BILL BROWN FORD LOCATED AT (32222 PLYMOUTH RD, LIVONIA, MI 48150 (734) 399-4244) WAS CONTACTED HOWEVER, AN APPOINTMENT WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 237,000.

WE BOUGHT OUR 1998 CROWN VICTORIA USED IN 2001. AT THE TIME OF THE SALE I WAS ASKED IF THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM WITH THE CAR, AND AT THAT TIME I SHOWED THEM THAT THE HEADLIGHTS HAD A HEAVY FILM THAT CAUSED VERY LITTLE LIGHT TO COME THROUGH. I ASKED THEM ABOUT REPLACING THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE DEALER WENT INTO THE OFFICE AND CAME BACK WITH "NO"...BUT THEY WOULD CLEAN THE OUTSIDE OF THE GLASS FOR ME. I DON'T KNOW WHAT PRODUCT THEY USED BUT IT LOOKED OKAY FOR RIGHT THEN. IT DIDN'T LAST AND I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK IN AND THEY STILL REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I FEEL THAT THE LENS ON THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE A LEAK IN THE SEALS, SO THE CALCIUM BUILDS UP, OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME,ON THE INSIDE OF THE HEADLIGHT GLASS. IT CAUSES US TO TRAVEL AT NIGHT WITH VERY DIM LOOKING HEADLIGHTS. SINCE WE'VE HAD THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE BEEN NOTICING THE DIFFERENT VEHICLES THAT HAD THE SAME THING WITH THEIR HEADLIGHTS....AND GUESS WHAT----THEY WERE ALL FORD CARS ; AND I DON'T PARTICULARLY KNOW THE 100'S OF DIFFERENT CARS AND MODELS THAT TRAVEL THE ROADS THESE DAYS...SO I HAVE TO ACTUALLY READ "FORD" ON THE CAR IN ORDER TO KNOW IT IS ONE. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I PROCEEDED TO GO HOME ,WHEN I GOT HOME I RAN UP THE STAIRS TO WHERE I LIVE AND EXPLAIN TO MY BOYFRIEND SMOKE IS COMING FROM THE CAR HE WENT DOWN STAIRS TO CHECK AND THERE WAS A FIRE UNDER MY HOOD MY BOYFRIEND PUT THE FIRE OUT AND THEN WE TALKED ABOUT THE FIRE AND WE ALSO DROVE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHICH WE GOT NO ANSWERS. NOW ON 10/28/05 WE HAD A WRECKER TO TOW THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP SO THEY WOULD SEE THE DAMAGE THEY LOOKED ON THE COMPUTER AND WE WERE INFORMED THERE'S NO RECALL ON THE FORD WINDSTAR GL, BUT THEY WOULD FIX IT BUT NOT UNDER WARRANTY, I ASK THE MANAGER WHAT DID HE SUGGEST HE SAID, CALL MY INSURANCE AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY. BUT INSTEAD OF DOING THAT I TOWED THE CAR TO A ELECTRITION AND HIS DESCRIPTION WAS THE PIGTALE WAS BURNT AND ALSO THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH WAS BURNT UP AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS, BUT I KNOW THERE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A FIRE.*JB

THE CAR WAS SEEN BY THE GROUNDSKEEPERS AND SERCURITY TO HAVE WHAT APPEARED TO BE SMOKE AND SPARKS OF FIRE COMMING FROM THE HOOD. THEY ATTEMPTED TO USE FIRE EXTINGUSHERS BUT THE FLAMES AND FIRE BY THIS TIME WAS TO HOT.SOON AFTERWARDS THE FIRE DEPT. ARRIVED. MOST OF THE FIRE WAS UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE THAT ENGULFED THE FRONT DRIVERSIDE INCLUDING THE ROOF DRIVER DOOR AND THE TIRE COMPLETLY MELTED AWAY ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. PASSENGER SIDE DOOR STOPPED OPENING WITH KEY 3 WEEKS AFTER THAT. DOWN TO SLIDER ONLY THAT OPERATES WITH KEY AND IT TURNS VERY HARD. INTERIOR LIGHTS CAME ON....AND STAYED ON. REMOVED FUSE AND WINDOWS SHARING FUSE ALSO WOULDN'T GO UP--WAS WORTH IT TIL I HAD TIME TO GO AROUND AND REMOVE EVERY SINGLE INTERIOR BULB IN THE VEHICLE. REPLACED FUSE JUST TO HAVE WINDOWS OPERATE. I HAVE CONTACTED FIRESTONE AND THEY OFFERED TO GIVE ME 50% OF THE COST OF THE TIRES ON ANOTHER TIRE THEY SAID I NEED TO UPGRADE TO THE CORRECT TIRE THAT SHOULD OF BEEN PUT ON THE M/H BY FORD FIRESTONE WANTS ME TO PUT 4 TIRES THAT ARE THEIR BETTER DESIGN FOR MH USAGE. THEY WILL GIVE ME ONLY 50% ON 4 TIRES SAYING I ONLY NEED TO REPLACE THE REAR TIRES. I HAVE HAD TWO TIRES SEPERATE IN THE LAST 3,000 MILES OR SO. THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASHBOARD LIGHTS START FLASHING ON AND OFF JUST LIKE THE HAZARD LIGHTS. I WAS USING THE AUTOMATIC FEATURE FOR THE HEADLIGHTS THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THEN TRIED TO CONTROL THEM WITH THE MANUAL SWITCH TO NO AVAIL. I USED ONLY THE MANUAL FEATURE FOR A FEW DAYS AND DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK , I WAS COMING HOME A NIGHT AND AFTER HAVING THE LIGHTS ON FOR ABOUT AN HOUR THEY STARTED FLASHING AGAIN. TO GET HOME I WOULD TURN OFF THE HEADLIGHTS THEN WOULD SWITCH ON HAZARD LIGHTS FOR ABOUT A MINUTE THEN I COULD TURN THE HEADLIGHTS ON AND THEY WORKED FOR ABOUT FIVE MINUTES BUT WOULD START FLASHING AGAIN. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER LINE TODAY AND WAS TOLD AFTER CHECKING THEIR RECORDS THAT NO COMPLAINTS OF THIS NATURE HAD EVER BEEN REPORTED TO THEM. IT COULD RUPTURE IF THE UNDERCARRIAGE MAKES CONTACT WITH THE PAVEMENT, SUCH AS ELEVATED DRIVEWAYS, PARKING LOT ENTRANCES, OR POT HOLES. IT COULD ALSO BE TORN BY ROAD DEBRIS. MY NEIGHBOR PUT MY LINE BACK IN THE CLIP FOR ME. HE THOUGHT IT WAS PROBABLY A FUEL LINE, BUT HE WAS NOT SURE. IF IT IS A FUEL LINE AND IT RUPTURES WHEN THE UNDERCARRIAGE MAKES CONTACT WITH THE PAVEMENT, A SPARK COULD IT IGNITE THE GASOLINE CAUSING A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. THIS VEHICLE IS A FINE AUTOMOBILE, BUT IT HAS ONE GLARING DESIGN DEFECT. THE HEADLIGHT LOW BEAMS ARE SHUT OFF WHEN THE HIGH BEAMS ARE TURNED ON. I DISCOVERED THIS A WEEK AGO WHEN ON A VERY DARK COUNTRY ROAD. IN A 55 MPH ZONE 25 MPH WAS A MORE APPROPRIATE SPEED. WHEN THE HIGHBEAMS ONLY WERE ON I COULDN'T SEE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND WITH LOWBEAMS ONLY, I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING DISTANT. I DID FIND OUT THAT I COULD HOLD THE HIGHBEAM FLASHER IN THE UP POSSITION AND KEEP BOTH BEAMS ON WHICH ISN'T TOO SAFE DRIVING WITH ONE HAND. THIS CAN ONLY BE CALLED A VERY STUPID PIECE OF ENGINEERING. IT IS ALSO MY UNDERSTANDING THAT QUITE A FEW OF THE NEWER VEHICLES ARE BUILT THIS WAY. IT IS A VERY REAL SAFETY HAZZARD WHEN DRIVING DARK ROADS AS I FOUND OUT. I ACTUALLY THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS AND WENT TO THE DEALER WHERE I FOUND OUT THAT THE CROWN VICTORIA IS ACTUALLY BUILT THAT WAY. EXCEPT FOR THE HEADLIGHTS IT IS A GREAT CAR. IF EVERY VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ONLY ON WELL LIGHTED HIGHWAYS THIS WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM.

WHILE ON A TRIP TO ARIZONA I RENTED A CAR FROM HERTZ. I WAS DRIVING FROM SEDONA TO PHOENIX ON I17 WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND STOPPED SUDDENLY. AT THE TIME I WAS PASSING IN THE LEFT LANE ON A GRADE OF ABOUT 15 DEGREES AT 70MPH. THE ENGINE STOPPED BECAUSE THE FUEL SHUT OFF SWITCH IN THE TRUNK CUT OFF FUEL TO THE ENGINE. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, OPEN THE TRUNK AND PRESS A RED BUTTON TO PROCEED. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON ENOUGH PROBLEM WITH FORD AUTOMOBILES THAT HERTZ PRINTED A PHAMPLET DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM AND RESOLUTION. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION. THE UNEXPECTED SHUT-DOWN OF AN ENGINE COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
