My power steering and brakes went out as I was driving. I was making a turn in town, and I almost collided with another car at the intersection. I pushed the brakes as hard as I could, but it didn't slow down, the car just eventually rolled to a stop on its own. The exact cause is unknown, but it seems like it was a failure in the power steering pump. After turning off the van and turning it back on again a minute later, it started driving normally again.

The contact owns a 2002 Ford E-150. The contact stated while driving at approximately 75 MPH, he smelled a burning odor in the passenger cabin. The contact stated that he turned the A/C on to help clear the cabin. The contact stated that he noticed smoke was being emitted from the driver's side rear tire and wheel well. The contact stated that the tire separated from the rim and the vehicle dropped to the road. The contact stated he had not noticed any warning lights. The contact stated that he managed to pull over and saw smoke emitted from the rotor and brake pads. The contact stated that the rim was almost destroyed. The contact observed that there was fluid leaking from the rotor and brake pads and had started to burst into flames. The contact stated that he was able to smother the flames with a blanket. The contact stated that he had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 228,000.

IN A PARKING LOT, I WENT TO TURN LEFT, HEARD A LOUD CLUNK AND THE VAN JUST WENT STRAIGHT. LOST ALL STEERING CONTROL. LUCKILY THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT AND NOT ON THE ROAD AT HIGHER SPEED. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED AT SPEED, I WOULD HAVE HIT ONCOMING TRAFFIC , OR GONE OFF THE ROAD INTO WHO KNOWS WHAT. TWO SEPARATE MECHANICS HAVE DIAGNOSED A COMPLETE FRAME FAILURE WIHICH ALLOWED THE STEERING BOX TO DETACH FROM THE FRAME. THE FRAME IS NOT REPAIRABLE. IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2002 FORD E150 FRAME PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET HURT OR KILLED!!!

AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE LOST STEERING ABILITY BECAUSE THE BOLTS CONNECTED TO THE GEAR BOX, WHICH WERE ALL CONNECTED TO THE FRAME, DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LES STUMPF FORD (3030 W COLLEGE AVE, APPLETON, WI) WHERE THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED; HOWEVER, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED BECAUSE THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 86,000.

THEY SENT OUT A MECHANIC, HE DIAGNOSED A BLOWN OUT SPARK PLUG, AND SAID THIS WAS COMMON FOR THE FORD V-10. MADE IT TO HIS SHOP, AND THAT'S WHERE IT SITS. ESTIMATES ARE OVER $4000 TO REPAIR.

THIS 350 ECONOLINE, 8CYL., EXTENDED BODY VAN WAS PURCHASED NEW, AND I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 120K MILES ON IT SINCE 2002. BEGINNING SEVERAL YEARS AGO, MY MECHANIC COMPLAINED OF SEVERE FRAME EROSION, HAVING HAD TO REINFORCE AND RE-WELD SEVERAL PARTS BACK ONTO THE FRAME, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE BRACKETS WHICH SUPPORT THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS. (TWO OCURRANCES-- LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES). LAST WEEK, MY EMPLOYEE COMPLAINED OF SOME REAR END SWAYING AT MODERATE SPEED CORNERING. WE DISCOVERED A CROSS-TIE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE SIDE RAILS AT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE'S FRAME HAD ROTTED AWAY, THUS CAUSING SOME UNWANTED FRAME MOVEMENT. IF IT WEREN'T FOR A HEAVY-DUTY TOWING PACKAGE I HAD PURCHASED WITH THE VEHICLE IN 2002, I BELIEVE THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES OF THE VEHICLE'S UNDER-FRAMING WOULD HAVE TWISTED AND SEPARATED FROM THE BODY YEARS AGO ! ALSO BEGINNING A FEW YEARS AGO, WAS THE DECAY OF THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE BLOCK, AS THREE SEPARATELY TIMED SPARK PLUGS HAD LITERATELY 'BLOWN' OUT OF THE THREADED WELLS OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND PUT CLEAN DIESEL FUEL AND FUEL ADDITIVE TO GET ME BACK HOME; THIS DID NOT WORK AS THE VAN ACTED UP AGAIN SEVERAL MILES DOWN THE ROAD. AFTER STOPPING AND STARTING NUMEROUS TIMES ON A SIDE STREET, I GOT TO A PLACE WHERE I COULD CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER; I NOTICED THAT IT WAS FULL OF RUST AND ALUMINUM FLAKES. THE VAN WOULD NOT MOVE ANY FURTHER, I HAD TO TRAILER IT HOME, THE NEXT DAY. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THAT THE ALUMINUM COATING THE FUEL TAKE HAD COME OFF AND WAS PLUGGING UP THE FUEL PICKUP, EMERGENCY VALVE AND THE FILTER. YOU CAN DO AN INTERNET SEARCH AND FIND WERE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORDS. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT IT I WOULD HAVE PERFORMED PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE ON THE FUEL TANK AND FILTERS. FUEL PUMP FAILED WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS ON 101 SOUTH ON THE WALDO GRADE APPROACHING THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE. VEHICLE LOST POWER HALF WAY UP THE GRADE AND SLOWED TO 10 MPH. LIMPED VEHICLE TO OFF RAMP. I AM AN ASE CERTIFIED MASTER MECHANIC, I ALSO HOLD MY CALIFORNIA SMOG LICENSE. I'VE WORKED AS A MECHANIC FOR 30 YEARS. UPON GETTING THE VEHICLE HOME I DIAGNOSED THE CONCERN I FOUND THE FUEL TANK FULL OF METAL THAT HAD FLAKED FROMT HE WALLS OF THE FUEL TANK. I FOUND THE FUEL PICKUP IN THE TANK PLUGGED WITH FILINGS, THE FUEL PUMP RUINED, AND THE FUEL FILTER FULL OF METAL AND RUST. I SENT THE TANK TO WHO COATED THE FUEL TANK FOR ME. STATED THAT HE CONTINUOUSLY SEES THESE FORD TANK COMING FROM ALL THE DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA. UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH FORD FUEL TANKS. MY TOTAL COST FOR THIS REPAIR IN PARTS AND REPAIRS TO THE FUEL TANK HAS COME TO $1,200.00 WHOLESALE COST, NOT INCLUDING MY LABOR OR ANY PARTS RETAIL MARKUP. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE NEW AND ALWAYS RUN GOOD QUALITY FUEL IN MY VEHICLE AND TOPPED UP THE TANK WEEKLY OR MORE OFTEN TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF MOISTURE IN MY FUEL SYSTEM. I HAVE NOT FILLED UP THE FUEL TANK AND RUN THE ENGINE YET, AND HOPE THAT THERE IS NO FURTHER DAMAGE TO MY FUEL INJECTORS OR FUEL SYSTEM. 2002 FORD WINDSTAR REAR AXLE PROBLEM WE WERE DRIVING ON 78E AND WERE APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES BEFORE ALLENTOWN. ALL OF A SUDDEN WE HEARD A CRACK, SMELLED SMOKE, AND HEARD METAL SCRAPING. THE CAR STARTED FISHTAILING AND MY HUSBAND VIRTUALLY HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR AS THE WINDSTAR REPEATEDLY CROSSED 2 LANES AND ALMOST HIT THE MIDDLE BARRIER AND THEN FISHTAILED TOWARD THE OTHER SIDE. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS OR TRUCKS IN FRONT OR IN BACK OF US AND WE WERE AT A SLIGHT UPHILL. FINALLY, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VAN AND PULL OVER TO THE SMALL SHOULDER WHICH WAS BARELY BIG ENOUGH TO FIT THE VAN. WE CALLED 911 AND AAA. WHILE WE WAITED ON THE SIDE, WE FEARED THAT WE COULD GET HIT IN THE EVENT THAT A TRUCK OR CAR SWERVED TO THE SIDE. WE WERE SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS CRACKED AND THE REAR TIRES WERE CAVED IN. MY AUTO DEALER GILBOY IN WHITEHALL OFFERED TO TOW AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM, BUT ONLY AT MY EXPENSE. FORD EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THERE WAS NO COVERAGE FOR THIS SITUATION BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AND THERE CURRENTLY IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. BOTH GILBOY AND FORD TOLD ME THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE REAR AXLE. I HAD 3 CHILDREN IN THE CAR, 2 OF WHICH WERE MY OWN. THIS WAS THE SCARIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE AS I FEARED WHAT POTENTIALLY COULD HAPPEN. LUCKILY, SOMEONE FROM ABOVE WAS LOOKING AFTER US BUT I FEAR THE NEXT FORD WINDSTAR OWNER MAY NOT BE SO LUCKY. I OWN A 2002 FORD E150 VAN WITH A 5.4 TRITON ENGINE. THE VAN HAS 98000 MILES, AND STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL SPARKPLUGS IN IT (MAINLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT FORD DOESN'T RECOMMEND A CHANGE UNTIL 90K). WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, I HEARD A "POP", AND SUDDENLY THE VAN BEGIN TO DRIVE SLUGGISH AND VERY LOUD. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ECONOLINE(NA). WHILE DRIVING AND ENGAGING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE WARNING LIGHT CAME. THERE WAS ALSO NOISE UNDER THE HOOD OF HIS VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM SUDDENLY CAUGHT FIRE. HE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED FOR AN HOUR TO RESTART IT; HOWEVER, WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE SMOKE AND FIRE WERE COMING FROM THE BRAKES. HE SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE, AND DISCONNECTED THE ABS MODULE UNIT UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER WHO DID NOT RECONNECT THE ABS MODULE. THE CONTACT IS CURRENTLY ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE USING THE NORMAL BRAKING SYSTEM WITH NO FAILURES. THE ABS MODULE WILL BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,500.

2002 FORD E350 DIESEL VAN. WE BOUGHT THE VAN WITH 32K MILES ON IT. WE REPLACED THE FIRST GAS TANK WITH 65K MILES IN PA AFTER IT BROKE DOWN ON I-81. WE REPLACED THE SECOND GAS TANK AT 80K MILES AT OTIS FORD IN QUOGUE, NY. WE ARE NOW GOING TO REPLACE THE TANK AGAIN, TANK #3, BECAUSE THE SAME ISSUE IS HAPPENING AGAIN. THE THROTTLE CABLE STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION CAUSING THE ENGINE TO SURGE UNCONTROLLABLY AT APPROXIMATELY 5000 RPMS. I HAD TO TURN OFF MY IGNITION TO AVOID CRASHING THE VEHICLE INTO NEARBY TRAFFIC. THE TRUCK SHUTS OFF. IT SOMETIMES IS INTERMITTENT (RUNS FINE AT CRUISE, BUT WONT IDLE) OR IT COULD BE ABSOLUTE. (TRUCK JUST UP AND DIED! NO REASON!) THERE IS NO TIMELINE, NO PRECURSOR, NO WARNING. I CAN DRIVE FOR 200 MILES, THEN IT HAPPENS, OR 1 TO 7 MILES. THE FAILURE IS A STALL. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, IF A STALL COMES AND DOESN'T SHUT DOWN THE TRUCK, (USUALLY BECAUSE THE RPM'S ARE BEING REVVED UP.) AND IS RESTARTED, THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL NO LONGER BE ON. THE ENGINE WILL RESTART, OR NOT RESTART, BUT EVENTUALLY IT WILL RESTART. THEN FAILURE AGAIN. IT STARTED MARCH 1 AND CONTINUES. ALL ELSE APPEARS TO BE FUNCTIONING FINE. I BELIEVE IT IS THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. I HAVE NOT YET VERIFIED THIS WITH A MECHANIC, BUT IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM A FORD PART WILL BE BOUGHT AND IT WILL BE REPLACED. *JB

PURCHASED A USED 2002 EXPLORER IN 12/2005. IN 2/2007, A GRINDING NOISE APPEARED WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE. TOOK IT IN THE SAME DAY (I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN IT OCCURRED). THEY TOLD ME THE BEARING WAS BAD AND THAT I NEEDED ABOUT $1100 IN PARTS AND $600 IN LABOR TO REPLACE, AND THAT I WAS LUCKY THAT THE WHEEL DID NOT FALL OFF. HE STATED THAT, "THIS IS COMMON ON MOUNTAINEERS AND EXPLORERS," AND THAT HE HAS DONE SIMILAR WORK OTHER TIMES. HE RECOMMENDED THAT I REPLACE THE OTHER BEARINGS, BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL GOING TO GO AT SOME TIME. I FEEL THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. *JB

THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION WAS PURCHASED USED WITH 82,000 SHOWING ON THE ODOMETER. I OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR 2 1/2 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS ENGINE ISSUE. LEFT FOR WORK ON THE MORNING OF DEC. 20 2006. I AM AN IN HOME SERVICE PLUMBER. APPROACH. 1:30 PM ON THE AFOREMENTIONED DAY, I STARTED MY VEHICLE TO LEAVE ONE JOB AND PROCEED TO ANOTHER, AND UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, HEARD A VERY LOUD POP, FOLLOWED BY A CONTINUOUS EXHAUST LEAK TYPE SOUND. UPON FURTHER VISUAL INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THAT A SPARK PLUG WAS LAYING ON TOP OF THE MANIFOLD AND THE NUMBER 2 CYLINDER COIL PAK WAS DISTORTED AND PULLED AWAY FROM IT'S ATTACHED POSITION OVER THAT CYLINDER. THE FAILURE WAS THE PLUG EJECTING OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD ( PER DEALER ) AND THE CONSEQUENCES ARE MISSED DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS REPAIRED. THE REPAIR WILL COST ME AROUND 4800,00, NEW CYLINDER HEAD PLUS LABOR TO INSTALL. VEHICLE IS AN E- 350 CARGO 2002. 5.4 TRITON. I WAS UNEMPLOYED 7 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS VEHICLE PURCHASE. LOST DAY OF WORK TO MAKE REPAIRS ON TRUCK , REPAIR PARTS $130.00 ON 6/22/06 BLEW SPARK PLUG OUT OF #2 CYLINDER. PUT TRUCK DOWN FOR 2 DAYS WHILE REPAIRS WERE MADE. I HAD ALL PLUGS REMOVED 4 OF THE REMAINING INCLUDING #2 WERE BAD. THAT'S 5 OF 8 THAT THE THREADS WERE COMPROMISED . ALL OF THESE WERE FACTORY INSTALLED ORIGINAL PLUGS. I HAD THE REPAIR SHOP INSTALL REPAIR SLEEVES IN ALL THE PLUG HOLES. THE TERRIBLE PART OF ALL OF THIS IS THAT I MAY HAVE BEEN LUCKY. I DIDN'T HAVE TO REMOVE THE HEADS , IF THE HEAD IS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR THE ONLY RECOURSE IS TO REPLACE IT,NOT USUALLY A REAL MAJOR JOB. WE NOTICED A SLIGHT RUBBING WHEN VEHICLE WAS TURNING TO RIGHT WHILE ON VACATION. WITHIN 2 DAYS IT BECAME WORSE, THE THUMPING AND RUBBING SOUND WERE VERY LOUD AND FELT IN THE CAR. WE OPTED TO LEAVE THE CAR. LUCKILY WE DID, AS THE REPAIR SHOP INFORMED US THAT THE WHEEL BEARING WAS COMPLETELY CRACKED, AND NOTED THIS IS NOT COMMON. WE WERE TOLD THAT HAD WE ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE HOME, THE WHEEL WOULD HAVE FALLEN OFF ON THE HIGHWAY, AS IT WAS EXTREMELY LOOSE. THIS IN TURN DAMAGED OUR BACK BRAKES, RESULTING IN NEW ROTORS AND PADS, AND THE SHOP WAS UNABLE TO GET THE EMERGENCY BRAKES BACK ON AS THEY WERE RUSTED ON THE CAR. *NM

THIS UNIT WAS SITTING IN GARAGE WHEN NOT RUNNING WHEN THE SAME PARTS THAT ARE BEING REPLACED ON OTHER VEHICLES IGNITED ON FIRE. FORD WILL NOT REPLACE THE PARTS. *JB

THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE OF MY VEHICLE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSTATE WAS THAT THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH WHICH IN TURN WOULD TRIGGER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE FAILURE WAS A SHOT TRANSMISSION AT ONLY 60,000 MILES. A PROBLEM THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY KNOWS ABOUT FROM THE HUNDREDS OF TECH BULLETIN'S I'VE READ. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO ADAMSON FORD IN BIRMINGHAM,ALA. AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING TROUBLE CODES,P0733,P0735,P0775 AND A FAULTY POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. AFTER RECEIVING MY CAR AND ALMOST $800.00 LATER,THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT STARTED BLINKING TRIGGERING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AFTER RETURNING TO THE DEALER WHOM THEN INFORMS ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO BUY A REMANUFACTURER TRANSMISSION AT OVER $2200,00 PLUS LABOR. I CAN'T AFFORD THIS AND NOW I'M STUCK WITH A LATER MODEL CAR THAT I CAN'T USE, AND A HIGH CAR NOTE. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD AGAIN PERIOD. *JB

I WAS DRIVING MY VAN WHEN A VERY LOUD EXPLOSION OCCURED. PULL OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND SHUT OFF VAN. EXITED VAN AND SMELLED A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR. OPEN HOOD AND FOUND A SPARK PLUG & COIL LAYING ON TOP OF ENGINE! THE SPARK PLUG JUST EXPLODED OUT. THIS VAN WAS TAKEN TO DEALER AND THE "HEAVY" TECH SAID THAT THIS HAS HAPPEN BEFORE, BECAUSE OF LACK OF THREADS ON ENGINE HEAD FOUR TO BE EXACT. FORD RECOMENDS THAT THE PLUG BE CHANGE AT 100,000 MILES. THIS E350 VAN HAS 77,000 MILES ON IT WITH THE ORIGINAL PLUGS STILL IN IT. FORD HAS NO CURRENT RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM.

I HAVE A 2002 FORD EXPLORER, I SAW ON THE NEWS THERE HAS BEEN REPORTS OF IDDLE PROBLEMS. I HAVE NOTICED WHEN I REVERSE AT TIMES IT REVS UP EVEN WHEN MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE GAS. I ALSO HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM WHEN I DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY AT A CONSTANT SPEED THE ENGINE RPM ALL THE SUDDEN IDDLES FAST ANS REVS THE ENGINE UP I HAVE TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. THIS PROBLEMS HAS ONLY LASTED A FEW SECONDS THEN GOES BACK TO NORMAL. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR IDDLE FAST ONCE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM TWICE WHEN THE CAR IS PUT IN TO REVERSE.

I HAVE HAD 3 2002 FORD OEM WHEEL RIMS DEVELOPE STRESS CRACKS AND LEAK AIR FROM THE TIRES. THIS HAS HAPPEND TO 3 OF THE 5 RIMS THAT I GOT ON MY 2002 E150 VAN. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS JULY 3RD, 2005, BUT THE FIRST 2 TIMES WERE EARLIER THIS YEAR. ALL THE CRACKS ARE IN THE CENTER PORTION OF THE OF THE RIM BETWEEN THE WHERE THE TIRE BEAD MOUNTS. 1 IS NEAR THE WIELD AREA FOR THE HUB PORTION BUT THE OTHER 2 ARE NOT. WE RECIEVED A RECALL NOTICE ON TWO OF OUR FORD EXPLORERS. IT WAS CONCERNING THE GLASS IN THE LIFT GATE. THE RECALL STATED THAT THE GLASS COULD FALL OUT AND INJURE THE PERSON OPENNING THE WINDOW. WE HAD THE RECALL DONE ON TWO OF OUR VEHICLES. ABOUT 90 DAYS AFTER WE HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED THE GLASS DID FALL OUT ON ONE OF OUR DETECTIVES. WE HAD THE WINDOW FIXED AND FORD CHARGED US 1029.67 FOR THE REPAIR. OUR CONCERN IS TWO FOLD. OBVIOUSLY THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM STILL PERSIST AND THE SAFTY ISSUE IS A FACTOR. IN MID APRIL 2005, AS I WAS DRIVING MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER HOME (HAD@32,000 MILES), THE CAR JUST DIED WITHIN 2 SECONDS. NO WARNING AT ALL. I LOST ALL POWER, THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENED AND THAT WAS IT. FORD TOWED THE CAR (AS IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY) AND SAID THAT THE FUEL PUMP WENT AND THAT CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE EVEN STARTED FOR ME. THANK GOD MY 3 YOUNG CHILDREN WERE NOT IN THE CAR WITH ME AND THAT I WASN"T HIT FROM BEHIND. AFTER THEY "FIXED " THE CAR AND AFTER WE PAID $600 FOR A 30,000 MILE MAINTENANCE, 6 WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPPENS TO MY HUSBAND. HE'D JUST DRIVING ALONG, THE CAR LOSES POWER WITHIN SECONDS AND COMPLETELY DIES WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR EVEN ANY TIME TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD!!! (THE CAR NOW HAS 33,500 MILES). IT IS CURRENTL STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP BEING "FIXED". EE FEEL LIKE WE'VE ESCAPED SERIOUS ACCIDENTS TWICE NOW, AS WE COULD HAVE SO EASILY BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND BOTH TIMES. I PURCHASED A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR 4 DOOR VAN, AND UPON IMPACT OF CRASHMY FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS IMPACT WAS AT 50-55MPH. I WAS TOLD THE REASON MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WAS DUE TO MY SEATBELT LOCK WHICH BROKE FROM THE IMPACT. ALSO NOW MY TRANSMISSION IS STALLING AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE BUT THEY SAY NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE ON THIS PROBLEM EITHER, BUT ACCORDING TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY IT IS A PROBLEM NOT ONLY WITH MY VEHICLE BUT SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED TOO.

I HAVE A 2002 E350 FORD EXT SD VAN THAT CAME WITH OEM GOODYEAR WRANGLER HT LRE 245/75R/16 TIRES. THE VEH WAS OBTAINED NEW IN JUNE 2002. SINCE NEW THE TIRES SIDEWALLS WERE CRACKED AND DRY, AFTER DRIVING ON THEM A WHILE THE SIDEWALLS HAD MINOR BULGES, AND MORE CRACKS. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED/BAL/AND PROPER PSI AT ALL TIMES AND WERE NEVER OVERLOADED. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH MICHELIN LTX/MS AT 33K MILES. THESE TIRES SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED UNDER A "SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN" BY GOODYEAR AT THEIR EXPENSE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NR 02X001000 DTD 28 JAN 2002). I WAS NOT NOTIFIED AND THE "CAMPAIGN" EXPIRED, LEAVING ME TO REPLACE THE TIRES AT MY EXPENSE. BY NOT NOTIFING ME GOODYEAR SAVED A BUNDLE BUT IT LEFT ME IN DANGER OF A POSSIBLE BLOWOUT/TREAD SEPERATION OR EVEN A CRASH. WHEN I DID FIND OUT ABOUT THE REPLACEMENT CAMPAIGN I WENT TO MY LOCAL GOODYEAR DEALER AND ALL THEY OFFERED WAS TO SELL ME THE SAME TIRE AT AN INFLATED PRICE COMPARED TO SAM'S CLUB OR WAL-MART. VAN ENGINE WAS MAKING KNOCKING NOISE. VAN WAS SENT TO DEALER. DEALER DETERMINED THAT VEHICLE HAD LARGE VOLUME OF WATER IN INTAKE SYSTEM AND SAID IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS LINE OF VEHICLES ALSO HAS 2 OTHER MAJOR COMPLAINTS FROM MANY OWNERS, 1ST IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT BRAKES SQUEALING THIS WAS IDENTIFIED IN THE 2001 MODEL YEAR, A TSB WAS ISSUED AND THE 2002 MODEL HAS THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THE ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH AT IDLE. AGAIN A TSB WAS ISSUED BUT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED IN THE 2002 MODEL YEAR. THE MAIN PROBLEM THAT WAS REPORTED HERE WAS DUE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL SINKING TO THE FLOOR WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. ADDITIONALLY, BRAKE FLUID WAS FOUND LEAKING FROM THE TOP OF THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR. *AK
