BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND REPLACED IN 2010 .GAS TANK RUSTED AND LEAKS.LEAF SPRING BRACKETS RUSTED AND BROKEN ,ONE REPLACED IN 2011,OTHER JUST BROKE CAN NOT FIND MECH. TO FIX,BECAUSE RUST HAS EATEN AWAY SO MUCH METAL,( IT GETS THINNER AND WEAKER). THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICE FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WS ABLE TO PUT HIS FINGER THROUGH THE RUST AND THE FRAME. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE HAD TO WATCH THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO KNOW THE FUEL LEVEL INSTEAD OF RELYING ON THE FUEL GAUGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,000.

I'VE NOTICED THAT 96 AND NEWER GMC SAVANA'S AND CHEVROLET EXPRESS FULL SIZE VANS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR TAILLIGHTS. I'VE BEEN LOOKING FREQUENTLY FOR A RECALL BUT HAVE YET TO SEE ONE. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THE RIGHT BRAKE LIGHT IS VERY DIM. I'VE CHANGED THE BULBS SEVERAL TIMES THINKING THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT IT HASN'T. WHILE PARKING THE VAN, COMING BACK, AND THEN PUTTING IT I INTO THE REVERSE THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED. ALSO, HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS. HAD TO ALLOW EXTRA SPACE IN BETWEEN CARS FOR THE VAN TO STOP. CONSUMER CALLED GM, AND CHECKED ON THE RECALLS , AND WAS INFORMED THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. CONSUMER ONLY PUT ON 1,500 MILES ON THE VAN SINCE PURCHASING IT. THE VAN WAS PREOWNED AND WAS EQUIPPED WITH HANDICAP ACCESSIBILITY. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CALLED, THEY FOUND RECALLS, AND T REFERRED CONSUMER TO GM. THE OWNER HAS NOT HAS THIS REPAIRED. DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP LOCATED INSIDE THE FUEL TANK, BASICALLY BURNED OUT. CONSUMER SAID THE ONLY THING THAT SAVED VEHICLE WAS THAT THE HILL HE WAS TRAVELING ON WAS NOT STEEP. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO NOTICE SUCH AS A SQUEAL OR OTHER INDICATION THAT WOULD NORMALLY OCCUR PRIOR TO A BRAKE COMPONENT FAILURE. DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS "NORMAL" WEAR ALTHOUGH THE OTHER THREE PADS HAD PLENTY OF LIFE LEFT ON THEM. DEALER WOULD NOT COVER REPAIRS. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED NO HELP. CUST. SERVICE ALSO SIDED WITH THE DEALER MECHANIC, SAYING IT WAS "NORMAL" WEAR AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED. I ENDED UP HAVING THEM REPAIRED/REPLACED AT ANOTHER LOCATION. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AS I HAVE SEEN MANY PRIOR COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME TYPE ON THE SAME OR SIMILAR TYPE VEHICLES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SAFETY RELATED COMPLAINT TO ME, BUT THUS FAR, AFTER MANY YEARS OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS TYPE, NO INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN INITIATED. EITHER FRONT WHEEL HITTING BUMP ACTIVATES ABS WHICH THEN SHUTS DOWN THAT WHEEL THEN COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM (LEAVES NO CODE) FOR 1-2 SECONDS & HAS LED TO INABILITY TO STOP BY APPROPRIATE PLACE AT INTERSECTION AND WHAT I WOULD TERM SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS. THIS HAPPENS I REPEAT UNDER LIGHT PEDAL APPLICATION ON FRONT WHEELS AT SLOW SPEEDS WITH NO LOAD IN TRUCK BED WITH ONE ADULT & SINGLE PASSENGER USUUALLY MY 9 YR OLD SON. HAD TO PUSH PEDAL DOWN AS HARD AS I COULD TO ENGAGE A STOP. AFTERWARDS HEARD A LOUD METAL ON METAL SCRATCHING AND CLUNCKING OF BRAKES.*AK

OUR VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WITH MY WIFE AND THREE SMALL CHILDREN INSIDE. WE HAD THE CHILD SEFETY LOCKS ENGAGED AND QUICKLY REALIZED THAT IF MY WIFE HAD GONE TO THE REAR OF THE VAN FROM THE INSIDE (VIA BETWEEN THE SEATS) TO RETRIEVE THE CHILDREN THE RESULTS WOULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY SINCE SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE WHILE THE CHILD SAFETY LOCK WAS ENGAGED. ALTHOUGH THEY WERE INSTALLED WITH GOOD INTENTIONS WE HAVE LEARNED THEY ARE UNSAFE DURING A FIRE AND WILL NEVER ENGAGE THEM AGAIN. *AK

ELECTRICAL WIRING PROVIDED TO BE ATTACHED TO THE TRAILER FOR THE REAR TAIL LIGHT HAD A PROBLEM. 18 GAUGE WIRE/4 AMP ONLY GOOD FOR 6 FEET, NOT ENOUGH TO REACH THE TRAILER. AT LEASAT 10GA WIRE NEEDED INSTEAD. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE WIRE WAS LONG ENOUGH. *AK *ML
