AFTER GETTING AN OIL CHANGE I WAS INFORMED OF A LEAK IN MY OIL PAN, AS I GOT HOME THE NEXT MORNING I NOTICED THAT MY CAR LEAKED OUT ALL THE OIL IN THE CAR RESULTING FROM A FAULT O-RING SEAL, ALSO NOW HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE SUSPENSION AS MY IDLER ARM IS ABOUT TO SNAP AT ANY MOMENT RESULTING IN THE LOSE OF STEERING FOR THE CAR. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC BEFORE I PURCHASED IT AND ONLY ONE BUSHING WAS REPLACED INSTEAD OF ALL OF THEM AT THE SAME TIME, ALSO THE MECHANIC IMPROPERLY REPLACED THE FRONT SHOCKS AS INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE GREASE BEARINGS THE MECHANIC USED BOLTS TO ASSEMBLE AND HOLD THEM IN PLACE RESULTING IN AN ANNOYING SQEAK IN THE FRONT END OF THE CAR SINCE THE SHOCKS CANT BE PROPERLY GREASED AS THERE ARE NOT GREASE FITTINGS.

THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND LEFT THE PARKING LOT, STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, PROCEEDED INTO THE ROADWAY AND ENGINE DIED. EVERYTHING WENT OFF - ALL POWER ALL ELECTRICAL. I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE SECOND HAND AND THE OWNER TOLD ME LATER THAT SHE HAD BATTERY PROBLEMS, BUT SHE PUT IN A NEW BATTERY. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIX IT. MY HUSBAND FIGURED IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH. I KEPT THE CAR FOR TWELVE YEARS AND HAD TO CHANGE IT TWICE, PLUS THE INITIAL REPAIR WAS WARRANTIED. WHEN IT FIRST OCCURRED IN 2000 I LOOKED FOR A RECALL, BUT THERE WAS NONE. I REMEMBER THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD A VERY LARGE KEYCHAIN, AND WE DID FIGURE OUT ON OUR OWN TO CARRY A SINGLE KEY, BUT AFTER ABOUT 5-6 YEARS YOU STILL NEED TO CHANGE THE IGNITION, YOU CAN TELL CAUSE THE ELECTRONICS START GOING WACKY IN THE VEHICLE. THEN IT WON'T START, LIKE YOU THINK ITS THE BATTERY. IT IS SAD THAT PEOPLE DIED FROM THIS AND THAT GMC CANNOT ADMIT THAT THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON, I KNOW SINCE 1998. I HAVE A GMC JIMMY THAT IS EXPERIENCING MULTIPLE DASHBOARD FAILURES. WHEN I FILL THE GAS TANK THE GAUGE GOES TO EMPTY, THEN WHEN I DRIVE A WHILE IT GOES TO FULL AND THEN BACK TO EMPTY. I NEVER HAVE A PARTIALLY FULL READING. ALSO THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES OFF AND ON. MY OIL PRESSURE GAUGE REVES UP AND DOWN LIKE I AM OUT OF OIL. I PULL OFF THE ROAD AND CHECK AND THE OIL IS FINE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS. I TOOK IT TO THE GM DEALER AND THEY WANT MORE THAN I CAN AFFORD JUST TO LOOK AT IT AND CAN'T GUARANTEE ANYTHING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 GMC JIMMY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH THE SPARE TIRE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE HOIST THAT HELD THE SPARE TIRE IN PLACE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WAS CORRODED AND CAUSED THE SPARE TIRE TO DISENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING; HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS CALLED AND STATED THE SPARE TIRE HOIST WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

I WAS DRIVING A 1998GMC JIMMY FROM OKLAHOMA CITY, OK TO WALTERS, OK. EVERYTHING WAS GREAT AND THE CAR WAS DRIVING PERFECTLY. I WAS ON THE HE BAILEY TURNPIKE ON HIGHWAY MARKER 30 - I COULD SEE THE SIGN AND PULL OFF FOR THE FAXON EXIT AND THE BIG SIGN FOR WALTERS. A FEW WISPS OF WHITE SMOKE APPEARED AND THEN HEAVY GREY SMOKE STARTED TO BILLOW INTO MY FACE THROUGH THE RIGHT SIDE VENT OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT. I STARTED TO COUGH AND COULDN'T SEE SO I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. AS I GOT OUT OF THE CAR, I PULLED THE HOOD RELEASE AND RAN TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLES. UNDER THE HOOD, HALF OF THE ENGINE BAY WAS ALREADY BURNED AWAY - LIKE THE BOTTLE FOR ANTI-FREEZE AND HOSES.... THE WHOLE ENGINE BAY WAS ON FIRE. THE CAR WAS GONE AT THAT POINT - THERE WAS NO WAY TO SAVE IT. I RAN TO THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT AND GRABBED A BASKET THAT HAD MY CENSUS ID AND I THREW IT AWAY FROM THE CAR. I GRABBED SOME CDS THEN TOO, BUT THEY WERE ON FIRE. THE DASH WAS ON FIRE AND WAS SPREADING INTO THE FRONT SEAT. I THREW THE CDS IN THE DIRT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. I GRABBED THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OF THE BACK SEAT AND GRABBED A HAMPER WITH PRESENTS FOR MY DAUGHTER. I RAN TO THE OTHER SIDE BACK SEAT AND GRABBED THE LEGAL PAPERS OF CENSUS APPLICANTS - THEY WERE ON FIRE AND I SNUFFED OUT THE FIRE IN THE DIRT. I GRABBED MY JEAN JACKET WITH MY MILITARY ID AND DRIVER'S LICENSE - THE BACK SEAT AND FRONT SEAT WERE ON FIRE AND I RAN AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE AND IT FIREBALLED AND EXPLODED. TWO MEN FROM THE TURNPIKE MAINTENANCE SAW ME DRIVING - SMOKING POURING OUT FRONT HE VEHICLE; THEY SAW ME PULL OUT ON THE SHOULDER AND SAW ME RUNNING TO SALVAGE WHAT I COULD FROM THE BURNING VEHICLE. DRIVE AN 1998 GMC JIMMY WITH AROUND 172,000 MILES ON IT (I KNOW THIS IS A LOT OF MILES). HAD THE LOCAL GM DEALER WORK ON MY REAR DEFROSTER (ONE OF THE CLIPS FELL OFF). AFTER RECEIVING THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE DEALER I TURNED MY DEFROSTER ON ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER. THE BACK WINDOW EXPLODED LIKE A SHOTGUN AFTER ABOUT 15-20 SECONDS. DEALER SAYS REAR DEFROSTER VOLTAGE REGULATOR MUST HAVE WENT BAD. I ARGUED THAT A FUSE SHOULD HAD BLOWN BEFORE AN EXPLOSION TOOK PLACE. GM COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT ALSO DISAGREES, SAYING THAT THE VEHICLE IS OLD AND THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPEN. LUCKILY, NO ONE WAS STANDING BY THE REAR WINDOW WHEN IT EXPLODED BECAUSE IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE KILLED THEM. IF I'M WRONG TELL ME I'M WRONG BUT I BELIEVE GM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NO ONLY REPLACING THE WINDOW BUT FIXING THE REAR DEFROSTER VOLTAGE REGULATOR. THE ENGINE CONTINUALLY MISFIRES. THERE IS A TSB BULLETIN #00-06-04-003B. DEPOSIT BUILDUP ON POPPED VALVE BALL &/OR SEAT, CAUSING IT TO STICK. THERE IS A RECALL BECAUSE OF THIS BUT ONLY IN CALIFORNIA. I LIVE IN ALASKA. I GOT AN ESTIMATE OF $1200 BUCKS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. BECAUSE OF THIS, I ONLY GET 5-7 MPG, AND HAVE LITTLE POWER. ALSO, MY ABS LIGHT TURNS ON AND THE ABS ACTIVATES AT LOW SPEEDS ON DRY GROUND. MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS TOTALLY MESSED UP. MY RIGHT CLICKER JUST THE SOUND NOT LIGHT) GOES OFF WHEN DRIVING. IT IS COMPLETELY ERRATIC AND UNPREDICTABLE. MY SPEAKERS TURN OFF AND ON SPORADICALLY. *AK MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT ADJUSTER BROKE OFF WITH LITTLE PRESSURE. MANUAL RECLINE BAR ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT SEATS BROKE. THE FIRST INCIDENCE HAPPENED ON DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BEFORE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED (PRE-OWNED VEHICLE). VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND SO BAR WAS REPLACED. THE DRIVER'S SIDE RECLINE BAR BROKE A SECOND TIME APPROXIMATELY 3-4 YEARS LATER. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE RECLINE BAR ALSO BROKE APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR AFTER THAT. BECAUSE THE SEAT WAS IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION WHEN THE RECLINE BAR BROKE ON ANY OF THE OCCASIONS, HAD THE SEAT BEEN IN A RECLINED POSITION, THE SEAT POSSIBLY WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN USABLE. DT: THE FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELD WIPERS BEGAN TO INTERMITTENTLY WORK. THIS WAS OVER A PERIOD OF THREE MONTHS AND LATER STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER. CONSUMER DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR ANY REPAIRS BECAUSE IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AFTER ACCELERATION FOR A PERIOD OF ABOUT THIRTY SECONDS, AND THEN IT SHIFTED INTO GEAR. THE ABS WAS DELAYED WHEN APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE. THE BRAKES LOCKED, AND THEN THE VEHICLE SLID. THE BRAKES PADS WERE REPLACED EVERY THREE MONTHS, THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. THE STEERING WHEEL PULLED TO THE RIGHT CONTINUOUSLY, AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED A YEAR AGO BUT IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IN JANUARY 2004 THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, IT STRUCK A PARKED CAR AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 30 MPH AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS WAS FRONT IMPACT. I HAVE HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT TIMES AND COMPLETELY TURN MY JIMMY OFF TO GET THE BLADES TO STOP. THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM, THE BLADES WILL ALSO FAIL TO STOP WHEN I CLEAN MY WINDSHIELD WITH THE WASHER FLUID. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT GM DID A RECALL ON 1994-1997 JIMMYS FOR THIS ISSUE, I HAVE ALSO READ THAT SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THEIR 1998 JIMMYS. I BELIEVE THAT GM NEED TO EXTEND THE RECALL TO INCLUDE 1998 JIMMYS AS THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I FOUND MYSELF STUCK BETWEEN AN 18 WHEELER AND A CEMENT BUMPER RIGHT AFTER IT HAD RAINED AND MY WIPERS FAILED TO WORK WHICH CAUSED MY VISION TO BE EXTREMELY IMPAIRED AND I WAS TRYING TO GET THE WIPERS TO WORK SO THAT I COULD SEE AND NEAR SLAMMED INTO THE CEMENT BUMPER. WHILE THIS DIDN'T RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT IT VERY EASILY COULD HAVE. I HAVE 86,000 MILES ON MY 1998 JIMMY AND DROPPED MY GRANDDAUGHTER OFF AT THE MY OTHER DAUGHTERS PLACE, THE KEY TURNED OFF NO PROBLEM. I DROVE TO WORK AND COULD NOT TURN THE KEY TO THE ACC OR OFF POSITION AND COULD NOT GET THE KEY OUT. I CHECKED THE WEBSITE AND NOTICED THAT THIS HAPPENED TO A COUPLE OF OTHER OWNERS WHO ENDED UP PAYING OVER $700.00 FOR THE REPAIR, WHICH INCLUDED REPLACING THE IGNITION MODULE AND REPROGRAMMING. THIS HAPPENED AT A TIME WHEN I AM GOING THROUGH A DIVORCE, MY OTHER DAUGHTER IS IN THE HOSPITAL AND MY FATHER IS HAVING HEART PROBLEMS, SO IT REALLY IS INCONVENIENT AND WITH ALL THAT IS GOING ON, HAS CHANGED MY ATTITUDE REGARDING GMC'S. I USED TO SWEAR BY THEM, NOW I AM THINKING OF LOOKING AT OTHER DEALERS. I HAD THE HEAD GASKET BLOW ON THIS MODEL, WHEN THEY REPAIRED IT, THEY DROPPED A BOLT DOWN INSIDE THE PISTON, WHICH THEY DID NOT CATCH UNTIL IT CRACKED THE PISTON, WHICH DELAYED ME GETTING MY VEHICLE BACK. THEY MISDIAGNOSED A CONTROL MODULE THAT WOULD SOUND LIKE THE SIGNAL KEPT TURNING ON BY ITSELF, THEY REPLACED MY BRAKE PADS STATING THAT GOODYEAR INSTALLED THEM WRONG, BECAUSE THEY KEPT SQUEAKING. I PAID $200.00 TO HAVE THEM REPLACED AND THEY STILL SQUEAK. THIS WAS DONE AT JIM LUPIENT IN ST. LOUIS PARK. THE TECHNICIAN AFTER REPAIRING THE ENGINE FORGOT TO TIGHTEN THE AIR INTAKE CLAMP DOWN AND IT VIBRATED AGAINST THE AIR-CONDITIONING HOSE, WHICH CUT A HOLD IN THE HOSE AND DRAINED ALL THE FREON. I HAVE HAD TWO INSTANCES OF BATTERY FAILURE - ACDELCO 75-6YR, THE FIRST AT THE ABOVE DATE AND THE SECOND ON 08/05/2002. BOTH FAILURES WERE THE SAME - THE POSITIVE BATTERY POLE BROKE OUT OF THE BATTERY SPILLING THE ACID OUT OF THE BATTERY AND ONTO THE COMPONENTS BELOW THE BATTERY. THE ACID COULD SPILL ONTO CRITICAL COMPONENTS SUCH AS BRAKE LINES, FLUID HOSES AND ELECTRICAL WIRES AS WELL AS EATING AWAY MOUNTS THAT SECURE THE BATTERY AND NEARBY COMPONENTS. SHORTLY AFTER SIGNING A LEASE TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP IN REVERSE WHILE I WAS USING IT COMMERCIALLY. THE TRUCK HAD SEVERAL YEARS, OR 25000 MILES, LEFT ON WARRANTY SO I CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR REPAIR.THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT AN AUTHORIZED GMC DEALERS'SHOP, PERFORMANCE CHEVROLET,SACRAMENTO,CA. ONE WEEK LATER THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME I COULDN'T AFFORD TO LOSE THE WORK (SELF-EMPLOYED) AS I DID THE FIRST LOCK UP. SO, I GATHERED MY WITS ABOUT ME AND OPENED THE TOWER/SHIFTER ROD TOP OF THE TRANNY. I FOUND THE BOTTOM OF THE SHIFTER ROD OUT OF ITS DIVIT IN WHICH IT SHIFTS GEARS, AND ALSO SAW THAT THE REVERSE GEAR WAS THROWN INTO REVERSE. I THEN USED A SCREWDRIVER TO PRY THAT GEAR BACK INTO A NUETRAL POSITION. I BUTTONED EVERYTHING BACK INTO PLACE AND RESUMED WORK. THIS BECAME A REGULAR PART OF MY JOBS; THAT IS, "FIXING" THE MANUFACTURER'S PROBLEMED PRODUCT. ABOUT 6 TO 8 MONTHS OF THIS MADDNESS WENT BY, WHEN ONE OF MY CLIENTS COMPLAINED THAT I SEEMED TO BE FIXING THE TRUCK MORE THAN WORKING IT TO FULFIL MY THE CONTRACT WITH HIM. THEY KEPT IT SEVERAL DAYS AND CALLED TO SAY IT WAS FIXED. I TOLD THEM TO KEEP IT UNTIL IT WAS FIXED, THAT I WASN'T PUTTING MY KIDS IN IT UNTIL IT WAS FIXED, AND GOT IN MY OLDER AND HIGHER MILEAGE MERCEDES WHICH HAS NEVER HAD A SINGLE PROBLEM, AND LEFT. I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEMS SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR AND THEY HAVE CONTINUED FOR OVER TWO YEARS IN SPITE OF THE DEALER HAVING REPEATEDLY TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. ALL MY DOOR AND REAR HATCH LOCKS HAVE FAILED HUNDREDS OF TIMES IN SPITE OF MY RETURNING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES. THE HATCH CAN POP OPEN IF I MERELY CLOSE ANOTHER DOOR. IT CAN POP OPEN IF I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. FREQUENTLY WHEN I AM DRIVING THE LOCKS WILL POP BACK OPEN IF I TRY TO LOCK THEM.THE LOCKS FAIL MANY TIMES WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING IN SPITE OF MY HAVING TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES AND THE DEALER HAVING TRIED TO FIX IT MANY TIMES. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS AND MECHANICS AND THEY HAVE SAID THAT IT IS VERY UNCOMMON FOR BOTH TO GO AT THE SAME TIME, MORE SO WITH SO FEW MILES ON THE EQUIPMENT. *AK

FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. GAUGES WOULD FAIL,AND ALL DASH GAUGE LAMPS WOULD LIGHT UP. STOPPED AT DEALER AND ASKED IF THEY KNEW OF THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD ITS A KNOWN PROBLEM BUT IF IT WASN'T FIXED AT ANY TIME IT COULD GO,AND I WOULD BE STUCK. WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION, IT WOULD FAIL TO START AND ALL THE GAUGES WOULD FAIL. THE PROBLEM IS WITH A BAD GROUND IN THE ELECTRICAL ASM BEHIND THE KEYLOCK AND IT WOULD COST AROUND $500 TO FIX. I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A CALL BACK.I WAS TOLD THE PART WAS HARD TO COME BY BECAUSE THEY HAD TO PURGE INVENTORY OF THE OLD PART.IF THE NEW UPGRADED PART IS SO HARD TO GET I WOULD SUSPECT THAT THE PROBLEM IS LARGER THAN IS BEING LET ON.AT THIS POINT I HAVE A RENTAL, WAITING FOR THE CAR TO BE FIXED.THIS IS SIMILAR TO THE FORD RECALL WITH THE IGNITION SWITCHES THAT CAUSED FIRES ONLY THEY SAY THIS PROBLEM WON'T CAUSE A FIRE. TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK WHEN VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER SAYS THAT SOME STICKY SUBSTANCE WAS SPILLED IN THE CONSOLE BY THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTER AND CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT ASSY TO LOCK UP. THE ONLY THING THAT WAS SPILLED IN THAT AREA WAS A COVERED CUP FILLED WITH SWEET TEA THAT TIPPED OVER THE CUP HOLDER. I DON'T KNOW HOW THE LIQUID COULD'VE LEAKED UNDERNEATH THE CONSOLE AND CAUSE MY TRANSMISSION TO FREEZE UP. PEOPLE DRINK IN CARS ALL THE TIME, AND THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. THIS IS A DEFAULT WITH THE TRANSMISSION CONSOLE. BECAUSE IT LOCKED UP MY TRANSMISSION, MY VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE AND COULD HAVE PUT ME IN A SERIOUS RISK WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD OR PARKED IN AN UNSAFE AREA. HAD SERVICED TWICE AND STILL SAME PROBLEM AND DEALERSHIP FIXED OIL LEAK ON FIRST SERVICE (VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP) AND REPLACED PART 2ND SERVICE AND STILL IS A PROBLEM, LAST OCCURING ON 7/15/99, FOLLOWING 2ND SERVICE. I AM GOING TO REQUEST A 3RD SERVICE. DEALERSHIP HAS NOT HAD A TRANSMISSION SERVICE/REPAIR MAN ON STAFF THE LAST 3 ATTEMPTS TO GET REPAIR. BOTH SERVICES HAVE BEEN COMPLETED BY ADAMS CHEVROLET/GMC IN RAYTOWN, MO BECAUSE DAVE CROSS HAS NOT HAD A TRANSMISSION MAN. HOWEVER, FOR THE 2ND SERVICE (JULY 1999), DAVE CROSS ACCEPTED THE JIMMY FOR SERVICE BUT HAD ADAMS DO THE SERVICE. DAVE CROSS SERVICE MGR (I BELIEVE IS MGR) TOLD ME WHEN I PICKED UP JIMMY FOLLOWING 2ND REPAIR THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECENT "BULLETIN" THAT REQUIRED A PIECE BE REPLACED WHICH THEY DID AND SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THE PROBLEM. TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND LOST POWER WHILE TOWING 4200 POUND RV, A UNIT WELL UNDER THE TOWING CAPACITY OF THE GMC JIMMY. TRANSMISSION GOT HOT AND SLIPPED WITH NOTICABLE LOSS OF POWER. ODD ODOR CAME FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT, ALSO. "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON DURING FUEL STOP. WE THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO FUEL CAP OR GASOLINE USED. CONTACTED DEALER UPON RETURN FROM TRIP AND HAD ITEM SCHEDULED FOR CHECK ON MON 6/7/1998. HAD TRANSMISSION OIL AND FILTER CHANGED AND MECHANIC NOTED OIL EXCESSIVELY BLACK. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT MONITOR INDICATED TRANMISSSION HAD OVERHEATED TWICE. RECOMMENDATION WAS TO DRIVE SLOWER, CHANGE OIL AND FILTER MORE OFTEN, GET A WIND RESISTANCE DEFLECTOR FOR TOWING VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS TOWING PACKAGE WITH EXTRA TRANSMISSION OIL COLLER RATED AT OVER 10,000 POUNDS TOWING CAPACITY. SALESMAN, WHO WAS A PREVIOUS RV DEALER/SALESMAN, ASSURED US WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THAT IT WAS MORE THAN ADEQUATE TO HANDLE THE TOWING OF THE RV (26 FOOT DUTCHMAN LITE, RATED AT 4200 POUNDS). AFRAID THAT TRANSMISSION WILL FAIL AGAIN AND WE WILL BECOME STRANDED. WIFE, WHO DRIVES VEHICLE DAILY, ALSO NOTED THAT TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING PERIODICALLY WHEN DRIVING WITHOUT ANY LOAD ATTACHED TO THE VEHEICLE. THE CAR WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED, LOST POWER, THE TRANSMISSION DROPPED INTO LOW GEAR, AND WOULD ONLY PROCEED AT A SLOW SPEED, THIS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE, THE SERVICE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON.I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THEY COULD NOT DETECT THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM OCCURED NEAR, FOR THE THIRD TIME, NEAR CORAL SPRINGS GMC AND I TOOK THE CAR INTO THEM IMMEDIATELY AND THEY CAME UP WITH TRANSMISSIONS CODES ON THE COMPUTER. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO KING SINCE THE OTHER DEALER DID NOT HAVE A TRANMISSION MECHANIC. KING WAS CONTACTED AND I WAS TOLD TO BRING THE CAR IN LATER , THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT WENT OFF AND IT DROVE NORMALLY. THE DAY I BROUGHT THE CAR TO KING IT OCCURED AGAIN, AND THIS TIME THE SYMPTOMS WERE THE SAME, BUT THE INSTRUMENT ALSO WENT DEAD. KING REPORTED TO ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THE TRANSMISSION BUT THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH CAUSED THE COMPUTER TO LOOSE POWER, CREATING THE TRANSMISSION TO DOWNSHIFT AND, THE CAR TO LOOSE ENGINE POWER, AND THE INSTRUMENTS TO FAIL. AT HIGH SPEED THIS CREATES SOME CONCERN AS YOU CAN IMAGINE. THEY INDICATED IT HAS HAPPEN ON OTHER VECHILES. I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS SINCE I CONSIDERED IT A SAFETY PROBLEM. I FEEL OWNERS AND OTHER DEALERS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED, SINCE APPARENTLY IT IS NOT EASILY RECOGNIZED. THANK YOU.

DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE SEALS AND OIL HOSES, THE BRAKES HAVE NOT FAILED, BUT IF PUT IN A CLOSER SITUATION THAN I WAS ALREADY PLACED AND ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. I HAVE THE 6.5L DIESEL AND THE BRAKES AND THE POWER STEERING ARE CONNECTED TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. THIS CONNECTION ?? THE STEERING BECOME VERY TIGHT WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, EVEN WITH THE TRUCK SITTING STILL. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES TO GET IT RESOLVED TO NO AVAIL.

WHEN YOU LET GO OF STEERING WHEEL, CAR GOES IMMEDIATELY RIGHT. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER DID A WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND IT WAS OKAY FOR A WHILE BUT THEN IT DID IT AGAIN AND WE TOOK IT BACK. THE SECOND TIME WE TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER THEY CHARGED US FOR A WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND SAID WE HAD "CURBED" THE VEHICLE BUT WE HAD NOT. NOW IT IS DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN AND WE DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO PAY FOR ANOTHER WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
