for saving on gas mileage has pulled the charge from the secondary stop/start battery and depleted that, in turn pulling from the car battery and depleting that and then pulling on the alternator, weakening it. The car has been stuck in "off" regarding the stop/start system. The car died in traffic today with again the battery depleted. After jumpstarting it, and turning the car off, it would not restart as the cells have been depleted. It is dangerous when you have no warning, no battery light to tell you that it needs help. I have another Jeep , a Cherokee Limited 4x4 that did the same thing and stranded me in the middle of six lanes of traffic. This is a serious Jeep problem that is going the get people killed, if it already has not. I will write a complaint about that as well.
Went out to start my jeep and it flashed coolant temperature high and would not start. Still won’t start. Contacting dealership Monday when they open.
While driving, the Jeep Compass lurched forward several times rather than having smooth acceleration. Within 5 minutes, the vehicle was sputtering and the engine just shut down completely. the "BRAKE" light illuminated on the dashboard, but no check engine light has ever been on. I was able to restart 4 times as I was trying to get to a mechanic. The last time I restarted it was struggling to start. Mechanic has since looked at it, and there are no codes to indicate what is going on. I did notice online that there are other complaints of Jeep Compass shutting off while driving, so I wanted to file a complaint.
High temperature coolant warning message appeared while car was parked and being turned on. This was followed by engine shutdown. The car had to be towed.
Randomly “High Coolant Temp” or “Coolant Temp too high” appears after not driving car for 12+ hours and car won’t start. Check engine light flashes. The Low power light comes on also. Sometimes I can turn ignition button off and right back on and it’ll start with no issues, sometimes I have to hook jumper cables or a jump box to the car to get it to start after the messages appears. Sometimes when it starts after turning off and back on because of the message, idle surges bad and throttle pedal is not responsive. Radio screen becomes unresponsive.
The life cycle of a CV axle usually lasts the life of a vehicle or between 70,000 and 140,000 miles. At 50,000 miles, mine already needs to be replaced. There was a recall on 2017 Jeep Compass for the driver side CV axle. It’s possible the same issue exists.
I purchased my Jeep in January of 2022. It has been running fine except for the past few months. Within the past month my Jeep starting flashing a High Coolant Warning which has been followed by the car shutting off while I am driving. This has happened to me on on ramps to highways and when driving 70 on the highway. The car has immediately turned itself back on when this happens. I brought my Jeep to Allen Mello Jeep in Nashua NH. At first they couldn’t find anything wrong but then they thought it was the water pump and Temperature Gauge. After spending $1300 with them it didn’t fix the issue and my car shut off two days ago on 8/15 while I wasn’t even driving for 10 minutes. Jeep doesn’t seem to know what is going on and they can’t seem to reproduce it. They are just guessing at a serious safety concern. This has also happened to me on the following dates 7/14/23, 7/20/23, 8/8/23
The Jeep has been in the service department since March 2023. The vehicles system malfunctions while driving and shuts down. The ability to drive to safety is not available. This has happened to me twice while driving on the hwy with my SPECIAL NEEDS daughter in the car.
I had just got back from a trip where my Jeep Compass ran perfectly fine. I had to go to work the next morning and my Jeep would not start. A warning came on that said "coolant temperature to high" and would not let me start my car. Keep in mind that the car had not even been running to have a high temperature. The engine would not turn over and the power steering locked up. This came without warning and I had no signs that something was about to happen. I have read that this has been occurring since 2021 and I wanted to add to the complaints of how dangerous this could be if my engine would have locked up and shutdown while driving on the highway like others have reported. The battery and auxiliary battery are not even two years old. This issue seems like it needs to be investigated more even though a investigation was opened up in 2022 and it is now 2023 and I have note seen anything from it.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with oil consumption failure and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2019 Jeep Compass. The owner was unable to start the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The owner was able to start the vehicle after a jumpstart. The owner took the vehicle to the location where she purchased the vehicle, where it was diagnosed and determined that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, on May 1, 2023, the vehicle continued to experience the failure. The owner took the vehicle back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the auxiliary battery and starter to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, on June 24, 2023, the vehicle continued to experience failure. The contact stated that while the owner was driving and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH. The owner towed the vehicle back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the spark plugs and coils to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 33,167.
This situation has now happened twice in the past three months. In the first incident, I was driving around midnight (had only been in the car for about twenty minutes) and my car showed an "engine overheating" warning on my dash and immediately went into limp mode for approximately 5 seconds. After those few seconds, it resumed driving normally and the warning went away. I made it about 1000 feet to the next intersection to turn off into a parking lot, and my vehicle shut itself down entirely (in the middle of the intersection). I was unable to turn on my hazard lights, dome lights, or restart my car for about 3 minutes. Both my safety and the safety of others was put at risk due to the fact that it was midnight, I had no way of showing others that my vehicle was immobile in the intersection, and could have well caused an accident. After restarting my car, I was able to move it out of the intersection and look at the coolant level. The level was at the full line and my vehicle behaved normally the rest of the way home. After this incident, I took the vehicle to an auto-shop and they diagnosed the issue as a faulty thermostat. Therefore, the entire thermostat housing was replaced and the coolant system was pressure-tested to ensure everything was properly done and working. Ultimately, though, this did not resolve the issue as this morning on my way to work (about 1 month after replacing the thermostat housing and about 10 minutes into my commute), my car again flashed an overheating warning and immediately went into limp mode - shutting itself off at the next intersection (approximately 1200 feet). This time, though, it was during everyone's morning commute and I narrowly avoided being rear-ended multiple times. I took my vehicle to the auto-shop and they have been unable to recreate the issue thus far. When they had replaced my thermostat housing originally, they were unable to see an issue with it to begin with (not staying closed or staying open).
Auto stop feature will not consistently work. My daughter has been in an intersection on several occasions when the vehicle would not re start. This happened in October of 2022 and a battery and a battery and sensor were replaced. This is now happening again putting her in danger in the middle of roadways.
The uconnect touch screen is ghost touching and glitching out causing it to mess with my cars functions and distracting me while driving.
High Coolant temperature warning came up on dashboard and engine shut off while I was driving my vehicle through an intersection. Car had plenty of coolant and other fluids, car was not overheating. About 5 minutes later the car turned back on.
My emergency brake engages while my vehicle is in drive during auto assist feature is on. My vehicle stalls. I have to put my vehicle in park, then shut my car off and restart it while in traffic. I have been in several near collisions. I have been a victim of road rage. My 2019 Compass has been experiencing this issue since July 2020. After 11 service visits, my vehicle is still not fixed and the dealership is no longer willing to help. They say there is nothing that can be done. I have copies of all service repair orders from 2020-June 2023
Multiple times while driving, the vehicle's high coolant temperature will instantaneously spike and shut the car down while driving. The problem so far has resolved itself within a couple seconds every time but we fear what will happen when this happens on the highway. The engine temperature is never close to too hot so I believe this to be an electrical issue.
Occasionally the knob that dims the dash and infotainment screen does not work. The lights stay at full illumination. This creates a blindingly bright situation in the dark of night.
The Auxiliary battery has died 3 times in 4 years. The dealership each time has replaced it and has stated it is unknown why the battery keeps dying. I have brought to 2 different Jeep dealerships.
Fuel saving start/stop feature induced function. Oct 2022-- Vehicle stopped on slightly upward slope. Engine turned off automatically (start/stop). Driver removed foot from brake and placed on accelerator. Accelerator push resulted in engine stall out. Car had to be cycled through multiple shut downs and gear shifts before being able to move. This was in a neighborhood fortunately. Vehicle submitted for repair where no fault reported but a sensor was replaced. May 2023-- Same incident but in traffic. Very dangerous. Waiting to submit vehicle for repair. No confidence.
Was driving along going 35 mph and had to stop for a pedestrian crossing the road. After coming to a full stop, the Jeep flashed a warning on the dashboard that the “engine coolant temperature is too hot” and the car completely shut off. The car was then turned back on and driven another 10 minutes to work without issue. After researching, it seems that we are no the only ones that are seeing this issue and is a massive safety issue if, for example, the car on the highway and shut off while going 70+ miles and hour. We are not sure what components are the issue as there were no warning lights or anything prior to the issue occurring.
Purchased in Feb 2020. The brakes have always been very touchy/grabby. It has gotten to be a situation where you dont know if the brakes will "overreact". The car has been checked several times and the dealership offers no explanation.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving approximately 75 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated to approximately 45 MPH for approximately 3 seconds, hesitated, and then stalled. The contact stated that before the vehicle stalled, the coolant temperature warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil, START/STOP, and battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number; however, the case was closed. The contact was offered a reimbursement but declined. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Power train experiencing a loss of power or stalling while driving. vehicle has completely shut down while on the highway. Obviously, this is a major safety issue. Another issue harsh shifting, jerking, and hesitation when the vehicle is in gear. The vehicle has completely failed to shift into gear, leaving me stranded at times
One month ago, my jeep compass's engine turned off on HWY199 in Southern Oregon, one of the most dangerous highways in Oregon. It was due to an error message saying "High Coolant Temperature Warning". This warning stalled my engine in the middle of going 55 mph with vehicles behind me and limited turn-offs. Luckily, I was able to find a driveway and go up it before I ran out of speed. I was not able to accelerate at all. Once I stopped and parked the vehicle, the warning message disappeared, and my engine was fine. I proceeded to pop the hood and check the coolant and radiator for signs of overheating, and there was absolutely nothing wrong. I called the dealership, and they said that it was strange and that if the car seemed to be fine after that, then to "drive it until it happens again". I have read multiple threads of people experiencing the same issue. Since the first time, this issue has happened 5 more times all while driving on the same Highway to and from work. I can't find any occurrence that causes it or warning signs before receiving that alert. In all cases that this has happened to me, the car has never once been overheating, yet it has almost caused an accident every time. This NEEDS to be resolved. I DO NOT want to trade this car in and pass this on to another unfortunate driver or their family. I am expecting a baby in three months and DO NOT feel safe. I see that there are cases with the same incident report and dealerships have yet to find a solution or diagnosis. Someone is going to get hurt if nothing is done about this.
On 05/04/2023 the outside temperature was 58 degrees. The vehicle in question had been sitting for approximately 5 days without being operated. When I depressed the ignition button, the vehicle shuttered slightly and started. Immediately a high coolant temperature alarm was displayed on the dashboard. When I placed the vehicle in reverse it slowly moved backwards. When I placed the vehicle in drive, it was slow to respond then suddenly lunged forward at a high rate of speed with little to no pressure on the accelerator. The vehicle shut down and required a restart. Through research, I discovered this is apparently a common complaint with this make, model, and year vehicle and that it needs to be reported. Fortunately I was not at speed or traveling, if I had of been, there would have been a high risk of a traffic accident. This vehicle only has about 25,500 miles on it.
My 2019 Jeep Compass started shutting off during driving. The car would shut off at stop lights or stop signs when the AC was turned to the maximum level. You have to put the car in park and restart the car. There would be no indication and it would only do this when the auto stop/start was on. The stop/start symbol is a green A. When it is malfunctioning the symbol turns orange and only goes off if you restart the car. I took my Compass to the local dealer several times to fix the issue. They have never heard of this happening and when they attempted to fix the issue the same thing happens again. My safety was/is at risk when the Compass can shut off during traffic at any moment leading to traffic accidents with my family in the car. I took the Compass to get this issue fixed several times in 2020, 2021 and recently in 2022 due to the fact that I was pregnant and was concerned for the safety of my baby and myself.
A message appears on the dashboard ‘High Coolant Temperature’ and immediately sends the vehicle to shut off and after a couple of seconds the error disappears and the temperature gauge returns to normal. When it shuts down, the car will either completely shut off or jolt and start back up.
The vehicle flashes that it is overheating and then shuts off, no matter what speed the vehicle is at. You then have to pull over and restart the vehicle. It is a very dangerous situation and I’ve seen hundreds, if not thousands, of similar stories online with the 2018-2022 jeep compasses. This issue needs to be resolved and Jeep needs to recall these vehicles before someone is seriously hurt.
Purchased vehical from a Spitzer CJDR dealership February of 2022. 4 months later returned to The dealership with a strong syrupy coolant smell coming from the hood. Was told by the dealership they could not find any issues. Returned back to the dealership multiple times complaining about the smell. Dealership replaced coolant cap and reservoir stated they still couldn't find a leak or why it smelled. Vehicle is not overheating. This past Thursday, I was driving and the vehicle shut off as I was pulling into oncoming traffic, almost causing a major accident. Dash light illuminated: "engine coolant temp. too hot" and the car would not start. I had the vehical towed by my insurance company to the dealership, as it still would not start. After dealership having the vehicle for almost a week, with no update, I called them. My Advisor states they cannot find an issue an not showing any codes.
The vehicle just shuts off while driving. Typically occurs while approaching a stop or slowing in speed. This puts our safety at risk at it typically happens at an intersection where other cars are crossing or waiting to cross. This vehicle is available for inspection upon request and has not been looked at by a dealer. The auto start stop function warning light has been coming on when this happens.
Car signals overheating warning then engine ceases and will not let me drive. After 10-20secs engine goes back to regular temperature and I can then continue driving fine. Last time it overheated I was stuck at a traffic light and my car turned the e brake on by itself. I had to turn on my emergency lights, turn e brake off then put the car in park. I then turned my car off and once I restarted it the temperature was back to normal and I was able to drive it to work fine. I am extremely scared about this as it is a safety hazard.
While I am driving or waiting for a light to change a message on dashboard states the vehicle is coolant temperature too high, which is a false over heating warning. Then the car will either stall/shutoff and has rolled back while my foot is on the brake. I would have to put it on park and restart vehicle. This has happened while my kids are in the car. I have taken it to 2 different auto repairs and nothing show up in there scanner.
On my way to work my 2019 Jeep compass all of a sudden started flashing all these error messages while I was driving (check shifter, service transmission, service ESC, AWD warnings, check coolant, car shutting down) my car seemed to be stuck in 1st gear, and my parking brake came on. While panicking trying to get off the road, I turn left but my car is going so slow a truck comes over the hill and slams into my passenger side. I've had my car less than 2 years and it did this exact same thing a few days after I bought it , I took it back to the dealership I bought it from, but they couldn't replicate the issue, the car corrected itself and was fine until April 6 when it started again while I was driving and caused me to be in an accident. This has been very traumatic, I've never been in a automobile accident, and I feel like it's all because of my car wouldn't accelerate so I could get off the road safely
Coolant overheating error message then Jeep stalls/shuts off while driving. Has happened multiple times. First time at a stoplight. Another incident occurred backing out of a driveway. A third time happened while driving on the highway going 75mph was able to power through and not shut off by pressing the accelerator. Another time happened while turning off the exit ramp from highway, again was able to push through the system by pressing the accelerator. Note-the coolant temperature is not actually overheating. If the Jeep turns off the coolant temperature goes back to normal, this is also the case if it stalls but doesn’t shut off. No mechanic has been able to diagnose why this is happening.
I have taken my 2019 Jeep Compass into the dealership because my vehicle completely STOPS, SHUTS OFF and STOPS MOVING when I am driving the vehicle or coming to a stop without any warnings or alerts. The gas peddles will lock up will not move forward or back. Although the vehicle is "on" the vehicle will not move unless the gear is switched back to park and restarted. This has occurred on multiple occasions while my vehicle is on the road and I have brought my vehicle into the closest authorized Jeep Service Station with no resolution other than oil consumption tests. This keeps occurring and this is unsafe for me and others on the road.
Engine shut down in an intersection due to “high coolant temperature” This was a false error and almost caused me to get into an accident. Once I could get power back, I moved over the the side of the road and inspected my coolant further. There were no leaks and reservoir had adequate pressure and fluid. Coolant temps read regular. I continued to drive to work while monitoring the digital coolant temps. The temperature fluctuated between 192 and 198. I reached my destination safely, but following this event, I do not feel this vehicle is safe to drive. Vehicle is up to date on maintenance and has 34k on the odometer
We were stopped at a traffic light, began to move when the driver instrument display went red, said coolant was high, the car stalled, and we were hit from behind by another SUV. After we were able to restart it, the display returned to normal. We waited for the police to arrive, got an accident report and now the car is at the dealer. Also, before that the radio display was acting up with lines in i like a bad television then it would shut off. The dealer says it needs a new radio (on a 4-year-old Jeep), and they want to apply updates that SHOULD fix the issue.
dashboard message stating “High Coolant Temperature” while driving on highway. I had to stop on the shoulder of the highway after seeing a warning that the vehicle would soon shut off. I was driving the car with my child and the situation was very tense. I had to park the car on the shoulder of highway and wait for it to settle down. This actually threatened the lives of me and my child.
Multiple instances of power loss in the vehicle with the warning stating that coolant temperature is too high. Car doesn't power more than 20mph in such instances and needs to be parked on the side for a restart.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, or while stopped at a traffic light the vehicle would suddenly shut off. The failure had occurred while driving 70 MPH, and while stationary at a traffic light. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer several times, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 16,000. The VIN was unavailable.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT I AM WRITING THIS LETTER ON THIS 2019 JEEP COMPASS WHEN DRIVING THE LIGHTS START GOING CRAZY CHECK ENGINE,SERVICE TRANSMISSION,POWER STEERING NEEDS SERVICED, SMELL OF GAS AND ANTIFREEZE AND PARKING BRAKE COMES ON AND MUCH MORE. I HAVE HAD THIS JEEP IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES WITH NO HELP I NEED HELP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ON THIS JEEP IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AT ALL I AM DISABLED AND ON A LIMITED INCOME NEED HELP PLEASE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH [XXX][XXX] e-mail [XXX] TODAY DATE IS 03/20/2023 INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
The engine start/stop light turned on saying it needed serviced. While driving. Then another message popped up on the screen and suddenly disappeared then my emergency brakes came on while driving and put me in a complete stop in the middle of the road.. have not yet contacted anyone about this issue yet. Im worried that it will happen again and cause someone to rear end me.
While driving in 33 degree weather my Jeep Compass randomly shuts off flashing a high coolant temp on the dash. This has happened twice while operating on the roadway, one of which was in the middle of navigating a 4 way traffic light. My significant other is a licensed mechanic therefore all maintenance is always up to date. This vehicle isn’t low on antifreeze and is a significant safety threat to myself and my two children 3 and under.
2019 JEEP COMPASS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO BROKEN LEFT FRONT KNUCKLE.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that she was unable turn off or restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the TCM and BCM were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred 6 hours later. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who informed the contact that 69 diagnostic trouble codes were retrieved; however, the dealer informed the contact they could not repair the vehicle unless the failure occurred while test driving the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 63,800.
Driving at highway speeds today "high coolant temp" message appeared and vehicle lost power briefly, luckily not completely as I was in the far left lane with no shoulder to pull onto. I made my way to the right shoulder and realized my temp was just fine - just below 200 degrees - and vehicle operated normally the rest of the way to work. After giving it a google search and seeing all of the other complaints about this issue, I figured I better report my issue as well in an effort to get this looked into and resolved. Had my car completely shut off like so many of the other complaints I've seen, there would have been an interstate pile up with me at the bottom.
Dash message stated “Coolant temperature too high” before shutting off completely at a stop light. Brakes locked up and could not change the gear. Car would not turn back on, and had to get my car towed out of the middle of an intersection.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Yes there is. I was driving on January 30th Monday and the car turned off a car almost hit me in the middle of the road. The car has been parked ever since that incident. My life is in danger. I do not feel safe and nobody seems to care. Yes the dealer I went to was Jeep Chrysler dodge in homestead and they did not care.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the vehicle stalled, and the engine oil warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 81,987.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while at a stop light, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated that the daytime running lights running low message was displayed. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle started operating normally. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the mechanic stated that the failure was a known issue; however, the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 95,000. The VIN was not available.
Several times I’ve had a “Coolant Temperature Too High” warning flash and then my car temporarily loses power before recovering. It has happened 4 times.
Noticed oil on ground and took car in for check and mechanic said there might be a defect with transmission case as it is leaking atf. Also left transmission axle inner boot is leaking.
I have a lease car with just over 37 months and was told by the dealership the brake pads and rotor need replace because I did not drive the car enough. The car has only 20k miles
Vehicle stalled out and locked up after stopping and attempting to accelerate. The vehicles emergency brakes locked on, the vehicle could not turn off with the ignition button, and when looking under the hood the electrical components had a low buzz to it. Vehicle could not turn off emergency break, accelerate, and engine turned off...
My car kept giving me messages transmission, check engine, your car will shut down. All messages then came across the dash and it stopped running. I took it to keep dealer they put it on the diagnostic machine. Replaced my 12v start stop battery and said it’s all good to go. Drove about 25 miles and another message came on drive around in a circle and recalibrate. Drove another mile and a message said engine will shut down and it did. Tried to start it it wouldn’t start but my brake lights and my flood light remained on and I couldn’t lock my vehicle. Checked it 8 hours later car was completely dead. Pretty sure the battery was drained It was Christmas Eve will wait until Monday to have it towed for the second time. .
The car has gone completely dead on at least 5 separate occasions since I got it about a year ago. There could be a plethora of reasons why but the dealer never seems to have an answer. The car can shut off for up to 5 minutes in my case and I’m usually stuck in traffic. It is dangerous and produces severe anxiety. When the car stops like that the e brake comes on and sometimes all I can do is manually unlock the door to get out can’t even move the shifter. I have had numerous issues with the car feels unsafe until they fix the root of the problem
My car just shuts down randomly while I'm driving it. The dashboard lights up red and says overheated. It doesn't start back up right away. I have had It to the dealership several times for this problem. They hook it up to their computer and it doesn't show anything wrong. This has been a continuing problem for the last several months. I do not feel safe driving this car. I never know if I'm going to make it home safely.
I was driving down the road going about 40mph, it lost power, I coated into a nearby parking lot because there was no acceleration Pulled off the road, shut it off and it did restart The next morning it was dead It tried to turn over, then it did jump I went ahead and got a new battery and it has been starting
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and failed to restart on various occasions. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where the failure codes were cleared; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact then stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he smelled antifreeze, and the vehicle then lost motive power with the check engine, performance transmission, seat belt, and various other warning lights illuminated, and messages displayed. The contact stated that he replaced the battery; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
Auto stop star keeps on acting up I just purchased the car I had it stall on me change one battery stalled on my agin change the other battery now I have to take it to the shop again for same issue got the car March,5,2022 1st problem July,5,2022 2nd problem November,21,2022 3rd problem December,3,2022
About a month ago my car showed a warning that essentially said "Find a safe place to stop your car will stop soon". I had to get a jump start but I did make it to the dealership to get the batteries changed. A week or so after the return of car my check engine light came on again. It went off 2 days later but the car stalled as I was driving it shortly after. I was at a stop light and it just shut down. I had to put the car in park. Turn it off and restart it. Saturday I was on my way to work and the coolant temp went full red, then no notches and the car stopped while I was driving. I had added coolant the day before because it wouldn't blow heat only cool air. Nonetheless it is currently in the shop. I had to get it towed as it started smoking. The biggest problem is that this time it did not advise that it would stop. It just stopped at 6:30 am in the dark on a 4 lane road.
While driving with the automatic start / stop on, the engine shuts down and dashboard light issues a coolant warning light. After a few seconds the engine goes back on. This happens periodically and is not a safe situation.
While driving on the highway traveling about 70 mph in the middle lane the car went into a "limp mode" and the vehicle started decreasing speed and I was not able to accelerate using gas pedal. I was able to move over to the slow lane to exit. At traffic light, I had to shut car off and restart. I brought to the car back to the dealership Bourne Auto Sales in Easton MA where I purchased the vehicle for inspection they could not reproduce the problem, thus they could not find any issues wrong and could not fix. It's unknown if warning lights came on prior to incident and there no sounds prior. My safety and my child's safety and the safety of others traveling on the highway were at risk as there could of been a major accident traveling at a high rate of speed then decreasing speed on a mulit lane highway.
Late July 2022, vehicle started indicating engine over heating regardless of appropriate coolant level. Vehicle then began to not start most times when attempting to turn car on. While driving on expressway, car completely shut off. Was able to coast to the side of the expressway out of the way of other vehicles. Vehicle was taken to a shop where the diagnosis was as follows: engine replacement, radiator replacement, system flush. There is an ongoing investigation currently regarding this type of vehicle.
While traveling down the roadway, a message will pop up on the middle information area that reads, “Stop Safely Vehicle Will Shut Off Soon.” Both the main battery, auxiliary battery checked and both tested good. (Replaced both less than 2 months ago) No check engine light. No battery light. No change in voltage. No change in any temperatures. The vehicle did shut off. But after shutting off for about 10 minutes, started back up with no problems. However after driving in secondary road for about 15 minutes, the same message popped up on the display.
2 incidents in traffic, in Savannah, GA our 2019 Jeep Compass, temperature gauge shot up and engine shut down, took a minute for my daughter who was driving to start it back up and continue. Had dealer check it in Hinesville, Ga. And could not recreate the same result
While sitting at a stop light, the engine stalled and would not restart. The brake pedal had no freeplay and was more difficult than normal to press. After about 30 minutes the vehicle restarted normally but required a lot of pressure on the brake pedal. No check engine or other warning messages appeared on the dash.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while his daughter was driving at an unknown speed and approaching a traffic light, she depressed the brake pedal but failed to stop the vehicle, causing the vehicle to rear-end another vehicle. The driver informed before the accident, multiple warnings light were illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained back injuries but did not seek medical attention. A police report was filed. The driver was able to drive to their residence. The contact took the vehicle to a collision shop and had the exterior of the vehicle repaired and the computer was reset. The vehicle was repaired but the same day they release the vehicle, multiple warning lights were illuminated for a second time. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the brakes and tires to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000.
Numerous times while driving at a low speed the EMERGENCY Brake suddenly came on for no reason. Car lost all ability to accelerate or brake at all. Had to be shut down multiple times to clear system to function again. Extremely dangerous in traffic for this to happen. Car has only 10000 miles and is maintained in every aspect.
Auto start stop system error. Also initiated a check engine light, right turn signal not working, brake lights stopped working, and parking light stopped working. Safety issue because inoperation of lights poses issue with other drivers. Vehicle has 17,500 miles.
The right Headlamp stopped working and Jeep keeps recommending fixes that don't work. This has created a big expense because they recommended running the diag, replacing the bulb, replacing the fuse, then finally replacing the entire Head Lamp Assembly. The HeadLamp still does not work and this is a safety issue.
The contact’s granddaughter owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that on several occasions while her granddaughter was driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact’s granddaughter was able to restart the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer was notified of the failure and scheduled an appointment. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable. The VIN was invalid.
- Unsure of fault as it hasn’t gotten inspected by mechanic or insurance but when start it indicates issue with steering and ESC system - Safety of self and others was severe if wasn’t controlled or in un-ideal conditions - Condition has yet to be reproduced or confirmed, sitting in mechanics lot now, not inspected yet - no messages or warnings but the steering would auto correct to left and right randomly when straight driving on the highway
The on off start failed to operate. It didn't start two mornings and I had to have it jump started. It failed to start while parking. The sheck auto start light finally came on. I called the jeep dealer and I can't get an appointment until October and i am afraid to drive the car like this. In 2020 it malfunctioned while I was driving over Red Mountain pass on a cliff edge and luckily wasn't killed. They repaired it. but now it is n ot working again.
2019 Jeep Compas Sport still under warrenty was involved in a head on collision with an estimated speed of 40 mph. The airbags did not inflate.I was not able to remove my child from vehicle to safety. Sprain of ligaments of cervical and thoracic spine ,Cervicalgia ,Precordial pain ,Thoracic pain. Two months have passed and i still have a problem picking up my 1 year old when Im actualy able to. The seatbealt injury sustaned has undeniably resulted in medical problems aswell as everyday hardship in my physical abilities. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms were noticably present.
OEM Xenon headlight do not turn on at all while vehicle is running at times, other times they will turn on a few minutes after vehicle has been running and stay on until it is turned off, makes no difference if switch is on the headlight on position or auto. Turned on high beams turns off the fog light and does not turn on either low beam or high beam. No solution has been found with 2 master mechanics have looked at it and internet search revealed other people are having this issue with no resolution. This is a huge safety concern.
The Compass randomly stalls when the auto stop start is engaged and the car is stopped. It stalls when we press the gas and the emergency brake automatically engages. The car has to be put in park, emergency brake turned off and then restart the car. It has happened at stop signs, lights, traffic and intersections. It does not happen when we press the stop start button so it does not go on. Brought to the dealer and they could not recreate and never heard of problem. They had it for 10 days.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated there were bubbles in the touch screen display. The contact stated that the display would activate with several features on and off. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the touch screen needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000. The VIN was not available.
My car is consuming to much oil it doesn’t have a linking, I have to put 2 -1/4 every week and the car stop stop when is on the middle of the traffic on the highway
My 2019 Jeep Compass Trail Hawk shuts down either while driving or stopped. The message that appears is "Coolant Temperature Too High" . It is a sever safety issue as it happens while idling at traffic lights. As soon as I let off the brake it stalls and displays that message. I have to put the Jeep in park, restart the engine. This also happens while driving. Sometimes I can power through. Once it happened and another error message came up and said "Throttle Engine Service Disabled". I have had the Jeep to an authorized Jeep service station (Kelly Jeep) many time without resolution. We are concerned about operating the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while the vehicle was on auto start and driving 65 MPH, the vehicle started jerking and stalled without warning. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights illuminated after the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic however, no failure was determined. The contact scheduled an appointment with the dealer for the vehicle to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 30,000.
On 2 separate occasions our 2019 Jeep Compass Sport has stalled while driving. Once at a red light & once while exiting the interstate. Both times the car had to be pushed out of traffic and would not restart for approximately 20 minutes. The most recent while exiting the interstate the cars parking brake engaged and would not turn off. Both times the car was taken to the dealership and we were sent home saying there were no codes and they could not duplicate the problem.
Car has been emitting a loud scraping squeaking sound when braking for months. I took it in to dealership to be inspected in February thinking that we needed brakes but were told there is nothing wrong with the brakes & the problem could not be duplicated. I got in the car with the advisor and the problem duplicated but they would not look at it any further due to being understaffed we had to go back and leave the car for them to diagnose it. The car has been at the dealership for almost a weak now (Since June 1st 2022) and they say they can’t duplicate the problem and everything looks fine. I don’t know how a car can make such a sound and there be nothing wrong. I see there was a brake recall & they were bleeding brakes for the solution but my vin number doesn’t produce that recall option. The first dealership visit for this complaint was February 2022. It is June and the compass is at the shop again to be diagnosed. But i’m being told they can’t duplicate the problem.
I'm having the same issue with my Jeep Compass 2019 as hundreds of others with no help from JEEP. Engine stalled 4 times already this month after a quick error message "coolant temperature too high" was displayed and immediately disappeared. But enough for the engine to stop completely. It happened at freeway exit ramp, driveway ramp, traffic light. Someone will get KILLED. I contacted Jeep. No help even though they are aware of this issue. Dealer could not recreate problem. Paid a fortune. Got it out of the dealer and it is still doing it. I can't keep driving like this. I called my old mechanic and he said that only a dealer can do a software update since it seems it is a glitch. Dealer updated software. Still doing it. Somebody needs to take this seriously before it is too late. I need somebody to help me. This site mentions this issue multiple times and shows that JEEP is aware of this issue. No dealer has been able to fix it: https://www.myjeepcompass.com/threads/error-message-%E2%80%9Chigh-coolant-temperature%E2%80%9D.44398/ Thank you.
Since I purchased my Jeep Compass Trailhawk in February 2019, sporadically a message appears on the dashboard display about "High Coolant Temperature" and immediately sends the vehicle to shut down and after a couple of seconds the error disappears and the temperature returns to normal. I must clarify that at no time does the vehicle overheat. This error occurs at any time of the day, regardless of whether the vehicle is cold in the morning or after driving for several hours; sometimes it occurs several times a week and sometimes not at all for weeks; the vehicle may be stopped at a traffic light or in motion on the highway, a particular situation that worries me greatly, because when this happens, the vehicle locks up for an instant (approximately one second) in which the steering hardens and the vehicle tends to stop abruptly, and I fear that this may cause damage to my car or even worse cause an accident. This situation has been reported since the first time it happened (about 11 months ago) and I have had to go to the garage about 10-15 times. In each occasion the technical team has tried to solve the problem without success, they even replaced a control module, installed updates, ran the scanner, and made long driving tests trying to recreate the condition that causes the error without succeeding.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that occasionally the vehicle would stall and shutoff without warning. The contact stated that there was a period between the vehicle stalling and being restarted. The time between shutdown and restarting might vary. The failure occurred at various speeds. The check engine and engine cooling system failure warning light had illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable to identify the cause of the failure. The contact stated that several other electrical shortages were experienced. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of fuel. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred them back to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.
On 3 different incidents, my 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk has stalled when I was slowing to a stop or stopped but not in park. I have had difficulty restarting the Jeep (once at an intersection and the other at a car wash) and the power steering as well as the emergency brake were not working. Also, the jeep is making a "lift off" sound when the vehicle increases its RPM (usually around 35mph-45mph). My foot is usually on the brake and not in the parked gear and just stops running.
While driving on the highway, my car shut down and when I attempted to restart I got a “power steering system hot, performance may be limited” message. Had no steering control and unable to power on until the system cooled. It happened a few times while driving home and almost got rear-ended. Currently unable to drive the car because it continues to power off while driving with the above message appearing. I took the Jeep Compass to the dealership and was not told what the issue could possible be.
The contact's wife owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while his wife was driving at approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. The contact's wife was able to restart the vehicle. The contact's wife stated no warning lights were illuminated prior to the failure; however, the oil pressure light illuminated afterward. The contact stated that the vehicle also occasionally stalled after being shifted into reverse. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing an oil change. Additionally, the START/STOP battery was replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
Engine stops during operation on the road. Occurs sporadically. Engine light illuminates, "High Coolant Temperature". Not able to restart vehicle and must wait a few minutes before starting. The illuminated light gauge turns off. Coolant levels in reservoir normal. Has occurred 12-15 times since ownership. No illuminated lights to take to mechanic.
Error message on the dash about the coolant being very hot the vechicle stops and shuts off while being on the road. I was on the high way and the vehicle just decided to shut off. Very dangerous
Will not start, it’s not the car battery or fob battery
The webbing on my passenger side seat belt is inexplicably worn and ripped. It looks as if it became worn over time by the seat belt latch vibrating against it. The webbing fabric may have been irregular too. It is very strange, I will attach photos. I don't know when or how the damage occurred because I rarely have passengers in my vehicle. It was discovered yesterday when I did have a rider. The damage is too high up on the belt to have been chewed by the dog. The dog has never been left unattended in the car, is too small to have reached the belt, and is secured in the back seat with a harness and locking tether while traveling. One dealer, C.H. Urness Motors in The Dalles, OR, wanted to charge me over $300 for repair and make me wait 3 months for the part despite my car being under warranty. They offered to expediate the process to five days for an additional fee. Supposedly the part is out of stock but for and additional charge, it can become "in stock" in five days. University Auto in Ellensberg, WA is attempting to make the repairs under warranty. I should hear back from them in the next few days. I am concerned that I can not safely transport passengers until the repair is made, that one dealer is attempting to overcharge and make me wait for the repair, and that there may be an issue with the manufacture of the seatbelt itself. Thank you.
2019 Jeep Compass Limited - around May 2021 brake light comes on stays on for awhile then turns off and on at random while driving and while stopped. Then the brake fluid low light comes on randomly while driving or stopped. Then has to go away since it’s where speedometer is then the brake light stays on. Then the auto start/stop light said unavailable. Then the 4 wheel drive unavailable light randomly pops up not as often as the brake lights which are daily actually like 15+ times a trip which also means it is dinging every time a light goes off. I have been to the dealer several times and nothing is ever fixed. This is a safety hazard I can not have my family in this Jeep if I have a faulty brake and electrical system !!! There are lots of issues posted online about this faulty electrical system. How can Jeep excpect me to drive around with possible faulty brakes?? seems a recall needs to happen as this is a safety hazard!!! I will not even be able to pass emissions and get it registered if I have error messages! Almost 10 months and still having this ONGOING daily error message issue and dealer is of NO help as well it is reported to Jeep customer care. Which they don’t care either. Seems everyone knows about this electrical issue and from what I read it just gets worse !! How can brakes and faulty electrical system not be a hazard??!! I do not feel safe and don’t even want this Jeep at all. Come on Jeep Do you want your children/spouses/parents driving such a death trap?
The vehicle will suddenly shut off while driving, randomly and without warning. Every dash light will illuminate, power steering goes out, the engine will shut off and will not start back up for 5 minutes or more. This has occurred while stopped at a stop light and while going 60mph in a tunnel. It is a hazard to the driver, passengers, and all surrounding drivers. The vehicle is still under factory warranty, the dealership is offering no assistance, jeep corporate is also unhelpful. The vehicle is UNSAFE.
I was driving and my car completely shut down for “high coolant temperature” and then just turned back on like nothing happened
The Uconnect 8.4 system in my vehicle frequently locks up, and causes the reverse camera to remain on even when the vehicle is not in reverse
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The contact stated dynamic steering torque service required, service ESC system, and service hill-start system warning messages were displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.
I have always been a jeep owner, Grand Cherokee, I decided to go with the Jeep Compass and i haven't had any issues until the beginning of the month. I changed the battery and still had the issue that the car wouldn't start. I brought to Chrysler Jeep and they changed the secondary battery and they reset it so i don't get the A symbol with exclamation point. Picked up my car from oil change, on my way i stopped at a traffic light at an intersection, it stalled on me. Completely turned off, the radio worked, the windows were able to go up and down. after a minute it turned back on. I brought it back to the dealer the next day, they had it for 4 hours and they said they didn't find anything wrong with the vehicle and they reset everything and i should be fine now. That Sunday, it stalled on me 3 times and this time it took 5-10 minutes before it restarted. It was the scariest moment in my life, i had my 6year old in my car and this car would not start. I brought it back to jeep on Monday the 25th and they still have it and they cant figure out what is wrong. they called me and said that they drove it and there is nothing wrong, i told them i do not want the car back until they fix it. now its Tuesday, and they still cant figure out the problem, this is a lease vehicle and they wont even give me a loaner until they find the problem. It just shuts off when you stop always at a traffic light. I told them the 3 things that popped up and they looked at me like im crazy...Service hill start system, service esc system and dynamic steering torque service req'd, they said no codes came up, then they said 2 codes came up but they still cant figure it out. It is dangerous for your car to stall without notice especially when you are leasing it expecting for it to be ok and no issues.
On at least three separate occasions, without warning, the coolant sensor suddenly goes in to a false coolant temperature alarm as if the temperature has climbed to maximum heat. While the alarm is active, you are unable to accelerate and have no power steering. After a second, the alarm vanishes and coolant temperature gauge shows temperature back at normal operational level. This has happened while driving 65 MPH on a highway. This also happened while trying to make a left-hand turn at a busy intersection. This is quite frightening and if this were to occur at the wrong moment could easily result in an accident. Other owners of the same model vehicle have reported this exact same issue in online forums such as MyJeepCompass.com. In all reported cases, dealers and mechanics are unable to determine the problem after replacing the coolant sensor and trying every possible solution. I believe this is a software or firmware issue causing a false coolant temperature alarm to trigger. I reported this to Jeep and they only recommended bringing the vehicle to a local dealer.
My daughter was driving her Jeep Cherokee on the interstate Saturday night when the closed sunroof completely shattered, dropping shards of glass on her. We called the dealership where we purchased the car and was told to file an insurance claim. This is a safety issue involving a defective product and not caused by the driver.
Blind Spot Warning message comes up "Blind spot temporarily unavailable". At this time the lights on each mirror freeze and stay on, and blinker will not turn off. This happens frequently when using the blinker and changing lanes on the interstate. You can sometimes touch blinker again and it will go off and the lights on mirror will then go off. However, sometimes you have no control of getting the blinker to shut off and lights to go off on mirrors. Problem was recreated once, and dealer thought they had it fixed. It started doing it again the next day. I took to dealer again and they could not recreate the problem. Since there is no recall on this issue, they are unable to locate what is causing this. I spoke with dealership again and they asked me to try to bring it in if possible, when problem occurs. I have agreed to do this. Dealership has been very helpful trying to get this problem figured out, but they haven't been able to get it corrected so far.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the air conditioner was blowing out shiny white participles into the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and was diagnosed that the debris was from an outside source. The evaporator coil was cleaned however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
Bought my 2019 Jeep Compass on May 21st, 2019 and it's been in and out of the dealership for the light on gear shift flickering, batteries not charging, radio would change itself, etc. Just in November 2020, I had to take it back to the dealership and get the computer component/frame replaced and that was at 40,000 something miles. Now, after driving this morning to do a couple of arrands in town, it will not do anything. Lights on the dash comes on, break is stiff, warning messages were popping up (like "steering torque service required" "anti-lock brake system service required" "ecs system need service" etc.), mileage on dash is flashing, gas reads full then it drops down to empty and then nothing, engine light stays on during this whole time, can't get gear shift to move out of park, auto start/stop light doesn't come on, brake comes on and off now can't get it turned off, traction is off and won't come on. The dash will read and show that the engine is on but won't turn over.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Compass equipped with Continental tires, Tire Line: ProContact TX, Tire Size: 225/55/R18, DOT Number: A35LWBJD1019. The contact stated that front driver’s side tire loss air pressure intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the tires were inspected and rotated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the Vin was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximate 22,000
I was driving with my daughter in the car and when the engine shut off on me. Luckily I was pulling up to a red light. I was able to stop but the brakes locked up on me and I couldn't restart the car. Many warning messages appeared like "steering torque service required" "anti-lock brake system service required" "ecs system need service" etc. I had just had my car serviced for a routine oil change a couple of days before at a Jeep dealership and nothing was mentioned to me that needed servicing. I then had the car towed to the dealership AutoNation Roseville Chrysler Jeep and Dodge and they do not know what is wrong with it. This is a real safety issue with a car shutting down while driving. I am just happy that I wasn't on the freeway when this happened.
On 4 seperate occasions, I have been driving at highway or cruising speeds and my vehicle will completely shut down. The dash will illuminate that the Auto Stop/Start is not working, then it will say "Stop Safely, Vehicle Will Shut Down Soon" and the car will shut down. It will then take approximately 10-15 minutes for the car to restart. I have taken into my dealership every single time it happens; they've replaced main battery, auxillary battery, replaced battery terminals and have said it "was just a fluke". The light and issue have been reproduced only once by the dealership but no diagnostic codes appear when lights come on. Dealership states MOPAR/Jeep will not authorize repairs for undiagnosable issue as it's still under warranty. The last time this happened, I had my 5 month old son in the car and we shut down on the Tappan Zee bridge. It's happened on a small 2 lane road at 10pm, I now have flares in my car for this reason so I'm not rear ended as I fear for my life.
1. I believe it's the "Auto Start-Stop" feature in the vehicle 2. While at a stoplight in a busy intersection, my vehicle has stopped twice, putting my children and myself in danger, making it a high risk for a serious accident with other motorists. This vehicle has also had a minor stall while driving on the highway. Luckily it didn't completely shut off but gave us a minor jerk. 3. Not at this time; the dealer has requested to test drive the vehicle for up to 200 miles to recreate the scenario. I don't believe 200 miles will recreate the scenario, especially when they say it could be the vehicle oil consumption. Since the first time we took it in, they lowered the recommended oil change by 3k or 4k instead of the original 5k. While in the care of the dealership on (6/15/2021) they made an oil change, so I am sure they will not encounter anything in this 200-mile test drive. 4. Yes, this is the second time the dealership has inspected the vehicle's issue with no response to why the dealership mechanics can't fix the issue. When will the manufacture take responsibility and recall the 2019 Jeep Compass. Why put people's lives at risk when informing the dealership of the dangers of this vehicle. 5. The Jeep Compass displayed no warning lamps; the vehicle just stalled.
I purchased my 2019 jeep Compass September 29th 2020, on March 20th 2021 my engine and radiator needs to be replace, Both warranty refuse to repair Engine & Radiator

THOUGH IT WAS IN THE PARK POSITION THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF BECAUSE IT WAS SAYING IT WASN'T IN PARK. IT WAS A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. WHAT IF THIS WOULD'VE HAPPEN IN DRIVE OR REVERSE?! I GO ON A CAR GURUS FORUM AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE. WHERE IS THE RECALL?!?! PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET HURT BY THIS. SO I GUESS JEEP/CHRYSLER WOULD RATHER HAVE LAWSUITS THEN TO FIX THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. THE DEALER HAS HAD MY CAR FOR ALMOST A WEEK AND STILL NO UPDATE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! JEEP DO BETTER!
TODAY MY CAR STOPPED (AGAIN) IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AS I WAS DRIVING AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT WENT ON. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME AND I AM LITERALLY SCARED OUT OF MIND TO DRIVE THIS CAR THAT I PURCHASED FOR MY BIRTHDAY. I'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AND THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD.
ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR ROAD, THE VEHICLE ENGINE JUST STOPPED. AT THE INSTANT THE ENGINE STOPPED, ENGINE CAUTION LIGHTS ILLUMINATED SAYING THE COOLANT HAD OVERHEATED AND ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL. PLACING THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AND THE JOURNEY CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED JEEP REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THEY TEST DROVE IT AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THERE WERE NO FAULT CODES IN THE COMPUTER, AND BASICALLY NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM. THIS IS MOST DEFINITELY A MATTER OF LIFE SAFETY. THE ENGINE STALLING AT THE WRONG TIME COULD CAUSE A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT.
MY 2019 JEEP COMPASS STARTED HAVING ISSUES IN SEPTEMBER 2020. IT SHUT OFF AT A RED LIGHT ON HIGHWAY 76 IN OCEANSIDE, CA WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR. SHORTLY AFTER, IT STARTED BECOMING SLUGGISH WHEN PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND BACKING INTO THE STREET. SHIFTING BETWEEN PARK AND DRIVE IT STALLS, THE LIGHTS ON THE GEAR SHIFT HAVE SINCE GONE OUT. I HAVE REFUSED TO DRIVE OR REGISTER MY VEHICLE SINCE OCT. 2020 BECAUSE I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IT WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR. I MAKE MY MONTHLY PAYMENTS ON TIME AND HAVE BEEN TOLD TO REPORT MY ISSUES HERE. MY 2019 JEEP COMPASS IS A PAPERWEIGHT AT THIS TIME.
I PARKED MY CAR IN MY DRIVE LASTNIGHT JUST LIKE EVERY NIGHT; AND I WALKED OUT THIS MORNING AND THE BACK END OF MY CAR WAS IN THE STREET! IT ROLLED BACK MORE THAN HALF OF MY DRIVEWAY! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YES IT SNOWED HERE IN NJ HOWEVER THERE WAS ROCK SALT (A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT ON MY DRIVEWAY - TOWNSHIP GRADE) THERE WAS A VERY LIGHT AMOUNT OF SNOW NOTHING CRAZY THAT WOULD'VE CAUSED THIS. MY DRIVEWAY IS NOT A HILL OR HARSH SLOPPING AT ALL. I'M CONCERNED FOR NOT ONLY MY SAFETY AND OF COURSE FOR MY CAR, BUT WHAT IF THAT ROLLED FURTHER?... WHAT IF IT HIT SOMEONE WALKING THEIR DOG.. OR ANOTHER VEHICLE PASSING BY?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WORKED AS DESIGNED. THE AUTO START/STOP WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SUNCOAST CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (8755 PARK BLVD N, SEMINOLE, FL 33777, (727)393-4621) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 556.
I BOUGHT MY 2019 JEEP COMPASS LIMITED FROM A DEALERSHIP ON 11/18/2020. SINCE THAT DAY IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES. THREE TIMES BECAUSE THE START /STOP KEPT COMING ON SAYING TO HAVE IT SERVICED AND BECAUSE IT STOPPED ON ME AT A STOP SIGN AND WOULD NOT GO, HAD TO TURN IT OFF AND IT CRAKED AGAIN TELLING ME START/STOP HAS MALFUNCTIONED! TODAY1/26/2021 ALL LIGHTS ON DASH CAME ON IT LOST POWER ON THE INTERSTATE AND TOLD ME TO STOP HAVE ENGINE SERVICED NOW. SHUT DOWN WOULD NOT CRANK HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE TO DELEARSHIP. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THESE CARS ARE A PIECE OF CRAP AND JEEP NEEDS TO TAKE NOTICE!! JEEP SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SALE A VEHICLE WITH SO MANY KNOWN PROBLEMS!! SO SORRY I LEFT HONDA FOR THIS!!!!!!!!
ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS NOW THE CAR RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS ONCE IT WAS ON THE HIGHWAY- THE CAR SHUTS DOWN AND STARTS TO DECELERATE- YOU LOOSE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES AND THE CAR IS HARD TO CONTROL- THE LAST INCIDENT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT- HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY ARE BASICALLY JUST THROWING DARTS AT TRYING TO FIX IT. THE FIRST FIX WAS JUST A COMPUTER UPDATE, THE SECOND FIX WAS A THERMOSTAT AND HOUSING THE THIRD FIX WAS AN AUXILIARY BATTERY?
SO MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN REALLY SLUGGISH. HALF THE TIME IT DOESN'T WANT TO ACCELERATE, AND WHEN IT DOES IT SOUNDS LIKE IT'S HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS. WHEN GETTING ON THE FREEWAY MY VEHICLE WILL GET TO THE SPEED OF 50 MPH AND MY RPM READING BETWEEN 4000-5000. I HAVE TRIED TO LET MY FOOT OFF THE GAS, MY SPEED GOES DOWN BUT RPM STAYS THE SAME. THIS IS REALLY SCARY ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE TO GET ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH A SPEED LIMIT OF 70, AND YOU CAN ONLY GO 50-55. I AM A FIRST RESPONDER, SOME TIMES I USE MY PERSONAL VEHICLE TO RESPOND TO INCIDENTS, DUE TO LOCATION.
FROM PURCHASE DATE THE BRAKES FELT BAD. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO 2 DEALERSHIPS AND 3 TIMES TOTAL TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE GRINDING AND BRAKE GRABBING AND TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG OR NO RECALLS, SO THEY DIDN'T WANT TO ADDRESS THIS ONGOING ISSUE.
WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR IT WILL TURN OVER BUT NOT START. THE CAR TURNS ON AS IF IT WILL START BUT DOESN'T COMPLETELY CRANK. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME SINCE I'VE HAD THIS CAR THAT IT HAS NOT CRANK. IT HAS ALSO TURNED OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY WHILE AT A RED LIGHT AND DID NOT TURN BACK ON. THIS IS A PROBLEM I SEE MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THIS SIMILAR VEHICLE.
MAKING A TURN AROUND AND THE CAR WENT OVER THE CURB BARELY AT 20 MPH OR SLOWER AND THEN THE CAR BECAME IN DRIVABLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE RACK AND PINION IS BROKEN AND THAT JEEP HAS A 700+ PEOPLE WAITING LIST FOR THE PART BECAUSE THERE IS A BUG IN THE PART AND THEY REFUSED TO RELEASE IT TO THE PEOPLE SO NOW I DON'T HAVE A CAR TO DRIVE ALL BECAUSE I RAN OVER A CURB GOING LESS THAN 20 MPH.
I BOUGHT MY JEEP MARCH 2019 AND HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE. THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER THE RADIO STARTS PRESSING BUTTONS BY ITSELF. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DODGE AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE NEXT THING TO GO WRONG IS THE AUTO START STOPS WORKING. I GOT STUCK AT SEVERAL RED LIGHTS AND ALMOST REAR ENDED A FEW TIMES. I TOOK IT BACK TO DODGE AND THEY STILL SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT AND IT DIDNT THROW ANY CODES AT ADVANCED AUTO. THEN LASTLY, IT FINALLY GOES OUT. THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF ON MY IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT JUST STOPS. BREAKS SEIZED. LIGHTS FLICKERING OFF AND ON. CAR IS REGISTERED AS ON BUT WONT GO ANYWHERE. IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 3 WEEKS NOW AND IT STILL WONT START NOR EVEN SHOW A LIGHT ON THE DASH. NOW THAT I ONLY HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY LEFT THEY ARE NKW SAYING I HAVE TO PAY 3I FOR A NEW ECU OUT OF POCKET. HOW IS THIS FAIR. I BOUGHT A NEW VEHICLE SO I WOULDNT HAVE THESE ISSUES. I STILL OWE 29K ON SOMETHING I CANT AMUSE EVER AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDISCLOSED SPEED, THE PARKING BRAKE INADVERTENTLY ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ARRIGO CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF SAWGRASS (5901 MADISON AVE, TAMARAC, FL 33321) HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE A FAILURE CODE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER INFORMED HER THAT SHE HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIRS AND THAT THE PART TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 22,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE SHOOK ABNORMALLY, RATTLED, AND BECAME UNSTABLE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
I CAME TO A RED LIGHT; MY CAR CUT OFF LIKE NORMAL; WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK IT WOULD NOT START BACK UP. I HAD TO CUT MY HAZARDS ON. I PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK AND TRIED TO TURN MY VEHICLE ON. I TRIED 3 TIMES AND IT FINALLY STARTED. MY VEHICLE STARTED MAKING WEIRD NOISES; ON MY CONTROL PANEL IT SAID START/STOP NOT READY BATTERY PROTECTION MODE. I PARKED MY CAR AND LET IT COOL OF FOR 2 HOURS. I GOT IN MY VEHICLE, STARTED, LEFT MY HOUSE, WHEN I GOT TO THE STOP SIGN. IT DID THE SAME THING. IM HONESTLY SCARED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE BRAKING FOR A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE PARKING BRAKE ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE CONTACT CALLED HERTRICH DODGE (1147 E PULASKI HWY, ELKTON, MD 21921, (443) 907-1500) AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO ACTIONS COULD BE TAKEN UNLESS THE FAILURE WAS PRESENT BEFORE A ROAD TEST COULD BE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE VEHICLE WONT START OCCASIONALLY. YOU CAN PRESS THE IGNITION, AND IT SAYS ITS ON, BUT THE ENGINE DOESNT TURN OVER. I HAVE NOTICED IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN IF YOU 3NGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE WHILE YOUR FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE. TO "CORRECT" YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, PRESS THE IGNITION BUTTON AGAIN UNTIL IT SHUTS OFF, AND THEN REAPPLY YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE DEPRESSING IT AS FAR AS YOU CAN PRESS IT AND THEN PRESS THE IGNITION BUTTON AGAIN. THERE IS A MOMENT OF HESITATION AND THEN IT STARTS UP. ADDITIONALLY THE CAR HAS SHUT OFF ON ME AT AN INTERSECTION WITH THE AUTO START FEATURE ON, AND WOULDNT RESTART WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO. I HAD TO FOLLOW THE SAME PROCEDURE DESCRIBE ABOVE TO "CORRECT" THE PROBLEM. BECAUSE OF THIS, I NO LONGER RUN THE CAR WITH THE AUTO START FEATURE BECAUSE ITS UNRELIABLE. ITS ALWAYS BEEN A BIT OF A ROUGH START WHENEVER I HAVE LEFT IT ON, CAUSING ME TO WONDER IF ITS ACTUALLY GOING TO START.
VEHICLE PURCHASED NEW, STILL UNDER WARRANTY SUDDENLY QUITS RUNNING WHILE IN TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT 30-50 MPH, ON A COUNTY ROAD, VEHICLE WAS STILL RECEIVING POWER HOWEVER WONT RESTART. BROUGHT TO THE DEALER WERE IT WAS PURCHASED. DIAGNOSED AS A FAULTY PCM AND ESD. REPAIRED AFTER WAITING TWO WEEKS FOR THE PARTS. DROVE IT OFF THE LOT LESS THAN 3 BLOCKS AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFTEY RECALL STOPPING IN A STREAM OF TRAFFIC SUDDENLY.
IT SOUNDS LIKE THE FRAMING UNDER MY HOOD IS BOUNCING. ANYTIME I'M DRIVING ON THE ROAD, I HEAR KNOCKING EVERY TIME I HIT THE SLIGHTEST BUMP. SOUNDS AS IF SOMETHING IS LOOSE AND NOT SECURED. DEFINITELY SCARY SINCE IT'S A 2019 JEEP COMPASS, BASICALLY A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. *TR
I COMPLAINED ABOUT ENGINE TAPPING SOON AFTER BUYING THE BRAND NEW CAR IN AUGUST 2019 NOTHING WAS DONE. 5/9/20 I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE CAR AND AS I GOT READY TO PULL INTO A BUSY STREET THE TRUCK CUT OFF AND THE PARKING BREAK ENGAGED. IT TOOK ME 5 MINS TO GET IT RESTARTED AND ATTEMPTED TO BACK UP AND IT CUT OFF AGAIN. MY BREAKS HAVE BEEN FEELING AS THOUGH THEY ARE GRINDING. MY CLOCK HAS CHANGED TIME ON THE TRUCK FROM REGULAR TIME TO MILITARY TIME. WHEN MOVING MY CAR INTO DRIVE MY CAR JERKS VIOLENTLY. *TR
MY AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT COLLISION. I WAS DRIVING HOME AT 55 MPH, THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN MY CAUSE STARTED BEEPING AND AIR BAGS DEPLOYED CAUSING ME TO CLIP A CAR WHEN I SWERVED. I LATER RECEIVED NOTICED IN MY JEEP APP OF A ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG.*DT*JB*DT*DT*JB*DT*DT*JB*JB CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE HAS BEEN TOTALED. *TR*DT
THE TOUCH SCREEN RADIO IS SWITCHING RADIO STATIONS BY ITSELF. WHEN YOU TOUCH THE STATION ON THE SCREEN IT GOES BACK TO ANOTHER STATION
2019 JEEP COMPASS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO BROKEN AXLES ON VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING THROUGH SNOW. *LD CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING THROUGH SNOW ON THE HIGHWAY THE AXLES OF THE LEFT TIRES OF VEHICLE BROKE. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SPIN AND HIT A CONCRETE DIVIDER CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GRIFFIN'S HUB CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE (MILWAUKEE, WI). CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT DAMAGE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE AN ACCIDENT CAUSED THE AXLES TO BREAK. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE AXLES BREAKING WERE THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. *DL
UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, AFTER BRAKING VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD WITH UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, ALSO HARD SHIFTS WHEN IN MOTION.
I WAS AT A RED LIGHTING TURNING RIGHT AND WHEN I STARTED TO GO THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT LET ME GO FORWARD. I TRIED TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF AND IT MADE A NOISE LIKE THE CAR WAS TURNING ON BUT WOULD NOT LET ME MOVE FORWARD. I TRIED TURNING IT ON AND OFF A COUPLE TIMES THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I POPPED THE HOOD AND THEN TRIED TURNING THE CAR ON AGAIN, THIS TIME IT DID TURN ON AND WAS LETTING ME MOVE FORWARD AND THEN IT STALLED AGAIN AND WOULD NOT LET ME GO FORWARD. MY HUSBAND HAD TO PUSH THE CAR AND JUMP START IT (ITS A MANUAL) WE DROVE STRAIGHT TO DODGE TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND RELEASED THE CAR BACK TO US.
I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY WHEN THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED AND STALLED. I TRIED TURNING THE CAR BACK ON AND IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS ON BUT DOES NOT LET ME ACCELERATE OR REVERSE. I TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES TURNING IT ON AND OFF AND IT STILL WOULD NOT LET ME DRIVE. WE PUSHED THE CAR BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND ABOUT 3 HOURS LATER I TRIED TURNING IT ON AGAIN AND IT TURNED ON. WE TOOK IT BACK TO DODGE (THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS CAR HAS STALLED LIKE THIS RANDOMLY) AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND RELEASED THE CAR BACK TO US.
MY BRAKES STARTED GRINDING AT 5,000 MILES BUT IT IS INCONSISTENT, MAINLY FROM COLD TO START AND ANOTHER TIME IT DID IT FREQUENTLY DURING THE DAY.
TL* THE CONTACTS WIFE OWNS A 2018 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED 6 TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CROTON AUTO PARK (1 MUNICIPAL PL, CROTON ON HUDSON, NY 10520, (914) 271-5100) ON TWO OCCASIONS TO BE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PCV VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND SECONDARILY, AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED AT 500 MILE INTERVALS UP TO 1,500 MILES. THE PCV VALVE WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, A DETERMINATION WAS NOT MADE REGARDING THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS OUR NEWLY LEASED 2019 JEEP COMPASS STALLED WHILE AT HIGH SPEED. WE ALL HAD TO PULL OVER WITH OUT POWER STEERING. THIS HAPPENED SHORTLY AFTER WE PULLED OUT ON TO A MAIN ROAD FROM OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.*DT CONSUMER STATED YES, I TOOK IT TO VICTOR DODGE JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE I LIVE AND GOT THE CAR. THEY SAID IN WAS DOWN A QUART OF OIL. FILLED IT AND SAID TO RETURN AT 7,500 MILES SO THEY COULD CHECK THE LEVEL AGAIN. I WOULD SAY THE VEHICLE WAS AT 45 MPH. THERE WAS AN OIL PRESSURE LIGHT THAT CAME ON WHEN THE CAR WAS STARTED UP. BUT IT WENT OFF RIGHT AWAY. *JB
STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP WHILE DRIVING. SAFELY STOPPING THE VEHICLE, TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, AND THEN RESTARTING THE VEHICLE RESETS AND UNLOCKS THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES NOW, TODAY BEING THE 4TH SINCE WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN JULY 2019. TODAY'S STEERING WHEEL LOCKUP PRESENTED AN ERROR ON THE DASH: "DYNAMIC STEERING WHEEL SERVICE REQUIRED". PREVIOUS EVENTS OCCURRED IN SEPTEMBER AND AUGUST OF 2019, BUT WITHOUT ERROR DISPLAY.
NO CODE ON COMPUTER. THERE IS A SLIGHT SHAKING WHEN DRIVING ON LOW GEAR BETWEEN 10-20MPH DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO CODE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT AND THAT IT MIGHT BE A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. NO BRAND NEW CAR SHOULD SHAKE. THEY DOCUMENTED THE ISSUE BUT NOTHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. ONCE IT WAS RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS CURRENTLY AT JOEY ACCARDI CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP, RAM (909 FEDERAL HWY, POMPANO BEACH, FL 33062, (954) 943-6700) WAITING TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,200.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WALLY ARMOUR CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1950 W STATE ST, ALLIANCE, OH 44601) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS LOW, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE DEALER INSTRUCTED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THEM AFTER 500 MILES FROM THE LAST OIL CHANGE FOR MONITORING AND AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE COMING TO A STOP THE BRAKES STARTED TO PULSATE, ONCE STOPPED THE CAR STALLED AND ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE ALL BY ITSELF AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OR GO INTO PARK OR TURN OFF, FOR 7 MINUTES WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. ALSO, SCREEN DISPLAY JUMPS BETWEEN APPS ON ITS OWN AND WON'T ALLOW ME TO CHANGE OR TOUCH ANYTHING ON THE SCREEN, GLITCHES AND HOLDS TWO APPS AT ONCE FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME.
MAJOR ISSUE! THIS IS APPARENTLY KNOWN BY JEEP AS THEY HAVE ISSUED A RECALL. YET IT IS HAPPENING TO ADDITIONAL MODELS OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF THE ISSUED RECALL. 2019 JEEP COMPASS 2.4L. THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH. THE VEHICLE IS BRAND NEW WITH ONLY 200 MILES. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ONLY 10 DAYS AGO. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK AND RETURNED IT, WHICH WAS QUITE THE HEADACHE TO GET THE DEALER TO DO. I BASICALLY TRADED IT IN FOR A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SO TO AVOID THE 2.4L ENGINE. I AM OUT QUITE A BIT OF MONEY IN PAYING TAXES, FEES, REGISTRATION, TILE,ETC TWICE DUE TO THIS ISSUE. IN DOING SOME RESEARCH, THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM IN BOTH THE JEEP COMPASS AND THE JEEP CHEROKEE IN REGARDS TO THE 2.4L 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. JEEP HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON THE CHEROKEE. THEY NEED TO DO THE SAME ON THE COMPASS. STAY AWAY FROM THE 2.4L 4 CYLINDER ENGINE AT ALL COSTS.
REAR ENDED ANOTHER CAR IS HEAVY RUSH HOUR MORNING TRAFFIC AND NOT ONE OF MY AIR BAGS WENT DEPLOYED.
MY CAR HAD STALLING AND SHUTTING OFF PROBLEMS WHILE DRIVING IN THREE OCCASIONS, ONE DAY IT HAPPENED 2 TIMES, AFTER A STOP LIGHT, IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND THEN AGAIN AFTER A STOP SIGN, THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE SIGN WAS ON AS A RESULT. 3RD TIME IT WAS WHEN RESTARTING AFTER AN INTERSECTION STOP, WHEN CROSSING AFTER TURNING LEFT, FORTUNATELY THE CAR CONTINUED TO THE OTHER END WITH THE 1ST ACCELERATION IMPULSE, AND THIS TIME IT TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE.
LEASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW. AT 60 MILES ON ODOMETER, WENT TO START CAR, CAR TURNED STARTED BUT THEN STALLED/TURNED OFF INSTANTLY. HAD TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES TO START AGAIN. AT 250 MILES CAR CAME TO BRIEF STOP ON SLIGHT INCLINE WHILE WAITING FOR A PARKING GATE TO OPEN, PARKING GATE OPENED AND VEHICLE WAS STARTING TO ROLL WITH THE CAR OFF, I RELEASED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T START IT STALLED. I PUSHED THE BRAKES BACK TO STOP MY CAR. CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE, I TRIED TO RE-START MY CAR BY HITTING THE PUSH BUTTON , CAR WOULDN'T TURN OVER. EVENTUALLY WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER 60 MINUTES. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD, I AM LUCKY THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN AT A BUSY INTERSECTION.
TO START I STILL DON'T HAVE MY LICENSE PLATES, WHICH TELLS YOU HOW NEW IT IS. THE GEARSHIFT DOESN'T LIGHT UP AND IF IT DOES IT FLICKERS WHEN I SWITCH GEAR FROM P TO R TO D OR WTVR I NEED TO DO THERE IS NO INDICATION ON WHAT GEAR I'M IN. I'M ASSUMING IT'S ELECTRICAL WHICH ISN'T A GOOD SIGN. JEEP BRAND ISN'T DOING GOOD. ALSO WHEN I LIGHTLY TAP MY GAS IT MAKES THE SOUND OF ACCELERATION BUT IT'S NOT ACTUALLY DOING SO. I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS FOR THE SYSTEM TO I GUESS CATCH UP WITH THE SPEED I'M TRYING TO GET TO AND THIS IS ON THE CITY STREET . I WILL UPDATE ON 10/3 IF MY CAR COMES BACK FROM THE DEALERSHIP BY THEN.
THIS IS MY 5TH TIME REPORTING THIS ISSUE TO THE MANUFACTURER THEY HAVE ALSO HAD A FINAL REPAIR ATTEMPT AND DECLARED NO ISSUE EVEN THOUGH AS I WRITE THIS THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I WAS PARKED FOR AN HOUR AT A STORE I COME OUT TURN ON THE VEHICLE PLACE THE CAR IN REVERSE CAR FREEZES UP WON'T MOVE FROM ON OR RUN AND CANNOT CHANGE TO DRIVE OR ANYTHING ELSE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND REVERSE SYMBOL CONTINUES TO BLINK CAR HAD TO BE RESTARTED TWICE AFTER THIS TO GET IT TO DRIVE TO GO HOME.
BRAKES GRAB DANGEROUSLY HARD. AND, TRANSMISSION GETS STUCK IN FIRST GEAR, VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT OCCURS ON A FREEWAY OR INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. THIS IS AN AVIS RENTAL CAR FROM THE PHILADELPHIA AIRPORT. THEY RENT VERY LOW STANDARD CARS FOR ECONOMY RENTALS.
WHEN I HAVE TO BRAKE AND COME TO A STOP THE CAR RUMBLES, THEN WHEN COMPLETLY STOPPED THE CAR SHUTS OFF, THEN WHEN I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDDLE THE STARTER KICKS IN AND STARTS THE CAR IN GEAR WITH A RUMBLE AND THEN I CAN GO? IT DOES'NT MATTER IF ON THE HIGH WAY OR AT A STOP SIGN IT RUMBLES, SHUTS OFF AND RESTARTS IN GEAR. THE CAR IS (2) DAYS OLD WITH 35 MILES.
ON 2/28/19 I LEASED A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. I HAVE BEEN HAVING MINOR ISSUES WITH IT WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR, SOMETIMES IT JUST DOESNT START. AS I WRITE THIS ON 9/3/19 I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE LEASE I HAVE AND THEREFORE WHY I AM DOCUMENTING MY EXPERIENCE. LAST WEEK, TUESDAY, 8/27/19 WHILE IN AN INTERSECTION, MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. I REACHED OUT TO MIAMI LAKES AUTO MALL ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS, THIS WAS A TOTAL DISASTER, I KEPT BEING TRANSFERRED TO VOICEMAILS AND COULD NOT GET ANYONE ON THE PHONE WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS INTERSECTION. I CALLED CHRYSLER ROADSIDE (ANOTHER MESS) AND ENDED UP HAVING TO WAIT 4 HOURS UNTIL A TOW TRUCK COULD COME AND GET MY CAR, STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, HAD TO CALL 911 SO A POLICE CAR COULD PARK BEHIND ME AS OBVIOUSLY THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. AFTER FINALLY GETTING THE CAR TOWED, POLICE, RAIN AND BEING STUCK IN AN INTERSECTION AND ALL, FINALLY MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE EXCEPT FOR A SERVICE MANAGER CALLED JONATHAN, HE WAS THE ONLY PERSON THAT SPOKE WITH ME DURING THIS TIME, OF COURSE AFTER I ARRIVED TO THE DEALERSHIP, ENTERPRISE WAS CLOSED SO I HAD TO TAKE AN UBER HOME. I HAD TO LEAVE TO TAMPA FOR WORK SO I HAD TO GO GET A RENTAL AT NATIONAL THAT MORNING AND HEAD OUT, ON THURSDAY THE 29TH I SPOKE WITH JONATHAN AND HE TOLD ME THE ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE WAS A SOFTWARE FAILURE AND THAT THE VEHICLE IS WORKING PROPERLY NOW. WITH HURRICANE DORIAN COMING AND IF I HAD TO EVACUATE, OF COURSE, I WAS NOT FEELING CONFIDENT THAT I WASN'T GOING TO GET STRANDED WITH MY FAMILY WITH A FAULTY VEHICLE SO I HAD TO KEEP THE RENTAL FOR A FEW MORE DAYS. I AM VERY NERVOUS OF TAKING THIS VEHICLE HOME AS NOW I DONT KNOW IF IT WILL LEAVE ME STALLED, I HAVE READ THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE COMPASS. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH JEEP AS WELL.
I WILL BE DRIVING AND WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WILL COME ON WITHOUT ME REALIZING IT.THE CAR IS STILL RUNNING AT THIS TIME AND WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS THE CAR WILL JUST ROLL INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION AND STOP. I HAVE TRIED JUST CLICKING IT OFF, BUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WILL NOT COME OFF UNTIL I TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THIS IS MY SECOND 2019 JEEP COMPASS. THE FIRST ONE I HAD ONLY 4 DAYS BECAUSE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS COMING ON AT ALMOST EVERY STOP I MADE. THE 2019 JEEP COMPASS THAT I HAVE NOW HAS DONE IT A TOTAL OF 6 TIMES SINCE I HAVE HAD IT, AND I HAVE HAD IT FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO JEEP 3 TIMES, BUT THERE ARE NO CODES THAT POP UP AND OF COURSE THE PROBLEM DOESN'T OCCUR DURING THE SHORT TIME THAT THEY HAVE THE CAR. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN THE CAR IS AT A COMPLETE STOP WHETHER I AM STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN OR LIGHT.
2019 JEEP COMPASS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE STOPPING SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE RAN LOW ON OIL WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN THE VEHICLE RESTARTED THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *JS
THIS IS MY THIRD COMPLAINT ON THIS 2019 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STALLS AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND OTHER LIGHTS COME ON. THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND HAS TO BE TOWED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS UPDATED SOFTWARE, AND NOW HAS SAID THAT THE CAR IS LOW ON OIL EVERY THREE WEEKS AND THAT'S WHY IT STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I HAVE A BABY ON THE WAY!. THE OIL CHANGE INDICATOR DOESN'T EVER SHOW UP AND THE MANUFACTURER JUST GIVES THE RUN AROUND.
THIS IS MY THIRD TIME WITH AN ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE STALLING. I WAS TURNING AT AN INTERSECTION AND THE CAR JUST STALLED LIGHTING UP EVERY NOTIFYING SIGNAL INCLUDING AN EMERGENCY BRAKE BEING LOCKED IN ALMOST CAUSING AN SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF TWICE WHILE DRIVING WITH NO WARNING. FIRST INSTANCE OCCURRED ON A HIGHWAY AND THE SECOND AT AN INTERSECTION.
TERRIBLE BREAKING AND POOR TRACTION CONTROL WHILE BREAKING, CAUSING THE CAR TO SLIDE ALL OVER OVER THE ROAD
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HESITATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUTTON FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT MULTIPLE UNKNOWN WARNING INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO POSNER PARK CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM FIAT (LOCATED AT 42650 US-27, DAVENPORT, FL 33837, (863) 438-3333) MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 431.
THIS CAR SHUT OFF A RED LIGHT AT BUSY INTERSECTION BECAUSE OF THE START/STOP TECHNOLOGY. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED AND I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE CAR DID NOT RESTART. IT DID NOT RESTART WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS EITHER. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND PRESS THE START BUTTON TWICE TO GET IT TO COME BACK ON. THIS VERY UNSAFE AND SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A CAR WITH LESS THAN 400 MILES TOTAL ON IT.
THE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE IN MY CAR IS NOT RELIABLE. THERE HAVE BEEN THREE INSTANCES WHEN I'VE BEEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT, I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, THE SYSTEM ACTIVATES START, AND THEN AS SOON AS I HIT THE GAS, MY CAR STALLS. I THEN HAVE TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK, TURN THE VEHICLE OFF COMPLETELY, AND START IT AGAIN. THIS OBVIOUSLY STRIKES HIGH CONCERN DUE TO THE STRONG POSSIBILITY OF BEING REAR ENDED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW. I LEFT AGITATED. I JUST PURCHASED MY VEHICLE LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO.
PARKED 2019 JEEP COMPASS IN NORMAL PARKING LOT WENT INSIDE FOR A FEW HOURS THEN HEARD POPPING NOISES FROM PARKING LOT. RAN OUTSIDE TO SEE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURST INTO FLAMES VIA THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT DAMAGING THE ENTIRE FRONT HALF OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER FLAMES PUT OUT, THERE WAS A LARGE HOLE IN THE HOOD OF THE CAR GOING DOWN INTO THE ENGINE THAT DAMAGED THE WINDSHIELD, BUMPER, ENGINE, LIGHT, TIRES AND DOORS. OTHER CARS AROUND MINE WERE DAMAGED AS WELL AS THE FIRE SPREAD. WAS PARKED AT HOTEL PARKING LOT FOR A FEW HOURS BEFORE CAUGHT ON FIRE.
2019 JEEP COMPASS LATITUDE PURCHASE DATE: 7/14/19 MILEAGE: 26 FIRST INCIDENT: 7/16/19 MILEAGE: APPROX 75 ON WAY HOME FROM WORK APPROX 7:00PM. AUTO START/STOP FEATURE ENGAGED, STOPPED AT STOP LIGHT IN TRAFFIC. ENGINE SHUT DOWN AS NORMAL, TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED GREEN, TOOK FOOT OFF OF BRAKE TO ACCELERATE, CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND HAD TO PUT IT INTO PARK AND PRESS THE START/STOP ENGINE BUTTON TO GET THE CAR TO RESTART AND THEN RAN AS NORMAL SECOND INCIDENT: 7/18/19 MILEAGE: APPROX 100 ON WAY HOME FROM WORK APPROX 5:30PM. AUTO START/STOP FEATURE DISABLED, DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, CAR IN FRONT TURNING RIGHT, SLOWED DOWN TO ALLOW THE OTHER CAR TO TURN, COMPASS WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AGAIN AFTERWARDS. PULLED OVER AND STOPPED COMPLETELY, EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND ALERTED THAT IT HAD SOMEHOW BEEN ENGAGED (I DID NOT ENGAGE IT). HAD TO PUT CAR INTO PARK AND PRESS START/STOP ENGINE BUTTON TO RESTART CAR, THEN DROVE AS NORMAL. AS A RESULT OF THESE TWO INCIDENTS I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR.
CAR WON'T GO AFTER STOPPING WHEN FOOT IS OFF BREAK
AFTER GETTING OFF OF THE HIGHWAY AND COMING TO A STOP AT THE LIGHT, I WENT TO TURN AND MY CAR STALLED OUT AS I WAS TURNING. I WAS ON A ONE LANE OVERPASS WITH NO WAY TO PULL OVER. IT WOULDN'T EVEN REGISTER THAT I WAS TRYING TO TURN OFF MY VEHICLE FOR A MINUTE. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO RESTART MY CAR AND KEEP DRIVING.
THE WINDSHIELD WIPER CAME OFF DURING A STORM THE DAY I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. 3 OR 4 WEEKS LATER THE FRONT BUMPER POPPED OFF UNDER THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. LOCAL DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ASSEMBLED PROPERLY AT THE FACTORY.
VEHICLE WILL NOT START. 1ST TIME WAS THE DAY I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH ONLY 41 MILES ON IT . I HAD IT PARKED AT MY HOME AND ENTERED THE VEHICLE TO GO SOMEWHERE WHEN I PUSHED THE START BUTTON THE RADIO AND AC CAME ON AND THE SCREEN SAID ON HOWEVER IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. DON JACKSON CAME AND PICKED THE VEHICLE UP WHICH AT THAT TIME IT CRANKED UP WITH NO PROBLEM. THEY HAD MY CAR ALL DAY. 5 DAYS LATER THE CAR DID SAME THING NOW DON JACKSON HAS THE VEHICLE AGAIN. THE CAR HAS 88 MILES ON IT AND I HAD IT FOR 7 DAYS IN WHICH 3 OF THOSE DAYS THE DEALER HAVE IT AND CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM
CAR LOSSES ALL ELECTRICAL, WONT START. NOT A BATTERY PROBLEM. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR 2 MONTHS AGO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO OPERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ROUTE 46 CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE (1655 US-46, LITTLE FALLS, NJ 07424) WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,038.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR WILL NOT CRANK; EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS. LET CAR SIT AND IT FINALLY STARTS. DEALERSHIP SAYS NO CODES SHOW UP. HAPPENED 5 TIMES SINCE CAR WAS PURCHASED 12/24/19.
LEASED A BRAND NEW CAR ON 3/23/19. THE SAME DAY THE CAR MADE WEIRD NOISES, INFORMED DEALERSHIP BROUGHT IT BACK 2 DAYS LATER AND I WAS INFORMED AFTER NOT HAVING THE CAR FOR ALMOST 3 WEEKS THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM ENDED UP BEING REPLACED. WENT ON 5/6 TO PICK UP CAR AFTER IT WAS REPAIRED AND BROKE DOWN AGAIN, AND CAR BROKE DOWN IN THE PARKING LOT OF DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE WHEN EMERGENCY BRAKE AND ENGINE FAILED ON A SUBURBAN SIDE STREET. FULL DESCRIPTION IS IN DOCUMENT BELOW
THE START/STOP SYSTEM FAILED AT A STOP SIGN AND MY CAR STALLED AND I COULDN'T GET THE CAR MOVING UNTIL I TURNED OFF THE AUTOMATIC STOP/START SYSTEM. THE START/STOP ICON APPEARED WITH AN EXCLAMATION POINT WITH THE WORDS "STOP/START SYSTEM FAILURE" ON THE DASH. MY CAR IS A MONTH OLD.
I BOUGHT A 2019 JEEP COMPASS LIMITED 5 DAYS AGO ALL SEEMED WELL AT FIRST THEN ON THE FIFTH DAY I WENT ON MY LUNCH BREAK AND CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON. TRIED LOCKING, UNLOCKING, PUSHING THE START BUTTON REPEATEDLY. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES CAR STARTED ON THE WAY TO MY DESTINATION THE CAR STALLED AND WOULD NOT TURN ON AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES FINALLY RESTARTED. AT THE DESTINATION CAR AGAIN WOULD NOT TURN ON AFTER BEING STATIONARY.
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AT HAWK CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP 7911 W ROOSEVELT RD, FOREST PARK, IL 60130 ON 04/8/19 . I DROVE OFF THE LOT WITHOUT A PROPER EXPLANATION/PRESENTATION OF MY VEHICLE, NO ONE WENT OVER THE FEATURES WITH ME. WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOME, A FAMILY MEMBER POINTED OUT THAT THE LCD SCREEN QHERE THE MILEAGE IS DISPLAYED WAS NOT WORKING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MAY TURN ON WITH ONE OF THE BUTTON ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I'VE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE LIKE THIS. AFTER 10 -15 MINUTES OF PLAYING AROUND WITH BUTTONS I COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, THE SALESPERSON SAID TO BRING IT BACK FOR AN UPDATE. ON THE WAY BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP I GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT BECAUSE I WAS ON MY WAY BACK TO THE DEALER AND I DID NOT REALIZE HOW FAST I WAS GOING SINCE MILEAGE WAS NOT DISPLAYED. NOW, I HAVE DAMAGE ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE LESS THAN 24HRS LATER. IT IS NOW 04/23/19 AND THE VEHICLE IS UNDER THE DEALERSHIP POSSESSION BECAUSE THE PART TO THE LCD SCREEN IS ON BACK ORDER. ACCORDING TO THE SALESPERSON, I JUST NEEDED AN UPDATE, WRONG.
UPDATE TO MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT: I LEASED THIS CAR ON JANUARY 12, 2019. IT IS BRAND NEW. THE CAR WAS HAVING TROUBLE STARTING AGAIN TODAY AND YESTERDAY. I TURNED IT ON THE NORMAL WAY AND IT WAS FINE IN PARK, BUT WHEN I SWITCHED TO DRIVE IT SHUT OFF. THE D STARTED FLASHING (AGAIN) SO I PUT IT BACK IN PARK, AND THE CONSOLE TOLD ME TO PRESS THE BRAKE AND PRESS STOP/START, WHICH I DID ATTEMPT BUT THE BRAKE WAS LOCKED AND THIS DID NOT WORK. THE RED LIGHTNING BOLT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BOTH CAME ON. THE RED LIGHTNING BOLT WARNING LIGHT INDICATES A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. IT ALSO STALLED AND WAS HARD TO STEER AS USUAL NOW, THOUGH PUTTING IT IN 4WD MAKES IT A BIT EASIER TO CONTROL. I AM NOW EVEN MORE SCARED TO OPERATE THIS VEHICLE AND FEEL LIKE IT IS GOING TO FALL APART WHILE I'M DRIVING.
LESS THAN 2500 MILES AS OF TODAY. SINCE START OF LEASE IN JANUARY: CHECK TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM LIGHT ON, CHECKED 5 TIMES PRESSURE IS FINE. CAR STALLS AND STOPS WHEN DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. DOES NOT ACCELERATE. CAR FAILS TO START, SAYS PRESS BRAKE AND START BUTTON BUT DOES NOT START UNTIL 3X OF TURNING OFF AND ON. SOMETIMES D FLASHES; SOMETIMES A@ FLASHES ON SCREEN. DOES NOT ALWAYS RESTART AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS WHEN A@ IS NOT PRESSED. FOR THIS REASON I ALWAYS PRESS A@ TO REDUCE STALLING. CAR WILL NOT INITIALLY START WHEN A@ IS PRESSED. IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS: ENGINE NOT WARM ENOUGH NOTICE APPEARS CONSTANTLY DESPITE WARMING CAR 5 PLUS MINUTES IN 60 DEGREE WEATHER. REAR PASSENGER SPEAKERS CRACKLING AND STATIC SOUNDS. STRANGE CREAKING SOUND WHEN ACCELERATING, BRAKING OR DRIVING AROUND 30-35 MPH. STALLING/GEAR ISSUES/FLASHING R AND D CAUSED CAR TO GO FORWARD OVER PARKING LOT BUMP AND INTO GRAVEL DITCH INSTEAD OF REVERSING.
WE RECENTLY HAD 3 INSTANCES WHERE OUR BRAND NEW 2019 JEEP COMPASS FAILED TO START. THE CAR IS ONLY 4 WEEKS OLD AND HAS LESS THAN 500 MILES ON IT. WE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN ON EVEN THOUGH THE DASHBOARD INDICATED THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING. WE SAW ONLINE THAT THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN REPORTED BY SEVERAL PEOPLE. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND APPARENTLY THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH "STARTER CONTROL". THEY APPLIED A PCM UPDATE UNDER ITEM TCB 18-035-19. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY, IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH A FIX, THE DEALERS AREN'T PROACTIVELY RECALLING THESE CARS. THE ELECTRONIC START IS THE ONLY WAY TO START THE VEHICLE (NO OVERRIDE) AND IT COULD CAUSE GRAVE PROBLEMS, DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION, IF THE VEHICLE WON'T START. HUGE SAFETY ISSUE!!!!!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO START. THE FAILURE LEFT THE CONTACT STRANDED ON THREE OCCASIONS. ADDITIONALLY, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO KENDALL DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (LOCATED AT 13355 SW 137TH AVE, MIAMI, FL 33186, (786) 231-2120) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,216.
THE JEEP COMPASS IS EQUIPPED WITH A VERY DANGEROUS ESS START/STOP SYSTEM. FIRST YOU MUST DEACTIVATE IT EVERY TIME YOU START THE VEHICLE. SECONDLY WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AT A STOP LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, IT FEELS MORE LIKE IT STALLS THAN SHUTS OFF, A SHUDDER GOES THRU THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE SPUTTERS AND DIES. TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND MAYBE IT WILL RESTART THE VEHICLE, MAYBE NOT. MINE SPUTTERED TO LIFE BUT HAD NO POWER, VERY SLOWLY THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED INTO THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND I THOUGHT THE CAR WAS GOING TO STALL AND QUIT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. (I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO HUNDREDS OF JEEP COMPASS VEHICLES. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR DOWN. I WAITED ABOUT 10 MINUTES RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED OFF THE ESS SYSTEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SYSTEM, AND JEEP SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL IT AND FIX IT, OR GIVE OWNERS A WAY TO PERMANENTLY DEACTIVATE IT WITHOUT HAVING TO UNPLUG THINGS UNDER THE HOOD THAT RESULT IN WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH. EXTREMELY POOR AND DANGEROUS DESIGNED ESS SYSTEM. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE DIES TO MAKE THEM FIX THIS!!!! IT AFFECTS ALL 20117.5 - 2019 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE ESS SYSTEM.
THIS IS A RAND NEW VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 100 MILES. INTERMITTENT STARTING. WILL NOT START CONSISTANTLY. KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE, NEEDS A SOFTWARE UPGRADE BUT STILL DO NOT HAVE ONE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AS YOU CAN PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR WITHOUT THE ENGINE E RUNNING AS THE VEHICLE THINKS THE ENGINE IS RUNNING BUT IT IS NOT!. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM BUT DOES NOT HAVE A FIX. STAR CASE S1808000285 NO REPAIR
THE CAR RANDOMLY FAILS TO START WITH THE PUSH OF THE START BUTTON. IT SAYS TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BUTTON TO START, HOWEVER IT WILL NOT WORK. NOTHING HAPPENS. EVENTUALLY IT WILL START, COULD BE 1 MINUTE, COULD BE 10 OR 15 MINUTES. SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY WRONG. SERVICE OF COURSE COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, SO NOTHING WAS FIXED. IT HAS HAPPENED AROUND 5 TIMES IN THREE WEEKS. CAR IS BRAND NEW. I ASSUME THIS IS SOME ISSUE AFFECTING MORE THAN JUST MY VEHICLE. IF THE START BUTTON DOESN'T WORK, THERE IS NO OVER RIDING WAY TO START THE CAR.
VEHICLE WON'T START. IT'S THE THIRD TIME IN A WEEK. THE FIRST ONE TAKE 10 MINUTES TO START, THE SECOND TIME 15 TO 20 MINUTES AND THE THIRD TIME I CALL THE DEALER AND THEY SEND A TOW TRUCK(ALL TIMES THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY). THEY USE JUMPER CABLES. THEY SAID IN THAT MOMENT THAT BROBABLY IS THE BATTERY BUT THEY LEAVE UNTIL NEXT DAY. NEXT DAY CALL ME TO PICK MY COMPASS AND THEY SAID THAT IT'S NOT THE BATTERY THAT THE BATTERY IT'S OK AND THEY DON'T FIND NOTHING. I'M WORRIED BECAUSE I SEARCH ONLINE AND I'M NOT THE FIRST ONE WITH THE PROBLEM.
PARKED CAR NEAR STORE. CAME OUT FIVE MINUTES LATER AND STEPPED ON BRAKE AND PUSHED START BUTTON. CAR THOUGHT IT WAS RUNNING. PUT IN REVERSE.CAR DIDN'T MOVE.I SPENT A FEW MINUTES TRYING TO START. GOT OUT OF CAR AND DASH LIGHT SAID ENGINE WAS RUNNING. FINALLY STARTED AFTER A FEW MORE MINUTES. 130 MILES ON THE CAR. GLAD I WASN'T ON RAILROAD TRACKS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED MORE THAN 35 TIMES WITHOUT WARNING. LESTER GLENN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM FIAT (1199 ROUTE 37 W, TOMS RIVER, NJ 08755, (732) 240-8832) WAS NOTIFIED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT HAD BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE TO PROVIDE A PERMANENT REMEDY. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER MAY BE THE SOURCE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER UNTIL MID MARCH OF 2019. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A LOANER VEHICLE OPTION WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 18V524000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), 17V670000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), AND 16V907000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON A RESPONSE TO DETERMINE THE GUIDELINES TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 0.
