STEERINGJuly 25, 2025
while driving at approximately 45 miles per hour electronic power steering system failed and and it felt like the motor in the steering column was trying to pull the car hard right. the EPS warning light on the dash flashed red. Safely stopped the car on the shoulder of road. turned car on and off and resumed driving. problem repeated (this time with steering trying to lock at center) another 1/2 mile down the road. stopped again and pulled and reseated apparently undamaged fuse in under hood fuse box. restarted car and switched drive mode from "normal" to "sport" which changes the cars EPS power assist profile. drove remaining 18 miles home without incident. currently trying to schedule service appointment with dealer.

This car was recalled for a bad engine and because their computer would not throw off a code they refused to replace the bad engine. It has 60000 miles on it and has been well maintained. The rocker arms have gone bad and there are countless others who have the same issue that Hyundai refuses to address because now computer code was thrown off. They hide behind this to avoid replacing their bad engines.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROLOctober 7, 2024
The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving 76 MPH, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode and decelerated to 30 MPH. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle experienced intermittent, unintended acceleration. The contact shifted the transmission to neutral(N), but the vehicle failed to stop. The contact then pressed the shift lock release button, and the vehicle was able to stop. The steering wheel also inadvertently turned left or right while driving, and the Lane Keep Assist System was not activated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that fuel and oil were leaking into the exhaust pipe, allowing smoke into the cabin. The dealer replaced the alternator, battery, and spark plugs, but the failure persisted. The dealer notified the manufacturer about the failure. The vehicle was then taken to Tarr Hyundai (5524 W Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown, TN 37814); however, the dealer was initially unable to duplicate the failure. When Tarr Hyundai was able to duplicate the failure, the failure information was forwarded to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and several cases were opened. The final case was resolved through arbitration, and the manufacturer was ordered to buy back the vehicle; however, the contact declined the buyback offer. The failure mileage was approximately 141.

NHTSA #11615150STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINEJune 17, 2024
While driving the vehicle has stalled/engine shuts off at different speeds and also while the vehicle's steering wheel is turned to move it into a different direction (for example making a right turn at a perpendicular street/road). There is a concern for the operator's safety and others operating around a stalling vehicle especially at higher velocity/speeds and when traffic is heavy. The dealership has recommended an engine replacement, not sure if the dealer has been able to reproduce the problem. Currently, the vehicle has only been inspected by a dealership. The flashing engine light first appeared on 06/07/2024, this would be the second time the vehicle stalled (engine shut off) on the same day.

2019 Hyundai Veloster. Since November 2022, my vehicle has encountered multiple problems, necessitating extensive periods in repair shops, and I believe these issues have not been addressed satisfactorily. Below is a timeline of the events for your reference: - **December 2022**: Engine replacement was conducted, resulting in the vehicle being in the shop for 7.5 weeks. - **January & February 2023**: The car underwent repairs for damage due to a faulty door and leaking moisture. - **February 2023**: The vehicle was broken into, leading to another round of repairs in April 2023. - **October 2023**: The check engine light activated. Upon taking the vehicle to your dealership, I was informed of a two-month wait for diagnosis and an even further delay for the repair. - **December 2023**: I was advised to leave the car at the dealership for a diagnosis to be conducted several weeks later, with no offer of a courtesy vehicle. - **January 2024**: The dealership diagnosed a low oil code and instructed me to return to the previous service provider to reset it, despite the oil level being adequate. I believe that the engine was not accompanied by proper installation and synchronization of related components, it could indeed lead to a P0017 code. This code indicates a misalignment between the crankshaft and camshaft positions, which can be caused by issues such as a faulty timing chain or belt, incorrect installation of these components, or a problem with the camshaft or crankshaft sensors⁴. The appearance of a P0017 code after an engine replacement can vary in time depending on the specific circumstances of the installation. If the timing components such as the chain or belt, sensors, and related parts are not properly installed or calibrated, the code could show up immediately after the engine is started. In other cases, it might take some time for the code to appear, as the engine's computer tries to adjust the timing and eventually determines it cannot correct.

The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The contact stated that it sounded as if the engine was revving without the accelerator pedal being depressed. The contact stated that the RPM revved between 5,000-7,000 RPMs but the vehicle was losing motive power. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle was still losing motive power. The contact was able to stop the vehicle. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle several times however, the vehicle failed to respond while shifting into drive(D). The contact stated the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and advised the contact that clutch packs 1 and 2 showed DTC codes: P090173 and P090B73. The contact was informed that the clutch packs 1 and 2 along with the clutch actuator and the front brake pads, rotors, and fluid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 61,307.
ENGINEJanuary 25, 2024
While driving the vehicle the engine stalled in the middle of a turn. We were able to safely move the vehicle to the side of the road immediately out of harms way. The engine would not restart despite adding oil. Prior to the engine stalling there was a light knocking noise but very faint. The check engine or oil lights did not illuminate until after the stall. We had the vehicle towed to our family member's auto shop to research the problem with the engine and he also was not able to get the vehicle to restart. It was confirmed that the piston oil ring had failed and safety recall report 21V-301 was found addressing the same issue with other vehicles same year but not specific to our VIN. We had the vehicle towed to Hyundai dealership to validate the issue and they stated that it was a camshaft dowel and that HyundaiUSA did not feel it fell under the recall notice, we had agreed to a fix to replace the camshaft dowel that was broken upon the initial diagnosis. Upon further review they found that further damage had been done to the engine and now the engine would need to be replaced. HyundaiUSA again said that it didn't fall under the safety recall based on the VIN and would not fully cover the replacement of the engine. Their diagnosis of the damage is identical to what is listed in the Safety recall notice 21V-301. This damage could have caused a much larger issue if the vehicle was being driven on a highway or other high traffic area.

2.0 engine loss of power and stalls. Engine makes knocking noises and timing chain slipping. First reported to dealership on August 21 and was told they could not be able to look at the car for three months. Vehicle was kept out of service for four weeks. Reported to dealership again on 9/14/2023 and visited the dealership on 9/16 after no response. Also notified the dealership of recall involving this year model engine but received no recall notice from Hyundai. All symptoms of this recall were experienced with this vehicle.

My car battery died and I changed the battery. I noticed that the engine lights were on, so I made an appointment to get it checked as well as complete a state inspection. My car fob started acting up and they (Halls Jeep) told me to take it to the Hyundai Service Center because they have the equipment to do so. I took it to the Priority Hyundai and told them of the issue as well as reminded them that there was a recall issue relating to the software in the vehicle. After waiting 4 hours of back and forth, trying to find out what was going on with the car, I saw parked to the side. I asked about it and then another mechanic came and told me that they locked the car and were now unable to unlock it. I told them that there should be some emergency entrance, as all vehicle with a fob has a safety feature to unlock manually. After another while, the service manager decided that the locking issue might be due to the car not being updated (the recall issue) and gave me a loaner car. The service manager also said he did not know how to rectify it and that he would need to contact a different department in Hyundai. I received a call from the manager now saying that it is a mechanical issue and that they are not responsible for anything that happened to my car when they are fixing another issue. I now have a car that I can't lock/unlock and I am not sure what else is wrong due to the software issues. Th software recall does not address all the electrical issues and the dealerships don't know all the issues with the car.

My rpm’s were running very low after putting gas to the point the car felt like it would turn off when at idle. I was stopped on a highway at a light when the car revved low and shut off completely. The light was green and I had to sit and try to get it back on, it started right up. Brought it to the dealer and they found no issue with the car. Rpm’s have still been low to the point the car seems like it wants to stall & I’m not sure what to do. It doesn’t make me feel safe driving it.

My engine is having the same issue as the other Hyundai Engines that have an active recall for it. The piston oil ring recall. My car is consuming 1qt of oil in roughly 800-1000 miles and burning it into the exhaust. I fear this will continue and cause issues and possibly be a fire hazard like the recall states.

On February 24, 2023, my 2019 Hyundai Veloster Turbo (~36K miles) would not accelerate and began losing power while driving. Problem seemed to be worse while driving uphill. At one point, car would also not go into reverse. Turning car off and then on seemed to resolve the issue with reverse. Similar issue occurred in early November 2022. Local Hyundai service center performed maintenance under warranty on the transmission November 7. Between November 7 and February 24, there were no observable issues with the vehicle while driving.

Defective connecting rod bearings that wore out early, which can lead to engine failure and stalling which almost led to a car crash. The connecting-rod bearings in the engine that could wore out prematurely and damage the engine resulting in engine failure. This created abnormal knocking noises from the engine , reduced power and flashing check engine light.

I was driving to work on the morning of July 14, 2022. I was in a work zone with cones on both sides of me my vehicle lost compression as I was compressing the accelerator I started hearing a low rapping or knocking sound, This knocking increased and repetition rather quickly and my car would not accelerate as it had been. I exited the This knocking increased and repetition rather quickly and my car would not accelerate as it had been. I exited the Work zone area, near where my work is and as soon as I turned off my brake pedal would barely compress I literally had to put all of my body white on the brake pedal to get my vehicle to slow down I had smoke coming out of my engine compartment and lost all auxiliary power to the vehicle. I was able to Let the smoke out and see if the engine was actually on fire. It was not. I had no idea what was going on or why my pretty new vehicle Was doing this. I had it towed to a body shop who did a full diagnostic of the engine, and they came out with a report saying there was internal mechanical problems and that all of the engine oil had dissipated at a rapid rate.

ON MAY 7TH MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD WHEN I TRIED TO TURN IT ON ON THE PARK LOT OF MY WORK. WOULDN'T TURN ON, NO LIGHTS, DOORS WOULDN'T OPEN OR CLOSE. CAR WAS JUMPED BY THE TOW DRIVER AND WHEN GO TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY COULDN'T NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM NOR COULD HYUNDAI. THE TOW DRIVER TOLD THEM THE CAR WAS COMPLETE DEAD AND STILL THEY GAVE ME BACK THE CAR SAYING NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. BUT A ABOUT A MONTH AGO THE CAR STALLED AND WENT COMPLETELY OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY 95 IN MIAMI, FL. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A HUMAN WHILE SIFTING GEARS BUT NOW I KNOW IT WASN'T. BUT AFTER EXPERIENCING IT A SECOND TIME I KNOW FOR SURE IT WASN'T HUMAN ERROR. SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG WITH THIS CAR AND HYUNDAI HAVE NOT BEEN GABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT. AT THE EVENT AT THE HIGHWAY I WAS ONLY ABLE TO BRING THE CAR BACK RUNNING BY SNAPPING THE CLUTCH AND THE GAS. IF IT WAS AN AUTOMATIC CAR FOR SURE THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A BIG ACCIDENT. AFTER THE LAST TIME THE CAR DIED IT TOOK HALF A TANK OF GAS TO DRIVE LESS THAN 30 MILES. HYUNDAI, IS SENDING THE CAR HOME TO ME EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING WRONG WITH YET. THEY ARE PUTTING A "BLACK BOX" FOR ME TO RECORD THE CAR ENGINE ACTIVITIES AS IT HAPPENS. I FEEL SCARED AND UNSAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. IT IS SUCH A SERIOUS MATTER THAT I WANT TO SHARE IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE EXPERIENCES THAT SAME THING AND I WAN TO MAKE SURE MY STRUGGLE WITH THIS CAR IS WELL KNOWN AND HOPEFULLY WILL INSPIRE SOME MORE INVESTIGATION.
